Time is running out to be able to see the 2009 Atlanta Holiday House as it is only open through December 20th. And, according to the reviews from local media, this is a home you do not want to miss. The general consensus is that the house is the “the most stunning show home ever built!” What a claim! Can you imagine what this home must look like in order to draw that kind of a response?

Well, considering the house is the collaborative effort of 25 of Atlanta’s top designers, it’s no wonder that it is impressing visitors. The house is 22,000 square feet of exceptional architecture and was built by Atlanta custom builder Steve West. With your ticket, you will be given access to every room of the house, each with its own unique flair. Unfortunately, the website has no pictures of the home, so there is no way to see it other than paying a visit in person.

You can purchase tickets in advance for $20 or at the door for $25. All proceeds from the Holiday House will go to Save a Smile Foundation benefiting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and other premier medical entities specializing in the treatment of cleft lip and cleft palate birth defects. For everyone that is hosting family and friends this holiday season, you need to be more than the source of food, you must also be the source of entertainment. Playing host/hostess during the holidays is no easy feat, but thankfully, we live in Atlanta where there are a myriad of options for keeping out of town guests busy and happy.

Central Atlanta Progress (CAP) is happy to present Downtown Holiday Adventure, which is 50 Days of Family Fun during the holiday season. What types of things are included in the 50 Days of Family Fun? Well, of course catching a performance of the Nutcracker from the Atlanta Ballet, which is a 50 year tradition in Atlanta now. Other things like bringing the family to visit the Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coke. Or, having the opportunity to ice skate outdoors in Centennial Park even though we don’t exactly have snow or freezing weather. There are also many different holiday concerts and plays. Visit the museums or take a trolley tour, so much to do!

Participating restaurants include Atkins Park, D.B.A Barbecue, MetroFresh, Shorty's Pizza, Rosebud, Bella Cucina, Whole Foods, Murphy's, El Taco and La Tavola. All proceeds benefit Highland Park - the new neighborhood green space at North Highland and Saint Charles.

Anyone who lived in Forest Park knew about this house. A friend on Facebook created a memoir of the house....take a stroll down memory lane with me as I remember the "North Avenue Christmas House."

The 17th annual Avondale Estates Christmas Tour of Homes, sponsored by the Avondale Community Club, will take place on Sunday, December 13 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm. The tour features eight homes that have been sensitively restored or renovated to preserve the character of our historic city. Other points of interest on the tour are a “summer cottage dressed for Christmas” and the sanctuary at the Avondale Baptist Church showcasing its members’ nativity scenes.

Before touring the homes, be sure to come by the Holiday Market & Cafe at the Avondale Community Club (59 Lakeshore Drive) and hopefully, find the perfect gift for everyone on your list. An autographed book signed by one of Avondale's award winning authors may be just the thing. Other items you won’t want to miss include Grits Bits, art, soaps, lotions, jewelry, bottle stoppers, doggie treats, bird houses and much more. While you shop, enjoy some delicious soup and hot apple cider at the Market Café.

Nearly everyone in town participates in the tour and market either by opening their homes, decorating the city, volunteering as hosts and hostesses, playing music in the homes , creating something for the market, sponsoring the tour as corporate sponsors or as Christmas “angels,” or just enjoying touring the homes.

Tickets may be purchased for $12 in advance at Avondale Antiques, Avondale City Hall, Finders Keepers Furniture, REAL Salon and Seventeen Steps or for $15 on the day of the tour at the Avondale Community Club. Emory-Adventist Hospital at Smyrna will hold its 8th annual Holiday Home Tour, Sunday, December 6th from noon to 6:00 p.m. The tour features incredible homes in the Smyrna Vinings community. Each home will be decorated for the holiday season, highlighting the talents of local designers and decorators. The tour is sponsored by the Foundation of Emory-Adventist Hospital at Smyrna.

Proceeds from the annual Holiday Home Tours go to benefit the programs and projects of The Foundation of Emory-Adventist Hospital.

Admission is $20 per person. The ticket provides admission to the tour of homes, as well as a tearoom and auction at The Community Bank of the South. You may purchase tickets by calling 770-319-2025. Tickets are also available at Karen’s Gifts and Love Street Antiques, located in Smyrna.
