Cassidy is such a beautiful little girl..flawless skin, she’s calm and sweet and has the most perfect lips. Just look at that little smile she gave me.

When’s the big day? Aug 11, 2012

How did you meet? After a series of fateful decisions, we met in 2005 in a line outside of the Roadhouse. I was there with a friends birthday and Matt was meeting friends inside for one of his friends birthday. Once inside Matt bought us a drink and my friend went to check his jacket. While checking his jacket my buddy was kicked out (presumably for drinking from a flask in line?) and I was unknowingly left alone with Matt. We spent most of the evening looking for our friends which neither of us ever found. Matt and I spent the rest of the night dancing together and a few days later he called to ask me for drinks.

Interestingly we later learned that our fathers not only worked in the same building downtown, but parked next to each other. They knew each other long before Matt and I met from various elevator conversations. More interesting then that, is that that our late grandfathers worked together long before our fathers would have met.

How did he propose?

We had planned to go to NYC in October as one of my best friends had just moved there and Matt had always wanted to go. I really just thought this was a fun getaway to somewhere we both had wanted to visit. What I didn’t know was that Matt had done far more planning…

Our first day there Matt had seemed really distracted which I brushed off as being overwhelmed by being in such an iconic place. He also seemed rather stressed about the timing of the tickets he had purchased for he and I and my bestie to go to the Empire State Building for sunset. It really was a journey as we had no luck getting a cab and Matt was practically in a sprint to get there. I was thinking that the sun was getting lower in the sky, but it seemed we would still have lots of time to get some great photos. It should be noted that in our day-to-day lives, I am the stickler for being on time and Matt is more laid back but on this day our roles could not have been more reversed. The other thing is that given that it is the three of us going…I am not suspecting anything romantic. I was just thinking how grateful I was that I am getting to share this experience with my friend and my boyfriend. After a sprint to the building, a bypass of a couple line-ups, and a cheesy souvenir picture, we were on our way to the observation deck.

The elevator doors opened to reveal a hint of the amazing views of New York City from out on the observation deck. My instant reaction was that we must get out there so we can get a good spot for sunset. The first doors we walked up to were automatic doors that despite my waving my hands in front of the sensor would not open. Matt, ever the problem solver is saying no just go further around. Okay fine, but I wanted to get outside so I rush over to door number two. Just as I reach for the handle I hear Matt say “no go around further”. A strange request but fine, coming up on door number three again Matt is saying to keep going around. At this point I am almost ready to throw a protest to just get outside, really that’s the whole point isn’t it? But before I can say anything I turn the corner and down at the far end is my Mom and Dad and Matt’s cousin Mark and cousin-in-law Linda.

My first thought was “OMG! This can only be one thing!”, and I could feel myself begin to shake. Slightly dazed, we reached the family and after a moment of awkward conversation it happened. Matt had a ring and was down one knee, and I instantly was crying. I am not sure what Matt said (thank goodness there was a lot of filming going on) but for the first time ever I was rendered completely speechless. Importantly, in the end I somehow I managed to nod out a yes!

The rest of our time at the top was a blur for me, as I mostly shook and cried. I remember trying to take in the view without much luck. There were just a few hundred things going through my mind, so it is really a good thing that we took a lot of pictures. We all went down to the lounge on the main floor for a couple of bottles of champagne. My shaking had hardly subsided when I hear someone say “does she know the other thing yet?” Matt pipes up and says “Oh ya, so we don’t have anything planned for Saturday right? Because you have an appointment at Kleinfelds at 1:15 PM” and the shaking started all over again.

Matt really did an absolutely fantastic job!!

he says: Kelsey is smart and has a great sense of humour
she says: Matt has a big heart and is hilarious

Your idea of a perfect date?
he says: Going out for a great meal
she says: I’ll second that!

Traveling together and experiencing new things

When’s the big day?
August 5 2012.


How did you meet?
I (Tristan) was working at sold out Roger Sanchez event in Montreal, at a busy night club called Le Medley. Towards the end of the show, a couple friends of mine and I decided to venture out of our area and check out the rest of the concert hall. As we were making our way down some stairs, approaching the DJ booth and dance floor area, a strobe light was flashing and I noticed a beautiful girl amongst a crowd of thousands of people. I lost Jodi and her group of friends for a bit in the mob and as we turned another direction, a friend of mine spotted her… I quickly darted to the center of the dance floor with my two wingmen and introduced ourselves to her and her friends… I gave Jodi my phone number. She called me about two weeks later… 6 years later and a massive move across Canada to Calgary from Montreal, we’re now anticipating our big day!

How did he/she propose?
I proposed under the Christmas tree while decorating… ha ha ha Jodi can explain this one : )
For Christmas 2010- Tristan went out and purchased the largest real Christmas tree I have ever seen in someones home. It touched the top of our nine foot ceilings and cost I think $300!! I was actually very irritated he would spend so much money on the tree, and more irritated when I found out he spend more on outrageous Christmas balls, lights and a big star ( I think I complained to all my friends and family for days). The night came to decorate our tree and Tristan had prepared a fondu dinner with flowers, candles and wine (not totally abnormal)- we went to start decorating the enormous tree and I realized he had purchased LED lights intended for the exterior of a home. I made him go back to Canadian Tire (twice in fact) to get the right lights. I was truthfully really not very nice that evening (the true test of love). Eventually after two trips to the store we finished the tree and as I was putting on the star Tristan told me to grab onto a ribbon tied to the top. To my COMPLETE surprise It was a ring and I turned around on my chair to find Tristan on his knee! I said YES of course and vowed to never complain about Christmas tree lights or decorations ever again…….

Favorite thing about each other?
he says: her infectious smile…
she says: his dimples and his ability to interact with any person in any situation and make them feel comfortable.

Your idea of a perfect date?
he says: My idea of a perfect date would be without an agenda or cell phones, somewhere hot on a secluded white sandy beach, with turquoise water, some good food with a nice bottle of wine.
she says: Anything we do together is a perfect date. I truly enjoy our walks at the dog park and trips to costco almost as much as a nice romantic dinner.

Kisses, hugs or snuggles?
he says: All of the above. Can’t get enough..
she says: kisses for sure…. I’m still warming up to the idea of letting someone totally smush me but I’m coming around….

What’s your favorite thing to do together?
My favorite thing to do with Jodi is spend time on nice trails while walking our wiener dogs. I also enjoy cooking a nice meal together and dancing in our kitchen. ( I agree- Just be ourselves- Jodi)

Favorite Starbucks drink?
he says: Americano Misto
she says: soy latte

Your favorite hangout?
At home together or at the lake (sylvan)

One place in the world you must go see?
he + she says: French Polynesians

What are you looking forward to the most on your wedding day?
he says: Locking eyes with my fiancé and then calling her my wife-
she says: seeing him looking handsome wearing his adorable smile as I walked down the aisle toward him in front of all of friends and family knowing he will be by my side for the rest of our lives
