Since antiquity, dreams have been a marvel for the human conscience. Even in the 21st century when human beings have already landed on the Moon and are scaling vast astronomical distances, dreams have not lost their mystical attraction. Dreams are still a mystery for us and at the same time have pleasing as well as terrorizing effects on us.

Our religious scriptures abound in the extensive descriptions about dreams. The fact that a separate scripture had to be created especially for the analysis of the dreams amply corroborate their importance. We may however say that analysis of dreams is in fact an integral part of Astrology. Like astrology where predictions are made according to the movement of the planets, dreams also help us to draw an inference based on the sequence of events that we witness during sleep.

A layman broadly divides his dreams into good and bad ones. Invariably, he takes bad dreams as ill omens and vice versa. So-called modern intellectuals deride one’s beliefs in dreams as mere superstitions. But it is also a fact that in the western countries like USA, which is at least a century ahead of us in terms of technological development, dreams constitute an interesting subject for research in modern science.

WHY DO WE HAVE DREAMS

Different people have different kinds of views regarding the origin of dreams. Mostly these views are based on speculation. Scientists too have deeply studied the dreams. They say that the dreams are an outcome of the unique quality of our brain.

Brains of all higher animals including humans have two parts- 1) Conscious and 2) Sub-conscious. Conscious part of the brain is active during the awakened hours. It directly interacts with our immediate external environment. Sub-conscious part or mind on the other hand is always alert and keeps on working even when we are asleep. It is in fact a sink for the conscious mind and interacts constantly with our internal environment.

When we are awake, innumerable kinds of thoughts constantly appear in our conscious minds. Like ripples, these thoughts appear, stay for a moment and then disappear. Have you ever wondered where these thoughts go? Into our sub-conscious mind that always keeps on receiving these thoughts and dissipating them to nowhere, as is presumed usually. But these thoughts do not die out according to our presumption. Our sub-conscious mind has its unique way of disposing them. It plays these thoughts to us as dreams.

Desires are nothing but powerful thoughts. No matter how high a position a man is enjoying, he would not be free from desires. A rich man might desire to achieve something so that his name could become immortal. Even an ascetic who has renounced the world might have a desire for having some mystical but miraculous powers. All it means to say that desires do not leave a man till death. Even the action that one undertakes in order to attain salvation are in fact guided and driven by desire.

Now a question naturally arises: ‘Do all the desires that one might have materialize?’ Not all of them. Most of the desires of most people remain unfulfilled for one reason or another. Everyone has his physical as well as mental limits. Surprisingly most of the people desire for things or achievements that are beyond their limits. Our sub-conscious mind has a unique way of coping with ever increasing desires. It shows those unfulfilled desires as dreams in our sleep. Thus, in a way, dreams are nothing but those desires that are beyond our limit and are hence largely unfulfilled.

In dreams, we get such things that we cannot enjoy in our awakened period. In our dreams we can even make love to sexy, glamorous film heroines, something that is impossible during awakened state.

DO THE DREAMS AFFECT HUMAN LIFE?

Dreams do affect our day-to-day life, sometimes positively, sometimes negatively, though the scientific investigations to support this point are lacking. Your own experience with the dreams and how you felt afterwards are the only things that support this view. It is entirely a spiritual or para-psychological matter, which is far beyond the precepts of physical sciences. But experiences of even a layman have certain weight when it comes to the analysis of dreams.

Our religious scriptures contain profuse description of the dreams and their effects. In Sundar kand of Ramayana, an ogress Trijata relates her dream to her companion that in the dream, she had seen Ravan with tonsured head and going to the south riding an ass and that there was great stampede in Lanka. It is well known that within a month, her dream came true as Hanumana caused devastation by setting Lanka on fire that resulted in a great stampede there. Even Ravan ultimately migrated to the south i.e. met his death.

Dreams may also be termed as premonition i.e. having knowledge of the events that are to take place in future. But all the people are not able to draw an unfailing conclusion on the basis of the dreams. Those who are more pious, more spiritual in nature have a developed ability to draw a conclusion on the basis of the dreams. Same was the case with Trijata who is stated to be more pious and spiritually inclined than the rest of the ogresses as is apparent from this stanza:

All the dreams do not have similar effects. Outcome of some of the dreams begins to manifest within a few days whereas others might take months or even years to show their outcome. It is generally believed that only those dreams have effect, which we have during deep slumber. Those dreams that we have during short nap are usually ineffective. Thus, time of the dream is equally important. In any case, correct interpretation of dream helps us to condition ourselves physically and mentally to deal with the ensuing circumstances.

CATEGORIES OF DREAMS

Broadly, the dreams have been divided into 3 categories.

Strange dreams.
Premonition dreams.
Dreams those reflect real life.

Strange dreams :

As is apparent from the name, these dreams are strange in nature and produce strange feelings in the dreamer. The sequences that are played in such kind of dreams have no connection with reality such as one can see in a dream, a person with four heads, sixteen hands or with huge mountain-like body. One might even see elephants flying in his dream. Such sequences have no connection with reality but still people experience them. Sequences can be even stranger than one might expect.

Premonition dreams:

This category of dream can have two types- dreams that augur well, and dreams that augur ill. These are the most important kinds of dreams, which have long-lasting effect on our daily life. Sequences seen in these dreams like visiting temples and places of pilgrimage, sighting holy people and having their blessings and many such things, which are pleasant to us. Contrary to such sequences, one might see a woman clad in red or black sari taking someone towards the south. This type of sequences always augurs ill. Similarly, sighting of shooting stars and breaking shoes also indicate some mishap.

Dreams that show real thing :

This type of dream also does not have much importance and materialise only rarely. These dreams however fulfil our incomplete desires. Such as for example, one might be desirous of becoming a king, so in his dream, he becomes a king. Similarly, a pretty girl might want to marry an extremely handsome man. So in her dreams, she sees herself becoming a queen. Effect of such dreams lasts as long as we are dreaming. Once the sleep is disturbed, these dreams and their effects also vanish altogether.

TIMING OF THE DREAMS

During the whole night’s sleep, a normal human being has five cycles of dreams. An insane person can have even more up to fifteen cycles of dreams. Even a normal person has a complete cargo of dreams if he is mentally disturbed or having physical ailment. There are five distinct timings of the dreams. These are -

First quarter of the night that lasts one and a half to two hours.
Second quarter of the night that also lasts about two hours.
Third quarter of the night that has duration of two hours.
Fourth quarter of the night. It overlaps with dawn.
Early morning.

Experts and analysts of dreams believe that the dreams, which one has during the first quarter of the night, take one year to show their effect. Dreams of the second quarter manifest their effects within 8 to 10 months. Dreams of the third quarter materialise within 3 to 5 months whereas dreams, which one has during the fourth quarter or Brahma Muhurta, show their effects instantaneously or within a month. Dreams of early morning period are virtually ineffective for they are an outcome from state of half sleep.

Auspicious dreams: Sighting of cow, elephant, cadaver, girls, silver utensils and ornaments, learned Brahmin, king, mourning in the home are considered as auspicious signs. Moon, a tree in full bloom, beautiful garden, idols of deity or great people, temple of Lord Shiva, oxen, chariot or other vehicle, lotus, white cloth, astrologer, cotton, dancing troupe and book in the dream is definitely an auspicious sign. Similarly, performing actions like touring through the places of pilgrimage, conquering enemies, riding a horse, bathing in sacred rivers and meeting ascetics in the dream also show auspicious sign. Apart from these sighting of divine objects, eating rice and curd, drinking sherbet and delivering lectures are also auspicious sign.

Inauspicious dreams: Dreams in which one sights a shrivelled tree, ghost, giants, dried well, or pond, buffalo, owl, burning pyre, solar eclipse, accident etc. are definitely inauspicious. Similarly, wearing black or red clothes, getting insulted, swallowing snake, eating meat, roaming with empty vessel, sticking of mud on the body, getting stuck in the mud and riding camel, buffalo, or ass are inauspicious signs.

Apart from these, sequences like theft of precious metal and gems, abduction of wife, theft of shoes, sighting of shooting stars, drinking oil or ghee, sighting bandwagon and marriage procession as well as sighting honey bees in the courtyard, getting touched by a physician or a handicapped person etc. are extremely inauspicious signs that our dreams might show us.

INTERPRETATION OF DREAMS

Dream world is indeed marvellous. No one can fathom it. Million kinds of sequences appear in the dream but still these seem to be unending. Some of these sequences do have definite indication but most of them are meaningless. It is not possible to interpret all the sequences that more than six billion people of the world see in their dreams nor it is possible to count all these sequences. Broadly, the dream sequences can be divided into certain heads. Each of them has their own indication. All other sequences have more or less similar indications provided that they bear resemblance with these major sequences listed below -

Sighting of great people.
Sighting of temples and places of pilgrimage.
Sighting of holy objects and auspicious events.
Sighting of unholy objects and inauspicious events.
Sighting of violent animals.
Sighting of holy animals.
Sighting of strange looking people.
Sighting of strange events.
Sighting of losing and finding something.
Sighting of people dead long ago.

These are major types of sequences one usually sees in his dreams. All the other types of sequences revolve around these major types and hence have more or less similar effects. While going through the current discussion, you will come to learn a great deal of things about the omens related to the dreams. If you have a dream that augurs well, we advise you not to sleep again after having that dream in order to have its complete effect. Likewise, if you have an inauspicious dream, fall asleep again to minimise its bad effects. There are many more measures to minimise the bad effects of an inauspicious dream. We shall discuss about them in subsequent chapters.

RESULTS OF AUSPICIOUS DREAMS

Sighting of great and holy people, temples, place of pilgrimage, auspicious objects, birds and animals are considered good and such dreams as auspicious.

Sighting of great and holy people: Sighting of great and holy people in the dream augurs well. Following is a discussion about different categories of great and holy people.

Sighting of sages and ascetics: The dreamer might receive some auspicious news. Receiving of gift from the sage in dream signifies even more auspiciousness.
Sighting of teacher: This is also an auspicious sign. Blessing by the Guru signifies even more auspiciousness.
Sighting of astrologer: This signifies a sudden search in the fortune.
Sighting of the elders: This is a beneficial sign. A blessing by the elders in dreams results into the fulfilment of desires.
Sighting of the king: This is also an auspicious sign that indicates fulfilment of desires.

Similarly, sighting of other great and pious people gives similar result. Blessing by them also signifies greater fortune. Sighting of temples and place of pilgrimage -

Sighting of temple: If a temple is seen in the dream along with an idol of Goddess Durga in her four-armed appearance, it is auspicious by all means and signifies removal of the crisis.
Sighting of Lord Shiva: Appearance of Lord Shiva in the dream is extremely benevolent. This also signifies end of the crisis period.
Sighting of Goddess Lakshmi: Sighting of Goddess Lakshmi in the dreams signifies that the dreamer is soon to be blessed by her. The dreamer might also receive an expected wealth.
Sighting of sacred rivers: Sighting of sacred rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari etc. brings peace and tranquillity in life. If the dreamer sees himself taking a bath in these rivers, it shows good health for him.
Sighting of place of pilgrimage: Sighting of holy places of pilgrimage like Kedarnath, Badrinath, Dwarka, Amarnath etc. brings peace, prosperity as well as indicates a pilgrimage or some auspicious happening in the household of the dreamer. Similarly, sighting of sea, Cadamba tree or any other sacred objects indicates peace, prosperity and auspiciousness for the dreamer.

SIGHTING OF AUSPICIOUS AND HOLY OBJECTS -

Sighting of saffron and musk: It indicates fame and fortune for you. Purchasing and touching these things in the dream shows even greater auspiciousness.
Sighting of flowers: Sighting of flowers like lotus and rose indicates good health for you.
Sighting of books and scriptures: It indicates mental and intellectual development for you.
Sighting of stationary item: Sighting of stationary items like pen, pencil, notebook etc. indicates achievement of your goals. Such dreams are even more significant for the literateurs.
Sighting of treasures: It indicates certain prosperity for you. You might receive immense wealth from some unexpected source.
Sighting of lamp and incense sticks: This is also an auspicious indication. It shows immediate removal of your crisis.
Sighting of fields and granary: It indicates receiving of good news as well as prosperity. Some auspicious event might take place in your home.

Apart from these, auspicious objects and events, sighting of bedstead, green vegetables, fruits, trident, planet Venus, well furnished bedstead, pearls and diamonds, flag, growing of moustache, fountain, son, daughter-in-law, rock addict, indulgence in luxuries, heaven, pillow, salt, shop and office, mother, binocular, entertainment items like television, radio etc., tents, court and lighted fire pot are all auspicious sign.

SIGHTING OF INAUSPICIOUS OBJECTS

Sighting of beggar: If you see in your dream that a beggar is begging for alms from you, it is an inauspicious sign that indicates serious illness for a family member.
Sighting of crematoria: This is an inauspicious sign that indicates imminent crisis for you. Some experts regard such dream as auspicious.
Sighting of prison: It indicates imminent crisis or loss.
Sighting of crossing: This is also inauspicious and shows a state of dilemma for you.
Sighting of auction: Sighting of auction in dream is not an auspicious sign. It indicates some monetary crisis in the family.
Sighting of robbers: It also indicates imminent crisis.
Sighting of net: It indicates that you will be surrounded by crises.

Apart from these, sighting of lepers, handicapped people, aeroplane, ship, peon, barber, board, bottle, cage, naked person, crown, acid, bread, hell, cowherd, ornaments, grocer, enemy, stable, sinking person, heap of wood, rice, shrivelled tree, prisoner, killer, wall, guest, orphanage, bangles, flames of fire, forest, breaking of the nest, receiving and giving of bribe, stones and pebbles, pony, eclipse, brooms, and metals in the dream is extremely inauspicious indicates ill omens for the dreamer.

SIGHTING OF INAUSPICIOUS EVENTS AND THIER INDICATION -

Death of the self or a relative: Sighting of the death of the self or of a relative indicates an increment in the expected life span of the concerned person. In other words, it is an auspicious indication.
Getting insulted or beaten up: This is also an auspicious indication that shows removal of your worries and enemies.
Killing someone: Sighting of you killing someone in your dream or performing some other cruel task augurs well. It shows your win in a dispute and on your enemy.
Offering oblations to the dead ancestors: If you see yourself offering oblations to your dead ancestors in your dream, it shows comfort in your future life.
Getting injured: Sighting of you getting injured in the dream indicates your win in litigation or a dispute.
Bitten by the snake: Sighting of you being bitten by the snake in your dream indicates good health and wealth for you. Even the mere sighting of snake in the dream augurs well.
Weeping: Sighting of yourself weeping or mourning in the dream indicates peace and prosperity for you.
Stung by the insects: Sighting of yourself being surrounded by insects like flies, mosquitoes, ticks etc. is an auspicious sign. It indicates that you will receive an extremely pretty wife.

Roaming in a garden: Sighting of the self in the dream roaming in a garden and not finding an end to the passages indicates death or death-like pain.
Dancing and laughing: Sighting of the self in the dream laughing or dancing indicates killing soon afterwards.
Wearing of red flower and thread: If someone sees himself in the dream wearing a red flower or red thread, it indicates loss of health and related pains for the dreamer.

Talk about marriage: If a widow sees in her dream that talks for her marriage are going on, it indicates serious illness for her.

What is Panchang?

Vedic Astrology divides time into five fundamental parts together called the Panchang. How is Panchang Calculated?

Hindu Panchang is an ancient Indian Calendar system based on Astrological facts and astronomical data. The actual casting of a Panchang involves elaborate mathematical work involving high level of spherical geometry and sound understanding of astronomical phenomena, such as sidereal movements of heavenly bodies. The calculations in the Panchang are used to determine the most ideal or auspicious vaar, tithis, yogas, nakshatras and karan commonly called the Muhurat, for carrying out various activities like vivah muhurat or marriage, grihapravesh, starting a puja etc. Even ayurvedic remedies and herbs when administered under a particular nakshatra are most effective. The time between two consecutive sun rises is the Solar day and the time between two consecutive moon rises is Lunar Day or Tithi. The panchang measures time in lunar months whose names are based on stars and constellations. The new moon is called "Amavasya" and it ushers in the new month. The first fortnight of the full moon is known as Shukla paksha or "the bright half" as the moon waxes; while the dark half fortnight of the month is called Krishna paksha during which the moon wanes. About Nadi Astrology /Thumb Impressions

Nadi in Sanskrit means the pulse, the subtle channels in the body, a division of time (24 minutes). In Tamil, the language of Tamil Nadu, Nadi means in search of. To be in search of the past, the reason of existence, to search the roots and essence of the past. In Yoga and Ayurveda, Nadi are the subtle channels that give message to the different parts of the body plus the Ida, Pingala and Sushumna nadi. Grantha is a great book of knowledge.

Nadi Granthas or the great books of subtle knowledge, are recordings of the Sapta Rishi. Sapta means seven and Rishi means Sages. Brahma conceived the Seven Great Sages out of his mind to help in his creation of the world. They were Bhrigu, Angira, Atri, Vishvamitra, Kashyapa, Vashishta, and Agastya. They knew the key to creation and the destiny of each and every individual born and yet to be born. What is their purpose? Why they were born? What karma they bring into their life? These Granthas were not written as predictions but as records of life and information on secret knowledge. This knowledge was not restricted to astrology alone but to other subjects including Science, Ayurveda, Yoga, Spirituality, Alchemy, Occult and Jyotisha. Their thoughts and knowledge was passed down orally from one generation to another and then finally written down on palm leafs. They were originally in Sanskrit but they also got translated into Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam and other regional languages. A collection of palm leafs become one chapter within a Granthas. So a complete Grantha could be many thousands of palm leafs.

The Nadis are equivalent to books today. The only difference is that Nadis are only filled with profound knowledge and the keys to existence on all levels- practical, spiritual and subtle. The knowledge within these Nadis is pure and profound. The mind of the interpreter may not be able to grasp the great information that the Sages are trying to impart and therefore bring the reading down to a more material level.
Some are not complete due to the loss or destruction of the leaves. Each of rishis has a Grantha from which his knowledge is dispersed. These Granthas include Agastya nadi, Brighu nadi, Brahma nadi, Shiva nadi, Kaushika nadi ( Vishwamitra) etc. The nadi reader traditionally follows the writings on just one of the great rishis

The records were kept in many libraries in ancient India. For centuries few realized the importance of these records and the nadi manuscripts were left to rot. Under the patronage of the Chola Dynasty that ruled South India from 10th to 13th Century AD, the leafs were classified and kept in the library of Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. Other kings around India also helped in the preservation of these Nadi granthas as well.

Many of these leafs were destroyed by the invading armies of the Mughals and the British. While the Mughals asked them to be burnt, British took numerous Nadi back to Britain but they sold most connected to astrology. Valluvar community from Vaitheeswaran Koil in Tamil Nadu chiefly bought there. This is why most of the Nadis today are connected to astrology.

Each Nadi in Tamil Nadu is made up of ola or palm leaf, written in Vatta ezhuthu, a Tamil script, with a sharp, pen like instrument called ezhuthani. Rubbing peacock oil on auspicious occasions preserves the palm leaves. Peacock is also the vehicle for Murughun (Mars). So the subtle hint is that the great Lord Murughun helps preserve and protect this ancient knowledge. This is why there are so many Nadi readers outside one of Mars’s main places of power in Vaitheeswaran Koil.

There are other centre of Nadis. In Hoshiarpur, Punjab, a family og Bhrigu nadi readers are found.

The Granthas of Nadi Jyotisha
There are many texts of Nadi Jyotisha. Some give obscure and often secret techniques of Vedic Astrology. They give the key to precise interpretation. Among them include Bhrighu Nandi nadi, Bhrighu nadi, Chandra Kala Nadi, Sapta Rishi Nadi etc.

The Nadi readers are not astrologers but decoders of ancient scriptures. All they are doing is deciphering the data. His skills are limited to reading what is written. If the nadi leafs are incomplete or he has not found the right nadi or the time is not correct for you, then this information cannot be right. In fact the time has to be right for the individual to get the right nadi. This information is very precious and not everyone is ready to receive it. This is the reason so many get the wrong or incomplete information. The Rishis had only wanted those who were ready to receive information, to get it. In essence it is not the fault of the Nadi or the reader if you do not get the right information that chronicles the past, present and future.

Nadi reader tries to find the right Nadi by taking the thumb impression. According to the Nadi Granthas there are 1008 types of thumb impressions and these will narrow down the batch of Nadis where the story of your life is told. The impression of the right thumb for men and the left one for women is taken. The thumbprint has to match the particular batch of palm leafs for the reading to take place. Despite the claims of the nadi readers, it is impossible to find the right nadi for everyone.

The Kandams
These Jyotish Nadis Granthas divide the information on each individual life into sixteen chapters or kandams. Each chapter shows various aspects of life similar to the horoscope and its twelve houses. But there are added kandams, which are the real key of the Nadi reading.
The details covered in each Kandam generally are as follows:-

Kandam 1- similar to the first house or ascendant. This will contain names
parents and wife/husband's, brothers, sisters, maternal uncles, children,
profession and general list of future predictions for all the 12 houses.

Kandam 2 – similar to second house. Money ,family speech, eyes, education, vision

Kandam 3 - similar to third house. Brothers and Sisters

Kandam 4 - similar to fourth house. Mother ,House, Lands, Vehicles, Happiness

Kandam 5 - similar to fifth house. Children, birth of children, reasons for not having children, creativity

Kandam 6 - similar to sixth house. Enemies, Diseases, Debts, cases in court.

Kandam 7 - similar to seventh house. Marriage, Married life, problems nad blessing from marriage.

Kandam 8 - similar to eighth house. Danger to life, longevity, period of death.

Kandam 9 - similar to ninth house. Father, Wealth, luck, Temple, spirituality, devotion to God and Guru

Kandam 10 - similar to tenth house. Business, Job, Profession, success

Kandam 11 - similar to eleventh house. Profit, money, gain, second Marriage.

Kandam 12 - similar to Twelfth house. Expenditure, loss, Foreign travel, moksha, self realisation, next birth.
After the twelve kandams that relate to the twelve astrology houses, there come special chapters that deal with additional aspects of life.

Kandam 13 - Shanti Kandam – Shanti means peace. This chapters deals with pacifying the past life issues, past karma and last birth. The remedial measures that need to be done in order to calm the negative karma. This is the most important Kandam. By rectifying the past life allows us to live in the present with happiness and peace. But this is also the Kandam people have the greatest problem with, as it is open to abuse by the unscrupulous Nadi practitioners. Do remember that not all Nadi Readers are corrupt and unscrupulous. They usually are very dharmic following their family tradition faithfully. As rectifying the past life is essential to move forward, it does not have to be done through expensive pujas and rituals if the individual cannot afford them. TheRishis could not have thought that only the wealthy who can afford these rituals, would the only ones who are relieved of their past karmas. This cannot be right. But the onus falls on the individual to make effort to clear his wrong karma once they gets aware of the issues they have collected in the past. It is important to appeasement the deities and work with the remedies. Without working with this essential aspect of the Nadi reading, there is unlikely to bring any lasting benefit. While the other kandams give knowledge of past life and what is going to happen now. We are not able to enjoy the future properly without sorting out the baggage of past karma.

Kandam 14 – Diksha Kandam- Diksha means initiation. Here it refers to initiation into secret knowledge that allows the deeper world to develop through the use of the right mantras and the right protection. To get the right diksha, the individual has to be willing to clear the past karma revealed in the shanti kandam.

Kandam 15 – Aushadha kandam. Aushadha means herbs, in this case medicine. This kandam deals with health and healing.

Kandam 16 - Dasa Bhukti kandam. This Kandam 16- Dasa Bhukti kandam. This is Nadi version of the dasa and bhuktis for life.

In addition to these, there is also a special chapter for Prasna. The reader answers the questions from what is written by the Rishis. The nadi reader does not give these answers through traditional prashna astrology.

What one must understand it that Nadi is a very ancient science. And it should not be misused. Only those with a great desire to know their past and future should go, with the right attitude and devotion. Otherwise it is not possible for them to receive the good results. Also if you do go to the home of Nadi in Vaitheshwaran or to a good Nadi reader elsewhere and do not receive the right reading, then it is also part of your karma too. Don’t blame the reader. The time may not have been right for you as yet. You may have to try again at a later date.

How to wear the stone
To obtain the full benefic effects of the stone, wear it when Moon is within a specific constellation on a specified day and time. Wearing it in the specified Nakshatra (star) enhances the benefic effects of the stone. Take the stone of a size specified or greater, in fraction of 1/4 Ratti, rejecting fractions of 3/4 Ratti. Get it studded in the specified metal such that it touches the finger from the bottom. Before wearing it light a lamp and incense sticks and meditate on your God. In mythology, Andromeda, a beautiful Ethiopian princess, was the daughter of Phoenican king Cepheus and his queen Cassiopia. Cassiopia was so proud of her daughter's beauty that she boasted that not even the divine nymphs, daughters of Neptune, could hold a candle to her! Ooops. The nyphs (Nereids) complained to Neptune, who naturally enough sent the sea-monster Cetus to ravage the vain queen's coastline. After consultation with an oracle, Andromeda was then chained to a rock by her parents as a virgin sacrifice to the ravaging sea-monster. Fortunately, she was saved by the hero Perseus, the Gorgon-slayer, who, arriving on his winged sandals in the nick of time, turned the sea-monster to stone with the Gorgon's Head and married the princess. Just as it should be, really. Alpheratz is a star of the nature of Venus, awakening grace, popularity, independence, and honours, so the retrograde Venus phase this year is likely in some ways at least to be more pleasant than it was last time! Vastu Purusha

Vastu Purusha is the god for construction of structures and buildings. Once upon a time, an unknown person came into existence and he obstructed the earth and the sky with his huge body. The Devtas suddenly caught the person and threw him below with his face down, and whichever part of the body of the person was held by different Devtas, the Devtas became presiding deities of that part of the body. The creator, Brahma, had made the person as “god of the house” - ‘Vastu Purusha.'
There is another interesting story of Vastu Purusha in Matsya Purana. It narrates the birth of Vastu Purusha. In an encounter with a Rakshasa called Andhikasur, Lord Shiva became tired and exhausted, and he began to sweat profusely. A man was born out of the drops of Lord Shiva's sweat. He looked very cruel. He was very hungry and began to make penance to appease Lord Shiva and to get a boon from him. Lord Shiva was pleased with his penance and appeared before him. The devotee prayed to Lord Shiva, “Oh Lord! Please permit me to eat away all the three worlds.” Lord Shiva granted his prayer. He got possession of all the three worlds and was about to eat the terrestrial world. The celestial beings, Brahma, Shiva, and the demons were terrified and they caught hold of the devotee and encircled him. Forty-five deities caught hold of the devotee and pressed him down. This Devotee has been in that position ever since that time. Lord Brahma blessed him and said that he would be the deity of all the plots and constructions, and offerings would be made to him. In return Vastu Purusha is said to be taking care of the inmates of the building
Vaastu is the more authorities and detailed counterpart of KALPURUSH.
This branch of astrology does not do any predictive work but helps you to harness the nature's energy by letting the air, sunlight, water, fire and earth into your life from the RIGHT DIRECTION and in the RIGHT QUANTITY.

~~Retrograde Cycles~~

The retrograde period is best seen as a cycle, beginning when Mars begins to slow to a halt before travelling backwards through the zodiac, and ending when he returns to the point where he first paused. However, during the cycle, the planetary energy is most powerful – and more likely to generate critical events of universal importance – when Mars makes a station, appearing motionless in the sky. These stationary periods occur at the beginning of the cycle (when Mars first halts as he prepares to move backwards) and midway through the cycle when Mars slows to a stop before moving forward again. Saturn leaves Leo, enters Virgo & Sade Sati Report

Today on 9th September, Saturn will leave Leo sign (Simha Rashi) around 12:00 midnight IST and will enter in Virgo sign (Kanya Rashi). Saturn is a slowest moving planet among nine planets and hence its sign change is considered important from astrological perspective. Change of sign will have impact both on individuals as well as on nations. Leo is a sign of Sun which was unfriendly to Saturn and hence some astrologers believed that disturbances and recession in past two years were due to Saturn's presence in Leo. Now Saturn is entering into Virgo which is owned by Mercury who is friendly to Saturn and hence astrologers are expecting a better time ahead.

Saturn is called Shani in Sanskrit and is the most fearsome planets in astrology. Saturn also causes Sade Sati (seven and half year period) which people believe inauspicious and fear a lot. Saturn entering in Virgo also means that people having Cancer moon sign will not be under influence of Shani Sade Sati (seven and half year period of Saturn) now onwards. On the other side, Shani Sade Sati will start for the people having Libra (Tula) as Moon sign. So with Saturn being in Virgo, people having Leo, Virgo and Libra will be under influence of Sade Sati.
