On tonight a little after midnight I think. Looks a very competitive race. Like Paco Boy but with it dropping back in distance I will give it a miss. Scenic Blast favourite on betfair at $2.76, while Takeover Target is at $17's.

AFL - Round 15

Predicting a couple of upsets this weekend in AFL.

Western Bulldogs, at $1.63 on betfair, deserve to be favourites for tonight's clash against Collingwood and we expect them to be too good for the magpies - so we will get on at this price.

Carlton at $1.30 are very short, even though they are playing Richmond. Carlton have been too up and down this season to lump on at short odds. Had a look at Richmond with a 24.5 point start paying $1.92 but don't fancy that either - so we will skip this game.

Was looking to back Essendon this week but they are no value at $2.30 on betfair. Have done a turn-around and will in fact have a small bet on the Sydney with a minus 8.5 point start at $2.02.

After watching the bruising encounter last Sunday between St Kilda and Geelong, we thought Brisbane may have been a chance against the Cats this week. When we heard that 4 Cats were out injured last night only made us a feel more confident. So we will back Brisbane at $3.15 to win. And then when we heard Travis Johnstone was dropped by the Lions we decided to double our wager!!!

Adeliade should beat Fremantle but at $1.15 don't offer value.

While I'm not sure if anyone would feel comfortable taking the $1.54 on offer for Hawthorn in their match. If we were to bet in this match then the $2.78 on offer for North Melbourne looks attractive - but again we will watch on.

We were expecting Melbourne to be longer odds than $3.05 to beat Port Adelaide. But we will take some of the $2 being offered for Melbourne with a 17.5 point start.

In the final game we will have a small wager on the home team West Coast with a 32.5 point start against St Kilda.

Golf - The Open Championship Early Thoughts

Fancy taking on some of the English players in the open, so Casey, Donald, Westwood, Poulter (twat!) won't win but I do think Oliver Wilson could go well at a big price.

Early punts:

When betfair offer the Swedes as one bet; get on -why back 1 fool when ya can back 10 at once! 8-1 would be a fair price.

Woods if his price goes above $3.50, currently best priced at $3 but sometimes the market drifts the day before tee off.

Oliver Wilson at 125-1 goes about his business nicely. Ogilvy at 40-1 is also worth a bet.

Tim Wilkinson, from New Zealand, is a favourite of the revolution and at $990 we have had a dollar each way

Cricket - The Ashes 1st Test

Fancy taking on Australia in the first test starting this week in Cardiff. You could of layed the Aussies at $2.70 yesterday, but that has drifted out to $3 after Brett Lee announced he would not be playing. It's meant to rain during the week in Wales - and I'm not sure if they will have the roof open or closed at millennium stadium.

Will back Australia to win the series 2-1 which is paying $8.60 on betfair

EDIT: They are not playing at the Millennium stadium at all so the weather will come into play - watch out for that welsh weather.

Andy Roddick at $3.90 looks very good value tonight in his clash with Andy Murray. There will be enourmos amount of pressure on Murray and he did have a marathon five seter in his last match.

We hope Tommy Haas wins and he too looks good value at over $11 on betfair. But for anyone to beat Federer is a tall order. We will have a small bet on Tommy Haas at $11.50, but we will probably go loooking at other angles for action on this game - maybe set betting. Federer to win 3 sets to 2 is paying over $10's...

AFL - Round 14 Update

A very profitable round last week, with all but one of our selections getting home... for this round:

A little surprised that Collingwood are $1.50 favourites for tonight's clash. Although they probably deserve to be favourites there is not much difference between the teams. We will back Essendon at $2.82.

On Saturday we have selected Melbourne at $2.06 to defeat West Coast, hoping the Dee's will rise to the occasion for Jimmy, but with the demons record over the last two years punters should be cautious backing a team that has only won a handful of games.

Brisbane at $1.64 should win away against Port Adelaide if it considers itself as a genuine contender this year. Same goes for Adelaide at $1.31 against Richmond, but at $1.31 there is not much value - so we will miss this game.

We are just waiting for Hawthorn to come good, which may or may not happen - but for this reason we will avoid the Western Bulldogs v Hawthorn clash.

On Sunday Sydney are $1.39 but playing at the SCG deserve to be short, and should be too strong for North Melbourne.

While in much anticipated "match of the year" Geelong's class will start to rise to the top, while there are still question marks about whether St Kilda are a true genuine team. For these reason we will get on Geelong at $1.62.

Finally we will miss the Fremantle v Carlton match for 2 reasons, 1. too hard and 2. don't care

Eclipse Stakes

Eclipse on Saturday and Sea the Stars is around 10/11. Winning the 2000Guineas and Derby (it only really raced for about 200 meters in the Derby) one would think that racing at 2000 meters should be ideal. Yes, winners of the Derby stepping back in trip have been beaten in the Eclipse but that should not be a problem.

Rip Van Winkle is 7-2 which is no value given it was beaten by Sea The Stars on both runs this season. 3 years ago Oratorio won the Eclipse after being beat in the derby and 2000 guineas beating Motivator who had stuffed it in the Derby but Oratorio won at 10-1, so how anyone can recommend Rip at 7-2 is beyond me.

YOUMZAIN beat at odds on last weekend in France. Keeps coming 2/3/4 with excuses. Aviod.

Missed last night but we have tipped 18 out of 21 winners so far in the tournament.

In tonight's action we will overlook both Federer and Williams, who should both win easy, as both are at less than $1.10 as we go searching for some slightly better value.

The lucky seven for tonight are Novak Djokovic at $1.28, Elena Dementieva at $1.11, Robin Solderling at $1.21, Nadia Petrova at $1.40, Marion Bartoli at $1.48, Daniela Hantuchova at $1.45 and Tommy Robredo at $1.76

AFL - Round 13

Start the weekend off by backing Essendon at $2.84 with betfair in tonight's match, which is good value.

Collingwood at $1.16 will be too good for Fremantle Saturday, while we will back Sydney with a 24.5 point start at $1.95 against Adelaide.

Don't be surprised if the demons give Brisbane a scare Saturday night in Brisbane. We will back Melbourne with a 44.5 point start at $1.95.

Hawthorn should win tomorrow night, but at $1.42 don't offer much value considering their recent form, and they are playing away - so we will give this game a miss.

Finally Geelong at $1.07, Western Bulldogs at $1.17 and StKilda at $1.12 will all be too good on Sunday and these make a perfect little multi - but at present this combination is only been offered at $1.35 through the AFL Accumulators markets on betfair.

Victoria Tightens Betting Ad Rules

The Government of the Australian State of Victoria has now approved a range of new rules prohibiting the offer of free bets, and irresponsible advertising. The move comes as pressure for a nationwide approach to the regulation of online wagering is gathering support.

The changes, which were passed into law last week as part of the Justice Legislation Amendment Bill 2009, mean gambling operators will no longer be able to offer inducements to consumers to open betting accounts.Victoria has now joined New South Wales (NSW) and South Australia in banning online gaming companies from offering free-bet promotions.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Racing Rob Hulls said consumers would be receive better protection under the new legislation which applies to both Victorian and interstate bookmakers.

“It will now be an offence for a wagering service provider to offer any credit, voucher or reward as an inducement to open a betting account,” he said

Bypassing the Betfair Minimum Bet

The minimum bet on Betfair in Australia is $5. However, placing a bet for under $5 is easy. There maybe a number of reasons you may want to bet less than the minimum, particular if you are new to betting exchanges, or you are keen to trial and practice betting systems or strategies you may be testing.

Anyway the following steps should guide you through, and after practicing a few times you will pick the steps up really quickly.

1. Select the event you require

2. Chose your selection. In this case we will choose Djokovic. The following will appear in ‘My Bets’

3. Change the odds to a significantly higher amount (e.g. $17 to $90) – make sure it’s high enough it will not be matched, then put $5 in the stake box, then press “Place Bet’. You will now see that the bet is unmatched, so click on ‘Go To My Bets’ and you will see the following window.

4. Change the stake amount ($5 to $7) then click submit

If all is going well the following will appear:

Betfair breaks the $7 bet into 2 parts – the original $5 and the additional $2

5. We now want to cancel the $5 wager, while at the same time reducing the odds for the $2 bet back to normal

6. Finally click submit and you will have placed a bet for less than the minimum bet

To lay for under $5. All you need to do is follow the same steps but instead of offering increasing the odds, you need to reduces the odds - offer $1.01 is a good idea

Sacred Kingdom at $3.80 to win the Golden Jubilee tonight. Big reports coming out of HK about how well it has settled and worked in the UK. A HK horse Cape of Good Hope won this race 4 or 5 years ago and this one is rated higher and has won more group 1's so has a good chance.

Although the game is being played at ANZ stadium tonight, and not the SCG, we still think Sydney might upset Collingwood, who are an average side that's overrated by many. Take the $2.20 0n offer for Sydney on betfair.

In the Sunday match, Fremantle came really close to beating Geelong in this corresponding match last year - and were infact unlucky not to win. But although Fremantle are a rabble this year we will back them with a 44.5 point start at $1.85 on betfair.

A number of top players missing this week at the US Open. Tiger in form though and will be very hard beat but at odds less than $3 there is little chance of making a killing. Instead we will concentrate on the market Winner W/O Tiger which still throws up some pretty good odds. Following on with our theme from Augusta we will back the following six golf, and make a good healthy profit if any salute Geoff Ogilvy $12, Paul Casey $18, Padraig Harrington $44, Camilo Villegas $36, Henrik Stenson $44 and Retief Goosen $36 are all good players and capable of coming 2nd to Tiger this weekend.

Ascot Gold Cup tonight with Yeats, who is well known in Australia after running in the Melbourne Cup a few years ago, going for his 4th Gold Cup win in a row. We might take this favourite on and have ago at the young 4yo Patkai at $4.50 on betfair.

In other races July Jasmine $7.60 in race 2, and Roman Republic $9.80 in race 4, look good each way bets.

While the Aidan O'Brien trained Freemantle $2.50 has been getting plenty of big wraps from the experts in blighty, although at that price it is not exactly value.

As mentioned yesterday fancy taking on the favourite Tartan Bearer in the Price of Wales Stakes run tonight. The 2nd favourite Vision D 'Etat offers good value at $4.70 on betfair.

Royal Ascot - Tuesday

First day of Royal Ascot so will have a small bet on the Aussie horse Scenic Blast at 3-1 in the Kings Stand, looks to have a good chance - winning a group 1 handicap in Oz under top weight last time.

Race card looks very competitive.

In tomorrow's big 2000m race thinking about taking on Tartan Bearer as it is 2-1 favourite. Vision D'Etat is 3-1 and won last year's French Derby and the group1 Prix Ganay last time and was only beat 3 1/2 lengths by Zarkava in last year's Arc so represents better value.
