Water saving is a major point for swimming pool holders. A swimming pool consumes 22,000 to 60,000 liters of water daily. This article helps you about water filtration, check chemical balance or leaks and how to correct water level.

The average domestic swimming pool holds somewhere between 22,000-60,000 liters of water. This amount is usually a once-only fill quantity and from then on the pool needs only to be topped up from time to time. Savings can be made both in costs and water usage by limiting the frequency and water quantity used in topping up.

Drought & Desalination: Is Turning to Seawater the Ideal

Climate change, drought, water restrictions - when you mention the name of Australia as a country, these are just some of the terms which become associated with it. Although these environmental issues are not exclusive to Australia, the fact that desalination plants are planned to be built in Sydney, South Australia, Victoria and Perth are causes for alarm.

<img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3106/2759729794_a8bb66188d.jpg?v=0" alt="Oceanic drilling rig the height of a 22-storey building makes a stopover.
Read on to find out why and whether or not the process of desalination really is the ideal solution for the country's drought problem.

AustConserv hasn't even been running for a year yet but we're almost ready to celebrate a few milestones.

First being the 200th business to list in the business directory. We're currently at 199 businesses and just waiting one more to make it to 200. We've decided for the 200th business that we'll do a a little website public relations and help promote the business to the eco community a little better.

Biggest Cuttlefish in the World at Risk due to South Australia's Desalination Plant?

No matter which part of the world it is that you visit, you are bound to stumble upon a man-made structure which has a negative impact on its surrounding natural resources. Although prior studies about the possible ill-effects of a construction are conducted - you will never really know what the long-term effects are to the environment until it's already too late.

Will the same fate hold true for the supposedly bountiful sea life that South Australia has once the desalination plant has finished its construction? That is what we will try to find out here.

Australians called to recycle their old mobile phones and help thousands of koalas affected by the bush fires

Australians can assist thousands of native animals through Koaladoors Inc Koaladoors Project by supporting MobileMuster and Landcare Australia's 'Old Phones, More Trees' campaign and simply recycle their old mobile phones at mobile phone retailers and selected businesses and local councils, during the month of May and until World Environment Day - June 5.

MobileMuster, the official recycling program of the mobile phone industry and Landcare Australia launched the 2009 'Old Phones, More Trees' campaign today, with MobileMuster ambassador and former Miss Australia, Laura Dundovic, at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney.

The 'Old Phones, More Trees' campaign, now in its third year, is a joint initiative, where native trees are planted for all mobile phones handed in for recycling throughout May and until World Environment Day.

Cairns, Australia--Sustainable Travel International (STI) recently announced that it has established a branch in Australia in response to the growing global demand for "green" travel products and services. The primary focus of the new Australian branch, located in Cairns, will be to offer an improved service to companies and consumers in Australia. The branch's establishment marks STI's expansion into the Oceania market.

STI is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting responsible tourism, supporting sustainable development, and helping travelers and travel providers protect the environments and cultures they visit.

STI President Brian T. Mullis said, "We are very excited by the possibilities that a presence in the region will afford us. The new Cairns office enables us to better respond to the needs of our growing customer base."

Reduce Your Carbon Footprint when Travelling

Travelling less and travelling together helps to reduce carbon footprint. Here are a few ways that you can help reduce your carbon foot print when you're travelling around the world or just to and from work.

Sharing of car to work or carpooling.

Make sure your car is tuned and in tip top condition. An untuned car can be very inefficient.

Check your tyre pressure. A deflated tyre means more resistance on the tyre and more wear and tear, not to meantion the safety factors.

Public transport to be used rather than own car.

Work from home at least once a week. (If your boss lets you :) )

Drive a fuel efficient car, try a diesel powered engine or even a hybrid.

Ride a scooter or a motorbike.

While on a vacation, explore locally by hiring a bicycle rather than the car.

When staying in a hotel, turn off the lights and air-conditioning off before going out.

Buy carbon credits to offset your plane flights.

Taking little steps together can make a huge difference. Change the way you think and live and help save the planet.
