Funky India Lotus Flower

Nothing too deep here, just a decorative lotus flower design by Shanti Tees inspired by the textile designs of India. Tried this one in a few monochrome versions as well to see how those fly, see below. ST is going to be doing more decorative and monochrome type designs in the near future in preparation for a wholesale line. Stay tuned, but it probably won't be tomorrow anyway.

Tantric Cobra Snake with Lotus Flower

Shanti Tees has always been fascinated by the multi-headed and arm thing with the Hindu and Buddhist gods, and also the multi-headed snake that shows up in Tantric art. I haven’t seen a real explanation of it, but an off the cuff guess would be to symbolize the Kundalini energy moving up through the chakras. So i fooled around with this for awhile and ended up with a grumpy and irritated looking, anatomically suspect and chromatically dodgy cobra snake with a jewel on each of his heads, and a lotus flower thrown in for the sake of overkill. At some point i'd like to do a line drawing version with this one, but i need to find a way to sort out doing scales that doesn't take 2 weeks.

Om (Aum) Symbol in Lotus Ring Mandala

We already have way too many Om (Aum) symbol designs, that's why they have their own website called Aum Tees . But we still thought that Shanti Tees needed it's own Om symbol design, so this one is in a lotus ring mandala with a few variations. Also a different colored one shown below, and also a line drawing variation. The peanut gallery at RedBubble seems to have voted the line drawing version as the winner of the bunch so far.

Buddhist T Shirts - Monochrome Line Drawings

Something a bit different for Bodhicitta Tees. BT was trained as a painter, and justifies the penchant for glitz and violent color by the gilt and color used on Tibetan Buddhist thangka. But some may prefer a more subtle approach to design, especially if you're going to be wearing it. And there's a plethora of precedent in Buddhist drawings and manuscripts for line drawing designs, so we reworked a few of out designs as monochrome line drawings. And because i like the looks of them, I'll probably continue doing more of these as well.

The BT site is a trainwreck, but hopefully we'll get that all sorted out by the end of next week. Two lotus throne mandalas by Bodhicitta Tees inspired by the Tibetan thangka. At top left,Shakyamuni Buddha floats in a lotus throne mandala. At top right, the syllables of the mantra of the Buddhist Bodhisattva of Compassion, Avalokiteshvara,(Kwan Yin), "Om Mani Padme Hum", meaning "The Jewel in the Lotus" are contained in the petals of the mandala, with seed syllable Hsi in the center.

Common symbols in Tibetan, Indian, and Chinese art, and that of the other Buddhist countries precious jewels representing some of the 7 precious possesions of the chakravartin, or “on for whom the wheel of dharma is turning”. Shakyamuni Buddha is referred to as a chakravartin.
Above, counter-clockwise from top left - top and bottom left images are 2 versions of the earrings of the Precious Queen. Bottom right is the square-shaped earrings of the Precious Minister. Top tigh is a stylized Triple Jewel, representing the three jewels of Buddhism, the Buddha, the Sangha, and the Dharma.

Tibet Style Lotus Flowers with Vajra and Bell

Variations on the Tibet style lotus flower in the previous post from Bodhicitta Tees . Tibet style lotus flower with vajra, on the left, the diamond thunderbolt of Tibetan Buddhism. Common symbols on Tibetan Thangka, often held by Arhats and other personages, one in each hand. Lotus flower with a vajra topped bell on the right. The Vajra represents the masculine, the bell represents the feminine. Forgot to mention last post BT has it's own new Bodhicitta Tees Blog now as well.

New from Ming Tees . OK, another weird one. This design combines symbols i found on a long scroll in a Taoist art text. The central image is the ying and yang symbols conjoined with the seed, or the meditator in the middle, surrounded by the phases of the moon. The pair of dragons were done from an image from the public domain, as it’s way over MT’s drafting abilities. The white circle with a dot in the middle is a stylized pearl.

Ming Tees is spring cleaning out designs, lots of overhauls and new colors for some. Awhile ago i did a t shirt using this Japanese style crest lotus design with orchid flowers. But i’m not really happy with with that one, and this sort of style and composition is more what i had in mind. So bye to the orchids, and still trying for a surf /tropical sort of feel, with plumeria, or frangipani, instead.
