Week 9 – Landscape

I fell behind a little on the #weeklyphotoproject2013 , so just catching up with Week 9 of the project, the theme was Landscape..

Perfect timing though as I went up to the viewing deck at The Shard over the weekend, where I took this shot of the many visitors taking in the view of the London landscape from the 69th Floor..

The Burj Khalifa this is not, but it does have a splendid 360 degree view of the beautiful city we live in…

I was also looking forward to doing some long exposure night photography from up there.. Unfortunately they don’t allow the use of tripods.. which was quite a disappointment..

Overall, it was a very good experience.. and London looks much much better in the dark when it’s all lit up.. If you plan to visit.. make sure you book around sunset…

The Fourth Plinth at Trafalgar Square

“Powerless Structures, Fig. 101″ is the name of this latest sculpture in place on the fourth plinth at Trafalgar Square. The sculpture of the Boy on a Rocking Horse is the fifth in a series of artwork which has been placed on this plinth since 2005.

The plinth, built in 1841, was originally designed to host a bronze equestrian statue of King William IV designed by architect Sir Charles Barry. Instead it is now home to pieces of artwork which will be on display here. The previous sculpture “Ship in a Bottle” by Yinka Shonibare was replaced by this sculpture in February 2012.

Desert Drive

During a long road trip from Abu Dhabi to Hameem, in the south of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, I decided to pull over on the highway and take some shots in the extreme heat.. The journey was about 3.5 hours, and my wife was fast asleep for probably 3/4 of the journey, so I got plenty of opportunity to get some photography done on route..

“Love” Sculpture by Ana Tzarev

One of the many 15ft sculptures by Ana Tzarev which will be installed in cities around the globe.

Created by world-renowned artist Ana Tzarev, the series of connected sculptures, spanning the planet and carrying a global message of ‘love, peace and understanding’, are her most ambitious work to date.

The 75-year-old artist is installing a collection of elaborate and brightly coloured 15ft flowers in a number of carefully selected venues in seven different countries around the world.

According to Croatian-born Tzarev the flowers, which when taken as a whole will become the world’s largest sculpture, will be placed in areas where millions of people will be able to see them as they go about their daily lives. [Source]
