So hi there! I’m Emily and I’m human who is age fourteen this year. I’m a goose hybrid as well :D (LAWSON!) I live in Singapore, and it’s hot and cold and sometimes rather temperamental. I’m a Christian. And I also love to do archery!

How long have you been blogging? What made you want to start a book blog?

I started blogging in 2012. I’m a crazy bookworm and once or twice I tried to spaz with my sister over a novel I’m simply crazy about or this boy inside that I’m totally falling head over heels for. And I would always get a response which is like this .__.

I desperately needed to find an outlet, so that I can share my feelings with people who can actually understand how I am feeling at that point in time. Thus started my Goodreads account! Soon after, I started my blog, in March 2013, because I decided it would be nice to have a little corner of this universe, otherwise known as the blogsphere, to myself where I can share my views. Just like so many others out there!

What do you do when you’re not blogging or reading?

When I’m not blogging or reading, I’m either listening to Lawson or Ellie Goulding (I’m a sucker for British Artists), playing golf, shooting arrows, being crafty (with my hands, of course), studying, or in school.

What is your favorite part about blogging? Least favorite?

Ah. My Favourite part of blogging is definitely meeting new fellow bloggers! I love making friends, and of course, another once of the perks is now I have one more friend to express myself to! Of course, having another excuse to read more is another one of those perks!

My least favorite part is dealing with those negative haters. It’s rather demoralizing some times, okay maybe all the time, and some times I just have to stay off the internet to keep to myself a little. But as time goes by it gets easier to handle, thankfully :)

Where did you come up with the name for your blog?

I wanted my blog name to be something unique, and something close to my heart. As a little girl, I used to play and chase after butterflies, developing my love for those little winged creatures. I really loved watching them fly, and similarly, I have always believed that one day I will be able to take ‘flight’, and stand out and be special, just like everyone else is special in their own way!

Besides, I always love things that sound ethereal. :D

Do you have any specific book bloggers that inspire you?

Yes! I have so many :) Don’t be bashful, but you’re one of them! ;) I love how you are always so honest with your feelings and how you aren’t afraid to express how you feel! And then there’s also Giselle from Xpresso Reads, Annabelle from Sparkles and Lightning, Hannah at Book Haven Extraordinaire, and the team over at Bewitched Bookworms! And of course, not forgetting the best and first actual bloggy friend I could ever meet, Lisseth over at Read-a-holicZ.

All of them (you) have been such a big inspiration to me. You’re always so generous, honest and friendly to all your followers!

[Jessi] Dawww gosh, thank you! ^.^

What do you look for in a blog when following? What are your pet peeves?

When I follow a blog, I typically look out for interesting, honest content, and can tickle me to laugh! I love humor! Sometimes a light dose of sarcasm makes me laugh, especially when I can relate! I also look out for content that I can tell is from the heart. Also, pretty designs may at times (but rarely) spur me to bookmark that blog so that I can keep going back!

What usually peeves me is when others use too many bad words in one post, an ‘eff’ here and ‘eff’ there, though I can keep my cool when it is used a teensy weensy bit. Or when I can tell that person is really upset. Sometimes scary, gory blog designs can really put me off too :O

What’s your favorite book(s)?

Now that is so tough to decide!

I really loved Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen. I have always loved the tale of Robin Hood since I was small and my mom told it to me, and this fresh take on it was absolutely brilliant (did I mention that Scarlet was Miss Gaughen’s debut novel?). I loved the characters (Robin and Scarlet *squee!*) and the romance was so sweet! (Did I mention I’m a sucker for archers too?)

I also loved the 2nd to 4th book of the Need Series by Carrie Jones! The Norse Mythology was brilliant and Astley (uber sexy) was such a heart-stopper! The characters were all quirky and full of spunk and the whole storyline was so driven and breath-taking.

Breathe by Sarah Crossan is also another of my favorites! It was such a fantastic and almost realistic exaggeration of our future if we continue in our wasteful ways.

The Books of Bayern were also brilliant and that’s the type of fantasy that I fell in love with a long time ago.

Divergent was totally epic too. I’m so looking out for the movie! (though I don’t necessarily agree with the casting)

Favorite author?

Carrie Jones. She’s just like Zara in so many ways. And she likes fudgesicles!

Gennifer Albin. Total genius in my opinion, and I love her wit.

And then there’s Shannon Hale. She’s such a genius too!

What is the biggest turn off for you when you’re reading a book?

Insta-love and angsty characters. Oooh. They make me want to STRANGLE somebody. Who falls in love because you’re buff, have blonde hair and blue eyes? (No Astley, I’m not referring to you because even though you look like that, you are still loved) And yes, you can live without that boy, my dear friend. After all, you only met him for what… a week?

[Jessi] This. THIS. Right here. I hate that! Ohh, I just met you two days ago but I’d wither and die without you. Gag me with a spoon!

And the curse words. Yikes. Dear character, if you want to say the F word, you could say it to the toilet bowl, I’m sure he won’t mind. But please remember to flush after you’re done.

[Jessi] Lmao. Don’t read September Girls!

What first draws you to a book to make you want to read it?

Oops. Guilty as charged. Yes. I look at the covers. Next step is reading the blurb. Next is reading what other credible bloggers have to say about it. Final Step: Good? I’m making a trip to the bookshop!

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Odd. Bad sense of humor. Bookworm.

Name a random fact about yourself.

I have a problem with unfinished food. (probably explains my size up to this day)

Do you have a job? If so, what do you do?

I have a job! Full-time student and part-time bookworm :D

What did you want to be when you were little? Has that changed?

When I was little, I wanted to be an artist (though all the humans I draw have at least one feature that is … not human-like), then I wanted to be an author. Now I want to be a doctor so that I can help people :)

Randomness

Cats or dogs?

Dogs! Definitely! Toby my dog wins all :D And I have Ailurophobia. (which is why having the resident cat in my school rubbing itself all over my friends makes me run. Even from my friend.)

Favorite animal?

Dogs, Horses and Elephants.

White, dark, or milk chocolate?

Milk Chocolate rules all!

Coke or Pepsi?

Coke. Though it’s bad for my teeth and my waistline.

Favorite TV show?

Sherlock, Hawaii Five-O and The West Wing (a political drama!)

Movie?

The Lord Of The Rings (preciousssssss. Did I mention I can do a like imitation of Gollum?), Avengers (!!!! HAWKEYE :D) and Iron Man 3 (epic. And so scary!!!)

Color?

Purple, Blue, Turquoise, Pink

Thanks for being here today, Emily! It was great getting to know you! :)

Unfortunately I didn’t have time last month to get to my May is for aliens read. And to be honest I kinda forgot about it >.>

Rebellious, courageous, and tender, this unforgettable duo will have you on the edge of your seat as you tear through the pulse-pounding narrow escapes and horrifying twists of fate in this thrilling debut from author Demitria Lunetta.

Before was reality; the After, a nightmare.

In the After was fabulous! The world that Lunetta painted drew me in and I loved it!

I think the driving point in this book was the relationship between Amy and Baby. It was beautiful and real and had me rooting for them to succeed. Amy was very protective of Baby, but Baby was perfectly capable of holding her own as well. I absolutely LOVED the fact that they spoke in sign language! They had their own modified version and could hold entire conversations with nothing but their hands; even when they couldn’t see they could sign into each other’s hands. It was awesome! So there were very few quotations in the first half of the book because the conversations were all in italics. I can’t think of a single other book like that! Very cool.

Another important part: Them. Totally creepy, mindless killing machines. They flock to light and even the smallest sound. How terrible would it be to live in silence? To not even be able to whisper? And sometimes it really struck me how different the world was when Baby was concerned: i.e. She didn’t know what a horse was. It’s something you don’t really think about, and I think that made the world building even better because the author included small things like that.

I have to admit that Amy kind of annoyed me at times. She was rather arrogant and many times I just wanted to slap her.

So much of who I used to be was about being good in school and having friends who were good in school. We were, to put it simply, arrogant little know-it-alls. But I miss that.

You miss being a bitch? Okay, sure. Just the way she talked about herself and her life Before was enough to make me sure that I would have hated her. And the way she regarded Amber annoyed me, too (even though Amber kinda deserved it). Just because Amber didn’t know how to survive, Amy looked at her as being lesser and unworthy of life.

…having to deal with a self-centered dimwit can have deadly consequences.

Wow. I mean, I get it. It’s about survival of the fittest. But damn, get off your high horse. The girl can learn. Yet despite all that arrogance, she couldn’t figure things out.
View Spoilers »
It was OBVIOUS that the mark on Baby’s neck meant something, yet she was too dense to realize it. Rice had an obvious reaction to it, and covered it up more than once. If someone acted strangely to it, wouldn’t you question why?

I stared at her for a moment, her blonde hair barely covering the scar on her neck. I reached out and combed her hair with my fingers, arranging it over the mark, though I wasn’t entirely sure why.

Are you seriously that dumb? Ugh.

Rice was okay, but he didn’t have much of a personality. He was kinda just there for me. And the romance didn’t do much for me, either…but thankfully it didn’t play a very large role in the story.

You always have to give up some freedoms to live in any society.

New Hope was a full blown dystopian society. I suppose to live in harmony in a post-apocalyptic world there’d have to be some sort of control, but this town took it to the extreme. Pregnancy is a requirement, and you have no choice who you have children with. If you didn’t conform, you were drugged and thrown in a mental ward. It was insane!

In the last half, the story was laced with intermittent flashbacks. It made it super intriguing because all you get is snippets of Amy being in the hospital, drugged to oblivion for some horrible misdemeanor that she supposedly committed. But you have no idea what it is because even she doesn’t know! It was brilliantly done and had me gobbling up the story to find answers.

And oh boy, did I get answers. There’s a major twist in the story! I never would have guessed going into this novel.
View Spoilers »
I have to admit that I had questions about Them, and that some of it didn’t make sense – like how did they make a ship if they’re so dumb? – but I never thought that!

I was completely broadsided, and it was awesome! Lunetta sure knows how to throw her readers for a loop.

Favorite character: Kay. She was badass!

[Janhvi] (On left in the picture) Hey, I’m Janhvi. I’m 20 and a student from India. I love reading and discovering new books which eventually led me into blogging with my best friend, Sarika. I always love to read about happy endings. I love romance. I love chocolates and ice cream. I enjoy watching movies and can be occasionally found day dreaming.

[Sarika] (On right in the picture) Hi, I’m Sarika, a 20 year old student from India. I am a proud Potterhead. I breathe Harry Potter. Aside from that, I have completed my Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Politics and I plan to do my Masters in French. Reading and blogging are my passions. I love drawing, food and music by Boys Like Girls. Fashion and sports interest me and people in general fascinate me.

How long have you been blogging? What made you want to start a book blog?

[Janhvi] I had been a blog reader for a long time before I actually got the guts to start blogging with Sarika. It actually came up pretty randomly and we decided to go for it. It’s been around 8 months since we started blogging and we’re having loads of fun.

[Sarika] Janhvi, my best friend and co-blogger, introduced me to the magnificent world of book blogging a few years back. Over coffee one day, I just told her about how it’d be cool to have a book blog of our own. I tried making one all by myself and failed miserably. She, as always, came to my rescue and we gave serious thought to it and finally started The Readdicts in August 2012 and have been blogging ever since.

What do you do when you’re not blogging or reading?

[Janhvi] I don’t do much other than reading. Lol. But I love watching movies, going out and catching up with my favorite shows on TV.

[Sarika] I dream, imagine and over think and do some random stuff. It’s a boring life.

What is your favorite part about blogging? Least favorite?

[Janhvi] Favorite part about blogging is definitely the book blogging community. It is amazing to find people who share the same love for books. Makes me feel less weird when they get when I’m talking as though a fictional character is real. I also love finding new books which surprise me.
Least favorite part about blogging would probably be the troubles that Blogger gives sometimes. When I see some really good blogger has lost his or her own blog for no rhyme or reason, it scares me.

[Sarika] My most favourite part about book blogging is interacting with our fellow bloggers. It’s really amusing and terrific meeting so many people from all over the world and sharing the common love for books and reading. And I love authors. A single mail or tweet from them makes my day.
I am a Virgo and if it’s not right, it’s not fine, so my least favourite part would have to be making Blogger’s post drafting and previewing and publishing work in tune.

Where did you come up with the name for your blog?

[Janhvi] All the credit here goes to Sarika. She was the one who came up with it. We were just mixing random words and basically we wanted something nice and easy and we got The Readdicts.

[Sarika] We were just jotting down possible names for our blog and trying to put two and two together which was just a matter of straining our brains a bit. We came up with read addicts but seeing the commonality and unavailability of it, we chose Readdicts, which means the same- reading is our drug and we’re addicted.

Do you have any specific book bloggers that inspire you?

[Janhvi] A ton of bloggers inspire me probably without them even realizing it. Sarika has mentioned all our blogger friends below but a few bloggers whom I love and admire and whom I aspire to be like are Joy @ Joyous Reads, Rachel @ Fikshun, Giselle @ Xpresso Reads. I think they have great blogs and I hope we achieve that someday.

[Sarika] Honestly, every blog I see inspires me, be it the layout, the style in which the owner writes his/ her reviews or the blog in general. In the 10 months that we’ve been blogging, I’ve made a few great friends whose blogs both Janhvi and I admire and stalk (like, Aman @ Enticed By Books, Aylee @ Recovering PotterAddict and Tanja @ Ja Çitam, A Ti?).

Closer home, all the established Indian book bloggers are truly an inspiration and I hope that someday, we reach the same calibre as them.

What do you look for in a blog when following? What are your pet peeves?

[Janhvi] I usually look for similar tastes in books. But sometimes I like to follow a blogger who reads something I don’t usually read just so I can give it a try if it’s really good. There is no clear definition of whom I follow.

[Sarika] I don’t really look for anything. So long as it’s a book blog, I’m okay with following them. However, recently, Janhvi has been giving me blogging lessons and I’m slowly learning. I don’t really have any pet peeves.

What’s your favorite book(s)?

[Janhvi] This list can go on endlessly. I love Lords Of The Underworld series by Gena Showalter, The Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi, Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley, The Sea Of Tranquility by Katja Millay and any and all of Abbi Glines’ books.

[Sarika] Harry Potter series (particularly Harry Potter and the Half- Blood Prince) by J. K. Rowling, all of Khaled Hosseini’s books, Beautiful series by Jamie McGuire, Stephen Chobosky’s The Perks Of Being A Wallflower (to name a few).

Favorite author?

[Janhvi] Again, I have a long list but if I had to pick one it would be Gena Showalter.

[Sarika] J. K. Rowling (Always!)

What is the biggest turn off for you when you’re reading a book?

[Janhvi] I hate reading about whiny or judgemental characters. That is a total turn off for me. Characters acting stupid and reacting without thought irritate me. I hate reading about cheating. So, uh, yeah I have quite a long list of turn offs.

[Sarika] I’m not one to judge but it really surprises me when I find editorial/grammatical errors in books published by big houses; and lengthy and unnecessary descriptions make me drift off.

What first draws you to a book to make you want to read it?

[Janhvi] The summary and the cover usually pull me in. I love a forbidden romance so if a book has that I will totally read it.

[Sarika] The title and the cover! I don’t normally like to read summaries so that’s all I go by. I’m up to read a bit of anything and everything.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

[Janhvi] Shy, sweet, sensible (I hope).

[Sarika] Human, Potterhead, psycho.

Name a random fact about yourself.

[Janhvi] I don’t share ice cream.

[Sarika] I don’t tell unless asked.

Do you have a job? If so, what do you do?

[Janhvi] No, I don’t have a job.

[Sarika] Nope, no job for me.

What did you want to be when you were little? Has that changed?

Gifted with the rare ability to weave time with matter, Adelice is exactly what the Guild is looking for, and in Arras, being chosen as a Spinster is everything a girl could want. It means privilege, eternal beauty, and being something other than a secretary. It also means the power to embroider the very fabric of life. But once you become a Spinster, there is no turning back. Now caught in a web of lies and intrigue, Adelice must decide who to trust: her kind mentor, Enora; the handsome and mysterious valet Jost; or the charismatic Guild ambassador Cormac Patton. They each have secrets, but Adelice is about to unravel the deadliest one of all, a sinister truth that could destroy reality as she knows it.

In a powerful and original debut about a world where the Guild decides everything, one extraordinary girl dares to defy the power of men and the boundaries of love.

I’m not really sure what to think of this book overall. I had a lot of issues with the world building, but it was so unique I couldn’t help but enjoy it anyway.

I had a very difficult time in the beginning because I was really struggling to understand all of the terms and trying to envision the world. Things were not explained very well at all. I had a hard time picturing anything in my head, and thinking about it made my brain hurt. Arras, the Guild, Stream, complants, rebound, motocarriage (kinda speaks for itself, but still. A description would have been nice), digifile…I picked up on the meanings eventually, but a brief description could have painted a picture in my head rather than confusing me. I shouldn’t be just figuring out what important terms are when I’m halfway through the book.

I don’t think I started actually getting into this book until the scene with the first ‘ripping.’ That was almost 100 pages in. The beginning was a bit rough for me because I was having trouble with the world building, and frankly I was bored. Extremely. So bored, in fact, that I almost considered putting it down. I’m glad I stuck with it though – it didn’t wow me, but the last half was much better.

I have to admit I liked the idea of it, though! Everyone was controlled by threads in a loom…and that made up the whole world. Again, I had some trouble grasping it, but it was still a pretty awesome concept. The fact that it’s completely unlike anything I’ve ever read before makes it stand out, and I’m more likely to remember it even though I didn’t love it.

I can see how some people would have problems with it being rather misogynistic. But it worked for me. It didn’t really bother me because it was convincing that this was the way they lived. I mean seriously guys, you can tell just by reading the synopsis (which I got straight from the cover flap because it’s better than the Goodreads one) – ‘power of men,’ and the line about privilege and beauty. The men and women are segregated, and women are pretty much raised to be tested for being a Spinster. The only line that irked me was this:

“Actually, you don’t see many women out from behind the desk these days. Not without their husbands.”

It annoyed me, but I think that was the intent. Because it really conveyed that misogynist society.

The characters were meh. I didn’t really care much about any of them. Adelice was alright – she didn’t wow me, but I admit that she earned my grudging respect with this line:

“Fetish? Big word.” He raised one eyebrow at me, challenging me to explain how a pure Eligible knows a word like that. I want to tell him that unlike the other simpering idiots here I’ve actually read a book or two in my life.

I did really like Cormac for some reason. I’m very curious about him! I hope to see more of him in the next book!

The love triangle really irked me, though. Adelice kissed Erik, then 30 pages later she kissed Jost and was thinking about them at the same time, like she could have them both. There was no guilt or feeling of wrongness for playing both guys. These are the kind of love triangles that ruin my enjoyment of the story!

There was one revelation regarding character identities that should have been a shock, but I found myself sadly unsurprised. The ending, on the other hand…I must admit that’s what saved this book for me! The cliffhanger was killer epic and it left me dying to know what happens!

Andrew Winston Winters is at war with himself.

He’s part Win, the lonely teenager exiled to a remote Vermont boarding school in the wake of a family tragedy. The guy who shuts all his classmates out, no matter the cost.

He’s part Drew, the angry young boy with violent impulses that control him. The boy who spent a fateful, long-ago summer with his brother and teenage cousins, only to endure a secret so monstrous it led three children to do the unthinkable.

Over the course of one night, while stuck at a party deep in the New England woods, Andrew battles both the pain of his past and the isolation of his present.

Before the sun rises, he’ll either surrender his sanity to the wild darkness inside his mind or make peace with the most elemental of truths—that choosing to live can mean so much more than not dying.

The memories, those images I don’t want, are swarming around inside me, looking for a way, any way, to get out…
“I need to go,” I mumble. “To the biology lab.”
“You ever read that article I sent you? About-”
“Sea quarks,” I manage feebly. “Yeah, thanks for that.”
I know he wants me to stay and talk because that’s what we did last year. We talked. Not about my grief or my anger or my guilt over how my siblings died like martyrs cast against wicked ways. Those are the things I never talk about. No, we talked about matter – most notably quarks, those tiniest possible components of everything. They came in six flavors, you know: up, down, top, bottom, charm, and strange. I’ll admit those talks really helped me, and when I read about the sea quarks, I understood why. They contain particles of matter and antimatter, and where the two touch exists this constant stream of creation and annihilation. Scientists call this place ‘the sea,’ and it’s what pitches inside of me as I hurry away from Mr. Byles, ignoring his furrowed brow, his worried frown.
I am of the sea.
I am of instability.
I am of harsh, choppy waves roiling with all the up-ness, down-ness, top-ness, bottom-ness, contained within my being.
I am of charm and strange.
Annihilation.
Creation.
Annihilation.

She was screaming. Drenched in blood. Then she vanished.

A year later, Annaliese is found wandering down a road hundreds of miles away. She doesn't know who she is. She doesn't know how she got there. She only knows one thing: She is not the real Annaliese Rose Gordon.

Now Annaliese is haunted by strange visions and broken memories. Memories of a reckless, desperate wish . . . a bloody razor . . . and the faces of other girls who disappeared. Piece by piece, Annaliese's fractured memories come together to reveal a violent, endless cycle that she will never escape—unless she can unlock the twisted secrets of her past.

Another Little Piece was dark and rather twisted, and I think that’s why I enjoyed it. It was kinda f*cked up at times, and sometimes I wondered what the heck I was reading, but in a good way!

Every time I found another piece of the past, I wasn’t remembering it so much as reliving it.

I like the way the story was told, with little snippets of flashbacks mixed in with the present. I saw a lot of complaints that it was confusing, but it worked for me. It kept me intrigued, wondering what the hell happened to Annaliese, and with each piece of memory I became more and more involved. This made the pacing very fast – because it’s a mystery and a thriller, you can’t help but turning pages in desire for the truth.

There were some more serious aspects to the story because it touched (a little) on tough subjects like rape and homosexuality. I was surprised at these elements, but again it wasn’t a bad thing. Fluffy reads are great, but sometimes I need to read something dark and gritty!

There were also some major WTFery moments where I was just like, uhhhhhmmmm……. Like when Anna was just chilling and smoking a cigarette, then exhales a plume of smoke and puts out the burning cigarette on her thigh and is totally emotionless about it. Or when she looked at someone and thought:

It didn’t resemble sweat so much as the juices dripping from the crisped and cracking skin of a roasted chicken. I wanted to sink my teeth into him.

I thought it was interesting how Anna always referred to Annaliese’s mom and dad as ‘the mom’ and ‘the dad.’ Every single time. I got so used to it that I stopped noticing it after a while. But it helped to convey that she truly didn’t believe that she was Annaliese, even when she couldn’t remember her past. She felt like an impostor.

The characters were pretty good. I liked Anna and I enjoyed following the journey she took in finding herself. I loved Dex! The romance was sweet – even though it moved a little fast, it wasn’t in a bad way. Eric creeped me out! He was slimy and I couldn’t stand him.

I don’t want to say too much about this one because I don’t want to give it away, but I loved the background story. Again, probably just because it was so twisted. All of the girls and the Physician, the spell and the promise. Especially the ritual! The first scene regarding it I was like whaa did she just…? She did! That’s a little bit sick, dude…

It was kinda awesome though! I haven’t read anything like it before. I do recommend giving it a try, especially if you’re a fan of horror or twisted paranormal stories. This book isn’t for everyone, and I can see how some might not enjoy it. I think it’s hit or miss, but it was a hit for me!

Sometimes it was just so fucking wonderful to be alive.

“Things happen in life. Things don’t go the way you plan. And when they do, it doesn’t feel the way you thought it would.”

My name is Emily and I am 24 =) I am from Tacoma, Washington but am currently living in Vermillion, South Dakota for Law School!

How long have you been blogging? What made you want to start a book blog?

I started my blog in May of 2011 but didn’t start actively blogging until November. So in November it will be 2 years! I started my blog because I did a review of Hunger Games on Goodreads and people messaged me asking if I had a blog. I was like “ummm…no…what’s a blog?” Then I started surfing around and finally was like “Ok! I can do one of these”

What do you do when you’re not blogging or reading?

I just finished my second year of Law School so I’m usually studying. This summer I am interning with the Elk Pointe, South Dakota Prosecutor’s office so if I’m not reading/blogging I’m out prosecuting misdemeanor crimes.

What is your favorite part about blogging? Least favorite?

My favorite thing about book blogging is hearing back that my review helped someone in their decision to read a book. I also really like getting to know other bloggers and reading enthusiasts on Twitter.

My least favorite thing is getting behind and not getting to read the books I want to. I have books that have been sitting on my shelf for ages that I really want to read but because I’m so behind on my review schedule I feel like I will never get to them.

[Jessi] I know the feeling! I’ve got all these books I bought that I’m dying to read but can’t because review books come first =/

Where did you come up with the name for your blog?

When I first started my blog was called Emi’s Book Blog because I am totally and completely unoriginal. Then I wanted to do some kind of play on words and after a while I finally settled on “Falling for YA” ‘Cause I review YA lit and I’m falling for it, Get it?! (Random Note: I’m also terrible at word play).

Do you have any specific book bloggers that inspire you?

I really like Hayley @ YA-Aholic’s blog, her reviews have gotten me in to more Indie Reads. I am also constantly amazed with the girls at Nawanda Files! They run both an awesome book blog and YA Book Exchange, I don’t know how the do it. Katie’s Book Blog is also one that inspires me she has a good variety of content and her opinions on reviews usually mirror my own.

What do you look for in a blog when following? What are your pet peeves?

I look for good content and consistent posting. If you post something once every 3 weeks I’m not likely to follow you, if I’m really interested I will come back in a couple weeks and see if there is anything new.

My biggest pet peeve is cluttered blogs with too much crap on the sidebar and overly bright or too dark font colors. I also hate small type or overly large type. Keep things normal and I will be fine.

What’s your favorite book(s)?

My favorite book overall is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald it is the only book I re-read almost every year.

My favorite recent-ish releases are:
Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan
The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
In The Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters

Favorite author?

Sarah Rees Brennan and Maggie Stiefvater (I also love both of these authors blogs!)

What is the biggest turn off for you when you’re reading a book?

Poor character development/exploration. I like characters with some body and back story behind them. If your characters are just cookie cutters I don’t want to read about them.

What first draws you to a book to make you want to read it?

I actually stopped reading blurbs recently and started to pick books pretty much exclusively based on cover and what other bloggers have to say about them. I kept noticing that blurbs gave things away and I want to be genuinely surprised when I’m reading.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Outgoing. Funny. Loud.

Name a random fact about yourself.

I studied abroad in Japan.

Do you have a job? If so, what do you do?

I have one more year of Law School and then I hope to work in Criminal law, preferably Prosecution. I’ve also played around with the idea of becoming a Law Librarian =)

What did you want to be when you were little? Has that changed?

I wanted to be a Dolphin trainer for a while but in middle school I realized I hated science so I decided to become a lawyer and haven’t switched yet!

[Jessi] DUDE I feel the same way about being an Orca trainer! That’s my dream job, but damned if I’d be a marine biologist to do it, baha.

Randomness

Cats or dogs?
Cats!! I have 2 and I’m working on becoming a crazy cat lady.

Favorite animal?
ALL THE ANIMALS! My Mom used to call me Elmyra from the Looney Toons (Ok, she still calls me that). I was the child who brought home stray animals of all types. (This is Elmyra for those too young to remember her)

White, dark, or milk chocolate?
Milk chocolate.

Coke or Pepsi?
COKE!

Favorite TV show?
I really love Supernatural and Doctor Who.

Movie?
Zoolander.

Color?
It changes every day but today I really like Turquoise.

Thanks for being here today, Emily! It was great getting to know you! :)
