We are delighted to have Keynote Speaker Sam Bacharach join us to discuss “How to Unlock Your Potential”. Sam is currently a McKelvey-Grant Professor of Labor Management at Cornell University. He is also the Director of ILR’s New York City based Institute for Workplace Studies as well as the Director of the Smithers Institute and the Director of the New York City-based Master of Professional Studies.

His work has been reviewed in The New York Times, Fast Company, HR Magazine, CIO Magazine, Investor’s Business Daily, Leadership Excellence, and Harvard Management Update. He is the author of Get Them on Your Side: Win Support, Convert Skeptics, and Get Results and Keep Them on Your Side: Leading and Managing for Momentum. He has been a speaker and trainer for numerous corporate events and the online version of his courses has been subscribed to by many Fortune 500 companies. It is with honor and privilege that I welcome Jim Rise as the new Executive Management Sponsor for our chapter.  Jim is Vice President of Operations and Strategy for North American Resellers and Site Executive at Xerox’s beautiful Wilsonville, Oregon campus.  Rise joined Tektronix, Inc. as an engineer in 1986 upon his graduation from Oregon State University with both a BA degree and a BS in Mechanical Engineering.  Rise has been involved in color printing and ink jet technologies for over 20 years.  In his current capacity within North American Resellers, Rise is responsible for strategy, operational excellence, Managed Print Services, and Lean Six Sigma. 

We look forward to the strong leadership and support that Jim will bring to our ACT community.

Wilsonville ACT Chapter

ACT Rochester Community Involvement Event – August 21^st, 2010

Event: Habitat for Humanity, Ontario County Chapter (Geneva, NY)

Date: Saturday, August 21st, 2010

Time: 8:00AM to 4:00 PM, weather permitting

Project information:

• The site is in Geneva, NY: 30 Hawkins Ave., Geneva 14456 (on the East side not far from the new Lowes in Geneva – Geneva is at the top end of Seneca Lake)
• Construction at this site starts on August 14^th – “Blitz Week” August 14th thru 21st (Saturday to Saturday).  During Blitz Week the construction of a home will start with the foundation on the 14th & have it completely finished on the outside and partly finished on the inside by the 21st 
• No experience required – only the desire to help make it happen
• Will handle groups of up to 25 people
• Only volunteers 16 years of age or older are permitted to work on HFH construction projects.  16 & 17 year olds need written parental consent (liability waiver form required)
• Please bring signed insurance waivers on the first day you volunteer. (Contact Mahase Prasad for the waiver)
• Please bring protection from the sun, gloves, claw hammer, utility knife, tape measure if you have them 
• Please wear closed toe shoes and dress in layers, shorts are ok if it is very hot
• HfH will provide refreshments and lunch

Brief Bio of Beta Ni:

Beta has 15 years with Tek/Xerox since 1995. She is a principle engineer and was a technical program manager and program manager. She delivered many award winning color printers including Phaser 7700 before 2001. Since 2001 she started the transition from engineering to business management. She has had experience in product planning and defined our best selling WT platform of Phaser 6180 series with FX in 2002. In 2004 she moved into LSS organization to gain broad Xerox experiences and was a LSS deployment manager for the entire WV site.

Beta joined Xerox Office Group Strategy org as a Business Strategy manager in 2006. Since then, she has held many positions in Post Sale Business, Business Strategy and Business Transformation in various orgs.

She has a PH.D in Materials Science, Executive MBA. She is a certified Black Belt.

Los Angeles Elementary School has been invited to be a part of the Grand Parade at the 70th Annual Nisei Week Japanese Festival in Little Tokyo on Sunday, August 15th. Vinay has been with Xerox for 15 years in management field. Having lived in both Rochester and Wilsonville locations, he has experienced differences in working cultures of two sites, developed a broad view of Xerox. Vinay has held positions in Business operations, Strategic planning and Marketing organizations. He is currently in Worldwide Channel marketing role. He has an Engineering degree and an MBA.

Brief Bio of Leonard:

Leonard obtained his Masters in Mechanical Engineering from University of Washington and started his career with Tektronix back in 1995 as a Mechanical Design Engineer.

He had held a variety of engineering positions (Design, Technical Lead) at Xerox before venturing into Program Management for the A4 Color Desktop Group at XOG in 2003. Within 6 years, Leonard has lead teams to launch 3 challenging products (the latest being WC 6400, aka Nottingham). So far, the programs he had managed is estimated to bring in approximately $750M in revenue for Xerox.

With the recent creation of A4 Partnered Platform Development Group within, Leonard has accepted the role of Development Support Manager.

We are starting the ACT Wilsonville Career Mentoring Talk series to bring the perspective of middle managers to ACT members and ACT Interest group

The first in the series addressing us is Srini Deshiikan, Manager, Ink Manufacturing Technology and Strategy. His topic is “GUIDING YOURSELF AT XEROX”. Srini’s bio is attached.  

Srini may show a short video and will begin his talk at 12:10 PM. At 12:40 PM he plans to take questions from the audience.  Broad topics Srini will cover include:

• What works and what doesn’t work in Xerox for career development.
• Personal experience and motivation for career advancement.
• Management track vs. Technical track.
• Advice to ACT members.
• Other themes the speaker wants to enlighten us on.
