The keyword is balance. If you could not achieve this with your partner then you need time without anyone to get back your vital sense of homeostasis. Come back to yourself.

However, those of you who have been single for a long time might be feeling this more now that Saturn is in Libra. You might be analyzing yourself at a deeper level to understand why you cannot seem to find the perfect partner for you.

This of course needs to be looked at in a deeper way than the surface allows. Excuses like 'He chews with his mouth open' or 'There are just no available women in XYZ' just won't do.

In honor of Saturn in Libra, I will continue with my series on love and partnerships.

If you are looking for marriage or relationship advice at the moment, you are certainly not alone. The energies seem to be infused with relationship angst in one way or another at this time - and it's just getting started.

Break-ups, make-ups, perpetual singleness, stagnant marriages, boundary issues, frozen voices, silent deadlocks, differing views on commitment and love triangles - we are all feeling it.

Expect things to intensify and talks to deepen with the Venus Retrograde in Scorpio coming up soon. Ex's could reappear, karmic love stories come alive, differences of depth in intimacy become glaring or secrets emerge. It's all or nothing in relationships.

Commitment
One of you may want deeper commitment and the other might not. Maybe one person realizes that the relationship isn't right OR they are afraid to go deeper. Relationships allow us to grow by understanding ourselves at a deeper level through mirroring the other. This can introduce real change and growth to your life. Others have the ability to transform you and vice versa.

When you start to do the real work, you will stop eternally dating the wrong people who don't nourish you. By experiencing yourself through another, you burn out a pattern of relating that you have inherited or created. One day you will say, 'No More, I won't accept your behaviour or mine any longer'.

Sometimes you need a real nasty to come along to "pop your pimple" and excavate your hidden behaviour permanently or to show you quite explicitly how you are attracting that energy.

Meditations on Marriage During Saturn in Libra

Marriage. The Topic du Jour lately for everyone due to Saturn's entry into Libra, but especially if you have just finished your Saturn Return in Virgo or are just embarking on your Saturn Return in Libra and between 27 and 33.

All your friends are doing it. Maybe you've taken the leap already, or are busy thinking about it - or the lack of it - but the topic is undeniably hovering in the airwaves like a UFO.

Your second Saturn Return is an important time of karmic love relationships too. That doesn't mean it's forever though. You know those soulmate types you can't live with, can't live without - who, in retrospect, you realise have taught you bunches of lessons cloaked in a flurry of drama, but you are just terribly wrong for each other in the long term.

These usually happen just before a new era, healthy love relationship.

In the next three years as Saturn moves through Libra, everyone will be affected at some level.

Relationships need to be consciously defined.

To marry or not to marry. To marry or to separate. To stay together, but unmarried. To wondering why you are not married yet and the intense need for coupling.

If you are having your Saturn Return, you can't help but notice that many of your friends around age 30 are getting married or have strong urges to get married. You might have dated bad boys and emotional vampires in your 20's but now you start to crave more stability and less mind games.

You might shock yourself by becoming "tamed" when you meet the right person and suddenly understand the nature of true unconditional love.

Is your mind now focussed on the future and what it holds?

Getting Things Right
If your relationship has been out of balance, now is the time to put things right. You may need to speak up and voice your concerns instead of merely placating the other with a flimsy bandaid. If you are not authentic in your relationship, it hurts both parties.

Do you need to shift chores or responsibilities to gain more equality? Do you need to tell the other person where you feel like you are getting the short end of the stick? It can only be better when both of you are operating from a place of honesty and authenticity, otherwise it could feel like you are two robots having a relationship.

Let's call you Wall-e and Eva.

If you are in search of greater intimacy, greater depth in your relationship and an emotional investment in the future, this might feel unfulfilling on a soul level.

Now that Saturn is in Libra, all those relationships which are going nowhere will most definately be given the final heave-ho. A classic make or break time.

Or you could be on the right track, but need to balance or sort a few things out before taking the plunge into greater commitment in some way.

Modern Marriage
What does marriage mean for you? What is your motivation in getting married?

Do you want the dream wedding and for your mother to get off your back already or do you want the actual realities of marriage?

Do you want to keep up with the Jones's or do you want to invest emotionally and financially in your partnership, shifting your orientation in life towards greater responsibility, creating a beautiful array of alchemical change in your life?

To have children?

If your relationship is not balanced at the moment, then a wedding or a child will not fix that. Only you and your partner can, and Saturn implores you to do so.

If you have been in a going-nowhere relationship for five years, hoping one day he will pop the question, are you being realistic? Saturn in Libra time, is time to see the writing on the wall. Time to be realistic about what you both want. Time to value yourself more and what you have to contribute to a committed partnership.

You might realise that you want different things and to get those things, you have to make a hard decision.

This works both ways and if your partner is urging you to get married and you are fighting it, they have every right to tell you what they want.

This reminds me of Beyonce's song "Single Ladies"- if you like it then you should have put a ring on it. Have a listen!

Commitment Phobia
You could be feeling this pressure to marry but you or your man have commitment issues. The thought of being bonded to one person makes you perspire subtly and you are busy plotting escape plans in your head...just in case. This could be conscious or unconscious too.

If you keep finding things that are wrong in the relationship and then the next day kick yourself for being so petty, you could be suffering from a form of unconscious commitment phobia.

If you got married, all other possibilities and opportunities in the future would be off the table and this could seem like a restriction of your soul. Either it's not time for you to get married yet - or ever - or you could realise that this is not a death sentence, it's a partnership which strengthens both of you.

Viewing it this way gives you a one-way ticket to adulthood.

I for one believe in the beauty and romance of marriage, when it is well-considered. However, I also believe that you should be able to make your own rules that work for both of you and that people change over time.

As long as you are both on the same page and committed to the relationship, then it will continue.

Stagnant situations are not good for the soul.

I just read a great book about deliberating over whether to get married or not, called Committed: A Skeptic Makes Peace with Marriage by Elizabeth Gilbert - the same author of Eat, Pray, Love.

Gilbert talks about the history of marriage and what the motivations for getting married were throughout the ages. Does it benefit both partners? What are the things you sacrifice? From romance to convenience to duty, she provides a stimulating discussion of the topic, eventually at the end deciding to take the plunge for the second time and marry her Brazilian lover.

I recommend it highly if you are considering marriage.

Huge Energy Shift as Saturn Enters Libra

A new era has officially begun.

Saturn has just entered Libra for the long haul until 2012.

This is a major paradigm shift and you should be able to feel the energy change. I have been feeling the energy shift for the last week and a half already. Things feel different and a whole new bunch of issues have intensified.

All of those with Saturn in Virgo have OFFICIALLY finished their Saturn Returns. Well done Cosmic Graduate! It has been a long road.

Now the trick is to not forget what you've learnt during Saturn in Virgo while leaping forward into this new energy.

The following guide is for everyone but even more so for those undergoing their Saturn Return at the moment with Saturn in Libra in your natal chart.

Relationships and The Other
Saturn in Libra provides an excellent opportunity for us to focus on our relationships and see whether adjustments can be made so that they become more satisfying. It’s a good time to reflect and ask ourselves questions such as: Are my relationships fulfilling? Am I being authentic? Is my partner? Are my friends? Does my partner accept me for who I really am and vice versa? Are my relationships balanced and fair?

The way that you relate with others and who you relate with, will be placed under a microscope in order to assess the basic structure of your personal community.

Saturn in Libra is the perfect time to realistically assess your relationship and see whether it has a future or not. You might have a strong urge to structure it more formally, such as getting married and require conscious decisions from both of you as to where it is going. One or both of you will want to set some longterm goals.

If the relationship is unfairly restricting you, limiting you or not honouring your true self, you might decide to bust out, or if you stick your ostrich head in the sand, your partner might do it for you.

Meditations on Saturn in Virgo

So. Last few weeks of Saturn in Virgo now before it eases into Libra on 22 July 2010.

In fact, with three planets in Virgo in the next few weeks - Saturn, Mars and Venus - you have a lot of energy at your disposal to fine tune the details, wrap up projects, refine your schedule and secure the details of your new health and emotional habits.

But remember to be gentle on yourself and others and observe yourself softening on your perfectionistic tendencies.

If you Virgo-out on this energy, you might feel like you have so much to do and not enough time to do it in (does it feel like time is going faster!?). Don't succumb to procrastination! Why not honour your schedule and to-do lists so that you can sleep well and not beat yourself up but also realise that there is only so much you can do in one day.

By now you should be streamlining your work habits and your deep wisdom tells you that you will actually be more efficient if you take breaks and work more intelligently not obsessively.

You are good enough and you know more than you think.

If there is a much needed change you have not followed through with yet, then expect a strong urge to do so again towards the end of the month with the Saturn-Uranus opposition in Aries/Libra. This change might happen whether you plan it or not and if you have stalled on this for ages or are in denial, something might push you out of your comfort zone.

How are you?

Can you believe how much has changed since September 2007? Is your life radically different?

Saturn is at 28 degrees of Virgo. Saturn will enter Libra on 22 July, 2010. This means just over a month left (officially) of your Saturn Return in Virgo or Saturn in Virgo just messing with you in some way.

This is crunch time. Your chance to perfect, refine and permanently implement the new changes. Banish procrastination and fear. It is so last year.

Can you see your future clearly or is it temporarily blocked from you in these last stages of purification?

A commenter on the blog said this a few days ago: "I feel an overwhelming sense of peace inside and feel at "home" with myself more than ever before." A beautiful report back from the end stages of the Saturn Return.

Now that you have come through the eye of the storm, you should feel at peace. You should start to remember who you really are. You will probably think about lost skills and talents from your childhood and how you can start getting them back. You promise yourself you will take no more merde and try not to dish any out. You are healing from detours taken down paths that don't lead to your highest future.

Remember the planets are pretty intense this month and next month, with a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn on June 26 and a Total Solar Eclipse in Cancer on July 11.

This full moon in June will be pretty stressful, it's best to be aware of it and take care of yourself during this time. Try not to do anything outrageously risky and just remember that energies are intensified. Some of you will have huge changes and long simmering problems will come to a head.

Also, think back to what was happening around the end of 2009. Is there anything unresolved about that yet? Time to let it go or heal.

If you cannot see your future clearly yet, why not clarify in your head what it is that you truly want. When you have clarity, then things can miraculously come together. But otherwise, be patient. I truly believe that we will enter a new paradigm when Saturn enters Libra, and the future might come rushing at you faster than you can handle.

Also, with Uranus around, things might just turn out in a totally unexpected way.

Uranus brings surprising insights and change

Calling everyone.

The game is about to change. A cycle is coming to an end, a new cycle is about to begin and your future is coming to a big screen near you - ridiculously sooner than you thought.

Yes with Uranus about to enter Aries towards the end of May things are going to change pretty soon and in a big way since Jupiter is at the same point too. Will you surprisingly reinvent yourself or will the reinvention be a surprise even to you?

Saturn in Virgo has been hard for a lot of people since September 2007, emphasizing our neuroses and then helping us finally learn how to let go of them. But Saturn is getting ready to go direct soon and will enter Libra officially in July. This means a whole new ballgame and the changes will take effect with lightening speed from the end of May onwards.

Calling all of those with Saturn in Libra. Your Saturn Return is taking place in exciting times!

But before you start worrying about Saturn coming back to Libra in July, please don't forget that Saturn is exalted in Libra. This means Saturn feels more at home in Libra than in many other signs. Not that he will let you get away with anything.

What changes in your life do you desperately need to make? What do you want to be when you grown up? What concrete steps are you taking towards that? What kind of relationship with your friends and your partner do you want? What is balanced, fair and just? Have you sorted out your Daddy or Mommy issues and stopped projecting them onto your relationship?

If you haven't had any major changes thrust in your face yet from external sources, why not start to seriously think about your life right now. Your life is begging you to make the ridiculously necessary changes, which you know in your heart are needed for you to get to where you want to be.

Get ready for a series of tests and don't beat yourself up if you fail the first ones...there will be more over the next few years. You might start off shoddy using all your old tricks and then refine your character as saturn moves back and forth over your natal saturn.

I think someone always is who they are, but when your Saturn Return comes around you shake off all the external things in your environment which have been inhibiting you from trying to give your best shot at being yourself. First the storm, then the calm.

Think The Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Look what he was capable of surviving! Compared to that, the next few years will be a doddle. Think Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. Think Committed by the same author. Think discipline. Think rehab. Think therapy. Think firmer, more authentic commitments, in love and business.

Wonder constantly what your highest self would do. Spin with the changes then stop spinning and change. Why did you come here? What are you meant to be doing? What has been stopping you from doing it? Can you commit with integrity?

You will be tested.

If you are busy going to the next level in your career or relationship, well done! You have worked hard to get here and deserve your success.

Saturn Returns to Virgo and Pluto goes Retrograde

As of April 8, 2010 Saturn will return to Virgo to continue retrograding up to 27 degrees of Virgo in late May and then turn direct on June 4, 2010 trudging forward back out of Virgo up until July 22, 2010 when Saturn re-enters Libra for the longhaul...until Saturn enters Scorpio on October 6, 2012.

So, this means that Saturn will take one last direct inspection into the lives of Virgos and Pisces to see if the lessons have been learned or if one last push is needed to lock down your new disciplined self in the area of your life which has changed dramatically in the last few years.

And all the people with Saturn in Virgo in their natal charts, will experience a last look into their Saturn Return's and the enormous, life-changing themes that have occurred since Saturn first entered Virgo in September 2007. I for one remember that time distinctly and cannot even recognize my life as it is now compared to how it used to be prior to September 2007.

So from now until late July (and especially until June 4 when Saturn is retrograde and primed for change), you have a last chance to entrench the changes brought about by your Saturn Return, a last chance to make the changes you know you have been putting off, and maybe even a final test. In other news, Pluto has just gone retrograde and I have experienced this last week, when it was busy stationing to turn retrograde, as a sort of life-review. Events in my life kind of flashed before my eyes, in dreams, daydreams and thoughts. It was a major purging of events from my past, spiritually and emotionally. It was an admission of things long buried and a peek into the dark crevices of my subconsious in order to facilitate deep transformation. And finally, a silent atonement for misdeeds of the past and an acceptance that no-one is perfect.

On a literal note, we had the earthquake in Mexico (Pluto is in Capricorn which rules foundations and structures) with reverberations felt in California - the Plutonic depths of the earth were shaking themselves up. We have also seen plenty of terrorist attacks in the last two weeks.

I also just watched the disaster movie 2012, as Pluto was going retrograde, and stared wide-eyed at the visuals of sidewalks cracking up and the structures of the earth being demolished.

All very Pluto.

Mars Direct at last! + New Moon in Pisces

I've been experiencing seeds of the shift since about 5 days ago. All of a sudden after procrastinating over many things, I experienced the feeling that I suddenly had many things to do and not enough time to do them in. Have you been feeling the same way?

I for one am personally extremely happy that Mars has just gone direct after a period of winter slumber. Mars will be agitating the same point in Leo for a while longer though so maybe more wheel-revving frustrations for a bit, but not much longer - just until you Get It and decide upon a mature choice of action.

It's best until you wait for the New Moon at 25°10′ Pisces on March 15, if possible, which will provide a better fertile ground for action and new beginnings - or anything that's been in review since mid-December and before. Best not to rush off on a dark moon and start something after waking up from slumber, and then regret it a few weeks or months down the line. Remember to use the new wisdom you picked up on a particular area in your life during the retro phase - it was not all for nothing.

The Sabian Symbol for this new moon is "A New Moon Reveals That It's Time For People To Go Ahead With Their Different Projects". Wow! How apt. I love it when astrology is so divinely beautifully apt.

If your Saturn is in Libra, Saturn will be slowly going forward from 28 degrees Virgo throughout Libra for the next few years. I want to say "Get your affairs in order", but it's not necessary, you will WANT to get your affairs in order, cut out the riff-raff and streamline your life. Your priorities will change and they probably have started to already.

It's all good, just don't ignore and deny the grown-up soapies coming your way, since you are meant to learn from them and become more wise in the process.

Saturn and Mars Retrograde - Doors ain't opening just yet

Wow have I heard so many people complain that they are stuck lately. So if you are feeling this way, join the club.

"If only one door would open for me", "If I could just get a foot in the door!" and "It feels like nothing is moving".

Blergh. But at least there is a pattern here and it is clearly cosmic energy with the gears in reverse - so don't take it too personally.

Saturn has been retrograde since January and will only go direct again at the beginning of June. This could stall many things in your life, depending on your natal chart, and I suspect it is particularly difficult for folks experiencing their Saturn Returns.

You are being asked to go over things that have happened before, to make sure you're on the right track and this means "the new" doesn't start just yet.

But I know you are definately ready for the new if you have Saturn in Virgo. You are on the proverbial plateau. So when does the new you get to premiere his or herself?! Only after you've fine-tuned your changes that's when. And now you have this precious time before June to do just that.

Might as well all get on with it instead of grumping about :)

But let's not leave Mars out of the picture. The planet of action, passion and energy is also retrograde until around mid-March. This means nothing much is happening! Well in terms of new projects that is, but a whole lot is happening in the house that Mars is retrograding in, in your chart.

You are seriously paying a whole lot of attention to that area of your life, putting lot's of energy into revising your strategy in that department of life and finding what works better for you.

So you should find that when Mars goes direct in March, things will definately start moving for you again, and when Saturn goes direct, a whole lotta things will start moving again!

Saggo Energy Infusion

Aren't you loving the new infusion of lighter Sagittarian energy with the Sun and Mercury now both in Saggo?

I for one was dancing in the dark trying to sidestep mental shadows in late October and the most part of November with so many planets in Scorpio battling it out. And of course Pluto in Capricorn squaring Saturn in Libra was exact around mid-month.

Heavy times and of course a rough start for those beginning their Hero's Journey with Saturn Return in Libra.

I felt the energy shift as soon as the sun moved into Sagittarius, and only realised later on that that was why I was suddenly finding great pleasure in comedic relief which fits perfectly with the expansive, fun-loving and optimistic energies at the moment.

I'm sure we have all been feeling the stress and weirdness in various ways in the last few weeks as Saturn crawled through the last few degrees of Virgo. Virgo's might have received a final kick, wake-up call or have been through especially difficult times.

Of course it depends on your chart though as a lot of others might have been feeling just as freaked out. But all Saturn in Virgo Returners will be pleased to know that Saturn, as of today, has OFFICIALLY ENTERED LIBRA!

This means your Saturn Return is over for the most part (apart from the retrograde back into Saturn briefly next year - just to check up on us and make sure we're still on the right track), and all of those with Saturn in Libra have officially started their Saturn Return.

Please don't fear it, it is a right of passage and a necessary phase of life in order to readjust your course, values and habits IF you are screeching along on the highway going the wrong way and ignoring that feeling in your gut that things aren't as authentic as they could be. If you are on the right path, expect affirmations from the universe and personally relevant major achievements.

Now Saturn is exalted in Libra, so Saturn is now officially happier than when it was in Virgo. This is good. And this means plenty of especially life-affirming things could happen during this time for you which improves the quality of your life.

Think firmer, more authentic commitments, in love and business, and more voices rallying for social justice. Think more breakdowns of corrupt corporations and shadow-heavy religious figures. It is safe to say that peeps are wigging out on a number of Libra themes at the moment - with the new moon focusing the spotlight on harmony, relationships and relating, money, beauty treatments, putting your best foot forward and trying to get your life balanced again.

Those of you who have Saturn in Libra in your charts will officially begin your Saturn Return at the end of this month. Drum roll!!

More to come soon on concepts to meditate and work on during this time, but for now think of this as an exciting time when things start to crystallise in your life and all the lost causes and deadwood float away.

This is a sacred time in your life astrologically - welcome to the beginning of true adulthood and all the things which this means to you personally.

I have Saturn in Virgo in my chart, so this time wraps up the end of my return (apart from a brief return to Virgo next year) and whilst still feeling like everything in my world has changed and not quite believing where I ended up compared to what my 'plans' were, I realise now that I have come through the shakiest part of the uncertainty and have begun laying foundations for the future.

When I look back on the whirlwind of events now, it all seems like a dream and I feel as though I was moved to make certain surprising and courageous decisions by something higher than myself. I trusted my gut and made radical changes.

I am making peace with growing older. I just turned 30 and I love it.

I love being more still inside myself as opposed to losing balance with frenetic activity.

My boundaries are sharper. I do not want to waste my time on things that are not authentic and I am much happier with quality over quantity in my friendships.

My partner and I have created a solid nest, a stable home foundation in order for us to shine forth from, which is excrutiatingly important for me due to the high levels of insecurity that flavoured the preceding few years when things were in an intense state of readjustment.

I feel like new things are just about to begin - but this time on a more solid and authentic footing.

I have many planets in Libra so the next three years will be very interesting as Saturn crosses over my sun, pluto, venus and mercury all in the 8th house except for Mercury in the 9th. Saturn is exalted in Libra so hopefully plenty of good things to come if I am willing to commit, take responsibility and face my relationship shadow, but it is still Saturn so watch this space.

Differing things are said about Saturn in Libra - such as it will be a time of more traditional marriages vs it will be a time of more breezy and casual arrangements but with a contract of sorts...

This could come along with a huge dose of divorces for anything shaky and on the rocks. Snip, snip and on to more serious and secure relationships for those involved.

Ah Saturn, my good friend, it's almost time to say goodbye

The effects and ramifications of the all pervasive life shifts that take place at the Saturn Return will continue to last for years as you readjust to your new life, but, you might be pleased to know that for all Saturn Return in Virgo peeps, the end of the Return is almost over!

The descent has already begun from the eye of the storm and the last stages take place over the next few months. The trio of eclipses have just ended too, so any last minute sweeping changes you needed to make, or fated situations that needed to arrive, will have or are about to appear.

Saturn leaves Virgo and enters Libra on October 30, 2009 (yes, that is less than 3 months away!)

So either you have had your 3rd and final hit of Saturn or you will have one more hit before October 30, when Saturn passes over your natal Saturn one last time. Yes, it will backtrack into Virgo one last time from April-July 2010, but after that it's back through Libra.

This means that the pressure is off for all Saturn Return in Virgo initiates and also Virgos and Pisces as Saturn going through Virgo has put a huge strain on these signs. Virgo's would have had Saturn going over their Virgo planets - at the very least their Suns - which would have made it an extra hard time for them - but in the middle of all this, when you stand back and look, you will see that you have installed some structure in your life and that you have actually been getting all your ducks in a row, even though there may have been one or two disappointments along the way.

Sometimes crunch time is a good thing for your evolution.

The way forward is better than it was before. It's more real. It's more you. And the foundations are more secure.

So when Saturn enters Libra we will have a whole new bunch of Saturn Return initiates beginning their drastic shifts. Saturn in Libra for all of us will be about balance and fairness in relationships - if your relationship doesn't fall into these categories then expect it to be removed or drastically restructured.

Keep your end of the bargain, be fair, contribute your bit, commit or have the emotional intelligence to know whether to move on. Expect a whole lot of relationship 'restructuring' from the end of October onwards!

Okay so that's one out of 3 eclipses out of the way a la July 7th, clearing the way for the Solar eclipse on July 21/22 at 29 degrees of Cancer.

Since the eclipse is on the Cancer/Capricorn axis, you might be experiencing sudden shifts at home, in your living arrangements or also in your profession and the world out there.

The eclipses take place for me on the 11th/5th house axis and I have been dreaming non-stop about old friends, processing things that took place in the past and trying to come to terms with situations that did not get closure.

All this 11th house clearing out is taking place so that a proper ending for that stage of my life can take place. I feel like a living, breathing computer chip, processing, processing, processing...

It also took place directly conjunct my anti-Vertex, which could bring a fated friendship or encounter into my life.

The July 22 eclipse in Cancer will take place in my 5th house, and I am already firing up my guns in terms of various creative projects.

Laura also talks about things which begin during an eclipse having a "shadow" over them, and that things will be revealed later on that you didn't know were taking place at the time.

Since this next eclipse is in Cancer...anyone feeling broody or had their home 'taken' away from them so they can move to their real 'home'?

Also remember to ground yourself during this time as we are open to all sorts of physical symptoms, the energy is very buzzy. Walk on the grass with bare feet, sit in the park or touch the leaf of a tree. Tres simple.

I recently moved into a new home and thought it was a great time to perform a smudging ritual using sage, cedar and sweetgrass to remove any negative energy the house contained.

I am creating a nest-like space in which to restore oneself in and feel at peace. Lot's of white, beautiful pieces of furniture, not too cluttered, plants to tend, solid and nutritious food.

And of course, lot's of simplicity...aaah. A great remedy for a cluttered Saturn Return headspace.

Sabian Symbols - The essence of the situation

I recently listened to a great podcast interview with Australian astrologer, Lynda Hill, who works deeply with Sabian Symbols.

After reading Hill's book 360 Degrees of Wisdom: Charting Your Destiny With The Sabian Oracle, I have really started to enjoy using the symbols when doing astrological chart interpretations and find that they add a rich further layer to the story in sort of a 'snapshot' type of way.

As Hill explained in her interview, even though the symbols seem simple at first glance, there really are many layers to what they are saying, which comes with knowing how to use them correctly as well as using your intuition a bit more than your exacting chart interpretation skills.

The symbols were channelled in 1925 by Elsie Wheeler, a spiritualist medium, to well-known astrologer Marc Edmund Jones and are a list of 360 "word images" (as Hill calls them), which correspond to the 360 degrees of the zodiac. Essentially, you could look up the exact degree location of any of your planets and read the corresponding interpretation for that degree or simply focus on a question and ask the oracle.

And it's very important to read the degree before and the degree after too, in order to give you a full idea of the situation. Also, if the degree of your planet is for example Scorpio 12 '00, you would read that exact degree, but if your planet was Scorpio 12 '23 for example, you would read the next degree, i.e. Scorpio 13.

This is really important and only when I understood this, did the cards start to make sense to me.

I have found the symbols uncannily correct and frustratingly evasive and complex in their answers at times. I really do think this is because I am just starting to get a handle on them though. I have used them once for someone else when I looked at her chart, and I brought up the symbol for her ascendant and focussed on it a bit - she could not believe how accurate it was in describing something current in her life, which could have been intensified since she had recently ended a Pluto transit over that degree.

SABIAN SYMBOL FOR NATAL SATURN
Okay, so my natal Saturn is Virgo 20 '28, so this means I would read for Virgo 21. I wanted to try and see whether this would shed light on any events that are happening around my Saturn Return. Now this gets complicated because the Sabian Symbol for Virgo 20 - A caravan of cars headed for promised lands - makes a hell of a lot of sense (I did a big move, essentially heading for 'promised lands') and the one for Virgo 21 - A girls' basketball team - leaves me very confused.

It might become only become clear to me in a while, unless this part of my Saturn Return is still to come.

Of course the house where Saturn sits in your natal chart will have huge influence on the types of themes you will face during your Saturn Return. Yes, aspects and transits play a huge role, but the house sets the stage for the play.

My Saturn is in the 7th house, a difficult placement according to many, but luckily I have Jupiter there too to smooth things over somewhat. Themes include father issues, older partners (only before the first Return), only finding true love during the first Saturn Return (which is quite late in life according to many) and plenty of difficult friendships and partnerships. The 'lone wolf' energy is strong and I have definately become more discriminating in the company I keep.

Where is your Saturn and what's going on with you?

I recently found these descriptions of Saturn through the houses, which I found mostly true for my placement and very blunt and to the point. Instead of describing areas in which you may face difficulties, they actually describe the father's traits. Quite interesting.

Apart from these below, here is another pretty good link.

SATURN THROUGH THE SIGNS AND HOUSES

Saturn in Aries or in the First House
This Saturn placement indicates that the father was a leader, an innovator in the child's eyes, and stood apart from everyone else. The child saw the father as one of a kind, a charge‑ahead type who wasn't afraid to take chances. Most likely, he also had a big ego and competed with everyone around him, including the child. Because he had power over the child, he may have succeeded in convincing the child that his or her talents, feelings and ideas weren't important ‑ unless they agreed with dads.
Therefore, the person with Saturn in Aries or the first house often has difficulties with self‑expression. These individuals do not realise that it's okay to be what you are and to express your own views until they reach maturity. Individuals with Saturn in Aries or the first house need reassurance that they are important for themselves having to undo the damage father did. If you are involved with such a person, be aware of this and if you have a child with this planetary position, take care that neither you nor your partner competes with your own child.

Saturn in Taurus or in the Second House
The father was an earthy, affectionate, sensual, and rather lazy person who loved his child, and the relationship between them was probably a good one. However, if the father was materialistic, he either may have tried to buy the child`s love with gifts, or else put too much emphases on money, which taught the child to be miserly. This planetary position does not necessarily mean that this individual will not make money, as might be surmised, but money will be priority in there life. He or she may be obsessed with it, be tight with money. If you are involved with such an individual, you might run into arguments over money. Try not to be financially dependent on your partner and keep your money separate.

Saturn in Gemini or in the Third House
In some way, the father inhibited the child's development of communication skills. The father may have been so talkative that the child couldn't get a word in, or conversely, he may have been so taciturn that the child found it pointless to try to talk to him. The fathers viewpoints may have been limited in scope, and the child grew up to be closed‑minded too. Unless other factors in the chart (such as Sun, Ascendant or Mercury also in Gemini or Sagittarius) offset this influence, individuals with this placement in their charts often don't even try to expand their minds until they reach maturity ‑ if they do it at all. Even if they do have other chart factors which offset the Saturn/Gemini reticence, they might not be as comfortable with communications or mental pursuits as people who don`t have this Saturnian influence. If you are a great believer in intellectual expansion and communication, you probably will find a relationship with this sort of person frustrating. However, you might be able to find the intellectual rapport you need in other friends, and thus enjoy other things about your Saturn/Gemini partner.

Saturn in Cancer or in the Fourth House
At some time in this individual's life the father was absent from the home. There may have been a divorce, or the father may have died or gone away to war. In some cases, the father might not have been physically absent, but he was so ineffectual that he may as well have been. The father probably embraced traditional viewpoints and expected his children to do the same. Perhaps he combined the roles of nurturer and disciplinarian in a strange and confusing way; though he had strong feelings toward his children, he never let them know it, and discouraged them from showing their feelings as well. As a result, such individuals have blocks against any kind of emotional expression, and though they may experience intense emotion, expressing it can be so difficult that doing so makes them physically ill. If you have this planetary placement in your chart, you need to acknowledge and accept your feeling and know that it is okay for you to express them. If you are involved with such a person, encourage him or her to express feelings, but don't be too disappointed if your partner never does. The inhibitions imposed by the father may be too strong.

Saturn in Leo or in the Fifth House
Although artistic himself, the father may have inhibited the child's self‑expression or creativity. He may have belittled the child's efforts so that he or she became unsure and intimidated about expressing talents. The child probably held the father in high esteem and believed him to be an extraordinary person, and was quite proud of him. However, male children especially can find themselves caught up in the "famous father" syndrome, believing that they cannot possibly match father's achievements so why bother to try? Such people need to be made more cognizant of their own abilities and not worry about equalling their fathers'. It is quite possible that these individuals will not realise their talents or make a success of them ‑ until they reach maturity.

Saturn in Virgo or in the Sixth House
The individual may have trouble working for a living. Either the father didn't work, was not always able to work in his own profession, or was forced to perform work that was not of his own choosing.
Though not lazy or unwilling to work, this type of individual feels that certain jobs are beneath him or her and resents it when forced to do such work in order to survive. The person may feel that they (like their father) are compelled to do unfulfilling work, and needs to find a way to escape the treadmill. If you are involved with such a person, you may have to help him or her to find a way to accomplish this. Your own life with that person will be happier if your partner feels more complete.

Saturn in Libra or in the Seventh House
This individual's parents might have been divorced, or they may have been estranged even though they remained married. The father may have expressed a negative attitude towards marriage and/or relationships and therefore, this person is distrustful of them. The individual could have difficulty forming relationships or being happy in the relationships he or she does have ‑ even though marriage and relationships with other people are important to him or her. However, such people are willing to work at their relationships and therefore might make a "career" out of their relationships. They have a tendency though, to stay in bad relationships long after they should have ended them. If you are involved with such a person, you are relatively secure in the relationship, but if you decide at some time that you would be better off apart, you may have to be the one who breaks it off ‑ the Saturn/Libra person will hang on until the bitter end.

The father was a magnetic figure and often his effect on others was overpowering. This person's father probably was an intelligent person whose education was blocked in some way. He may have been idealistic as a young man, but later became disillusioned. Thus, the child either may have rejected the concept of higher thought or rebelled to the point of making it the focal point of his or her life. (This will depend on other factors in the chart). The father may have been an ambitious person, not only for himself, but for his child as well. The father was probably an imaginative individual given to flights of fancy and poetic language, and he may have enjoyed telling stories. The child, too, is imaginative and creative, and may be drawn to the psychic realm, but he or she might become discouraged, fearing that his or her abilities can never match the father's.
