I have been contacted frequently since competitive bidding for durable medical devices has started and wanted to share this info as a resource, just in case no one was able to find it. Here is a bit of Info at least for the Syracuse area:

Communication Hope through Assistive Technology (CHAT)

Overview

Mission

Assist youth with disabilities who communicate using technology to open their voices to the world
CHAT Camp will provide an atmosphere where augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) users interact with each other. The camp will combine opportunities for peer modeling and interactive fun as CHAT campers explore and bring awareness about how people communicate in different ways.
CHAT Central, a first-of-its-kind website, will allow AAC users to communicate virtually, as well as with parents, friends, and professionals.

The Inspiration

Imagine you are a young person, but you cannot communicate through speech. At school, you do not have the technological and other supports necessary to allow you to interact with the world around you. You have not been offered a way to interact with your teachers, friends and family.
For Graham Tresness, a young man with cerebral palsy, speech may not be possible, but imagination, creativity and the ability to learn are boundless. Graham uses eye gaze technology to communicate. He is one example of a young person with a disability who, through courage, perseverance and devoted family and friends, seeks to live a full and productive life.
Graham is the inspiration behind CHAT! His parents, Barb and Greg, generously contributed $100,000 to the Burton Blatt Institute (BBI) at Syracuse University to launch CHAT. The program is to assist youth with disabilities that affect their verbal communication to open their voices to the world. The couple worked for more than a decade to find a way for their son to communicate, and they tirelessly advocate for him and other children with disabilities
“It was a challenge to get to where we are today and we still have a long way to go,” said Barb and Greg. “We traveled far and wide to find resources, and we hope our journey will make it easier for other families in our community. With CHAT at BBI, the nonverbal community will benefit tremendously.”

A Time to Give

Project Adapt, the library that I coordinate, relies greatly on donations of equipment, which I loan out (for free!) to individuals, families, therapists, teachers and others. Project Adapt serves approximately 3,000 people across six counties in New York. When many pieces of equipment are loaned out, we must put people on waiting lists for needed pieces. Currently, we are seeing an increased need for durable medical equipment for Early Intervention and school-aged kids, specifically standers, gait trainers, walkers and adapted seating. Please consider donating to the library this type of equipment or anything related to Assistive Technology. The value of your donation is multiplied each time a new person is able to borrow the equipment. Please follow the link to the library to get involved. Thanks!

June is here! and that means school is once again soon to close for the Summer. If you have borrowed equipment for your student or students for the school session it is time to return them to the TRAID/Project Adapt Library. equipment can be dropped here at the Library (behind the New ENABLE main building) or at the main entrance. The main entrance is open from 8am-6:00p and at the A.T. building where the library is located between 10-4pm. Thanks and hope every one has a great summer. If per chance anyone is participating in summer school, please return those items anyway and we will re-assign the out.

This software called Teachtown is a great no nonsense way to functionally develop critical skills for toddlers, preschoolers, and grades k-1. Developed by a father with a kiddo on the spectrum, and some good financial backers Via the animation creator of Rugrats. Have look and try the Demo: One for Home activities and one for School.

Stumbled across this in my Google Reader, must have missed the launch. I originally was searching for Blind and Low Vision products for a grant. As I often do the multiple tabs on FireFox where all open, and I was looking at this video; I have the Ablenet catalog open for more ideas. Low and behold I see a new product called Blue2! hmmmm $148.00??
