# 16 Trek to Chanderi through waterfall route on 2nd August 2015

2016-05-23T23:27:00.002-07:00

About:

Amidst the lush green vegetation surrounding the mountain ranges of Nakhind and Mhasmaal, Chanderi Fort emerges like a masterpiece crafted with nature’s best hands. Situated at a height of 2,330 ft, the hill fort, now in ruins, offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area as well as presents one of the toughest trek routes around Mumbai.Although worth mentioning as the jewel in the crown of forts in the district of Raigad, there is no significant history attached to this fort. Near the caves on the fort are visible some remnants of fortification. This is the only sign to designate Chanderi as a fort. Chanderi is famous for water streams and its difficult route. In monsoon route gets thrilling with water flow and tricky.

History:

In May 1656 Shivaji Maharaj conquered all the territory up to kalyan-Bhivandi-rairi. This was when this fort came under the rule of Marathas. Lack of development, Low water storage areas, absence of significant constructions, limited facilities for people to stay and extremely difficult approach road seems to suggest that rather than a fort, this was possibly a military base.

# 17 Trek to Dudhsagar waterfall on 15th-16th August 2015

2016-05-23T23:25:00.000-07:00

Dudhsagar Highlights:

Magnificent View of Dudhsagar Waterfall.

12 kms walk through Railway track with Beautiful Nature

Train passes through a fall, Memorable for Photography

Famous spot in Chennai Express Movie

India’s fifth tallest waterfall and is 227th in the world at 310 m

About:

The magnificent Dudhsagar Waterfall is perched in the high peaks of the Western Ghats and is a sight to behold especially in the monsoons when it is in full and furious flow. From a distance, the waterfall appears like streams of milk rushing down the mountainside. The exuberant and spectacular waterfall is located in the Sanguem taluka.

Measuring a mighty 600m from head to foot, this waterfall on the Goa-Karnataka border, attracts a steady stream of visitors from the coast into the rugged Western Ghats. After pouring across the Deccan plateau, the headwaters of the Mandovi River form a foaming torrent that splits into three streams to cascade down a near-vertical cliff face into a deep green pool.

The Konkani name for the falls, which literally translated means "sea of milk", derives from clouds of milky foam which rises up at the bottom of thfalls. Dudhsagar is set amidst breathtaking scenery overlooking a steep, crescent-shaped head of a valley carpeted with pristine tropical forest that is only accessible on foot or by train.

History:
The legend tells the story of this powerful and wealthy king who ruled a kingdom in the Western Ghats. His lavish and opulent palace in the hills was surrounded by vast gardens which were full of deers and gazelles.

The King had a beautiful daughter, who used to enjoy taking a bath during the hot summers, in the picturesque lake near the forest on the edge of the King's palace grounds. It was her habit to finish her bath and have a jugful of sugared milk in a jug made of pure gold.

One day when she was finishing her usual jug of milk she found herself being watched by a handsome prince standing amongst the trees. Embarrassed by her inadequate bathing attire, the resourceful Princess poured the sugared milk in front of her to form an improvised curtain to hide her body, while one of the maids rushed to cover her with a dress. Thus was the legend born. The sugared milk (dudh) poured down the mountainside and continued to flow in torrents as a tribute to the everlasting virtue and modesty of the Princess of the Ghats. The Dudh Sagar (Sea of Milk) continues to flow to this day and attracts thousands of visitors to one of the most popular and famous tourist spots in the state of Goa.

Irshalgad is a fort situated in the Karjat region. The name Irshalgad itself ia a misnomer; Irshal is not a fort but a pinnacle. This is the reason why it hardly figures anywhere in history. Shivaji Maharaj captured the vomplete region of Kalyan and Bhiwandi, up to Rairi in May 1666. This fort too, must have come under the Maratha rule at that time. Other forts in this region include Prabalgad and Malanggad. While driving along the Mumbai Pune highway, the forts of Malanggad, Devni Pinnacle, Matheran,

# 7 Trek to Kalsubai via new traverse route on 17th Night – 18th Jan 2015.

Short Info:

Region: Ahmadnagar-Igatpuri.

Height: 5400 ft (aprx.)

Grade: Medium.

Base Village: Udhavne.

About:

It is said that Kalsubai name is taken from a Koli girl named Kalsu.' Kalsu, according to the story, was fond of wandering in the forest. One day she came to Indor at the foot of the hill now called Kalsubai, and took service with a Koli family on condition that she should not be asked to clean pots or to sweep. Matters went smoothly till, one day, one of the families ordered Kalsu to clean some pots and clear away some Utter. She did as she was bid, bat, immediately after, climbed the hill and stayed on its top till her death. Where she cleaned the pots is known as Thale Mel, and where she cleared away the litter as Kaldara. The hill is a natural stronghold about ten miles south-east of Igatpuri, the nearest railway station. Its top is a cone with room only for a small shrine and a trigonometrically survey cairn. There is a large lower shoulder without remains of buildings, and the absence of water cisterns shows that the hill was never used as a fort.

2014-12-13T00:40:00.001-08:00

“Ratan” means jewel. Ratangad is known as the jewel fort. It is situated in dense forests of Kalsubai – Harishchandragad range and offers a very beautiful view from the top. Fort Type: Hill Maximum Height: 4255 ft. Region: Igatpuri Base Village: Ratanwadi. Difficulty: Medium Cost: Rs. 750/- {It includes Morning Breakfast, Travelling from Dadar to dadar by private Non Ac Bus , Guide & expertise charges}. History:- The fort is origin for the river Pravara / Amrutvahini . The Bhandardara dam is built on this river. Ratangad has a natural rock peak with a cavity in it at the top which is called 'Nedhe' or 'Eye of the Needle'; formed by natural erosion, it is big enough to accommodate a group Of ten people and the view of the entire region from here is absolutely amazing. Ratangad was captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje Bhosle and was one of his favourites. The base village Ratanwadi has a beautiful Amruteshwar temple which is famous for its carvings. The entry to the fort is through two ladders & the ladders are in poor shape. One of them has the railing of a complete side hanging, while the other has no railings for the last 5 rungs. Besides they are supported by apparently flimsy supports. And another entrance of the fort is called Tryambak darwaza, this is Main Entrance. The steep way down from the Tryambak darwaza are little risky. A chor darwaza ("Secret entrance") the fort lies below the walls. A water tank on top of the mountain. Naneghat
(Marathi: नाणेघाट) is a mountain pass in the Western Ghats range near
Junnar in Pune district of Maharashtra, India. During the reign of the
Satavahana (200 BCE–190 CE), the pass was extensively used as a trade
route between Kalyan and Junnar. Literally, the name nane means "coin"
and ghat means "pass". The name is given because this path was used as a
