Here is a Ojibwa Bandolier bag I found on eBay.com they want 22,000.00 for it Hurry and go buy it for your collection. I notice the bottom of this bag has very interesting tassels notice where they are attached, I am wondering what is these symbols and there meanings. Very interesting.

I am working on a few designs today for bags this year and one is a Bandolier Bag. Have a great day and don't forget to look on eBay for beadwork designs a great source.

Working on dolls

I am currently working on dolls, I have been having issues with my Asthma and the wood burning fireplaces in the neighborhood. So, I try to stay indoors as much as possible but living with elderly parents I have found myself having to go grocery shopping for them, doctor appointments, medicine refills and has been very exhausting for me since my health has not been up to par like I want it to be. I am working on a new website and for Aural Studios but that is a slow process, but when it is done and you see a product you can purchase it right there and not have to go to other websites.

Last Bag Left!!

I only have one Bandolier bag left and one pending a sale. I will be making a new collection of Bandoliers next year.

Next Year-- I will have to think of a theme and all seven bags will be in a story theme and they will not be able for sale right away. These bags are going in a gallery. What gallery you may ask?-- uhmm-- don't know yet, it all depends who asks me first for 2013.

The Bear Clan Bag - "Gatherers, Protectors of the Earth"Won Best of Show Ribbon 2005

August: Fruit Moon [Ga-lo-ni]
The Wild Potato Clan were the farmers and gatherers of the wild potato plants. Protectors of the earth. This clan was also known as the Bear Clan, Raccoon Clan, and the Blind Savannah Clan. Clan color is Green. Clan Wood is Birch. This was the time of the gatherers would go out and gather the berries and other fruits.
I created this bandolier bag when I lived in California. This bag won Best of Show. My inspiration for this bag was when I was watering my blackberry plant in my back yard, and noticed the beautiful white flower.
The beaded paw print with the Cherokee symbol of the sun is for happiness. Bears love blackberries,I did this bag for the times I picked blackberries with my Grandma.
This bag won Best of Show at the San Bernardino County Fair in Victorville, CA in 2005.

I am working on cowls and scarfs for a couple of designers for A. Martin & Co. so I have been busy with that and my college classes, I have one left and then I can devote more time to all my projects.

Having multiple chemical sensitivity and I do know I must have seasonal affective disorder, everything fits most of the symptoms just fit how I am. This is so unfair, but I have to do my best to work on my projects and get them done. If anyone of you have these health problems you can feel free to comment on this blog.

I will keep you updated.

Do you do gardening?

I know it is about to be Fall, but we have tomatoes growing and zucchini. I was at the coffee shop and they had a huge bag of old coffee grounds and the label said FREE, of course I could not resist. I was able to take it home and we are going to use it for our flower and garden area.
Coffee grounds are a great bug repellent I found out. I am very allergic to chemicals and this is a great tip to know.
If you do not drink the coffee, The coffee shop does not care if you take the coffee grounds for your garden. My gardener has the fun job of putting the grounds in my garden.

Made a bag for Fashion Night Out

I was preoccupied by making a bag for Industrial Designer- Evan my son. He had a vision of a certain style Inspired by De Stijl (neoplasticism) . Color blocking trend is back for this year. We started with the orginal style of using just the primary colors: blue, red, yellow along with the black, and white.
I wanted to let you know why I have not been beading and completing my projects. Sorry for that, I do have a few orders of this bag.

I am hoping to get back to beading next week- I will keep you updated.

Cherokee Green Corn Bandolier

This bandolier is made out of green velvet.

I am working on the straps still since I lived in Oregon--- Why did I not finish it?

This project I set aside because I lost interest in working on it. I have to design the straps, so that is why I have not finished it. I wanted to show it off and the corn flower star pattern is interesting.

I took the idea from a corn Hawaiian quilt. I guess the quilt artist did not comment at all about me asking her if I could use it for my beadwork design. So, I did change the whole pattern. I like asking people about a design or picture before I make my beadwork it is just something I do, and respect for other artists. Please leave any comments on this beadwork...

Spoonflower.com is a website that you can make your own fabric designs, and you can make them available to sell. This is a good way to make additional money. What a great way to get your designs on fabric!
I recommend Spoonflower because they have contests, and good quality fabrics to pick from. They are having a free swatch day until August 19th till noon. Don't lose out on this great offer on fabric and unique designs from other artists.

I think they need more Native American fabric designers. I searched on their site and they do not have a a big selection. If you are going to try this please post a comment back here and let me know so I and others who follow this blog can go and check out your designs.

PinCushion workshop update

Should we make a doll or pincushion doll? I am looking into a better way to make my how to pages better so it is easier to follow. Any ideas or suggestions please let me know. I love to have your input on our next project, I am thinking about the following ideas.

Before

I am working on her boots this is not easy to do. I cut vinyl for the bottom of the shoe and faux suede for the boots, all the materials I am using is upcycled fabrics. I made her a Love message heart bag with fringe. . I did a little more research and found that Choctaw dresses have an apron. So, I added a few more details.

Why did I use a green honeycomb pattern fabric, only because I love the patterns in the fabric, I want to give a lil modern look but keep the traditional look. This doll is one of kind. I am adding more trim and beads, should be done in two weeks or less.

Update on Pincushion and doll

Pincushion beadwork is done by keeping the drawing on the backside and following your artwork and put the needle and thread through your template drawing. This way you keep everything in its place. I should have been doing more beading but I have three projects I am working on.

I am adding beadwork to my doll pincushions because it needed more beads. I am also going to make a pincushion that fits inside of the dolls handmade coil pot that she holds.

Pattern for Tuesday

Here is our pattern sorry for it being sideways I tried everything to correct it and it is stubborn! and will not turn for this blog. It is straight on my desktop, but when I upload it it turns, all I can say is print it off and you will have it.

Here is a Rough Sketch of the pattern we will be using to make our pincushion. I love pin cushions Whimsy's the beadwork that Iroquois, Mohawks, and other tribes have made them to sell in gift shops in the early 1800's-1900's. According to a collector of Whimsy beadwork :

Research shows: "The Iroquois (“Hodenausuanee”) Confederacy are made up of the Six Nations of Mohawk, Seneca, Tuscarora, Oneida, Cayuga and Onondaga." There is much more history to read from her website about the Northeastern Native American Tribes.

I love the beadwork, and I am not an expert on this type of beadwork. My attempt to this type of beadwork is the bag pictured below, and it is for sale on Ebay.com. It is a pattern based on the 1960's - when beaded bags were all the rage, and the beadwork is something I picked up from some of the Whimsy's I saw.

I love the birds, and the leaves so I wanted to make a bag that would make a statement that Native American Whimsy beadwork is very beautiful and my intentions are to hope to bring new collectors in to research that type of beadwork and start collecting the real Whimsy beadwork.
