Couple of design redos from Ming Tees that were kicking around for awhile and badly in need of a makeover. Top left is a Chinese Peony design, symbol of wealth, love, sex, marriage, and good fortune, inspired by Chinese tapestries and brocade textiles, and we added a Double Happiness symbol as well. Top right is a badly needed redo of an Iris flower design inspired by Japanese graphics and textiles, has a bit of a tropical feel now.

Ahimsa Mandala Shirt - And Another Sale!

New T shirt design from Shanti Tees . Mandala adapted from the Jain symbol of the vow of Ahimsa, a rule of conduct barring the killing or injuring of any living being, and the fundamental principle that is the cornerstone of the Jainist ethics and doctrine. Ahimsa is also the main yama of yoga practice. Ahimsa also required the non-harming, violence, or injury to the self as well as to other living beings.
The Jainist Ahimsa mandala consists of the word “Ahimsa” in script in the middle of a dharmachakra, or wheel of dharma, with 24 spokes, symbolizing the 24 tirthankars, or enlightened beings. Our version uses India style decorated stylized petals and leaves for the 24 wheel spokes, to emphasize the concept of life. For more information about Ahimsa, see Wikipedia for a general overview. And Yoga Journal gives a good overview of Ahimsa in relation to yoga practice.

Shanti Tees' funky version of the 2-petalled, eye-shaped Anja (meaning command) (6th) chakra with India style decoration. Located in Third Eye, or pineal gland. Associated color – indigo. Sacred symbol Om (Aum) in the center. Rules the intuition and visualization. ( I have seen this chakra called both the Ajna and Anja chakra. Can't find out which is actually correct.)

Aum Tees' drafting skills seem to be going downhill lately, so we gave ourselves a break and had some fun with images the public domain. But what was supposed to be a nice subtle 1 or 2 color toile style design inspired by India fabric prints ended up being extreme overkill as it morphed into a design that looks like something from a Victorian brothel. But i somehow kind of like it. Even sort of a lot. Think abundance, that's the ticket. And maybe next week we'll get back to the subtlety attempt. Funky India Lotus Flower

Tantric Cobra Snake with Lotus Flower

Shanti Tees has always been fascinated by the multi-headed and arm thing with the Hindu and Buddhist gods, and also the multi-headed snake that shows up in Tantric art. I haven’t seen a real explanation of it, but an off the cuff guess would be to symbolize the Kundalini energy moving up through the chakras. So i fooled around with this for awhile and ended up with a grumpy and irritated looking, anatomically suspect and chromatically dodgy cobra snake with a jewel on each of his heads, and a lotus flower thrown in for the sake of overkill. At some point i'd like to do a line drawing version with this one, but i need to find a way to sort out doing scales that doesn't take 2 weeks.

We already have way too many Om (Aum) symbol designs, that's why they have their own website called Aum Tees . But we still thought that Shanti Tees needed it's own Om symbol design, so this one is in a lotus ring mandala with a few variations. Also a different colored one shown below, and also a line drawing variation. The peanut gallery at RedBubble seems to have voted the line drawing version as the winner of the bunch so far.

Buddhist T Shirts - Monochrome Line Drawings

Something a bit different for Bodhicitta Tees. BT was trained as a painter, and justifies the penchant for glitz and violent color by the gilt and color used on Tibetan Buddhist thangka. But some may prefer a more subtle approach to design, especially if you're going to be wearing it. And there's a plethora of precedent in Buddhist drawings and manuscripts for line drawing designs, so we reworked a few of out designs as monochrome line drawings. And because i like the looks of them, I'll probably continue doing more of these as well.

The BT site is a trainwreck, but hopefully we'll get that all sorted out by the end of next week.
