ABT Sportsline has provided proof of this. The Bavarian company drove its tuned SQ5 with ABT height adjustable suspension springs (35 to 60 mm lowering) and 22″ wheels of type GR to the top station of the Hörnerbahn cable car. The 4×4 had to climb up to an altitude of 1,500 meters on quite challenging terrain – not only because the SQ5 can just do this, but also for a photo shoot of the “uptrend” lifestyle magazine, which is regularly published by ABT Sportsline. The topic of the story: experiencing the dream of flying with a paraglider.

The impressive SUV turned out to be a true all-round talent – it bravely clambered up to the top while also easily offering enough space for four people as well as for the paragliding and photography equipment. In theory, the ABT Audi SQ5, whose power is increased from 354 HP (260 kW) to 425 HP (313 kW) by the additional ABT Engine Control unit, can master the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds. On the Alpine terrain and steep roads, that is of course unthinkable – this was a journey to be made carefully. Instead, the 10 percent torque increase of the ABT Power stage had a positive effect. The associated curve has a mountain-like contour, with the peak at 550 Nm.

At the destination, the paragliders were unpacked and set soaring. From high above, the views not only revealed the beautiful scenery, but also a rather unusual birds’ eye perspective of the ABT Audi SQ5. The ABT aero package wide body, which is also available in a slim version, includes a sporty-elegant front skirt, dynamic door strip attachment and impressive rear skirt set including an ABT rear muffler with 102 mm carbon tailpipes. “In contrast to the production version with just two chrome brackets, this finally makes the exhaust visible again,” explains CEO Hans-Jürgen Abt. Owners of an SQ5 can literally “top up” with a particularly attractive ABT rear wing. When it comes to tires, customers are spoiled for choice.

In addition to the GR from the vehicle in the pictures in glossy black with diamond-machined rim flange (20/21/22 inch), the following models are available: GR matt black with diamond-machined surface (20/21/22 inch) DR in Gun-metal (21 inch) or mystic black (20/21/22 inch) as well as ER-C (20 inch) in matt black and FR (21/22 inch) in mystic black. However, some sizes are reserved for the wide body kit. And the trip to the Hörnerbahn proved that, with the right tires, these wheelhouse beauties are definitely up for the occasional off-road excursion.

If someone wanted to get a subtle continuous lowering for their Audi S3 with electronically adjustable suspension or conventional suspension, in the past one had to change to a coilover suspension. “For ten years already, we have been offering our height adjustable springs for numerous vehicles in our delivery program”, says KW Product Manager Johannes Wacker. ”Recently, we have developed a new system for adjusting the lowering and therefore we can now offer height adjustment springs for the Audi S3 series 8V with its spring plates conventionally attached at the series struts”. The new KW coilover springs are now available for all Audi S3 models of the 8V-series. At the S3 front axle, the springs provide an adjustable lowering of 20 to 30 millimeters. At the rear axle height adjustment, the tested lowering range is 0 – 15 millimeters.

The installation of our KW height adjustable springs can be carried out in every specialist workshop within a few work units. The variable range in lowering has the great advantage that when changing the wheel-tire combination, the lowering level can be adapted to the new rims. This is not possible with conventional suspension springs. In combination with the standard dampers in the Audi S3, the KW height adjustable springs allow a harmonious and direct handling. The latest version of Audi’s premier hot hatch, the 8V RS3, remains one of the most capable performance cars on sale today. Immense, near 400bhp levels of performance are paired with classic, sure-footed Quattro handling, all wrapped up in a typically refined and understated body. It’s a compelling mix and one that’s enabled the RS3 to find countless thousands of homes, but there’s always room for improvement – hence the expansion of KW’s HAS range to accommodate it.

For far, far too long aftermarket suspension spring kits have remained unchanged in terms of design and function. To ensure that the suspension does not get bored with the production engine, the leading tuner for cars from the Audi and Volkswagen Group can also supply a power boost on request. ABT Sportsline takes the three-liter turbo gasoline engine in the SQ5 from originally 354 HP (260 kW) to a fiery 425 HP (313 kW) and a torque increase of 10% to 550 Nm. The power boost compared to the production car is provided by the specially developed ABT Engine Control (AEC) unit with software which is specially adjusted to the respective vehicle model. The AEC continuously adjusts more than 25 different parameters and communicates directly with the original engine control unit. Optimum use of power and maximum protection for the engine at the same time are the result. The AEC is also available for a large range of other engines. The top diesel of the Q5 with 286 HP (210 kW), for example, grows to 330 HP (243 kW), with the maximum torque increasing from 620 Nm to 670 Nm. Expert certificate and warranty are always included.

On request, the engine can be started in style with the ABT Start-Stop-Switch-Cap. An ABT Shift Know Cover from real carbon makes shifting gears a pleasure. And when the time comes to exit the car, the ABT Integrated Entrance Lights bid a silent goodbye!

Olsson’s new rocket is based on the “normal” RS6+, which ABT Sportsline builds in a limited edition of 50 vehicles based on the RS 6 Performance. Compared to the distinctive one-of-a-kind “Phoenix”, that seems almost like a large-scale production run. Thanks to a very special sports exhaust system, which was produced in manual labor as an export version for the Swedish customer, this Avant produces an unrivalled sound and even more power. One of the most impressive features is the unique look of the car. It takes the skiing star’s typical “snow camouflage” wrapping to new heights. The driver’s side is black, while the passenger sits in the white zone. This wacky design is called “split camo”.

The cool film wrap should not detract from the numerous add-on parts from ABT, though, most of which are made from visible carbon: a front lip, front skirt add-ons, mirror covers, wheel arch vents, side skirt add-ons, rear skirt add-ons and a rear spoiler were fitted. Tinted front, rear and side windows as well as darkened headlight covers complete the “Olsson look” – almost. The first prototype of the ABT aero wheel, which was specially built for the Swedish star based on the matte black ABT FR rim, is another great eyecatcher.
