The Fall and Rise of Public Transport in Auckland - a New Zealand success story?

Councillor Mike Lee

Auckland City Council

6.30pm - Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

Mike Lee will review the history of public transport in Auckland - from the mid-1950s up to the present day and reveal some surprising facts. Suitably, NZ Government and the NZRugby Union decided the best result would be to have a stadium that <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/AucklandInfrastructure/~4/zNAK9hOunMk" height="1" width="1"/>

Where are you????? Had a couple of emails asking where I was...

Due to work commitments I haven't been in Auckland a hell of a lot recently. Mostly my time has actually been spent in Wellington, and I can truly say, the weather was quite windy.

The great thing about Wellington is, buses buses and more buses. Traveling on them has been very easy, using my Hop Card <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/AucklandInfrastructure/~4/X28sCi4NCik" height="1" width="1"/>

Hop, Auckland Transport Card

It's expanding to all NZBus Buses on Monday the 6th of June, BTW thats next week!

From June 6th - Metrolink, Link, Waka Pacific, Go West and North Star

So lets Hop on Tag on Tag off and Hop off...

Whatever you want to call it, the roll out so far has been pretty smooth. There are still those niggling problems, which is not unexpected with such a big project.

Today is the first day you can use your Hop on Waka Pacific, and Go West buses.

It will be interesting to see how it works tomorrow on a business day, this will be a real test for NZ bus, as allot of the routes are also serviced by Metrolink which doesn't switch till 6th June.

I picked up my Hop Card today, costing $10 plus the top-up. I only call this Graffiti, as I seriously have no other words to explain it. This is seriously lacking any originality, artistic ability, or anything valuable other than leaving us tax and rate paying people a bill. Some graffiti adds character to our streets but this is just dribble that means nothing.
