Julia Stone - It's All Okay

2012-04-07T20:00:00.000+08:00

"It's All Okay"

The story is different now, the records are playing in the living room

And you might say you're wounded, and I might say I'm hurt

But we knew the difference then between the fire and the earth

And we may say we're broken, we may say we're weak,

But we knew before we started, oh the secrets we would keep

And it's all okay, cause love will find a way to be what love is

I'll move to the country, and live inside the deepest, darkest wood

And I'll write you a letter and tell you all the things I should say to your face

And I won't send it to you, I'll send it to your mother's place

And she won't give it to you, that's how brave I'll grow here in my cave

And it's all okay, cause love will find a way to be what love is

And you'll move to the city, marry a pretty girl

And she will make you smile all the while you'll be looking for what you left behind

And she will bring you children and oh how you will love them with that heart of yours

I won't visit you, I'll know by then the kinder thing to do

Oh it's all okay, cause love will find a way to be what love is

And it's all okay, cause love will find a way to be what love is

The story is different now, the records are playing in the living room

Next Best Thing: Maverick Sabre

2012-04-03T20:00:00.000+08:00

I was sitting in TGI Fridays, enjoying my Osso Bucco with a crowd chattering and waiters passing back and forth. On TV was muted sports channel and in the background played a song that I can identify each and every one of it, Warwick Avenue of Duffy etc.

Suddenly there is one song that I couldn't recalled hearing. His vocal and style of singing is not in my database. What I did was, just like everytime I heard a great engaging sound is took out my Tablet and excute Shazam. Beneath all the noise and bustle, it detected Maverick Sabre 'I Need' and I was like..."Okeeey...this is new!"

You see wherever I am, I always alert about music. Through conversation with my friend, my mind was lingering what was on the speaker.

Young the Giant - Cough Syrup

Wild Orchid - Love Will Wait

This is an old song that I've been searching in YouTube for long. It's 1996 kinda old. Yes, I listened to them back then of their eponymous album. One of the singer Stacy Ferguson is what currently known as Fergie. She has a powerful vocal back then, not forgetting beautiful, she lost it all to meth.

The Weepies - Be My Honeypie

Morgan Page ft Tegan and Sara - Body Work

Album Review: Other Lives - Tamer Animals (2011)

2012-03-19T20:00:00.000+08:00

I am one of thousands of Other Lives band since my fave hit 'Black Table', I own their 2009 eponymous album. This new release (not really new actually, released in UK August 2011) sounded almost too commercial it closely resembles The Black Keys. Music styles sorta Arcade Fire-ish.

Seriously if it wasn't for strum of various acoustic strings, I can actually bought it that they are indeed the latter. Most likely because vocally Jesse Tabish (of Other Lives) and Dan Auerbach (of The Black Keys) are almost indistinguishable except Auerbach has a hint of falsetto in his. Now if you put Chris Cornell (of Audioslaves) into this picture, it'll all sound confusing.

But this album is flooded with excellent composition nonetheless. My favorite is 'Dust Bowl III' and 'For 12', I need to frequent this album to get a hang of it.

Album Review: Birdy (2011)

2012-02-12T02:43:00.000+08:00

Well I’ve featured Birdy in brother site [grav.i.ty] not so long ago with Skinny Love, a cover of Bon Iver. Well, she did well afterwards. Releasing her eponymous debut studio album last year on November 7. Set for US, Canada and International release on upcoming 20^th March 2012.

Her voice is not that remarkable but yes innocent and young. Like your little sister sings and hit all the correct notes without sounding terrible. Somewhat Hayley Westenra-ish in her younger day a little low on soprano. It was simple and somewhat monotonous. On a plus side, she plays piano. But that doesn’t mean that this album isn’t good at all. Kudos to the mellow, melancholic, dark but melodic music arrangement.

It had me at melancholic.

My favorite tracks 1901, of course Skinny Love, People Help People, I’ll Never Forget You, Shelter, Terrible Love… this list can go further citing entire album.

SCANNERS - SICK LOVE

CAKE - LONG TIME

DANIEL AHEARN - I WILL LET YOU GO

Lana Del Rey - Blue Jeans

2012-02-04T20:00:00.001+08:00

Blue jeans, white shirt

Walked into the room

You know you make my eyes burn

It was like James Dean for sure

You're so fresh to death and sick as ca-cancer

You were full of punk rock

I grew up on hip hop

You fit me better than my favourite sweater

And I know that love is mean, and love hurts

But I still remember that day we met in December

Oh baby

I will love you till the end of time

I would wait a million years

Promise you'll remember that you're mine

Baby can't you see through the tears

Love you more than those bitches before

Say you'll remember, say you'll remember

Oh baby who

I will love you till the end of time

Big dreams

Gangster

Said you had to leave to start your life over

I was like, no please, stay here

We don't need no money, we could make it all work

But he headed out on Sunday, said he'd come home Monday

I stay up waiting, anticipating and pacing

But he was chasing paper

Caught up in the game

It was the last I heard

I will love you till the end of time

I would wait a million years

Promise you'll remember that you're mine

Baby can't you see through the tears

Love you more than those bitches before

Say you'll remember, (oh baby) say you'll remember

Oh baby who

I will love you till the end of time

You went out every night

And baby that's alright

I told you that no matter what you did I'd be by your side

Cause I'mma ride or die

Whether you fail or fly

Well shit, at least you tried

But when you walked out the door

A piece of me died

Told you I wanted more

That's not what I had in mind

Just want it like before

We were dancing all night

Then they took you away

Stole you out of my life

You just need to remember

I will love you till the end of time

I would wait a million years

Promise you'll remember that you're mine

Baby can't you see through the tears

Love you more than those bitches before

Say you'll remember, (oh baby) say you'll remember

Oh baby who

I will love you till the end of time

Album Review: Kyler England - Electric Hum (2011)

2012-02-02T20:00:00.003+08:00

The last time I listened to Electronic music are of Kate Havnevik and Mackintosh Braun aaaand Robyn until I discovered Kyler England. She seriously sounds like Sarah McLachlan the first time I heard her, I thought "What the... how come I didn't know Sarah has a new album?", but no it was Kyler with her brilliant assemble of songs for her latest album, Electric Hum. With a voice like her, she doesn't need synthesizer to make it sound good. Just sayin'.

The tracklist

Battle Cry*
Take This Things To Heart
We Rise Like Smoke
Eye of Your Storm*
When The World Stops Spinning*
Alchemy*
Take Me With You
Leave A Light On
I Need You Now
This Time Next Year

* is my personal favorite track.

THE VERDICT: 5/5

No way this album can be found here in Malaysia, but you can find it in iTunes store or her YouTube channel. She made all her song

Is that your man walking in the dark
Is that your man walking in the dark

Take me home
Where there broken brights
Shining down
Make me feel alright

When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young

Shake them old
Let me lost tonight
We'll grow young
Make me feel alright

When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young

Is that your man walking in the dark
Is that your man walking in the dark
Is that your man...

Album Review: Lana Del Rey - Born To Die (2012)

2012-01-29T03:38:00.000+08:00

She is so damn beautiful, and effing talented. She has voice to die for. Just like Shakira, she has multiple type of vocal variation and she ain't afraid to experiment and flaunt em'. I got a chance to listen to Born To Die before its official release this 30th January. You might wonder how do I managed to get all latest album when they are not yet released. Well, as music enthusiast, I got my own perks.

Here's the songlist for this upcoming delight.

Born to Die
Off to the Races
Blue Jeans
Video Games
Diet Mountain Dew
National Anthem
Dark Paradise
Radio
Carmen
Million Dollar Man
Summertime Sadness
This is What Makes Us Girls
Without You
Lolita
Lucky Ones

My favorite are Born to Die, Off to the Races, Blue Jeans, Video Games, National Anthem *stop me please*. Well, to be honest, all of them are great. They are so damn catchy and you just love it the first time you listen to it. I can promise you that. How can you resist her sultry lazy voice. National Anthem has a gist of The Verve's Bitter Sweet Symphony for intro.

THE VERDICT: 5/5

Let us hope they sell this album here in Malaysia or you can always go to YouTube to listen. SOPA my ass.

KT Tunstall - Throw Me a Rope

2012-01-18T04:04:00.001+08:00

Acoustic Extravaganza is one if KT's great album pre-Drastic Fantastic that takes me a while to like. Apart from Ashes, One Day, Golden Age, Universe and U and Gone To The Dogs, my one favorite track is Throw Me a Rope. It gave me a warmth sensation of relaxing sunny weekend afternoon, sipping tea by the balcony while watching sun setting. It also gave me the shiver of late quiet cold windy night, watching leaves dragged by chilling blow of night air illuminated by streetlight. Times like this makes me wanted to hum along to the rhythm.

I've shared this song in one of the entry in main blog [grav.i.ty], also once resides in Mixpod. Maybe it is difficult to like it at first but do read the lyric and you'll understand why this is immensely heartwarming.

THROW ME A ROPE by KT TUNSTALL

I want you between me and the feeling I get when I miss you
But everything here is telling me I should be fine
So why is it so, above as below,
That I'm missing you every time

I got used to you whispering things to me into the evening
We followed the sun and its colours and left this world
It seems to me that I'm definitely
Hearing the best that I've heard

So throw me a rope to hold me in place
Show me a clock for counting my days down
Cause everything's easier when you're beside me
Come back and find me
Cause I feel alone

And whenever you go it's like holding my breath underwater
I have to admit that I kind of like it when I do
Oh but I've got to be unconditionally
Unafraid of my days without you

So throw me a rope to hold me in place
Show me a clock for counting my days down
Cause everything's easier when you're beside me
Come back and find me
Whenever I'm falling you're always behind me
Come back and find me
Cause everything's easier when you're beside me
Come back and find me
Cause I feel alone

JESS PENNER - LIFE IS ROSY

GEMMA HAYES - KEEP RUNNING

COURRIER - BETWEEN

Can we ever get rid of the whats and the ifs

That doubts that exist in our minds

In the silence I am tricked into thinking you'll forget

And I'll be stranded like a man in a mine

The day between the soil and the sky

An emptiness, a void, a heaviness, a sigh,

But I know you will make through alive

Cause you never said goodbye

Like a city besieged, it was the loneliest thing

Your silence held in cold delay

And I felt faint of heart cause I was caught between

The weight of everything I couldn't say

I don't know, I don't know, I don't know

How to follow, to follow, to follow,

Cause you and I know I can't go, I can't go

Between the gallows and the gates

If you listen carefully, there is some similarity of both music. Leave a comment if you found them.

Leona Lewis - Hurt

I hurt myself today,
To see if I still feel,
I focus on the pain,
The only thing that's real,

The needle tears a hole,
The old familiar sting,
Try to kill it all away,
But I remember everything,

[Chorus]
What have I become,
My sweetest friend,
Everyone I know,
Goes away in the end,

And you could have it all,
My empire of dirt,
I will let you down,
I will make you hurt,

Beneath the stains of time,
The feelings disappear,
You are someone else,
I am still right here,

[Chorus]

And you could have it all,
My empire of dirt,
I will let you down,
I will make you hurt,

If I could start again,
A million miles away,
I will keep myself,
I would find a way
I will find a way.

Ross Copperman - Holding On and Letting Go

Is anybody out there?

Is anybody listening?

Does anybody really know if its the end of the beginning?

The quiet rush of one breath

Is all we're waiting for

Sometimes the one we’re taking

Changes every one before..

[Chorus]

It's everything you wanted, it's everything you don't

It's one door swinging open and one door swinging closed

Some prayers find an answer

Some prayers never know

We're holding on and letting go

Sometimes we're holding angels

And we never even know

Don't know if we'll make it,

But we know,

We just can't let it show

[Chorus]

It's everything you wanted, it's everything you don't

It's one door swinging open and one door swinging closed

Some prayers find an answer

Some prayers never know

We're holding on and letting go

Yeah, letting go

It's everything you wanted, it's everything you don't

It's one door swinging open and one door swinging closed

Some prayers find an answer

Some prayers never know

We're holding on and letting go

[Chorus]

It's everything you wanted, it's everything you don't

It's one door swinging open and one door swinging closed

Some prayers find an answer

Some prayers never know

We're holding on and letting go.

It's everything you wanted, it's everything you don't

It's one door swinging open and one door swinging closed

Some prayers find an answer

Some prayers never know

We're holding on and letting go

ZOLA JESUS - SKIN

Safety net, don't hold me now

In this hole I've fallen down

Secret home I made and found

And you wait to breathe

Skin of all, skin of all

I've had enough, ooh ohh

Skin of all

And in the sickness, you have faith

And in the thickness, you find me

Finally

In the city, you find pain

And the people you see there

That remind you of your role

Let me go

Skin of all, skin of all

I've had enough, ooh ooh

Skin of all

And in the sickness, you have faith

And in the thickness you find me

Finally, finally

That's what they say

Finally

SNOW PATROL - NEW YORK

If you were here beside me

Instead of in New York

If the curve of you is curved on me

I'd tell you that I love you

Before I ever knew you

'Cause I love the simple thought of you

If our hearts are never broken

then there's no joy in the mending

There's so much this heart can teach us both

Though there's distance and there's silence

Your words have never left me

You're the prayer that I say every day

Come on

Come out

Come here

(4x)

The long neon nights and the ache of the ocean

And the fire that was starting to spark

I miss it all from the love to the lightning

And the lack of it snaps me in two

If you were here beside me

Instead of in New York

In the arms you said you'd never leave

I'd tell you that it's simple

And it was only ever thus

There is no where else that I belong

Come on

Come out

Come here

(4x)

The long neon nights and the eek of the ocean

And the fire that was starting to spark

I miss it all from the love to the lightning

And the lack of it snaps me in two

Just give me a sign

There's an end and a beginning

To the quiet chaos driving me mad

The long neon night and the want of the ocean

And the fire that started to go out
