30% TAX CREDIT TO INCLUDE COMMERCIAL SWIMMING POOLS-WHY NOT RESIDENTIAL?

I recently read an article in Cleantechnica.com by Susan Kraemer about the tax credits that were issued from the American recovery Act using solar to heat water. In here article she talks about how much greenhouse gas we could reduce if "Senator Feinstein’s measure would extend the 30% solar tax credit which is set to expire in 2010, and expand it to include solar thermal for commercial and community swimming pools". Great idea I must say but why stop there, why not include residential swimming pools two. Is there anything different from a commercial or public pool than the pool you or I have in our back yard.....YES actually there is. there are two things different. The first thing being that when was the last time you (pool owner) went to a Motel- Amusement Park- or any Public Swimming Pool and when you got in the water found that there pool was warmer than yours at home??? Probably never. I myself do not remember the last time that I was at a commercial pool and it was warmer than a backyard pool. The second thing that I find to be rather ridiculous is that in another article that I read by Susan Kraemer she writes "Municipal pools are typically covered at night to keep the heat in. Home hot tubs are the same. But apartment complexes simply leave the whole thing exposed to the chilly night air. Even when the cost of keeping pools and hot tubs warm go to well over half the energy costs of the entire complex, the marketing people simply won’t allow the pool to be covered at night." So because we home owners use different products two keep our heat in our pools at night so that our heat bill does not sky rocket we shouldn't be eligible for a solar tax credit if we switched to solar heating of our swimming pools????? That is the most idiotic thing that i have ever heard and it may actually be voted into law.
So know is the time voice your opinion to your local government. E-mail them, write them, phone them, or stop into there office and let them know that you as a homeowner want this law passed, but you also want this law extended to the home owner who has the swimming pool in there backyard. We desreve it just as much as any business man who owns a commercial pool.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING A USED HOT TUB/SPA

With the Michigan unemployment rate at 15% Most people are having a hard time going out and spending thousands upon thousands of dollars on a new hot tub/spa these days. I find more and more people looking for bargains on web sights like craigs list and eBay. I even have made purchases off these sights in order to save a buck or two. Now the downfall to this savings is that almost everything that you purchase comes as is. No warranty, no guarantee. Just two people exchanging money and away you go never to see this person again. I recently was in the market for a car that would get me through the winter. It didn't have to be nothing two special but at the same time nothing to pathetic either. After looking for over a week on the infamous craigs list I finally found what I thought was a good deal. I called the gentleman up got his address and went over for a test drive. The cae looked descent, and drove even better than it looked. Add the story behind the car from the guy and the girl that actually drove it and it was a deal that was to good to be true. I had the car for less than two weeks and blew up the motor and the transmission while driving down the highway. I was out $1400 and there was nothing I could do. I signed a bill of sale stating the car was sold as is. The pretty girls story cost me $1400.
The moral to the story is just be very careful. If you are purchasing a used hot tub from someone that you do not know.
A couple things to look for are:
1. Make sure the tub holds water. If they wont fill it with water for you then DO NOT BUY IT!!!
2. Make sure the electrical parts run. A lot of times these tubes are sitting in the front yard with FOR SALE signs on them. Ask the owner to hook it back up so you can see it run . If they wont then again DO NOT BUY IT!!!
3. Are all the headrests, cushions, and jets there.
4. Does the tub come with any kind of a written warranty
If all else fails....

Then we bring back to our showroom fill with water and replace any parts that do not work, paint or stain the cabinets, and make them look real nice again. All of our spas come with a 30 to 90 day warranty. Something you wont get from a someone selling there spa out of there backyard.

The main thing is just be careful. Sometimes you can get a Hell of a deal on-line from a backyard seller, then theres the ones that know there selling you a piece of crap but do not care and want to make alot of money of from it and make it your problem.
