HP brings new laptops with Windows 8

We previously saw HP's big flagship Windows 8 products, the Envy Spectre XT Touchsmart ultrabook and the Envy X2, and now HP is ready to reveal a handful of its more traditional laptops. Like virtually every other Windows 8 laptop we've seen, these are due alongside Microsoft's new operating system in on October 26.

HP Envy m4

This mobile-minded addition to the growing Envy family has a brushed aluminum design, current-gen Intel Core i-series processors, and a 14-inch display. Options include a backlit keyboard and Intel's Wireless Display. Like all of the Envy laptops, and a growing number of Pavilion models, there's a Beats Audio system, which in this case includes two stereo speakers and a separate subwoofer. Keeping with the premium feel of the Envy line, the m4 starts at $899.

HP Pavilion Sleekbook 14 and 15

HP's Pavilion laptops are getting slimmer and faster, with mainstream parts and designs that are at least in the same ballpark as the more expensive Envy models (as we saw with the recent Pavilion m6). These new 14 and 15-inch models, in the brief look we had at them, offered few surprises for a budget/mainstream laptop line, but discrete Nvidia graphics are an option in the Intel-powered 15-inch version, while the 14-inch Sleekbook has an AMD CPU/GPU. The Sleekbook 14 will start at $499, and the Sleekbook 15 at $559.

The Graduate Record Examination, which is abbreviated as GRE, can be defined as a standardized test, which includes the admission requirement for the graduate schools in the United States principally, and some other English speaking countries. The GRE - Graduate Record Examination has been created as well as is being administered by the Educational Testing Service (popular as ETS). This exam primarily focuses on testing the abstract thinking skills of the students. The areas that are covered include vocabulary, math and analytical writing.
GRE Exam

The GRE - Graduate Record Examination is a computer-based exam. The test is conducted by the select qualified testing centers in different parts of the world. However, those places (like Juneau, Alaska etc.) which still lack the proper technological requirements, are allowed paper-based exams.
During the process of graduate school admissions, the emphasis level upon the GRE scores varies between schools. It can also vary between the several departments within the same school. :

* The scores of verbal and the quantitative tests each are between 200-800. A scale of 0 - 6 is used to keep the scores of the analytical writing test which are incremented by ½-point. * For admission to graduate school, the scores on the verbal and quantitative sections (excluding the Subject Test), matter the most. For admission to doctoral programs, it is important to score at least 550 on each test. Master's programs are comparatively less competitive, so, scoring between 450-500 on each of the tests can be considered just fine. A score above 450 is expected for entry in any of the colleges.
* Registration is compulsory for taking the GRE. There are separate testing sites in each state. For the General test, you should register well ahead of time to get your choice of dates for the test. For the Subject Test, you will need to register in an advance of at least six weeks.
* Online registration can be done. Registration by mail is also another way. You need to fill up the registration form in the GRE Information and Registration Bulletin. The registration bulletin can be obtained from GRE- Online or by writing to: GRE, CN 6000, Princeton, NJ 08541-6000. * Registration is compulsory for taking the GRE. There are separate testing sites in each state. For the General test, you should register well ahead of time to get your choice of dates for the test. For the Subject Test, you will need to register in an advance of at least six weeks.
* Online registration can be done. Registration by mail is also another way. You need to fill up the registration form in the GRE Information and Registration Bulletin. The registration bulletin can be obtained from GRE- Online or by writing to: GRE, CN 6000, Princeton, NJ 08541-6000.

GRE Preparation

* To ensure a higher grade in GRE, it is very important to prepare yourself thoroughly.
* Get hold of review books and plan a systematic method of study, which will help you in brushing your skills in areas of vocabulary, analogies, reading comprehension, geometry and algebra.
* Cramming is no way to crack a GRE - Graduate Record Examination, all you need is time. It is advisable to start your preparation much before your registration.
* Planning the General Test in November is a wise decision, which will ensure your scores will be available well on time to meet any deadline during the admissions. Again, if you lose out, on the first trial, you will have sufficient time to re-take the test in December.

The Common Admission Test CAT score is used to shortlist candidates for admissions to the IIMs (Indian Institute of Management). In addition to the IIMs, there are over 75 other management institutes across India accepting CAT scores for selection of candidates.

CAT is one of the most competitive and unpredictable of all the MBA entrance tests and its main objective is to challenge the aptitude of the candidates. The IIMs accepting CAT score include IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, IIM Indore and IIM Kozhikode. Overview of CAT

The CAT test paper covers questions in five broad areas, which include data interpretation, logical reasoning, verbal ability and reasoning, reading comprehension and quantitative skills. Common Admission Test assesses the presence of mind of a candidate and his/ her ability to perform under pressure.

CAT Papers Pattern

The CAT question paper has four different segments, namely, Verbal Ability, Reading Comprehension, Problem Solving and Data Interpretation. These multiple choices questions and are required to be answered only with a HB pencil on a computer coded OMR answer sheet. For each incorrect answer you get negative marks. Every year, the IIMs change the question pattern to prevent predictability. You should therefore have a deeper understanding of concepts and their applications to succeed in the CAT. Those who are preparing to study in any of the reputed MBA institutes in India, they are well aware of the Common Admission Test, better known as CAT. This is a test held annually for the admission to the Post-graduate and Fellow Programs in management courses of several management institutes in India. This is a written examination organized by the IIM and it is on the basis of CAT result that the eligible candidates are short listed and called for a Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

CAT is considered to be a major requirement for a candidate seeking admission to the prestigious management institutes of India. The percentile secured in CAT is assessed by the B-Schools in India for short-listing candidates for admissions to their various MBA Programs.

CAT has become one of the most competitive exams to judge the potential of the candidates willing to pursue their career in business administration.

CAT Eligibility Criteria

:

For applying to the CAT 2010, a candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ ST or Persons with Disability], of any of the Universities or Institutes recognized by the UGC or the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must be of minimum three years duration after completing Higher Secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent. Candidates in their final year of graduation/ equivalent qualification and those who have completed the exams and are awaiting results are also eligible for the CAT 2010. Discipline is very important. Plan your preparation, maintain a fixed schedule and stick to it. There are three basic areas which arc tested in the MBA entrance exams.
They are verbal ability, quantitative ability and data interpretation and logical reasoning For verbal ability, read a lot. Since reading comprehension is an important part of this section, try speed reading (you have to train how to read and comprehend fast)
For quantitative ability it is most important to get your basic concepts right. Solve questions on arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, mensuration etc from the Class X books of CBSE and ICSE boards. For the data interpretation and logical reasoning sections, refer to well known CAT preparation books from TATA McGraw Hill. R S Agarwal, S Chand. Pearson Education, etc.
You should also solve crossword and sudoku puzzles every day as this will improve your accuracy and aptitude. After you gain some confidence with your preparation, you can join lest series so that you get an idea about your current level of preparation.
As far as QA is concerned, algebra and geometry should be given the maximum priority. They should cover more than 50 percent of the paper. Give algebra 15 days and geometry six to seven days. Do them at a stretch. You have to spare some time doing three to four DI sets even,’ day. That would definitely push the comfort level in this area to a far more satisfying level.

What is IIM's CAT (Common Admission Test) all about?

CAT - The Common Admission Test to the six IIMs is also the entrance test for few other top B-Schools such as SP Jain, MICA, and T A Pai. CAT tests your skills in five broad areas viz

The test comprised 90 questions divided into 3 sections in the year 2005. Typically this test can be expected to comprise between 75 to 150 objective type questions and is usually divided into three to four sections. Each question has a question statement followed by four alternate answer choices and the candidate has to choose the best answer for each of the questions and mark it on a special Optical Reader answer sheet.

Over the years, the number of questions being asked in CAT has been decreasing steadily. While the early 90s witnessed 180 to 200 questions, the late 90s, specifically CAT 1999 and CAT 2000 had 165 questions each. CAT 2001, CAT 2002 and CAT 2003 had only 150 questions each and these 150 questions were divided into three sections of 50 questions each. There were 123 questions in CAT 2004 and only 90 in CAT 2005. CAT 2004 and CAT 2005 both had differential marks to questions. There were 0.5 marks, 1 mark and 2 marks questions.

The duration of the test is of 120 minutes. This literally translates to answering a CAT question in 48 seconds. Most successful aspirants do not attempt anything more than 120 plus questions. And quite a lot of them attempt between 70 and 90 marks worth of questions. The key to success, therefore, lies in two important parameters

1. The accuracy or strike rate

While each correct answer carries 0.5 or 1 or 2 positive mark, each incorrect question carries 1/3rd of the marks allocated to it as negative marks. Hence, it is important to get a strike rate of over 85% - that is reduce the number of negatives.

2. Smart Selection

World Fastest Skateboarding Dog in Guinness Book of World Records

Tillman, the California bulldog who has been recognized as the world’s fastest skateboarding canine, is visiting New York for Saturday’s “Bark in the Park” — an event where Mets fans can attend a game with their dog.

“He loves New York,” Tillman’s owner, 40-year-old Ron Davis told the Daily News as the bulldog showed off his skills in Tompkins Square Park. “There is a lot of concrete for him to do his thing.”

The four-year-old, 60-pound English bulldog — deemed the fastest skateboarding dog by the Guinness Book of World Records — set the world record in 2009 by rolling 100 meters in 19.6 seconds.

He’s named after the late NFL star and U.S. Army Ranger Pat Tillman.

The fast-rolling bulldog will be among the canines attending the Bark in the Park game at Citi Field, in which the Mets play the Atlanta Braves.

For the event — the successor to “Dog Day at Shea” — the Mets set a limit of 500 dogs, and doggie tickets usually sell out quickly. Human tickets are $40 and doggy tickets are $10.

Profits from the sale of dog tickets and a portion of the human ticket benefit the North Shore Animal League.

Kiwi 's William Trubridge sets world record diving 116m without fins

New Zealand free diver William Trubridge battled the effects of narcosis to set a new world record in the Bahamas, diving to 116m without fins.
At great depths divers can suffer from nitrogen narcosis which produces a state similar to being drunk.
Diving in the Vertical Blue competition at Dean's Blue Hole, Long Island, the 29-year-old dived next to a vertical line using a form of breaststroke and spent 4 minutes 9 seconds under water, surfacing with a tag from the 116m mark.
The free-diving event runs until April 27.

When you first buy a new computer, it runs very smooth and fast. But later on we notice that it has become slow and freezes. Let me share my personal experience . One month ago, my PC was working all fine. After that I had to install many new software for some reason. Then, I realised that Windows startup took way too much time. So I decided to search what may be the cause.

Why does it actually happen?

It’s because of the temporary files and garbage registry values added to the system through various ways like installing new software, adding and deleting files from hard disk, downloading items from internet.
So here, I am sharing 6 basic steps to get your PC running faster and smoother.

#1. Remove unwanted software

Go to control panel.
Then add/remove programs.
Now uninstall the software which you don’t need.

2. Update Antivirus Software

Update the antivirus software you have on your PC regularly.
Then perform a full system scan so as to remove all the malware from your system.

3. Check when you need to use Disk Fragmenter

Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter.
Analyse each of the partitions (by right-clicking on each of the drives and selecting analyse).
Defragment the ones which requires defragmentation as shown by the message.

4. Delete Temporary files

Go to start->run.
Then enter “%temp%” (without quotes) and hit enter.
A windows comes up. Select and delete all the files in it. (I had around 200 files in it).

#5. Delete Prefetch files

Then enter “prefetch” (without quotes) and hit enter.
Now select all files and delete them.(I deleted all my 60 files).

#6. Deal with Registry Errors

Download CCleaner software from http://www.ccleaner.com/
and install it.
Now open CCleaner and go to registry.

CCLEANER

Then click on “scan for issues”. Wait till the scanning is complete.

A list of many registry errors will come up.
Select all the issues. Now click on “fix selected issues”.
and then confirm it.

So now our registry garbage is also cleaned.
Finally, restart your PC and notice the changes in terms of speed yourself.
I noticed a tremendous change following these steps. Now, my PC is 10 times much faster than before.
