I thought I would let you know that the Guild of Professional Wedding Services is holding it's annual wedding fayre (fair) at the beautiful and stunning Old Down Manor, Tockington, Bristol, BS32 4PG.

The fayre is on Sunday 19th of February 2012, the exhibition starts at 11am and finishes at 3pm.

A photography review of 2011 - by Aston Hue Photography - Part 1

2011 has been a very busy year for Aston Hue Photography. We have had lots of fun working with some really lovely bride and groom’s, we have also been very fortunate to photograph at some very popular and beautiful wedding venues including St Audries Park, Coombe Lodge, Maunsel House, Tortworth Court, Bristol Zoo, Kingscote Barn, Eastwood Park and Cadbury House.

2011's summer; the weather has been, shall we say, changeable, sunshine one minute and rain the next but this hasn’t stopped the bride and groom and their guests having a fantastic day and it certainly hasn’t stopped us capturing some really stunning shots.

For all the years I have been photographing I thought I had heard some very humorous speeches, but one particular wedding in August, the groom’s speech was “side splitting” his delivery was perfect and the 120 guests must have thought they were in a comedy club.

Another wedding was based in a field in Earlswood, Literally a field, where the Bride had pre-warned guests, stating that wellington boots, rain coats and umbrellas should be brought, just in case. Fortunately they weren’t required!!

The good news for Aston Hue Photography is 2012 looks even busier!!!

I love photographing weddings at Christmas!

Donna and Travis's wedding ceremony was held at the Carmel Bible College, Brislington. There were over 200 guests that attended their ceremony, the Pastor was very understanding regarding the photograhy and allowed me to capture the event in almost any place. Even though I had a free license to move around, I am always very discrete, I don't like to get to close to the bride and groom, so I use a mixture of lens lengths, 24mm-70mm and 100mm-400mm, I also don't use any flash photography. This allows me to capture the ceremony without intrusion.
After the ceremony we decidied to capture some photographs on the Bristol to Bath cycle path, we used the old Mangotsfield railway ruins. This allowed for some different and dramatic shots with the main wedding party, as you can see from the shots below.
We then travelled onto the Kendleshire Golf Club.
I really enjoyed photographing Donna and Travis's wedding, I was made to feel very welcome by their family and friends.

Maunsel House wedding photography

The Wedding of Suzy and Andrew.
8th October 2011.

This is the first time we have photographed at Maunsel House and I have to say we think it is spectacular. This beautiful home is packed full of interesting furniture and antiques. It has a really warm, cosy and inviting feel and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The grounds of the House are stunning and full of beautiful birds including doves and peacocks, who just stroll around the grounds.
I can totally understand why Suzy and Andrew chose this beautiful venue to hold their reception. The weather was extremely mild for October which gave us plenty of opportunity to photograph the bride and groom and guests outside.

Alveston House wedding photography

The Wedding of Sarah and Kevin.
29th October 2011.

Sarah and Kevin tied the knot in Sri Lanka. They then chose to have an evening wedding reception at the Alveston House Hotel on 29th October 2011. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t as good as their actual wedding day, but we still managed to get some lovely shots of the bride and groom celebrating their marriage with their family and friends.

Tortworth Court wedding photography

The wedding of Ben and Danielle.
7th of October 2011.

Danielle and Ben chose the stunning venue of Tortworth Court to hold their wedding ceremony and reception. It was an unusually bright and fairly warm October day. Danielle and her bridesmaids got ready in her mums home and then travelled to Tortworth Court in one of the beautiful, Englands Finest Wedding Cars.
It was a pleasure for Kate and I to be part of Danielle and Ben's wedding day. Having worked with Ben in the past on a number of occasions, Ben is a videographer (A perfect memory), we felt privilege to be asked to capture their special day.
As Ben is in the wedding industry, the day went perfectly as he planned, including the baileys fountain (a surprise for Danielle).
Congratulations Mr and Mrs Pope.

St Georges wedding photography

The wedding of Kate and Bradley.
27th of August 2011.

Kate and Bradley's wedding ceremony was held at St Marys church in Clevedon, this church is very important to the family as Kate's parents were also married there!
Kate and her father travelled to the church in a bright yellow VW camper van which was beautifully restored.
Yet again the English weather didn't surprise us as it started to rain directly after the ceremony, fortunately it cleared not long afterwards and didn't spoil the relaxed and fun atmosphere.
Kate and Bradley travelled to the Clifton Suspension bridge in the yellow VW camper van for a pre reception wedding shoot. This allowed us to capture some stunning images of the camper van, bridge and of course the bride and groom.
Kate and Bradley's reception was held at the impressive St Georges, this venue is perfect for a wedding. From a photographers perspective you have plenty of opportunity to capture natural, contemporary and traditional shots inside and outside of the building.

It was a real pleasure to photograph Kate and Bradley's wedding, I wish them all the very best for the future.

The Aztec Hotel wedding photography

The wedding of Kerrie and Thomas.
3rd of September 2011.

Kerrie and Thomas were married at St John's church, Keynsham. Then moved on to the very popular Aztec Hotel and Spa. Before their arrival at the Hotel we decided to capture a few photographs at the lake in the Aztec West complex.

There was also an opportunity to capture a few different types of shots with the use of some of the office builds in the area.

Kerrie and Thomas were great to work with on the day, so relaxed and friendly.

Jennifer and John were married at The Dark Barn in Gloucester, Jennifer and John were both a bit nervous on the day, but after the ceremony they relaxed and the day flowed perfectly. I hope they had a fantastic day and a great honeymoon.

Fields at Earlswood wedding photography

The wedding of Alex and Dave.
13th of August 2011.

Alex and Dave decided to have their perfect wedding in a field at Earlswood, Chepstow. Alex had pre warned the 120 guests that wellington boots, jackets and umbrella's may be required as the marriage ceremony was being held outside, fortunately none of the above was required!!!
Their wedding breakfast was an incredible hog roast, with drinks being cooled in a bath ice bucket, literally a bath.
A marque was provided for the guests, which was a perfect fit for such a rural wedding.
Dave's speech was one of the best I have ever heard, and I have listened to quite a few, he is a born entertainer.

Alex and Dave have moved to Australia for a year, good luck to you both and the start of your new life together in Australia.

Cameley Lodge wedding photography

The wedding of Kayleigh and Thomas.

The days photography started with Kayleigh's preparations at her parents house, where the build up to the ceremony was very relaxed.
We then travelled onto Cameley Lodge where the ceremony and reception were being held. The staff at Cameley Lodge were very helpful and organised making the day flow for Kayleigh and Thomas.
We continued photographing through to their evening reception, capturing the whole of their special day as they requested. As you can see from the photographs below they will have some amazing memories.

The Park Hotel wedding photography

The wedding of Jenny and Gary.

I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Jenny and Gary at the Park Hotel, falfield.
They displayed such a close friendship and that was evident when Jenny and Gary decided to break tradition and walk up the aisle together before their marriage ceremony, they also both stood together to carry out a combined bride and groom speech.
It is such an honour and privilege to be requested to photograph a couple's special day, being there to capture their emotions as the wedding unfolds is a real pleasure.

American and German Second world war vehicles photo shoot

I was asked to photograph two 2nd world war classic American and German army vehicles. Both vehicles have been fully restored and are in superb condition. I have been supplied a detailed list of information on the American jeep, which I have listed below. When I receive information on the German vehicle I will update this blog.

Production 363,000 plus 240,000 from Ford
Engine 4-cyl. side valves, 134 cu in (2.2 L) (2199 cc), 60 hp (45 kW).
Transmission 3-speed + reverse, 2wd or 4WD
Wheelbase 80 inches (203 cm)
Length 131 inches (333 cm)
Width 62 inches (157.5 cm)
Height 72 inches (183 cm) with top up, reducible to 52 inches (132 cm)
Kerb weight 2,293 lb(1040 kg)

This particular jeep was built on the 12th Nov 1942 and was saved as a wreck from a farm nr. Reading, Berks. approx 6 years ago.
The restoration was a nut and bolt, ground up effort and took around 4 years to complete.

The Jeep is marked up as the 14th vehicle of ‘C’ company of the 82nd Reconnaissance Battalion, a constituent element of the US Second Armored Division.

This Division took part in campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany and was one of only a handful of American units to be used from the start to the end of US involvement in the Second World War.

Kingscote Barn wedding photography

The wedding of Liz and Richard.

Liz and Richard were married at the very popular Kingscote Barn, set in the middle of the beautiful country side of Tetbury, it offers everything a bride and groom could ask for and the staff are excellent.
The weather was typically English, sunshine in the morning, heavy rain around the ceremony and bright sunshine in the late afternoon, fortunately it didn't affect their wedding day as they were happy to have some of their photographs with the aid of umbrella's.

The stunning Rolls Royce was supplied by De Gournay cars. Andy was the chauffeur on the day, he was very helpful and professional as always. There are only a few wedding car companies that I would recommend and this is definitely one of them.

Liz had the most infectious smile, which literally lit up the day, it's so wonderful to work with people who are so happy!

Congratulations Liz and Richard, I hope you enjoyed your incredible three week honeymoon in the far East.

Bristol Zoo wedding photography

The wedding of Suzanne and Mike.

I recently photographed at the Pavilion, Bristol Zoo.

Bristol Zoo has so many photographic opportunities, unfortunately there just wasn't enough time to go every where I wanted too, but as you can see from the images below I still managed to capture some beautiful shots of the happy couple.

Suzanne and Mike were very easy going and extremely fun to work with on the day, it's time's like these when this job is so enjoyable and rewarding.

Opa Restaurant Bath wedding photography

The wedding of Chloe and Jay.
17th of June 2011.

The weather for Chloe and Jay's wedding wasn't great, it started to rain before the start of the ceremony at the Guildhall Bath, It then continued all day. So it was good to work with a couple with such a great attitude, no matter what the weather was like it wouldn't spoil their special day.
I think I managed to capture some fantastic shots with the use of umbrella's and lack of natural sunlight.
I know Chloe and Jay still had a fantastic wedding day at Opa restaurant, Bath.

Licentiate qualification achieved from the SWPP

I am very pleased to announce my work has been assessed by a panel of professional photographers at the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP). I have gained the Licentiate qualification in wedding photography (LSWPP).

This is a great and an important achievement, obtaining a Licentiate qualification proves my wedding photography work is of a suitable and professional standard. Over the last 8 years I have been producing photographs at a professional level. In the present industry climate when anyone with a decent digital camera believes they are a professional photographer, I felt I needed to add more substance to my qualification portfolio and achieving this very strict and high standard qualification is a great way to prove this.

Future bride and groom’s, need to carry out as much research about the photographer as possible, they need to view a large portfolio of work, read reviews, be recommended by previous clients, confirm the qualifications the photographer has gained. These are just a few of the important factors to consider. Even though budgets are key elements of any wedding, if you pay £200 for your wedding photographer then you need to expect a low standard of photographic skill and creative quality. The saying “You get what you pay for!” is very, very true, especially in this line of work.
