Changes to the Network

Things may look a bit different here at the network. No more buttons and genres. Why you may ask? Well, glad you asked. :0)

One reason is because of my time. I don't have much of it. (Does anybody?!?) Each time I would add a blog to the network it would require 15-30 minutes of my time. That is just the initial blog addition. Anytime a blog changes a name, address, etc. that would require even more time. As the network continued to grow, I found I couldn't keep up.

Another reason is that it is duplication. (Adding a blog to two or more genres is duplicating work!) I'm sorry if this is a big disappointment for anyone! But I have enough work without creating it or duplicating it! LOL

Weighing the traffic, traffic sources & patterns to time spent on the network, I realized the network wasn't being used and utilized to it's full potential. I had to weigh this with my time.

I considered getting 'rid' of this network site, and simply keeping the ring. However, my heart couldn't do it. So I thought "what can I do that could keep the network 'fresh' but require less work and time on my part?"

That is how and why I came up with this compromise. When a new blog joins the network I will grab their blog's RSS feed, and add that to the scrolling sidebar. I will also add them to a post to feature the new addition. This will be posted for an unspecified amount of time, for a minimum of a week. Bottom line...This will save me a lot of work, and less headache trying to keep everyone's blogs organized in several different ways.

I hope you understand, and I would LOVE for the network to take off, and be utilized to it's full potential.

How to Keep Up With A Large Number of Blogs

In reference to the amount of blogs on the network, I've had bloggers say to me, "I can't keep up with ___ blogs." (Insert large number). Today, I want to let you in on my 'networking' secret.

You can keep up with a large number of blogs!

In the left hand side-bar I placed a scrolling reader. This lists the most recent postings of blogs in the Assembly of God Blogs network. Many of you may have previously accessed this handy-dandy feature.

So, what is the secret?!?

I think many of you know that often times bloggers don't post everyday. Some do, but most don't. Here is how to keep up with a large number of blogs...

Come here to the network site each day, when you have time to read blogs. Check out the scrolling updates along the left. When you scroll over the list, it will stop. Click on a post and it should open in a new window. Go back to the window with the network site, click on the next new post you're interested in reading. Keep doing this until you get all the posts you wish to read in new windows.

Come back the next day/time and go through the scrolling list until you reach the posts you've read last. Depending on how frequently you visit, it could be a couple posts or more.

Why waste time going to blogs that don't have a new post? This way you read only new posts, and can easily keep up with 100+ blogs!

Most bloggers read other blogs daily. Why not make the network part of your daily routine, and you too can be a successful networker!

The Bash Back Mount Hope Thing

On Sunday November 9, a group calling themselves Bash Back disrupted services at Mount Hope Church in Lansing. Catholic Online reported what happened on their online edition.

Reports filed with the Eaton County Sheriff’s office indicate that other demonstrators had staged a further action intended to disrupt the Sunday Worship at Mount Hope. Dressed in clothing which would not have indicated their intention, they entered into the sanctuary and were seated with the community. Then, in an orchestrated manner, they left their seats, pulled fire alarms, distributed anti-Christian literature and stormed the Pastor’s pulpit waving a rainbow colored flag and shouting “It’s Okay To Be Gay! Bash Back”.

In response to the anarchist group, leaders of the church issued the following statement:

"The leadership of Mount Hope Church does not attempt to identify the church as antihomosexual, anti-choice, or right wing. The church does take the Bible at face value and believes what the Bible says to be the truth. According to the Bible, Mount Hope Church believes homosexuality to be a sin, just as fornication, stealing, drunkenness, and lying are sins. No sin greater than the next. Mount Hope Church strives to follow Jesus’ example of loving the sinner but not the sin while helping people change their lives for God’s glory and their improved quality of life. Mount Hope Church also recognizes that to each person God grants freewill."

It should be noted that homosexuality isn’t the issue. Bash Back is an anarchist group not a homosexual rights advocacy group. According to their web-site, they advocate “a radical trans/queer/anarcha-feminist group” committed to “fight for liberation while rejecting all forms of state power.” In essence, they seek to end all government ,societal and religious influence over people. Homosexual rights advocates use the legal processes such as ballot proposals and lawsuits to advance their cause. Bash Back by virtue of promoting anarchy is in fact an enemy of the homosexual rights cause. At issue is how the church must respond to those who persecute it they hate its influence on people.

Jesus taught Christians to love those who persecute them. The parishioners of Mount Hope Church reportedly responded with grace toward the protesters. They deserve our respect for that. The statement released by their leadership did well to point out that they are not opposed to anyone, but in favor of obeying the teachings of the Bible. My only concern is that they chose to address the issue of homosexuality as a sin rather than address the actual issue at stake, the influence of the church on society.

The loyalty of the church belongs to our Lord Jesus Christ. That loyalty goes beyond an allegiance to any human government. However, the church also remains loyal to governments because their authority to organize and protect people comes from God. Although the church must never attempt to take authority over or to control governments, the church cannot deny that people who follow Jesus Christ will influence their governments. Therefore, our message to anarchists must be, “we pledge our allegiance to Jesus Christ and to those to whom He has given authority over people". Our prayer is that all people will be loyal to Jesus Christ and be obedient to the governing authorities. Our message to all who oppose our Lord is “Repent and be saved, reject Christ and be damned.” Rebellion should bring no other response from God’s people.

Mount Hope, by virtue of their effectiveness as a ministry, will continue to have an influence over Lansing. Many churches will have a similar effect in their communities. Churches need to anticipate persecution and prepare to rise up in the face of it. The message to those who are lost must always be “Jesus loves you, he died for you, and he saves you.” But when people rise up with the intent to harm the church because of its godly influence, the message must be, “Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand.”

Why Believe In God?

This sure is a fine way to say, "Merry Christmas!" (Yes, I am being sarcastic.) Christmas will be here in 42 days (FYI - I'm almost done with my Christmas shopping, how about you?) and I cannot recall a better time for us, as Christians, to proclaim Jesus as the reason for the season. Never assume that people know why we celebrate Christmas. Always be prepared share the heart of Christmas in word and in deed.

This season I am going to be promoting a few ideas for this Christmas season.
- Say "Merry Christmas!" It is a statement of faith.
- Make your gifts count this season. In a time when people are struggling to make ends meet, help with one of those ends. Pay on a utility bill or replace a bald tire on their car. Believe me, they are not going to miss that, "whatever you were going to get them that would just end up in a garage sale in 6 months" item.
- You could purchase an extra box from angel food and give it to them.
- De-stress the holidays. Make it more about people than the process.

Amazing live update from Buru Buru!

This morning was nothing short of amazing at Buru Buru AG! God changed up all our plans as He's so good at doing! I was supposed to preach the morning service at Buru Buru and then quickly head to the orphanage in Limuru for the dedication. However things changed. The Spirit of God fell so mightily in the first service at Buru Buru and we had such a breakthrough that the pastor asked me to stay to preach for the next service! I was not scheduled to do that since we were going the orphanage. Understanding what God was doing and wanting it to continue in the church this morning Dr. Kuert said he would be glad to release me to the church for the day and have them take care of Sue and I and bring us home to the missionary compound when all of the ministry was done at the church.

What a time we had!!! I had 45 minutes to preach in the first service because we needed to end right on time so that the second service people could come in. I gave the service back over to the pastor to conclude however it kept moving in such a great way that the pastor handed me the microphone and said, "please keep going." The presence of God came in such a great way and I have to confess I hardly knew what to do or how to even conclude such a thing standing there just watching what the Lord was doing, but the second service did need to start . Finally I somehow brought it to a conclusion and gave it back to the pastor and went down to seat thinking I was leaving in the few moments to travel to Limuru, however plans quickly changed that I was staying over. Pastor Tembu said, "Church, our guest is staying to preach the second service. I encourage everyone to just stay and hear it again and if there was absolutely anything you did not somehow get from God in this first service, you need to stay and let him finish his work in this next service!!"

We had the second service....again a phenomenal response however it was it's own unique move from the first service. At the conclusion one of the deacons rushed over and said, "Pastor Deanna, the Lord has moved so mightily this morning...I am going to talk to our pastor and suggest you come here for a 3-day city wide crusade." At that very moment, Pastor Jane Tembu (the co-pastor) ran over and said, "Pastor Deanna, after this morning's service my immediate thought is that we want you to come for a 3-day crusade!" She and deacon both looked at each amazed in realizing that both had thought and said that without talking to each other about it! Meanwhile when they said this I was standing next to Sue and said, "I am so excited I want to scream right now but I have to save my voice..." (GRIN)

We went up to the pastor's office afterwards and some women in the church had brought in some food to feed us since we missed lunch with the Kuerts, and had been at the church all day and afternoon. We sat in the office with the lead pastors and ate a traditional Kenyan meal. Some of the staff served us. There are 8 pastors on staff. In between the two services the staff also served the lead Pastors and Sue and myself tea, and traditional kenyan breakfast pastries . These are such amazingly loving and hospitable people.

We are all so excited about what God did this morning and what He wants to do in the future. They are also still wanting Larry and I to come and do the marriage conference for their pastors as well. So much to do and only one lifetime!

Being back in this city and in this place today only strengthens my bond and love for the African people and passion to do all that I can to help them. If I had to leave Kenya today I could already say that God has done an amazing breakthrough!!! Today was worth it in and of itself. But I'm so glad the best is yet to come...we still have the women's conference. Please be in prayer, as I am believing for even greater breakthroughs from our miracle working God. Sue is absolutely amazed at this place and she has fallen in love with the African people just like I knew she would. I told her I'll be there to put my arm around her and let her cry as long as she needs to when it comes time to leave them and in the days when she is longing for the fervency that we have experienced in this place, in America. At this moment I do not have photos of the service as we are back at the compound but Dr. Kuert is not and he did all the photography this morning at the service.

Tomorrow morning I speak to their leaders at 10 AM. That's 2 am EST. Be in prayer for a great refreshing for these wonderful servants of God.

So Where Does the Network Go From Here?

As the network administrator, to honestly answer that question I'd say "I don't know!".

If you've been in the Assembly of God Blogs network for longer than a couple of months, you may recall the B.O.W. Award. (Blog of the Week). A blog was nominated from a previous B.O.W. Award recepient, and the featured blogger would answered some questions, and later featured in this spot each Monday.

Then, elections and politics came upon us, and filled this spot. We learned about Sarah Palin being a fellow believer who attends an Assembly of God church. We prayed everyday for 31 days for the upcoming election. We learned from our General Superintendent how we should react towards the Presidential election.

But, now what? Where do we go from here?

I know that if fresh content is not put on the network blog, it can and will quickly die. That cannot happen! The B.O.W. Award became very time consuming, and felt as if I was constantly pulling to make it happen each week. I really don't feel that is to be picked up again, atleast by me. Now, if YOU would want to do the weekly BOW Award, let me know! I'd be glad to consider adding YOU to this volunteer ministry! (Seriously! I could use the help!)

Elections and politics are over. So, that's not an option. However, I did enjoy the daily prayer focus. I don't believe this is something I could do well. BUT, if YOU feel this is something you could do (submit prayer focuses for the network) PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE contact me! The power in the network, of over 100 blogs, praying together... WOW! That would be awesome!

One other idea I had is to ask permission to use your outstanding blog posts. I figured while I'm reading blogs in the network, if a post stands out and I feel it is something that could benefit the entire network, I'd request your permission to place it here. (Or you can submit your posts, too!)

POST-ELECTION STATEMENT

The election, at long last, is over.

As fellow believers, we offer to our new leaders the pledge of our prayers and our commitment to be good citizens in this wonderful land that the Lord has privileged us to live in.

In this moment as I talk with you, I do not know the results of the election because this was recorded prior to the election. I wanted to bring these comments to you without knowing who won – because our responsibilities as Christians transcend politics – and we must be who we are regardless
of who wins.

The first century Christians lived in a time far different than ours. The government was a repressive dictatorship. Life was cheap. Slavery was practiced. Infanticide was common. Romans chapter one outlines the steep and deep degradation morally and ethically in the prevailing culture.

Christians then, unlike us, did not have the right to vote. In fact, throughout the first 200 plus years of the Church, Christians were a persecuted minority.

Yet, those early Christians turned the world upside down and right side up. How did they do it? Through the ballot box? No. Through electing leaders that were preferential to their point of view? No.

They changed the world by being what Jesus called them to be – salt and light.

I must confess that during these past long months of electioneering, I let the externals of politics take too much of my time and interest. Perhaps you did as well. It’s easy to get so overly absorbed in politics that we lose sight of the fact that our citizenship is really in heaven – that governments, presidents, senators, and political leaders come and go – but the kingdom of God lasts
forever.

I am not saying that we should not be involved, as citizens, in political issues; but I think it is vital that we keep perspective. Our focus should be more on winning people to Jesus than winning elections. We need to be more concerned about the progress of the Gospel than the progress of a political party.

I want to call you to refocus on the health of the church – that the real answers to eternal issues lie not in the government – but in a revitalized body of believers that transforms neighborhoods and communities through our witness in word and deed.

The apostles told the first century Christians five things.

1. God is the sovereign Lord over human history and government.

In Romans 13, Paul wrote: Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for
there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been
established by God.

This admonition applies to any Christian living in any country at any time period – whether in
China, Uganda, Cuba, Russia, India, Nigeria, or the United States.

But, what does it mean that the authorities that exist have been established by God? Exactly
what you think it says. God raises up nations and leaders.

The results of this election did not catch God by surprise. Although we voted, nothing happens
without God’s permissive will. He allows us to choose good or evil and, in a democracy, the
government He gives us is the one we choose. Sometimes our vote results in leaders who fail us and
they become a means of God’s judgment; other times leaders follow after God’s heart and they
become a means of God’s blessing.

Daniel said to the unrighteous world ruler, Nebuchadnezzar: the Most High is sovereign over
the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone he wishes and sets over them the lowliest of men
(Daniel 4:17). To the unrighteous ruler, Pilate, governor of Judea, Jesus said: You would have no
power over me if it were not given to you from above (John 19:11).

So, as we come out of this election as Christians, we must catch our breath and pause. We
must put on our Biblical glasses and see Jesus as the Lord of human history. If the early Christians
could flourish under a persecuting totalitarian government, then in America we Christians have even
more reason to flourish because of the democratic system that gives us the freedom of speech,
assembly, and worship.

2. The second advice the apostles gave was that government is designed to restrain and punish those who do evil.

Read Romans 13:3-4 or 1 Peter 2:13-17. In fact, Paul calls human government God’s servant
to do good by bringing punishment on the wrongdoer. The word he employs for servant is the same
word that elsewhere is translated as deacon. Those in civil government are meant to be God’s
deacons. They are to approve what is right, and disapprove what is wrong; and thereby serve the
cause of justice. Of course, if they fail in their task then the society and culture that they represent
crumbles. Paul’s view was that the Roman dictatorship, as bad as it was, was preferable to anarchy.
When there is no government, everyone does what is right in his or her own eyes.

If you don’t believe that, then remove government totally from your community for just seven
days – all kinds of mayhem to person and property would occur.

3. None of us necessarily like the third counsel given to early Christians – but, if you look in
Romans 13:6-7 you’ll find it: if you owe taxes, pay taxes! Need I say more? Without taxes, the government cannot provide the duty it owes citizens to keep them safe from harm.

4. That brings us to the fourth counsel the apostles gave to Christians living under any
desirable or undesirable government – pray! Paul writes this to his younger colleague, Timothy: I
urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone –
the kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and
holiness (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

So let’s do what Paul asks. Let’s offer to God both intercession and thanksgiving for those
elected to office. Why? Not because our candidate lost or won – but because, the Lord hears our
prayers and it’s His desire that we have the kind of governmental climate which permits us to flourish
as the followers of Christ. Look at what Paul says in the next verses from 1 Timothy 2 (verses 3 and
4): This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a
knowledge of the truth. In other words, a government that provides peace for Christians makes for an
environment in which the church can multiply.

The apostle Paul gave the counsel to pray in the face of a looming threat of persecution. He
asked the church to pray that the oppressive and persecuting hand of the government would be
stayed. And, early Christians kept praying for that even in the midst of fierce opposition and
martyrdoms.

We may be inching into a day in America when Christians no longer have the favored status
they have enjoyed. Increasingly, the secular culture seeks to marginalize followers of Jesus, hold
them up to caricature, and portray them in the most unfair manner possible. There may come a day
in America when believers face outright persecution. So, we must continue to pray that the Lord will
help America to preserve its freedoms; and that, resulting from our freedoms, we may continue to see
Christ’s kingdom grow in America; and, that from our land will come a powerful awakening that results
in world-wide revival.

5. We are to show respect for those who hold office – whether executive, judicial, or legislative; whether national, state, or local; whether Republican, Democrat, Independent, or other
parties. The New Testament explicitly tells us to do that. Hear the Apostle Paul: Give everyone what
you owe him . . . if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor (Romans 13:7). Hear the Apostle Peter
say the same thing: Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God,
honor the king (1 Peter 2:17).

Obviously, in America we do not have a king. But, we have a president and we have a
governmental system that has three branches nationally – and these three branches also form state
and local governments. We are to honor those who hold positions of authority.

As Christians, we must set the example for being respectful to those in office – whether
executive, judicial, or legislative.

The recent campaign at all levels and all parties was often filled with bitter rancor, distortions,
smears and lies. That must not be a part of Christian’s behavior. We must not lose our principles
when fighting for principle.

As believers, we can help set a better tone for the national discussion. We can hold to our
views without being unkind, without rancorous voices, without becoming filled with anger or hatred
toward those with opposing views.

Our ultimate goal as Christians is not to win an election, but to win people to Jesus. We will
only win those whom we clearly love, and for whom we show love.

Now that the campaigns are over, let the real campaign begin. Let’s win America for Jesus!
Let’s pray that the Lord will send to America a Great Spiritual Awakening – that from sea to shining
sea, the glory of the Lord will break forth in the lives of our fellow citizens. May God bless America as
America blesses God!

There are nine blogs in queue, and several blogs in the "failed sites" at RingSurf, awaiting to become a part of the network. I have told several blog owners that they would be added today (Monday). Something important has come up, and has taken a priority. Understanding and patience during this time is requested. Hopefully you will know and have seen the importance of this ministry to me. With that said, I trust you know that it would only be something of greater importance that would keep me from this ministry. I will do what I can when I can, and as soon as the Lord enables.
