28th June 2009 my Uncle, Arther Webb, husband to Margaret Webb, father to Steven Webb, Tony Webb, Ronnie Webb, Andrew Webb, Linda and grandfather to many has passed away.

In my previous blog to this, I also mentioned that my Aunty Margaret (Webb) was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

How can one have faith when life keeps dealing these blows.

When you start to think this world may just have a little decency in it, when MP’s are thrown out for thieving from the public and this country starts to save some money when the government was saying we need to pay higher taxes to line their pockets, you then realise there is more to life than that what those blood sucking leaches are trying to steal.

I suppose in that paragraph I was talking metaphorically by indirectly implying that MP’s and our government are the cancer of Briton eating away at our every day lives…………………………

This week we have been given another blow to our family, in 2005 I lost my father to cancer, a year later his brother, my uncle and this weekend we learnt the shocking news that my Aunty Margaret has terminal cancer of the stomach. Currently my mother, her sister is on vacation in Spain and as a family we elected not to ruin her holiday by telling her, but this is killing me in side every time she calls I just want to tell her, even as an adult I just want to hug her and have her tell me everything will be OK, I realise this is the selfish child in me wanting to know there are no wrongs in this world when in fact that’s far from the truth. I still miss those cuddles with my father, he remained strong through out the battle against cancer, he was my rock and my inspiration and in life I aspire to be more like him although by my own admission I always fall short.

Cancer is horrible it slowly eats away at you, my father had lung cancer which slowly deprived him of oxygen, he went from being a big strong man into bone, he lost so much weight and now I can see this again in my Aunt and it’s heartbreaking. When people ask why I no longer have faith in any religion then this is my answer, how can I have faith something which is killing the people I love when we do nothing wrong.

Now back onto the government part and for a reason, my father was miss diagnosed, he had a reacurring chest infections which his GP just kept suppressing with antibiotics and never sent him for a scan, it took a bout of pneumonia to get the scans needed to find the two tumours in his left and right lung. Later he was given a prescription from a GP which he went and handed into his usual pharmacist, the pharmacist realised instantly that if he had taken this medication it would have reacted with his other medication and killed him instantly. Now if he had not used the usual pharmacist then the pharmacist would not have known my fathers normal medication and would have happily given it him.

Now for the last few months they’ve been treating my Aunt for gallstones when it turns out it was actually cancer, she had complained to GP for a while before that about stomach issues (pains, cramps, etc) but again nothing was ever done and now because of the misdiagnosis and inactions of some over paid idiots my Aunt and our family have to suffer yet again!

In this day and age when the NHS says “We need more funds, we simply don’t have enough money to function correctly” and the government says “We need more funds, we’re not stealing enough money”, it makes you wonder at what price we, the public have to pay to get a competent level of service for what we pay for, huh even the bin men can’t do their jobs properly (we had a rat jump out of our bin the other day)…….

Either way you look at this, the government, the local GP’s and the NHS are killing our family………………………..

I was going to end on that comment, but felt it wrong because not all the NHS is failing, I have had good experiences albeit not that many.

The government are like the Sheriffs of Nottingham, rob from the poor to pay the rich. Could one of the other parties like UKIP be our Robin Hood, or are they all filthy, robbing, scum?

We use to have all our services with One And One Internet, they had our domain names, servers, etc, etc. We trusted them and they started out good, well that didn’t last.

Their poor customer service and technical knowhow, we had managed servers which didn’t give us root access, everything had to go through them, knightmare is an understatement.

They billed us for things we didn’t have, when we called for tech support we ended up giving them tech support to change simple things on our server for example one domain name had wild card (allows *.domain.com aka anything.domain.com to work, allowing a script to handle the url an example of this would be for use in WPMU) but others didn’t well it took an hour of explaining before they said they couldn’t do it because the servers were managed which we all know is absolute rubbish.

In January of 2009 they illegally took a direct debit which we explicitly kept telling them not to, as a result we incurred a charge from our bank because it was processed days before we had funds available. Their response is they can’t do anything because it’s automated, well in the UK it is illegal to take a Direct Debit when they are not given permission and instructed to cancel it. Our bank won’t give us the charge back so we are contemplating legal action against them for theft. So we moved them to Paypal for billing and told our bank to never allow them the opportunity to take payment again.

Anyway we moved our servers away and we started moving our domain names well now they keep trying to bill us for domains that are not under them as a registrar. We knew they would try for payment and so revoked their access to do so with Paypal also. This is what they sent us:

We regret to inform you that your current PayPal merchant agreement limit is not sufficient to cover your recent invoice at 1&1.

To which I replied (Keep in mind I’ve already had a long dialogue with, e-mails, telephone calls and still I wasn’t getting anywhere):

I regret to inform you that your a bunch of idiots.

Hmmmm surely something is wrong here because obviously I did, and they replied to it. duhhh!
So another e-mail from me to them:

I’m not paying because you are not the Registrar of most of those
domains!!!!!!

Timothy Bowers

Guess what? Yeah you got it, some more from them:

Dear Timothy Bowers, (Cust: ********)

Thank you for your email.

Just to inform you that the outstanding amount (£44.77) on your account,
is for the renewal of your domain names: yorkshireparanormal.net,
yorkshireparanormal.com, ghosts-uk.co.uk, northernparanormal.com,
hauntedengland.co.uk which are still registered with 1and1.

If you have any further questions do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards
Laure Mukoswa
Billing Department
1&1 Internet Ltd.

So I sent another which was the last one (11th May 2009) with no reply from them:

No they are not registered with you!!!!

Look at the whois database and it will show you that you are not the
registrar:

http://whois.domaintools.com/yorkshireparanormal.net

http://whois.domaintools.com/yorkshireparanormal.com

http://whois.domaintools.com/northernparanormal.com

http://whois.domaintools.com/hauntedengland.co.uk

http://whois.domaintools.com/ghosts-uk.co.uk

So how you can not comprehend that this bill will not be paid because
you are not the registrar is beyond me!!!!

Yawn your illegal activities really do become tiresome. You still owe me
money for illegally taking a direct debit at the beginning of the year.

Kindest Regards

Timothy Bowers

They are also now trying to do it for another domain name so I sent them this:

This is another domain name which is registered with another registrar.

Get a grip, this is pathetic.

http://whois.domaintools.com/ghosts-uk.com

Kindest Regards

Timothy Bowers

I really hate how much time this wastes for me, if it’s not one company it’s another. Currently we’re also taking legal action again Concept Solutions because of a incompetent job done on our garage, I really don’t want to go through this with One And One but it seems they may leave me little choice…………….

Possibly to be continued…..

Well I still have the DTG Kiosk Paper weight, unsuccessful in selling it on and as you read in my earlier blogs about the way YES LTD scammed me into it I was unable to return despite their promise.

All in all I’ve had some 15 to 20 people who’ve contact me with similar complaints about YES LTD, some had agreed to have their story published but then backed out, others didn’t wish to because of their continuing working relationship with YES LTD.

I have to note though that I’ve seen little if any complaints about the American counterparts who distribute these machines and I wounder why. Some suggested different climates cause didn’t issues for machines which I can appreciate and then another suggestion was made that perhaps it was relating to the actual training given. I’ve had two offers from people whom believe they can offer sound advice to make this machine work as expected, one has offered to give me some kind of tuition over the phone to get me on the right track.

Because of these offers I’ve decided that perhaps the machine should be given another go, so I’ve started to source a new print head because no doubt this one will be no good now, although I will test it first, I’m also trying to find a source for dampers and await some feed back from a company. I’ve also found a new supplier of DTG inks within the UK which seems very promising indeed.

I’ve received a fair bit of advice who a chap in the UK who runs what seems a fairly successful company with this machine although he’s had many, many issues and blatently also thinks very little of YES LTD. I believe he also still screen or silk prints for larger orders (this is his heritage into the fabric printing world).

No doubt it will take a while for me to find all the funds required for this, so I’m not sure at what point this year it will happen, but when it does I guess I’ll be going back into business. I’m a little more optimistic this time based on the advice I’ve received and this whole recession thing isn’t of major concern to me.

On a side note, a few weeks ago my domain registrars forwarded me a mail, it seems YES LTD were trying to find out the webmaster of this site, but my registrar refused to divulge my details and just passed it to me. I replied to YES LTD politely reminding them who I was and asked how I could help them. So far, no reply!

And finally to add, it seems only moments after YES LTD supplied us with the DTG Kiosk, they launched a new version called the DTG Kiosk HM1 (HM-1) , maybe they were just eager to throw the older model out of the door at as quicker pace a they could so then they could entice the companies back with a newer version within months. (They still stock the DTG Kiosk as well).

A little late on the news with this one, but I just noticed that Magento 1.2 had been released and finally we now have downloadable products!

http://www.magentocommerce.com/blog/comments/magento-version-120-is-now-available/

I did however have some issues which required resolving in order to use the new downloadable products and various options in the system config settings when upgrading from 1.1.8.

If you get an error looking like the following then just complete the instructions below:

Warning: include(Mage/Adminhtml/Model/System/Config/Backend/Catalog/Search/Type.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /htdocs/app/code/core/Mage/Core/functions.php on line 73

For some reason the upgrade in Magento Connect doesn’t create some directories and the new files required hence the ” failed to open stream: No such file or directory” message, because it simply can’t find what it’s looking for.

Simply download the full package from Magento for 1.2 then upload some folders, I found by uploading the following two (the ones missing in the above message) resulted in more errors:

app/code/core/Mage/Adminhtml/Model/System/Config/Backend/Catalog/

app/code/core/Mage/Adminhtml/Model/System/Config/Source/Catalog/

So…….. To save me more headaches I just grabbed all the folders in the root for Magento and uploaded them, when my FTP asked me to confirm overwriting I choose “No To all”, it then proceeded to upload the files that the upgrade for some reason missed. (Just make sure you don’t overwrite your settings and such, choosing no to overwriting will ensure you only upload files not currently on your server).

You might need to set the permissions recursively again! (In the CLI: chmod -R 777 htdocs (Or wherever the your root magento install is))

I was driving into town today to pick Helen up from work along with my mother and aunt Margaret (Bingo players ;-)) I noticed on a side road (open view and wide road) was a vehicle that had a flat tyre and a young lady in her possible 50’s, I thought to myself it was still light and she was most likely waiting for the AA or something.

On my return it was starting to get dark and she was still there, so I decided I’d drop my mother and aunt off first and then come back after all it was only 5 minutes or so away.

Now this is not the first time I’ve done this sort of thing, the other month a chap out side was struggling to get his car going so I went out then drove him to petrol station to get a fuel canister filled up and then back, a few months prior to that I pulled over on a country lane to offer assistance to another driver with a flat tyre. It’s just the sort of thing I do because I’d like to think if one of my family or I ever needed help then someone would offer it.

Anyway, so Helen and I returned back to where the car was and the lady was sat in, I walked up to the window and offered my help to change her tyre, well it seemed she’d managed to get hold of her son and he was on his way I insisted I could help if she wanted but she said no and thanked me. She also stated that I was the second person to stop and offer help.

So two people in total stopped to offer help, lets do a little math here.

Busy road, perhaps 100 cars going on 1 side ever 5 minutes, I was gone maybe an hour so that’s approx 1200 cars on one side of the road which never even thought a stranded driver might need help, perhaps they never saw the flat or the fact that the car was parked at an obscure angle as if it had turned around to park in the middle of the road pretty much on the exit of a road junction.

* These numbers are rough, there could have been a lot more. It was probably something more like 1 every second or 2 so 60 a minute is 3600 an hour.

This just seems to tie in with the whole Woolworth’s post I made, people are only bothered about themselves and what they can get out of everything. Now just imagine if that was your aunt, gran, mother, sister, daughter, son, brother, father, grandfather or uncle, wouldn’t you want someone to help them?

Well the community support people have been round, they looked at the photo’s and seem to think it’s perfectly fine to leave the handles right into the hedge even knowing that the wife and I might be away occasionally leaving my 72 year old mother to struggle with the wheely bin alone, there reply was “Can’t you ask one of your neighbours to help her”, we barely even speak to our neighbours most of time, everyone is always busy with their own life’s. My mothers not eligible to have the bin taken out and brought back in because the wife and I live here also.

Disgusting if you ask me!

They made the excuse of “that’s how the bin comes off the truck” so they can just toss it over to one side.

That’s OK though because next week I’ll be doing the exact same thing, only difference is the bin will be heavier due to the rubbish being in it and I’ll continue to do this for a long time to come, oh joy, what fun!

Well we abstained from blogging about this for nearly two years now and we’re not getting any further with the company so here it is.

In January of 2007 we contact Concept Solutions to repair a simple garage roof, it seems that their keen eye for odd job men who don’t seem to have any high level of skill is key in their day to day running of the company.

Up until 2008 we tried dealing with them on the phone but it was rather apparent we were getting nowhere so we moved onto letter as this was a more credible source of proof we had been patient and willing to let them correct the issues at hand, the last letter was recorded delivery, anyway here are the letters we sent them:

Note: Although my letters may seem a little harsh at first, this was due to the issue already taking over a year to resolve and still this company were incompetent and dragging their feet.

RE: Work conducted at xx Windmill Ave.

Dear Mr Mason & Concept Solutions.

It has become rather apparent that you are incompetent and unable complete a simple job. If I don’t receive a satisfactory reply and proof that you have at least started making provisions to correct your mistake within 14 days, I will start to make this issue public knowledge, accompanied by images of your job as proof. I presume you are also aware of my ties to highly searched and indexed websites. In addition we will also seek legal representation.

I am informed by a representative of Concept Solutions that I should write this letter to you and also send a copy to them for records during an internal investigation into your poor conduct. As a franchisee you work for and represent the interests of Concept Solutions.

When we hired your firm to for the original job on our garage roof, we didn’t hire a sub-contractor, we hired Concept Solutions, we hired and dealt with you ‘Richard Mason’. You in turn hired a sub-contractor to represent your interests.

I will now detail the issues. At the beginning of 2007 Concept Solutions was contacted for a quotation relating to a damaged roof. Your quotation was acceptable to our insurance company and you where charged with the job at hand. You arranged dates, I believe about 3 in total and all of them missed although on two occasions, two different sets of builders came to reassess the job. Finally the job began with some flimsy materials, your workforce secured it with one (1) wooded beam. I questioned if this rubber based material would be suitable for a flat roof, and if it had sufficient support. I was given your companies assurances that this was made to last and that I shouldn’t have issues.

Water then started to accumulate on the roof during rainy weather. Funny enough in the parts of the roof with no support and because the roof material was rubber based it started to flex a little where the water had accumulated slowly placing more and more strain on the roof.

I then informed you ‘Concept Solutions’ of this issue. You sent out the original builder back out again and he placed in more support towards the back of the garage. But the material was already out of shape and still lacked further support to the front of the garage. And guess what, yes this is a rhetorical question and yes water did accumulate again.

We went on vacation over Christmas and on returning the roof had given way in the area’s with no support and the area’s that had already been misshaped by rain. The water accumulation caused by your work was just too much for your shabby job.

I don’t have exact dates to hand but it wasn’t until February maybe even late March that the roof was replaced with a concrete solution, you may also note that the first appointment was missed. We couldn’t access the garage because of where the roof had caved in from lack of support it had blocked the garage door from the inside.

In your words “I have to admit this certainly isn’t one of the better jobs we’ve done”, was this an understatement or was it in fact up to your usual standards, missed appointments, incorrect materials, lack of structural support.

Once access had been gained, we realised all the personal belongings stored in the garage were ruined, this included items we had stored for friends. It was requested that you provide at least two (2) skips, a cleaning service and compensation to which you agreed after confirming yourself that the job was done incompetently.

If you had acted promptly, we may have been possible to salvage and save a lot of the things in the garage, however true to your ever evolving colours, you acted slowly and incompetently.

You ‘Richard Mason’ arranged a date to come and clean the mess, one which you cancelled and arranged a week later. At least this time you informed me of the cancellation unlike all previous failed appointments with Concept Solutions.

A skip turned up (1 Skip), you personally turned up with one other member of staff but not as Concept Solutions, this time masquerading as a cleaning company which I believe was ‘ServiceMaster’ I have a business card somewhere and can confirm if needed.

You then went through the garage clearing away the still water which was brown and murky with a stench worse than any I had smelled before, covering personal belongings and the live vermin which ran around in there. You threw away some personal items we could never get back again and items our friends and other family members could never ever see again.

Amongst those were photo’s of our friends baby, their belongings were stored whilst they moved house. Now they have no photo’s of their child as a baby at all. Photo’s of my brothers child, these were not replaceable and now our family only have one or two photo’s. Our memories in pictures have gone for ever. Baby cloths, and toys too. The more physical stuff, cloths, sofa’s, TV’s, PC’s, washing machines and much more.

There was a full garage of stuff from front to back and floor up, all ruined because you and your company ‘Concept Solutions’ where incompetent at your job and you admitted this on numerous occasions.

That day you filled the skip and still half the garage remained but you informed me you had to leave by two so would return the following week to complete the job but you didn’t. Your now claiming your insurance company believe your employee should pay. But remember, we employed you ‘Concept Solutions’ not anyone else, we agreed to you completing the job.

I couldn’t give a damn who pays for this mess, but one of you will. I have photo’s of every stage of your job and I will make them public, I will also seek legal action.

Here is what we now expect:

Compensation: £15,000

Return Fee Of Job: Some £900

I’m sick and tired of hearing your apologies they make me feel sick to the bone. You had already accepted blame on numerous occasions but yet again your trying to find more ways to worm out of this complete mess your company has made.

We employed your company as we believed you where capable of simple tasks, however it seems lack of basic structural support lead to this. When I last spoke with your contractor he informed me you provisioned the materials and to him he may only use the cheap rubber like material which was no good for a flat roof. Despite my questioning this at the time, you instructed him he must use the materials and there were no other options. So regardless of how you look at this the fault and blame is still with you, the company we paid to fulfil the work.
