Pluto & The Power of Myth

I have been re-reading The Power of Myth the wonderful book based on the 1980’s TV Series of the same name, which is basically a conversation between mythologist Joseph Campbell and journalist Bill Moyers.

In the book, I came across the following quote from Campbell:

“One thing that comes out in myths is that at the bottom of the abyss comes the voice of salvation. The black moment is when the real message of transformation is going to come. At the darkest moment comes the light.”

These words speak to me as a reflection of the processes symbolised by Pluto in astrology…a message, ultimately, of hope.

Donald Trump – Venus and Saturn Rising

Venus and the Moon can be a nice combination – both are passive and friendly (unlike Jupiter and Mars which can be overbearing). I was talking to one of the regulars here, she mentioned the new people around here and how things have changed. I don’t actually think they’ve changed, it seems more of an illusion to me.

For example, over the weekend the soldier came home after being gone 27 days. Besides that I had a lot of work to do so due this my energy was turned away and off this blog.

When I take my energy off this blog, it does seem to morph. I can see and sense it myself but have what could probably be called no time or interest in doing anything about. Actually, I have no ability either since I’m preoccupied but I do notice it and think to myself that I’d best get back on the job as soon as I can.

Jupiter and the God Gene

I’m a little behind on my newspaper reading so I just read the article by Nicholas Wade in the Times last weekend titled The Evolution of the God Gene. The concept of the “god gene” suggests that the desire to believe in a higher power is wired into the genetic makeup of human beings.

Mr. Wade reports that in the Oaxaca Valley in Mexico archaeologists have uncovered evidence of a transition in religious experience from a simple dance floor for communal religious dances in 7000 b.c.e, through ancestor-cult shrines from 1500 b.c.e, to astronomically sophisticated temples beginning in 30 c.e. Mr. Wade makes the point that religion is found in virtually every society at every stage of development and says that religion has been “wired into our neural circuitry.”

The Sun makes its annual move into Sagittarius today and the sky will have more fire in it than it has had in months, and combined with the planets in air signs, we have the potential for plenty of “hot air.”

The transition from Scorpio to Sagittarius for me is the difference between living in the twelfth house and the first, so this is a pretty big change for me too and probably the reason Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I’m always thankful for the feeling of having escaping into light and warmth once again! Don’t get me wrong, I like Scorpio and am comfortable with the depth and intensity of this often misunderstood sign. It’s just a case of Libra wanting to balance that with some fizzy fire energy once more.
