Airtel Launch DTH TV Service in India - Powered by Broadcom Technology

Bharti Airtel has selected Broadcom's highly integrated satellite set-top box (STB) system-on-chip (SoC) solutions to power its direct-to-home (DTH) TV services -- Airtel digital TV -- marking Broadcom's first commercial satellite product launch in India.

With an exploding interest in DTH TV services, India's burgeoning pay-TV market potential is expected to include 90 million subscribers by 2012, according to In-Stat market research. "Direct-to-home technology is emerging as the leading digital TV transmission platform in India," said Mike Paxton, a principal analyst at In-Stat. "Consumer demand for better picture quality and advanced video services have become catalysts that are driving demand for DTH pay-TV services throughout India."

Six Arrested in chandigarh with Explosives

Six persons were today reportedly (December 9) arrested from a bus stand in chandigarh and explosive substance was recovered from their possession.

The accused, believed to be labourers, were arrested by (CRPF) personnel from the local bus stand in the early morning , police said, and adding that the substance recovered is low intensity explosive used for blowing bridges.

The laborers are workers involved in construction work at Roru in Himachal Pradesh.

Security is on an all-time high in Chandigarh, with the second Test match between England and India scheduled to be held at Mohali from December 19.

SBI to hire 4200 for associate banks

SBI said in a public announcement today that it plans to recruit 4,280 clerical staff at its various associate banks for operations across the country.

The various associate banks for which SBI is looking to recruit the staff include State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of hyderabad, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Indore, State Bank of Patiala and State Bank of Travancore. visit www.sbi.com for more details

There are more than 1,000 vacancies each with State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Patiala and State Bank of Travancore, between 240 and 440 employees would be recruited for each of State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Indore and State Bank of Mysore.

SBI Chairman O P Bhatt said on November 16 that SBI was hiring 20,000 clerical staff and 5,000 people in supervisory positions in the current fiscal.

India tells Pakistan to Hand over 20 wanted terrorists.

A Pakistani government minister said that Pakistan will "frame a response" to India’s demand that it hand over 20 of India's most wanted men,

"We have to look at it formally once we get it and we will frame a response," Pakistan Information minister Sherry Rehman told reporters in Islamabad.

Indian Foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters that the demand was contained in a protest note handed to Pakistan's ambassador yesterday.

Pakistan has warned US that if tension with India escalates, it will move its troops from its Afghan border ,where it is fighting with al-Qaida and Taliban fighters responsible for violence in Pakistan and Afghanistan to the Indian border. That would be a serious blow to US-led efforts to stabilize Afghanistan and defeat al-Qaida.

The men on the most wanted list include Dawood Ibrahim, a Mumbai underworld don, and Maulana Masood Azhar, a Pakistani Muslim cleric freed from jail in India in exchange for passengers on a hijacked plane.

Khalbali cast distracted by topless women

During the shooting near a poolside in Bangkok for their forthcoming film Khalbali, the cast and the crew were constantly distracted by a group of topless women relaxing there. "Director Ajay Chandok was shooting a song there," a source said.

3 Killed and 30 injured in Assam Train Bomb blast

A month after deadly serial explosions rocked the state leaving nearly 80 dead. today At least three persons were reported killed and 30 badly injured when suspected KLNLF militants triggered a blast in a passenger train at Diphu in central Assam's Karbi Anglong district,

The Karbi Liongri National Liberation Front, enforcing an "indefinite economic blockade" on national highways and rail tracks in the state, allegedly planted the bomb in a general compartment of Tinsukia-Lumding passenger train which exploded around 8 am, police said.

Police said that the bombs which were kept inside coach numbers 8209 of 901 Lumding-Tinsukia passenger train, exploded around 8 am as soon as it entered Diphu railway station.

At least 101 people have been killed and more than 600 injured in attacks by terroist gunmen in Mumbai, police said on Thursday

"At least six foreigners have been killed and the death figure has gone up to 101 now," Ramesh Tayde, a senior police officer told from Mumbai's control room.
