41st Annual Exhibition- Opening May 21st 2019

On Tuesday, 21st of May, the Athy Art Group will hold the opening of its 41st Annual Art Exhibition in the GAA Hall, Dublin Road at 8 pm. Honoured to have Suzanne MacDougald officially open the exhibition, all are welcome to what promises to be a wonderful night.

The Athy Art Group started after the success of an art competition and exhibition organised by members of the youth group, Aontas Ogra, in 1970. The exhibition was such as success that, instead of only holding an exhibition every year, the Athy Art Group was formed to organise exhibitions, classes, and workshops throughout the year.

Still going strong after 41 years, the art group is somewhat unique in that they give all their members an equal opportunity to exhibit, regardless of whether they are a beginner amateur artist or a seasoned professional artist.

We are opening our 40th Annual Exhibition on 22nd May 2018. Please note the earlier dates for this year. We are honored and delighted to have RTÉ's Ray D'Arcy opening the exhibition. Our video from last year gives a flavour of what our exhibition is-

The exhibition is opening Tuesday 22nd May 2018 and will open Wednesday 23rd to Saturday 26th May 2-5pm and 7-9pm each day. Sunday is the last day of the exhibition and we'll be open from 2pm until the exhibition closes at 6pm.

Exhibition 2016

Our 2016 Exhibition began on Tuesday June 28th and was opened by Chairperson of Athy Arts Committee, Brid Brophy. The exhibition ran until Sunday 3rd July and was really well attended all week.

We had three demonstrations during the week, a charcoal demonstration by Leonard Gallagher, an oil painting demonstration by Liam Rainsford and a second oil painting demonstration by John Fitzpatrick.

The Athy Art Group would like to thank all the visitors and patrons of the exhibition and we will be back next year.

If you are interested in becoming a member of Athy Art Group, please contact us. New members need to be a resident of Athy and surrounding area, and be over 18. Membership fees are €20 and €10 for OAPs/Students/unwaged.

AGM 2016

We had AGM on the 27th April. We had great attendance and we went through last years exhibition and our upcoming exhibition. We will be taking in the art on Sunday 26th June 2016 and our opening night is Tuesday 28th June 2016.

We elected a new committee, Ber Rowan is our new chairperson, Denis Smyth is our Vice-Chairperson, Liam Rainsford as Treasurer and John Rainsford as Secretary.

We are having three informal get-togethers in the lead up to our exhibition, in the Athy GAA Hall on Wednesday 18th May, Wednesday 1st June and Wednesday 15th June. All nights will be from 7.30pm to 9.30pm and will allow members and non-members to meet up in an informal setting. Feel free to bring your paints, or finished pieces to show other members.

Membership forms for 2016 will be produced soon.

36th Annual Exhibition

The Athy Art Group's 36th Annual Exhibition is opening tonight, Tuesday 24th June from 8pm.

The Official Opening is at 8.30pm by Mr Clem Ryan of KFM Radio. All are welcome.

The Exhibition will be open from 2-5pm and 7-9pm Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week.

The Exhibition will be also open from 2-5pm on Sunday. The Exhibition will be finished at 5pm on Sunday.

AGM 2014

The Athy Art Group AGM was held on Tuesday 25th February 2014 at 8pm, in the Clanard Court Hotel, Athy.

We had a strong turn out from members, and a new committee was elected. Denis Smyth is our new Chairperson, with Ber Rowan elected as Vice-Chairperson. John Rainsford took the role of Secretary and Liam Rainsford remained as Treasurer.

The Athy Art Group Annual Exhibition will open on Tuesday 24th June, 2014. More information will be posted soon.

35th Annual Exhibition 2013

The Athy Art Group's 35th Annual Exhibition is opening tonight, Tuesday 25th June from 8pm.

The Official Opening is at 8.30pm by Dr. John Macdougald. All are welcome.

The Exhibition will be open from 2-5pm and 7-9pm Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week. The Exhibition will be also open from 2-5pm on Sunday. The Exhibition will be finished at 5pm on Sunday.

AGM 2013

Athy Art Group had it's AGM last Wednesday, 6th February. The turnout was excellent and the committee for 2013 was elected. John Rainsford was re-elected as Chairman, Frances Wortley was re-elected as Secretary and Liam Rainsford was re-elected as Treasurer.

Our 2013 Exhibition will open Tuesday 25th June 2013 and more information can be found here.

Athy Art Group had it's AGM last Wednesday, 7th March. It was well attended and the committee for 2012 was elected. John Rainsford was elected Chairman, Frances Wortley was elected as Secretary and Liam Rainsford was elected as Treasurer.

The Athy Art Group's Annual Exhibition will open Tuesday 26th June 2012 and will be returning to the Athy GAA Hall. If you would like to become a member of the Athy Art Group, you must be living in the Athy area and you can apply for membership forms here.

Athy Art Group Exhibition 2011

Our 2011 Exhibition was opened on Tuesday night and was a resounding success. Our exhibition hall was packed with visitors and our special guest, the 2010 Rose of Tralee, Ms Clare Kambamettu, opened our exhibition. The Athy Art Group is incredibly grateful to Clare for giving her time to open our exhibition and made this year's opening night a very special occasion.

One of our founding members, Liam Rainsford, has been busy in the lead up to this year's exhibition. Not only has he been painting a fine selection of oil paintings, he has also been writing about his techniques on his blog and recording tutorial videos for YouTube.

Liam is a long time oil painting instructor, giving many oil painting classes and demonstrations for Athy Art Group through the years. If you are interested in taking up oil painting or wish to improve upon your oil painting, this is a great resource to have.

Art Exhibition One Week Away!

We're finalising all the tiny details for our 33rd Annual Exhibition, opening next Tuesday night, the 7th June 2011. We should easily have about 200 pieces of art exhibited for the week, until Sunday 12th June.
We'll be posting a full artist list shortly, with all our exhibiting artists.

Art Exhibition 2011 preparation

We have started our preparation for our Annual Exhibition in June already. Our new forms are being printed and should be sent out by Friday of this week. They will be available online, here, shortly after that.

We started a trend in 2009, where we choose a colour for the exhibition and use this throughout our website and printed material. You may have noticed on our website, but if not our colour theme this year is blue. 2010 was green and 2009 was pink.
