Introduction to Acting on Camera, with Shannon Lawson: This course is designed for the actor at the beginning of their career. Whether you’re completely new to the game or you have a few productions under your belt this course will help you build stronger performances as it takes you through rehearsal and performance of straightforward monologues and scenes. Your introduction into the world of acting will also include an introduction to warm up techniques and improv games that will let you shed inhibitions and get into the moment. The second half of this class will introduce you to working in front of the camera and be spent developing those skills.

COVERED IN CLASS:

• Practical industry information, including the casting process.
• Learning how to approach and analyze a script with confidence.
• Learn specific tools to help you construct a character’s inner life.
• Learn to focus on intentions on the way to an honest performance.

Synopsis: Begins with a dressed up couple eating dinner in a restaurant/dance club. They move to the dance floor, begin dancing and heads begin to turn to watch the couple dance. At the end of the dance the husband takes his wife hand into his, and with a tear says thank you. Camera Pans 180 degrees. The couple is revealed to be quadriplegic in a care facility wearing virtual reality head gear. A nurse puts their hands together. Last shot shows the couple smiling at each other with tears.

Rob is an exemplary soldier. He’s intelligent and very dedicated to protecting his country and innocent people. He hates communists and believes that they will eventually launch the nuclear attack. He lets his training and fears get in the way of thinking things through.

Side Character

Bill is a young technician at the base. He makes a mistake that leads to the false signal being sent out, and races to fix it before something terrible happens.

Synopsis: We are producing a documentary on the life and death of Marie Joseph Angelique, a 18th century slave, who in 1734, was executed for burning down Montreal.
