Most of you already know we’ve taken on the challenge of integrating another Lakeland Terrorist – er, I mean Terrier into our pack. Now with the two of them with their dog-whisperer at Boot Camp for two weeks, we have high hopes of smoothing the wrinkles out of this transition. . .as long as Alan Brown attends too!

Even more exciting though, is that we are proud and extremely excited to announce that award-winning artist, Linda Daniels, has agreed to accept commissions in oil for our clients! A favorite of Gallery One collectors, Linda Daniels is a Masterworks in Miniature “People’s Choice” winner. Her portraits of dogs, cats and people are sought-after by savvy collectors everywhere. She can work from your photos, so the portrait can be of a current pet or a remembrance of one from the past. We’ll “book” these portraits on a “first come, first served” basis. . .so call us ASAP. A deposit of just one-third is required. Her quality is second to none, she understands the importance of deadlines and her prices are very friendly.

An accomplished artist, Linda Daniels, was born in 1945. She was named Artist of the Year by the Timberwolf Alliance and by Ducks Unlimited. She has exhibited in the Arts for the Parks Top 100 Tour, as well as the China Exhibition. Her art has been featured in The Best of Wildlife Art and on the covers of Wildlife Art and Collector's Mart Magazines.

You’ll find samples of her work at galleryone.com. Call 800.621.1141 or 440.255.1200 for more information or to book your commission. That's all for now!

<georss:box>41.4764633 -81.66227550000002 41.855851300000005 -81.01682850000003</georss:box>

Small and In Charge

Momma, Clancy and Shayna

As some of you already know, Momma & Poppa have decided to bestow upon me a new sister!! Shayna is a two year old wheat colored Lakeland Terrier like me. Last Wednesday we drove 9 hours to pick her up from the rescue group where she was living. She is about 5 pounds lighter than me (as girls should be). We had a wonderful weekend playing & getting to know each other. Everything seemed PERFECT! She did need a haircut though, so that was the first order of business.

Clancy at the groomer

Her appointment was for 10 a.m. Friday so we came in to the gallery & I introduced her to the staff. Everyone loved her & the feeling seemed mutual. We ran around the gallery together just to show how much we enjoyed each other. Then, after we went back into Poppa’s office, it happened! Our first big fight! Maybe we’re both to blame, but wow! Now I know why they’re called b i t c h e s! Yikes! Now Momma & Poppa have to devise strategies for breaking us up so Poppa doesn’t end up in the emergency room with stitches from breaking up our arguments. I feel so bad. I want to play. Why can’t we just get along??

I’m not worried though, Momma knows how to be the “leader of the pack” and Shayna’s really smart, so I believe there will be a happy ending to this story. We’ll keep you posted! In the meantime, check out the little video of our first meeting and the pictures of Shayna at the groomer on my Facebook page.

Great Wall - Lousy Imports

We visited China in 1997. It was a glorious trip that included the Great Wall, great cities and historic sites like the Terra Cotta warriors. We loved the food, the people, the vistas and the bargains.

However, in the fifteen years that followed our trip to China (and especially recently), we've become increasingly wary of many Chinese imports. Especially imports that could affect our beloved Clancy, the 19-pound Lakeland Terrier and “Patron of the Arfs” who runs our lives.

For example:

Recently, Clancy suffered two troubling bouts of stomach distress and lethargy that neither we nor our vet could explain. Trolling the internet, we saw hundreds of postings warning us of Chinese-manufactured food, toys, bedding, etc. And a search of Clancy's toy box and personal effects (even his bedding and his toothpaste) revealed that nearly all of his belongings were made in China! Yes, Martha Stewart toys and clothing! Designer treats! Etc! Of course, it is possible that all of his Made in China goods were perfectly safe. But reports of lead, chemicals and arsenic put us on edge. We were reminded of the thousands of homes containing Chinese drywall that releases sulfur gases capable of corroding pipes and wiring. Such drywall has even caused the failure of smoke detectors and electronic devices, not to mention the respiratory ailments and sinus problems that homeowners, their children and their pets have suffered. So, as a precaution, in the past few days, we have junked ALL of Clancy's Made in China products in favor of Made in America items.

Coincidentally, we have known for some time that Chinese imports of art are prevalent. Art dealers can easily work with Chinese printing companies to fraudulently have unauthorized works of art reproduced for sale in the United States. We've seen fraudulent works pretending to be done by Kinkade, Pino, Brenders, Daly and more; some even claim to be original paintings! Of course, the artists get no royalties. Collectors are purchasing inferior images done under false pretensions. And stateside distributors are guilty of misleading the public in order to enrich their wallets.

Thankfully, Clancy appears to have made a full recovery...and whether his Made in China items contributed to his illness or not can be argued. We're just not willing to take a chance on his health. If you are the parent(s) of a treasured pet, you might want to look into the plethora of Chinese products that surround your dog or cat and consider an Internet search for sites offering Made in America pet products.

And if you are a concerned art dealer or collector, you might want to check your art sources. Always deal with a reputable art gallery, and before you make a major art investment, do your homework. We take great pride in the fact that you have made Gallery One a trusted source for nearly 40 years, and we will continue to proudly serve you in that capacity.

And along these same lines, we would like to tell you that our fabulous line, Gallery Giclées™, is made from the finest components. Our canvases and stretcher bars are all made in America. All of the printing, coating, stretching and shipping is done right here in Ohio, USA....by the most talented and caring staff in the industry. As always, if you have questions or concerns, we welcome your calls. You'll find us here...in the good old USA!

Spring Shadows by Terry Isaac

Let's focus on florals for example. Terry Isaac has two original acrylic floral entries; one features daisies and one with lilies. Diane Hoeptner, new to Masterworks, has a tulip floral and a hydrangea floral. Amanda Carder Lovett's posey and peonies are two more examples of florals. Simon Bull gives his floral a more modern flair. Rowenna Anderson is usually known for her florals, but this year submitted a cityscape of Venice.

Ladies in Waiting by Lynn Ponto-Peterson

We have several still lifes in the show. Gail MacArgle sent another outstanding oil called "A" is for Apple. If you prefer watercolors, Lynn Ponto-Peterson has created a lovely image titled Ladies in Waiting. Richard Plasschaert's Egg Shells is exquisite! Jan Stommes' cold beverages would make a perfect addition to your bar area. Marie Line Fourmont's porcelains will grace your kitchen or boudoir.

Loyalty by Jocelyn Russell

Don't overlook sculpture when decorating your home or office. Miniature sculpture's 3D quality makes a significant impact in a small space. Paul Brunelle's textural fired clay birds are so realistic their eyes follow your movements and you're sure they'll fly away. Jocelyn Russell's incredibly intricate bronze of a spaniel has to be seen to be believed. They are just two of the sculpture artists in the show.

Leopard by Lee Kromschroeder

Allan Hancock, Lee Kirschbaum, Lee Kromschroeder, Susan Labouri, Rebecca, Bonnie and Karen Latham, Otto Lawson, Peter Mathios, Jan Martin McGuire, John Mullane, Ron Orlando, Harold Roe, Linda Rossin, Linda Scott, Mort Solbert and Floy Zittin. They offer everything from birds to zebras and fit any space and budget.

Our living spaces can and should surround us with the things we love and inspire us with their beauty. If we put our treasure where our heart is, we're sure to be happy. This is the true value of art. Don't miss this chance to visit online or stop by in person and see this truly incredible exhibit before it closes this Saturday at 6 p.m.

<georss:box>41.4764633 -81.66227550000002 41.855851300000005 -81.01682850000003</georss:box>

Clancy Unleashed!

Hi everyone! If you haven't already seen it, be sure to watch me doing my newest trick on the treadmill. I've found it to be a great way to stay in shape when the weather is too cold, wet, icy or the snow comes up past my shoulders. Even with the 4 sweaters & 4 coats I have to choose from, if it's just too yucky, I don't want to spend any more time outside than is absolutely necessary. . .if you know what I mean!

I get a lot of inspiration from first dog, Bo! In fact we're fur-riends on Facebook now! Have you heard of PALA? "The Presidential Active Lifestyle Award challenge will help you add
physical activity to your life—and now, it will also help improve your
eating habits." Maybe you can register and "earn the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award.
All it takes is a commitment to being active and healthier eating for 6
out of 8 weeks. Stick with the program and you’ll earn an award in less
than two months."

Another great program for staying active is called Let's Move! This is a program launched by First Lady Michelle Obama. She's dedicated to solving the problem of obesity within a generation. Why not look into that??

Did you know owning a dog is one of the best ways to promote exercise? Maybe it's easy to put off a walk around the block or romping in the backyard if you're alone, but not if you have to say no to a puppy face! Am I right?

Well, as a wise man once said, "The secret to life? Keep Moving!"

Alan Brown, photographer and president - Gallery One

On February 16, Gallery One’s Alan Brown will celebrate his 75th birthday with the opening of a retrospective exhibit representing his half century love affair with photography.

Brown’s fascination with photography began in high school when he photographed events, historic buildings and even used his telescope to obtain “Life Magazine” worthy images of the moon.

He first journeyed to Kenya and Tanzania in 1990, recording images of exotic animal life and fascinating African tribesmen. In 1994, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History launched a three-month one-man exhibit featuring his images of the mountain gorillas of Rwanda. Now, 25 years later, Brown’s original photographs are available as vibrant giclées on canvas, and his works are prominent at Gallery One, the company he founded with wife Norah Lynne in 1974.

The opening of Brown’s “First 75 Years” will feature a 2 p.m. lecture, followed by a celebration complete with giant birthday cake for all attendees. His photographic images will hang through February and will include wildlife, landscapes, florals and landmarks, both local and exotic, from 8” x 10” to 40” x 60.” Many are based on his extensive travels to the Galapagos, the Amazon jungle, Machu Picchu, China, Alaska, Morocco, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.

Brown’s lecture will center on his unusual approach to photography. His choice camera is Contax. “I’m sold on Zeiss lenses, and while Contax is an northodox choice for outdoor photography, it works for me.” He scoffs at auto-camera features, shoots prints instead of slides - and handles his own color processing. The results are powerhouse images that have appeared in national magazines and won numerous awards including honors from USArt Magazine, Popular Photography, Wildlife Art Magazine, American Photo, Photographer’s Forum and Lake Metroparks.

Please join us for this extra special celebration!

<georss:box>41.4764633 -81.66227550000002 41.855851300000005 -81.01682850000003</georss:box>

Looking Ahead to 2013

We have many irons in the fire for 2013! We'll have parties, exhibits, new releases from Gallery Giclées and of course, Masterworks in Miniature 2013.

Alan Brown, president Gallery One

February brings a very special celebration of Gallery One president, Alan Brown's 75th birthday. He'll publish some never before seen images from his vast collection of photographs; and he hints that they won't necessarily be wildlife. In their 53 years of marriage, Alan & Norah Lynne have traveled all over the world gathering images and memories along the way. This birthday exhibit will feature those images taken from five continents.

Masterworks in Miniature 2013 is scheduled for March 8-23. Now in it's 22nd year, this show is the perfect opportunity for anyone looking to start a collection of original art! With image sizes restricted to a maximum of 9" x 12", these originals become very affordable. Over 150 participating artists include all the best sellers and some of the finest "new" talent we have discovered over the years.

Gallery Giclées has expanded the number of published artists to 10 in 2012 and we look forward to another year where we can continue to add to that number. Watch for spring releases from Jim Daly, Alan Brown and Anthony Cook!
Well, we've seen Robert Bateman, the Kinkade Highlighter, Dean Morrissey and even Jim Ptacek come and go leaving us with their exhibits that have been holiday traditions for us for several years now. But this year is extra special because we can add the first ever Cold Nose <3 Warm Art contestants' entries to our exhibits. You really should take the time to see this display of students' art, even if you don't know any entrants. And if you actually know one of the 150 some students, then by all means come and see their first ever real gallery exhibit!

Clancy was in his glory as he greeted his admirers and hopes to see more of them as they come to pick up their art and awards after Christmas. They each received a ribbon and a Dean Morrissey signed print. Pictures and a winners list can be seen at Clancy's Facebook page! And check out the pictures and videos of the show at our Art Events page.

Now Guhonda and Clancy are scrambling to fill all the holiday orders! Here's 290+ seasonal gift ideas if you haven't finished shopping. Don't forget that gift certificates can be purchased in any amount and emailed right up to the last minute!

Norah Lynne Brown, Robert Bateman, Alan Brown
(30 years ago)

Things are all abuzz here at Gallery One! Robert Bateman will be with us again
this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.! Jen has completely re-arranged
the exhibits to make way for more of his works. The exhibit is as spectacular
as it always is when she gets a show ready. But this one features a huge
variety of his older papers and the best selection of his newer giclées that
you’ll ever find anywhere; and they’re all beautifully framed! You’ll find a
big shipment of his newest book displayed on the front counter too.

Staffing arrangements have been made for refreshments, sales and security.
We’ve had a technical rehearsal of the A/V equipment and believe we have
everything as ready as it can be for now. Final set-up will wait for just
before the show.

Even though Robert Bateman has been here 15 times before, each of his
visits generate an almost electric excitement in each one of us and in so many
of our clients. His long and illustrious career with his devotion to
conservation and his incredible body of work is a big part of the reason. But
he’s also a good friend. Don’t miss this chance to spend some time with a true
legend in the world of art! In the meantime, browse his artwork.

<georss:box>41.5712623 -81.4974805 41.7610523 -81.1816235</georss:box>

Felicia Returns!

Felicia’s art lectures divulge what your art history books failed to tell you. Entitled, “Through the Eyes of the Artist”, and inspired by Felicia’s own enthusiasm, this lecture series is designed to provide a richer insight through the artist’s personal perspective. Her education and background in art history was only the beginning of her quest for all the drama, dish and dirt that she could discover about her subjects.

Originally funded by a grant from the Cleveland Museum of Art to help bring art into the lives of school children, “Through the Eyes of the Artist” has evolved into a program for people of all ages interested in uncovering the fascinating details of the lives and works of some of our most renowned and influential artists. For the past fifteen years, Felicia has trained over 400 art docents, and delivered art history lectures in schools and communities in Ohio, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Felicia’s lectures offer an exclusive view into the remarkable lives and times of our favorite artists. Each presentation is enhanced with music, prints and wonderful images to help tell the story of the artist. In addition, every member of the audience will receive an overview of the artist and a note card memento. Add free parking, admission, coffee and donuts and you have an irresistible invitation to experience art history in an uncommon way, courtesy of Gallery One! Our doors open at 10 – see you there!

<georss:box>41.5712623 -81.4974805 41.7610523 -81.1816235</georss:box>

Keeping Up with Clancy

Lynn Kaatz, originally from Elyria OH, has announced his retirement. Well known throughout North America for his collector plates, fine prints and original paintings, Lynn was twice named winner of the Ohio "Duck Stamp" competition. His artistic talents, along with his contributions to conservation, have attracted legions of collectors and made him something of a celebrity, both locally and nationally.

Laughing, Lynn confesses to being something of a hoarder. “For years, I’ve retained ownership of hundreds of my original paintings...using my images for licensing purposes and refusing to sell the originals at any price. But now that I am 67 years old, I realize it is time make this vast inventory available to my collectors.” His official retirement exhibition will begin September 28 at Gallery One, where hundreds of his original paintings will be on display and for sale at very affordable prices.

Cocker Spaniels - original acrylic by Lynn Kaatz

To further honor Lynn, Gallery One will make a $10 donation to the Lake Humane Society for every gallery or web visitor who purchases a Kaatz original painting and tells us, "I am a friend of the Humane Society."

While Kaatz, who now lives is Florida, insists he is retiring, he has no plans to sell his paints and brushes. “I admit that I will continue to paint special commissions and scenes from my southern surroundings and, of course, I will continue my interests as a life-long conservationist.”

Kaatz can look back on a distinguished career that began in 1968 when he graduated first in his class from Cleveland’s prestigious Cooper School of Art. After a few years in California’s commercial art scene, he began a full-time career as a fine artist, racking up numerous awards. He is a two-time winner of the Ohio Wetlands Habitat Stamp Competition and a winner of the Kentucky Duck Stamp Competition. Numerous honors from Ducks Unlimited, Bradford Exchange, and scores of prestigious exhibitions are listed in his resume. He has long been a Gallery One favorite.

Pablo Picasso was the subject this time. Picasso's enormous output kept his name before the public, even though his work seemed to be far from the mainstream. His powers of invention and execution spanned more than 80 years.

Normally, Felicia chooses another artist to compare and contrast with the subject of the lecture. But Picasso had no such comparison. He is unique among artists. Attendees were entranced with the details of the life of this 20th century icon! Someone commented, “I didn’t know he was such a randy guy!”

Felicia will be back one Saturday every month through November with more drama, dish & dirt on the following artists:

Paul Gauguin

August 18 -- Paul Gauguin -- He created a profound sense of mystery in his work. It is often said that he painted and dreamed at the same time.

September 19 -- Jack Vettriano -- His prints sell more than those by old masters such as Monet and Van Gogh and yet none of his pictures can be found in any of the country's national galleries, and he has been snubbed by the arts establishment.

October 27 -- Suzanne Valadon -- Transformed herself from an artist's model into a successful artist.

November 17 -- Michelangelo -- Who said “Carving is easy, you just go down to the skin and stop.”

All lectures begin promptly at 10:30 a.m., but complimentary coffee and donuts are served at 10!

Custom framing provides you with an opportunity to get exactly what you want. You get to choose what to frame, as well as the color scheme, style and proportions. With thousands of frames and mats to choose from, the design possibilities are unlimited. By mixing and matching them in different combinations, you can hand pick frame designs to accentuate the best attributes in any piece of art.

What you will be framing plays an important role in how it will be framed. For example, a canvas is generally framed quite differently than a print on paper, even if the print is of the same image. For more information, see our Framing page.

a float frame

The subject, era, style and color scheme of the items being framed should also be factored in. When each of them is carefully considered, the resulting frame design is more likely to be in sync with the art. Even wrapped canvases can be enhanced with a float frame as shown at right.

Lee and Grant by Ed Yanok

As seen at left, there is a time and a place for framing to be of a historical nature while in other situations it is fun to explore new options. Typically any historical art, documents and artifacts are framed to look authentic to their period. If a new piece of art was painted in an old world style, it may provide the perfect opportunity to update the look with a present day frame design.

But, the simplest thing for you to do is to put yourself in the capable hands of the three Certified Professional Framers at Gallery One.

<georss:box>41.618710300000004 -81.418516 41.7136043 -81.260588</georss:box>

Save the Date – Robert Bateman Coming November 10

Artist, naturalist, activist and poet with a paintbrush, Robert Bateman returns to Gallery One this fall and we couldn’t be more excited! This prolific artist has produced over 2,000 wildlife images and is far and away the world's premier artist of the natural world. They’ve even named schools after him!
Bateman taught high school for 20 years, including two years in Nigeria, before giving it up to paint full time in 1976. His awards, honors, and honorary doctorates include Officer of the Order of Canada; their highest civilian award. His influence is strongly felt through his many movies, videos and books including, The Art of Robert Bateman, The World of Robert Bateman, Robert Bateman: An Artist in Nature and Robert Bateman: Natural Worlds and Birds. As a spokesman for environmental and preservation issues, he uses his artwork to raise millions of dollars for these worthy causes. Locally, he raised $33,000 for the Red Brick Schoolhouse in Willoughby. Read more about his life in his biography.

Back in 1982, Robert made his first American appearance at Gallery One. At that time, he was new to the U.S. art market...and yet he attracted crowds worthy of a rock star. His loyalty to Gallery One and Gallery One collectors is notable and is matched by our fondness and respect for him, his work and his contributions to conservation.

Let's begin with showing you how a few well-chosen pieces of framed art can transform an ordinary room into a space filled with personality and style.

You'll learn how personalizing your home or work space with custom framing can express your personality and add to your enjoyment of your surroundings. You'll easily note that others may purchase the same sofa, tables and lamps that
you have, but it is highly unlikely that anyone will ever have the exact same
custom framing as you.

Regardless of what you choose to frame for your home, whether it is a
favorite piece of fine art, a mirror, an object inherited from an ancestor or
your child's first finger painting - it will add interest to your space. These rooms, with and without framed art, demonstrate what a big
impact well-framed items can have.

Take a look and call, email or stop with your questions, comments and
suggestions. Show off your style with or without the help of our art
consultants and Certified Picture Framers. We're waiting to hear from you....!

<georss:box>41.618710300000004 -81.418516 41.7136043 -81.260588</georss:box>

Gallery Giclées Staff in the News

Gallery Giclées, sister company to Gallery One, has been producing superior giclée canvases for a growing base of A-list artists since 2010. Those artists now include Carl Brenders, Alan Brown, Anthony Cook, Jim Daly, Michael Dumas, Dean Morrissey and David Utz. But we won’t rest on our laurels. Keep watching gallerygiclees.com for more overtopping artists soon to be announced!

Behind every outstanding giclée is an equally outstanding team of professionals dedicated to the production of stunning canvas giclées that capture the original images of our accomplished artists.

Our goals are twofold:
        1. exceeding the high expectations of our artists, and
        2. exceeding the high expectations of our collectors.

Our work begins with a team effort to select unique and powerful artists. Once we have committed ourselves to an artist (and the artist has committed themselves to Gallery Giclées), Diana Weber Gardner, creative director, takes over. Working in conjunction with Gallery Giclée owners, Norah Lynne and Alan Brown, images are selected and sizes are determined. Once proofed, images are OK'd by the team, and then sent to the respective artists for critiques.

Diana Weber Gardner

Creative Director Diana Weber Gardner looks upon her Gallery Giclée position as a homecoming. An accomplished artist in her own right, Diana began her association with the Browns over 30 years ago as a college student. Today, her trained eye and close collaboration with each artist allow her to fine tune each image until the giclées on canvas have the vibrancy and detail of the original.

But Diana also has a lengthy association with her community. In 1975 as teenagers, she and husband Tim Gardner worked with ChagrinArts to produce a mural on a building at 107 Water St., Chardon, OH. In the years that followed, the mural became a renowned local landmark. And even as it faded with time, it is still a favorite among residents and travelers.

Now, as part of Chardon’s Bicentennial Celebration, Diana has been asked to lead a group of volunteers to restore the image to its former brilliance. Diana says, “It’s heartwarming to learn from town residents about how much the mural has been enjoyed all these years. I am overwhelmed by the support of both city leaders and residents. In preparing for the project, I have learned how excited they are to know that it will be restored.” Read more about it here.

Linda D'Agostino-Clinger

With the production side of things in such capable hands, it is essential that the marketing end is just as capably managed. Linda D’Agostino-Clinger fills this position perfectly. Her background in publishing and her close association with so many artists, has proven to be an invaluable asset when making initial contact with artists or assisting various galleries. Linda’s warm, charming personality comes across the phone lines as she speaks with galleries and designers all over the country. If you are a gallery or an interior designer, you can purchase directly from Gallery Giclées. And if you are a private purchaser, just contact Gallery One or any authorized Gallery Giclées dealer. (Linda can be reached at 440.255.1200 or 800.621.1141 or by email.)

Assisting Norah Lynne, Alan, Diana and Linda is a team that includes Peggy Snyder in production and shipping, Joanne Kifer in accounting and Janice Kaluza, the team's web guru. Together, the team boasts that they are producing and distributing the best selection of affordable art on the planet. Don’t you agree?

Prepub in Paradise Prices

On Saturday, April 14, William S. Phillips and his lovely wife, Kristi,
returned to Gallery One in Mentor. Bill’s background as a firefighter and in
the Air Force gave him lots of common ground with his collectors who share the
same experiences. They’d gather at the signing table to meet him and get lost
in long conversations. In his lecture, Bill spoke about his career as well as
the Doolittle Raiders’ reunion he was en-route to at Dayton’s Wright Patterson
Air Force Museum. See more images of the show on our site and watch the short
clip from his lecture on the video bar at right.

As one of the world’s top aviation artists, William S. Phillips was
commissioned by the Royal Jordanian Air Force to developed 16 major paintings,
many of which now hang in the Royal Jordanian Air Force Museum in Amman. The
Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum presented a one-man show
of Phillips' work. He was chosen to be a U.S. Navy combat artist and was awarded
the Navy's Meritorious Public Service Award and the Air Force Sergeants
Association's Americanism Medal. In 2005, the USPS released his pane of 37 cent
stamps - American Advances in Aviation. Another dimension to Bill’s talents lies
in his nostalgic landscape scenes. He even created his own idyllic community,
Phillips Bay, where picturesque and romantic images abound. In 2004, he was
selected as Artist in Residence at the Grand Canyon’s North Rim — another
indication of his versatility. Three of Phillips' works were chosen as part of
the top 100 in Art for the Parks, and one painting received the Art History
Award from the National Park Foundation. Two coffee table books of his works
have been published.

We look forward to Bill and Kristi’s next visit. Until then, visit

Dumas is characterized by masterful drawing and an unusual sensitivity to the
subtleties of light, detail, form, color and composition. His is a unique style
that is instantly recognizable.

Dumas is attracted
to subjects that express the simple harmony of the everyday. His extraordinary
paintings of typical sights, such as common sparrows, celebrate how exquisite
the ordinary truly is. Subjects also include rural themes and people, revealing
an intimate connection based on direct experience. “There is something precious
and ultimately profound in the simplest act of being,” he said.

Dumas’s familiarity
with the wilderness and its creatures has been reflected in his art ever since
childhood, when, day after day, he would draw the chickens his aunt and uncle
kept next door. Even then, he was demonstrating his intense desire to know
things in a deeper sense by drawing them, aware that his drawings were a measure
of how well he understood the world around him.

“There are
innumerable things one can choose to paint,” said Dumas, whose preferred medium
is oil. “But the underlying purpose of creating has to do with conveying
something about why those objects inspire attention in the first place. The
greater the connection, the more insightful the work will be, the more truth it
will reveal, not just about the thing painted, but about the artist as
well.”

Michael is best known to Gallery One collectors through his participation in
our annual Masterworks in Miniature show where he is a four-time winner of our
Master Palette Award. His originals are always much anticipated and well
received as are these very affordable hand signed giclées. Read more about them by
