The Audi RS3 Sportback is an absolute animal even in standard trim, largely due its 5-cylinder, turbocharged engine offering 340bhp and 332lb-ft torque. Although the Audi Quattro chassis makes good use of its power, there’s still much more potential to be had from the RS, and KW automotive has already developed three coilover systems which release this car’s true handling capability!</p>
<p>For the mor street-orientated driver, KW’s Variant 3+ ‘inox-line’ coilover kit greatly improves handling (as well as reducing the RS3’s tendency to understeer) without sacrificing the ride quality. KW has paid particular attention to the low-speed damping range which improves steering feel, and offers the Variant 3+ with a total of 16 levels of damping adjustment as well as height adjustment between 5-35mm (fron) and 0-25mm (rear). The compression stage of each coilover can also be independently adjusted for the more serious driver. This kit not only improves the overall handling of the RS3 Sportback, but also makes it even easier to control when driving on the limit!</p>
<p>For the more track-focused driver, KW Clubsport kit is available in both 2-way and 3-way adjustment. Tailored specifically for track use with racing springs and high-performance dampers, KW’s Clubsport coilovers are fine tuned on the Nürburgring for maximum performance. The Clubsport’s track-focused damper system features a separate expansion tank to allow independent adjustment of compression in both high-speed (14 levels) and low-speed (six levels) driving. KW has noticed damping compression influences the RS3’s handling greatly, with a tougher low-speed setting giving a more direct steering feel while a tougher high-speed range improves the RS3’s ability to ride over bumps and kerbs at high speed. Just like the Variant 3+, the KW Clubsport 2-way and 3-way is also height adjustable by 5-35mm (front) and 0-25mm (rear).</p>

<p>Despite its immense circuit ability, KW’s Clubsport coilover remains TÜV approved allowing the RS3 to be driven to and from circuits with ease. Additionally, the KW 3-way Clubsport Suspension comes supplied with preassembled aluminium uniball strut mounts which are also adjustable and which allow optimum fine-tuning for various sports tires and tracks. The A5 is a fast coupe and a comfortable travel companion to begin with. But in its ABT Sportsline version this extravagant car is even more sporty. The latest edition of the ABT AS5 combines a precise and harmonious design with dynamic technology. “For us, it was important to combine this car’s extraordinary design with our ideas and thus to underscore the car’s character. Its increased performance and its body parts form a unit”, says Hans-Jürgen Abt. The traditional Bavarian company’s managing director is very excited about this automobile. “If you look at the AS5, you want to take in every inch of its marvellous silhouette, and if you sit in it, all you want is to get it on the road. This coupé is really a power pack.“</p>
<p>This sports car in its “tailor-made suit” is so much fun to drive because it has undergone a real ABT Sportsline treatment. The car is always assertive and second to none: ABT POWER turns the 3.0l diesel engine from its original 245 hp (180 kW) to a torquey 300 hp (221 kW). For the 2.0 TFSI, it is a dynamic 270 hp or 199 kW (original version: 211 hp/155 kW). Other engine variants are being developed and will be presented at a later stage. </p>

<p>To be sure, this additional  ABT POWER also has to be put on the road. So a lowered suspension has been geared to the AS5, which make for a very effective lowering of the car’s centre of gravity – in visual terms, too. This is part of the overall design concept. Front spoiler, side skirts, fender inserts, rear skirt insert, rear spoiler and the typical four-pipe exhaust system make the chic ABT appear unobtrusively assertive from wherever you look at it. As an ideal complementary feature, ABT recommends the CR Silverlight or DR alloy wheels. Depending upon your taste, they will underscore either the new ABT AS5’s sportiness or its elegance. And in visual terms they are fully in line with the sport braking system, which is available with discs of 345 or 380mm in diameter.</p>
<p>The new ABT AS5 has been developed by the globally largest tuner of cars produced by the Volkswagen Group, with its designers and engineers making no compromises. After all, what driver of this unique coupe would want to make compromises? “They want a maximum of automotive sophistication, dynamism, roadworthiness, design and assertiveness”, Hans-Jürgen Abt says. So the new AS5 is a benchmark five times over!</p>

Italian brake manufacturer Tarox has just announced the launch of its extensive Carbon Ceramic ultra-high performance braking range. The new discs draw heavily on Tarox’s extensive motorsport experience - which goes all the way up to F1 level.</p>
<p>The new parts are aimed at two markets. Firstly, as superior performing, cost-effective replacements for vehicles that were factory fitted with CC discs, and secondly, to be combined with Tarox calipers as the ultimate motorsport fitment for teams looking for unparalled performance combined with extended durability and heat handling capability.</p>
<p>TAROX Carbon Ceramic brakes offer significantly greater retardation over a wide heat range, thanks to their unique construction. The discs feature a continuous monolithic fibre structure which avoids the need of a specified layer of friction material. This construction method provides a far stronger disc structure as well as offering the added benefit that the disc can be resurfaced and reused.</p>

<p>Most commercially available carbon ceramic discs are of a two part moulded cut fibre structure featuring a ‘core’ and a ‘friction surface’. The core is usually a lesser material with typically, a 0.5mm bonded layer of friction material bonded on top.   </p>
<p>However, the continuous fibre monolithic structure of the TAROX carbon ceramic discs equates to a higher thermal conductivity, allowing the brake rotor to achieve lower bulk temperatures during a braking application. The cooler running temperatures directly lower the oxidation rate of the disc improving its lifespan. This also benefits the lifespan of the brake pad.</p>
<p>The rate of wear on Carbon Ceramic discs is determined by oxidation - a process that occurs at high temperature when the rotor is exposed to the air around it. Oxidation levels are measured in terms of weight loss and surface texture. The disc surface will begin to feel rough with the onset of oxidation.</p>
<p><strong>Due to the superior design structure, when compared to a typical composite ceramic disc the TAROX discs are 43% stronger when destruction tested back to back.</strong></p>

<p>The range launches with 23 fitments, covering outside diameters from 283mm right up to 420mm and features a wide range of thicknesses from 26mm to 40mm. In other words, almost all commercially required sizes.</p>

Diesel engines, formerly the preferred engines for large and small vehicles, have long since been at home under the bonnet of luxury limousines and trendy SUVs. Powered by voluminous self-ignition engines, these cars glide smoothly along the spacious boulevards and park in front of opera houses, art galleries and boutiques. Often, the owner is sitting in the back, with a chauffeur at the wheel. And he has every right to be happy. As a rule, he has at his disposal torque that produces irresistible power delivery even at an engine speed significantly lower than 2,000 rpm, thus confirming the theory that you can get “a lot of power out of a low engine speed”</p>
<p>And then there is MTM, the maker of exclusively equipped cars – mostly Audis and Volkswagen. Managed by Roland Mayer, owner of the company, MTM engineers have got to work on the 4.2 litre TDI that is deployed in the A8, as well as in the Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg. By no means weak with 350 HP, but with enough potential for much more power at a low engine speed as well at the upper end of the rev range.</p>
<p>Tried and tested methods are used to increase power: standard engine management is out, MTM systems are in. When a V-Cantronic is deployed in the A8, it is true that performance remains the same at 350 HP, but the high speed of the saloon is no longer abruptly suppressed at 250 kph. The limit doesn’t kick in until 282 kph. This version only comes with the A8. It takes a good two hours of skilled workmanship and is available at less than € 1,400.</p>

<p>Those who want to compete in the Champions League with their V8 TDI can get themselves into the top division of the engine speed league for just under € 1,800. As well as 410 HP, the MTM high-tech laboratory gives you 930 Nm of torque – for a hold that could rip up paving stones.</p>
<p>No less powerful, but around €100 cheaper, is the MTM version that uses an M-Cantronic. Those who are looking for more than the top class power output of 930 Nm, however, are catered for by MTM with a combination of the M-Cantronic and V-Cantronic, which slow down the engine speed limitation at 250 kph. This additional “powerhouse doping” costs less than €2,700 and is only available for the A8.</p>
<p>For all versions, a beauty and safety concept in line with the company style is available: wheel rims, brakes, exhaust systems and chassis components which coupled together with the A8, Q7 or the Touareg make for an imposing ensemble. Then you are ahead of the field on the road but not the first at the fuel station.</p>

<p><strong>Perfect integration in the AUDI A4</strong></p>
<p>Radically simpler integration in the specific target vehicle is what distinguishes the E>GO series: instead of compromises, a specifically designed, perfect system solution. The ZE-NC3141D is visually and technically tailored to the AUDI A4 (B7), and not only because of its construction and the red button illumination. Like every E>GO model, it is no problem at all to integrate it in the radio slot of the target vehicle – no need for additional bezels or adapters. The ZE-NC3141D is linked to the factory installed steering wheel remote controls via the vehicle-specific CAN bus. That’s it – all A/V sources (radio, CD/DVD, MP3, USB) and the hands-free function can be controlled as usual via the steering wheel remote control. The driver information system (FIS) is linked to the E>GO via the CAN bus interface. The display of radio and audio information is then supported.</p>
<p><strong>High performance navigation system</strong></p>
<p>The ZE-NC3141D navigation section offers a fistful of functions. High resolution maps of 43 European countries with Premium POIs, integrated TMC/TMC Pro receiver, Text-to-Speech announcement of street names and the many nav functions make this E>GO the perfect navigator. Naturally, thanks to the Latest Map Guarantee, all your nav data is always kept updated.</p>
<p>The detailed 3D HD rendering of terrain, points of interest and buildings shows the environment as it really is – three dimensional – and helps orientation, especially in big cities. Thanks to realistic displays of freeway interchanges and exits, lane changing and leaving the freeway become even simpler.</p>
<p>For the new E>GO generation, the function package has been substantially expanded. The newly implemented Quick menu gives lightning-fast access to all functions – even making the search for points of interest very much simpler. Shorter and more economic routes can be planned using the Smart or Eco modes of route calculation. In addition, traffic information and advisories are displayed when crossing EU borders, and you receive visual and acoustic speed warnings if the permitted speed limit is exceeded.</p>
<p>With the new E>GO you can import Outlook data using Toolbox and use it for navigation. Updates and additional POIs can easily be downloaded from the Naviextras online portal www.zenec.naviextras.com and installed via USB.</p>
<p><strong>In the centre − the user</strong></p>
<p>Ease of operation also achieves a new level with Zenec’s new E>GO generation. The clearly structured menus of the newly designed GUIs are self-explanatory and intuitive to use. Large control fields and logically structured navigation ensure that the ZE-NC3141D can also be controlled in safety when you are driving. The touch slide function lets you surf through the menus with ease. The features appearing on the navigation main menu can be placed in different positions by dragging. Another very user-friendly feature is the export and import of user settings function: these can be saved on a USB stick and reloaded later.</p>

<p>The Bluetooth suite of the ZE-NC3141D comes from Parrot, leading supplier of hands-free systems worldwide and guarantor for comfortable call handling. With the new search function (up to 15 letters), it is now even simpler to find an entry in large phone books. The Quick-Dial menu allows direct access to five favorite contacts that are easy to edit.</p>
<p>But Parrot also stands for excellent speech quality – either using the integrated microphone or the multi-directional, freely positionable, external microphone supplied. Congratulations! With the launch of its very latest version, the Audi A4 turns 40! This means a full four decades of success, first for the Audi 80, then for the A4 – and ABT has been part of this success from the very beginning. “The A4 is an important car for us, too. It always re-defines the premium standard for medium-sized cars,” says Hans-Jürgen Abt. The renowned Bavarian tuning company’s CEO is proud to be able to present the new ABT AS4 on the occasion of the series model’s fortieth anniversary: “Our AS4 is definitely state-of-the-art. It combines sportiness and assertiveness,” Hans-Jürgen Abt explains. The AS4 is a most dependable car in every situation. But it also means sheer pleasure!</p>
<p>In terms of better performance, ABT Sportsline always provides balanced packages that are fully geared to the respective car and the requirements of the owner. An ABT is always a dynamic vehicle, and for its whole life at that! And what the engineers came up with for the new AS4 has been mercilessly endurance-tested, of course. The figures read as follows. ABT POWER lends the top model 435 hp (320 kW), up from the original V6 petrol engine’s 333 hp (245 kW): this fast ABT only needs 4.8 seconds to go to 100 km/h from a standstill and is very torquey indeed, with a top speed of 282 km/h. And the 3.0 TDI is a real fierce car: In its ABT POWER version, the turbo diesel engine shows 282 hp or 207 kW (serial version: 245 hp/180 kW). Its torque is 560 Nm, up from 500 and certainly enough for every situation. And the “little” four-cylinder version, the 2.0 TFSI, has also undergone an ABT POWER treatment. Up from 211 hp (155 kW), the petrol engine now shows 275 hp (202 kW). Whatever engine you may want to buy, you will always get a lot of added sportiness and agility.</p>

<p>And of course you will always be able to tell a true ABT from a less powerful car. That was so 40 years ago and it also applies to the new AS4. ABT has developed body parts that underscore the car’s character and make it self-confident and dynamic but without seeming arrogant, as it were. The front air dam is fully in line with the striking lights of the AS4, almost pressing the car down onto the road. This sporty approach is continued by the ABT Sportsline designers in the side sills and wing inserts. Aerofoils, rear apron inserts and the two two-pipe exhaust systems round off this very, very sporty – and stylish – car’s design. And last but not least, there are the ABT alloy wheels: Be it CR Silverlight or DR – they are all perfect for the new ABT AS4. Needless to say, they are also available in combination with high-speed tyres. After all, the AS4’s success story is to be continued – on blacktop!</p>

KW automotive is now offering coilovers with dynamic damping control for a wide range of vehicles. Automobiles not yet fitted with damping control will enjoy a sporty upgrade thanks to the new KW Dynamic Damping Control Electronic Control (DDC ECU) coilovers, whose "Comfort", "Sport", and "Sport +" modes deliver a noticeable change in damping characteristics. </p>
<p>As well as the modes designed by the KW suspension developers and test engineers, drivers also have the option of configuring their own damping setups intuitively using a free iPhone app. The dampers' charactertistics can be adjusted independently of the front and rear axle. The continous damper adjustment allows the user to adjust the suspension dampers individually according to their own needs and preferences — from the maximum comfort setting with very soft damping (displayed in the app as 0%) through to the stiffest damper setup (displayed in the app as 100%). Depending on the user-programmed setup, the vehicle can therefore react more comfortably than in the preprogrammed "Comfort" mode or with an even tighter damping rate than in the "Sport+" mode. Once the user has found their perfect, personal setup for their vehicle, they can save it for future use. Memory banks are provided for five personal setups. Saved damper settings can even be emailed to friends, and setups for different racetracks can be exchanged within the clubsport community.</p>
<p><strong>"Tuning 2.0"</strong></p>
<p>It is necessary to install an add-on module so that the iPhone can communicate with the KW DDC ECU coilovers via a secure WLAN connection. First presented at the Essen Motor Show from November 26th to December 4th 2011, the KW DDC ECU coilovers are available for the Audi A3, A4, A5, A6 including S-line models, and other cars. The "iPhone Coilovers" will be available for further vehicles in early 2012. In the longer term, apps are also being developed for Android smartphones.</p>

<p><strong>Compatible with the KW Hydraulic Lift System</strong></p>
<p>The KW DDC ECU coilovers are prepared using Inox-Line stainless-steel technology and, as well as top-notch KW quality, offer the TÜV-tested adjustment range of a renowned KW coilover suspension. Furthermore, they are also compatible with Hydraulic Lift System Kits (HLS).</p>
<p>The KW DDC coilover suspension with ECU is available from 2,599 euros, and the add-on module for wireless communication between smartphone and suspension is available for 299 euros. In time for the 2012 season, the free app allowing individual damper configuration is available for download in the App Store. The suspension comes supplied with the appropriate TÜV parts certificate and vehicle-specific installation instructions, so it can be installed easily and entered into the vehicle documents.</p>
