Lizard is generally considered to be a bad omen in Indian astrology. The reptile represents Ketu (Dragon’s tail or the shadow planet) in Hindu astrology. The lizard’s falling effect on human being is believed to be a bad omen. But depending on the body parts on which it is falling, it forecasts good omen too.

That’s why we always go after a lizard whenever we see it on our home walls in the night or day. The quickest way to drive it out is to make big claps and continue it till it disappears.

Surprisingly, this creature, predicts your good financial progress if you see it on your home wall on Deepawali or Diwali night. It is an acceptable thought in our old scriptures that lizard brings a financial good luck through out the year if you have a darshan of lizard on Diwali night on your home wall.

So, don’t drive it out before this Diwali. But that won’t possible as every householder will undertake a cleansing campaign before Diwali to welcome Lord Ganesh and Goddess Lakshmi on the festival of light.

One fact I also like to mention here that you would feel yourself lucky if you find a lizard crawling on your wall on Diwali night. In 90 per cent cases, lizards hide itself on that very night. May be lizards find the laud booming sound of bursting crackers just unbearable for their health?

God showers Amrit on Sarat Purnima night

Today is Ashawin Shukla Purnima—popularly called as Sarat or Sarad Purnima. In Bengal, the day is celebrated as “Kojagori Lokkhi Puja” (the day to worship Ma Maha Lakshmi-- the Goddess of wealth and money). Coconut laddu (called as Nadu; it is made by mixing fresh coconut crumbs in sugar or gur--raw sugar) holds special significance to get the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.

In Hindu Astrology, the day holds utmost importance. On Sarat Purnima, you can recharge yourself with the pleasant rays of Moon. If your Moon is weak, inflicted or otherwise strong in your horoscope, you can make it strong by doing some simple process.

The planet Moon has broad-spectrum effect on our lives. In Hindu astrology, Moon is mainly termed as mother, water, money and wealth (Lakshmi) and mental state of a native. So a relatively better placed moon in any horoscope is the desire of every native.
It is said, fasting or observing brat (self control) on Purnima day enhances the power of moon and also saves native from its ill effect.

Offering Kheer or Payes (a sweet dish made by rice and milk) to Moon on Purnima night is the best way to appease the planet. Sarat Purnima is the best among the Purnimas we witness in a year.

How to offer it: Make kheer in the evening. Put some kheer in a vessel and offer it to Moon in palace where you get full moon light. Some books say keep the pot for at least 30 minutes in the moon light while others say keep it through out the night so that kheer could absolve more and more rays into it.

Now, you can eat the kheer in the same night or next day. But don’t forget to distribute it among your family members and others. This Kheer is just an Amrit. As our mythology says on Sarat Purnima night, God showers Amrit (nectar) on earth through moon rays.

Benefit: The kheer keeps you and your family healthy through out the year.

Don’t worry if you missed the night this year. Do it in every Purnima night to obtain the benefit.

Get positive energy from Kapoor

Kapoor (camphor) is an essential article in Dev or Devi (God or Goddess) Puja. At initial stage, you need kapoor mix water for achman (offering water with fragrance of camphor to the God) while at the end you do Aarati by burning camphor.

Basically, kapoor (camphor) is a bundle of positive energy. The burning of camphor tablet spreads positive energy in every part of your home.

There is another way to get the positive energy from kapoor. You don’t need to burn it by lighting a match stick if you are not offering Aarati. Take a mosquito mat machine and plug it in. Put a tablet of camphor in it instead of mosquito mat and switch on.

The low temperature heat emanating from the machine coil will burn the kapoor slowly. After a minute or two, the fragrance of kapoor will start spreading all over your room. It will take time to evaporate all the stuff and you will feel afresh for a longer period.

Avoid cutting plants on certain days

Unwanted growth of plants, grass and weeds has always been a problem for every garden. Everyone wants to remove them as soon as possible. But the Hindu mythology specifies certain days the cutting of plants, grass or weeds are forbidden. You will invite dohsa (trouble for wrong doing) if you don’t go by the principle.

The prohibited days are; Sankranti (the day Sun changes Rashi), Grahan (solar or lunar eclipse), Purnima (full moon) and Amavasya (new moon).

Avoid the days and enjoy happy life.
