We have all had those times, right? I can not be the only creative person who suddenly hits a wall and falls off the earth for a week or two with internal voices screaming to just give up. I had that happen recently which is why I have been so silent. Each day during that period I would wake up and refuse to do anything in the realm of shop (except post giveaways on my other blog).

Needless to say I finally found my re-inspiration when I went off to a garden and was having an amazing time just taking pictures here and there and capturing some shots of my boyfriend as well as the details around us.

I remembered why it is I love taking pictures--I just do! There is something amazing about bringing an idea out of my mind and making it real...and so I am going to keep trucking away at my shop but I will probably scale back on some of my social media promoting so that I can have more time to do photography.

Balance is key!

Keep an eye on my shop for more new images.

A very metal summer

I had planned to make a separate post about each concert I went to this summer but I just finished the second one so now this post will talk about two.

This is big fun fact about me that many of you probably do not know-- I love Christian metal music! It has not always been so, but I do now. I used to "follow the crowd" in high school when all I played was whatever was popular and on the radio. After I graduated, and through the stepping stones of various friends, I slowly became more open to music. Now, I listen to a huge variety of music but this metal is my favorite. When I met my now boyfriend he was a Christian metal-head so he showered me with metal music and I knew that if I gave it enough time I would come to love it (although to start with, I found it very cringe-worthy and could hardly make it through one song at a time lol).

The changing point came when he played this CD called Dichotomy from Becoming the Archetype. I fell madly in love with this CD and it became a major fixture in my car rides (and still is). I felt so powerful filling the airwaves beyond my windows with this music-- and so began my deep love for Christian metal. That was nearly three years ago and now I have found and love so many great bands that it is impossible to know who to talk about (although BTA will always be my number one). That is why I thought I would just mention some great music via the concerts I stumble into.

Rockstar Mayhem Festival:

We wandered into this crazy festival not for the headliners but for several of the others. This show was tiring, sweaty, but fun and we rocked it out to:

1. Betraying the Martyrs
2. I, the Breather
3. The Devil Wears Prada
4. As I Lay Dying

I enjoyed these bands immensely and Betraying the Martyrs was my reason for wanting to go so I came stocked with my oldest point and shoot camera and didn't bother taking any pictures until they were on stage and I was up close. This 3MP camera is so old I only got 3 pictures before it crashed with a memory card error. I was pretty sad but when I got home I found that one of the pictures captured a "perfect moment" so the real fun came when I posted it on their facebook and they reposted it on their wall and tumblr (thanks!). It was exciting to see a picture I took getting lots of love!

Beat the heat:

Last summer we were lucky enough to find a Becoming the Archetype show (two hours away) and that show was amazing. I didn't think we'd get lucky this summer--but we did! The drive to get there this time (different venue) was only an hour and a half and it was totally worth it. This concert was super amazing (I know I sound so girly talking about metal) and even better than last time. Not only was BTA the headliner but this concert was also going to feature Wolves at the Gate and Crush the Adversary making it three times the build up of excitement.

I decided I wanted to get crafty and I made a headband rocking out BTA (even though I felt kind of really lame my boyfriend kept saying it was cool so I wore it anyways):

I was expecting a great show, but what I didn't know is that there would be even more sweet bands (this local group Mirrors I really loved) and this amazing poetry reading. Here are all the people you should check out:

I should mention that BTA played a new song and it was AWESOME and I can't wait to get that CD. I also did not take pictures but I took a few videos for personal replay; maybe someday I will share them but I am not big on uploading videos lol.

Since these concerts are smaller in nature you get the chance to sometimes communicate with the people in the bands which meant that I made it my mission to get some autographs while I was there (despite feeling utterly ridiculous since I am sure I was probably the only one walking up all girly and asking for a signature). Since BTA is my favorite and I adore Wolves at the Gate I really wanted to get them.

Throughout the course of the night I managed to snag all of BTA, Wolves at the Gate, Mirrors, and talked to Cam from Hotel Books. It was so embarrassing standing around waiting for a moment to ask at the end but now that I am home with an awesome souvenir I am glad I didn't chicken out.

I love getting my hands on items from the handmade community and I thought I should start blogging about them so I can share the awesome things I get with you (keep your eyes peeled for more)!

Today I want to do a quick post on the awesome reversible animal bed that I got from Ooh Leela pets (a shop that specializes in personalized dog shirts, small dog clothes, and is a dog boutique). Her main focus are dogs but I got myself something for my kitty Casey!

I am not going to say too much because next Saturday I will have a feature and interview on my other blog that will give you more details about her, but in this post you will find some pictures of her packaging and the product (plus my cat); and here is the feedback I left:

Ohh Leela! I love this bed that I was lucky enough to get (and so does my cat which is more important than me ;) ). This was a great shop to work with, awesome customer service, quick shipping (great surprise and packaging), and super product! Did I mention that I sat around rubbing this on my cheek for a good chunk of time before letting the kitty get his paws on it? It is super soft and greatly made-- now I need a pillow for myself haha! Thanks so much! :) A+

Tip for sellers (#1)
So here is my first tip for other sellers (be sure to follow my blog to read all tips that get posted plus more): Contact each buyer with a thank you.

For some people this may sound completely unneeded, but for others it is not. I am not only a seller but also a buyer and there have been many times, since the beginning of my shopping handmade, that I have bought something and never received a separate message saying thank you. Ug.

When a seller does not send me a separate message/conversation I am always sad because I love helping the handmade community and showing my thanks when people buy something from me so it is a huge let down when the item gets here and I had never heard from them.

On Etsy you can put a thank you note on sold items but unless someone checks that section they will not even realize it is there so it is definitely a good idea to send a quick (or long depending on your style) little message to say thank you; even if they do not reply back they know that you are just as appreciative of them as if they had gone to a retail store.

When you are checking out at any store do you leave with a silent transaction? NO.
Cashiers are breed to always say "thank you, have a nice day" (or something of the sort) and you should too.

So the next time you get a sale, reply to them and let you know they are the reason you tick!
