Daft Punk is, hands down, one of my favorite electronic groups of all time. I can still listen to tracks like “Around the World” on repeat for long periods of time. That said, I am extremely excited to hear their new album Random Access Memories set to be released on May 21, 2013.

Friday was the official release date for “Get Lucky” and it has been reported that the track had the biggest streaming day on Spotify in the United States and the United Kingdom. The record was previously held by Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop” in the U.S. and Bastille’s “Pompeii” in the U.K.

Ra Ra Riot was been around since 2006 and I’ve been meaning to share a song of theirs for a while now. “When I Dream” is it. They got their start playing the college scene in houses and venues near Syracuse University. Less than six months later they were invited to the play at the College Media Journal (CMJ) Music Marathon. A few years later, here they are releasing their third full-length album. If you have been following them, this album marks a move from their baroque pop roots to a more synthpop sound.

Telekinesis is the stage name of Michael Lerner, an Indie Rock musician from Seattle, Washington. His new album, Dormarion will be released on April 2, 2013. The new album gets its name from a road in Austin, Texas, where the record was made. Michael will have band members with him on tour this spring.

“Summertime, All the Time” is the motto and the self-proclaimed genre of Viceroy, a music producer from San Francisco, California. It is a music project started by Austen Afridi in 2011. From reading his details on Facebook he would rather DJ a pool party than a dance club. Austen adds this “summertime” feel to every track through his unique use of tropical and disco beats. The two songs found below are great examples of this and with warmer weather just around the corner you can get your summer playlist started. While We’re in Love is a Viceroy original created with the help of Ghost Beach.

Sir Sly is an indie pop trio from Los Angeles, California. Band members include Landon Jacobs (vocalist), Jason Suwito, and Hayden Coplen. These guys are so new that you can listen to their whole discography in the next 20 minutes, and it will be time well spent. Today’s song, Gold, is their most popular track to date. Bastille is easily becoming one of my favorite bands of 2013. It started in 2010 as a solo project of Dan Smith from London, England. Since then, Bastille has become a band with three other members. The band gets its name from Dan’s birthday, which was on Bastille Day. They are currently touring with Two Door Cinema Club to promote their new album, Bad Blood, with the release date of March 4th 2013. The band has two mixtapes titled Other People’s Heartache volumes 1 and 2. Check them out after listening to Pompeii. Find them both on Bastille’s Soundcloud page. His cover of City High’s track called What Would You Do is worth a listen too!

Keeping with the “odd” music theme of the last post, check out Get Free by Major Lazer. What I find odd, yet great, about this song of the day is the fluctuating melody by Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors. Major Lazer is a Jamaican Dancehall music project of Diplo and once was a partnership with DJ Switch up until 2011. Diplo, a.k.a Thomas Pentz, is an Electronica producer and DJ from Tupelo, Mississippi.

Song: Get Free (2012)

Alt-J (∆) is an odd-sounding alternative indie pop from Leeds, England. However, their odd sound is the reason that I like this song of the day. When I first heard it, I was reminded of Adam Sandler’s gibberish in the movie Billy Madison. The group formed back in 2007 when the band members met at Leeds University. The name is derived from the Greek letter Delta (or triangle symbol seen in the title). It can be created on a Apple Mac keyboard by holding down the ‘Alt’ and ‘J’ keys. Delta is used in mathematics to represent change. This music project was one of those changes in their lives. Other worthy tracks on their latest album are Breezeblocks, Tessellate, Intro, Something Good, and Taro. Alt-J will be touring the United States this fall.

Ramona Falls was started by Brent Knopf as a side project from his other band Menomena. As of a year ago this side project became his main focus. The band is named after a waterfall that he used to hike to near Mount Hood. Prophet is the second album since the debut album Intuit in 2009. It was released… today and consists of brighter and more personal tracks than previous albums. Ramona Falls is an Indie Rock and Experimental band from Portland, Oregon.

Imagine Dragons is an alternative rock band hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2009, they began recording in the studio after winning the local Battle of the Bands four times in a row. They’re popularity escalated rapidly from there. This week Imagine Dragons is the MTV PUSH artist of the week. The official music video for their single “It’s Time” debuted yesterday. Check it out!
