The engine of the new Murciélago LP640 has undergone outstanding and radical modification. The increased bore and longer stroke have boosted the displacement of the classic 60° V-engine from 6.2 litres to 6.5 litres (6,496 cm3). McLaren's new supercar, the MP4-12C, which goes on sale in early 2011 with a price tag of about £150,000.

McLaren Automotive claims that "12C is the most efficient, most drivable high-performance sports car in the world".
The engine revs to 8,500rpm; 80 per cent of the torque is available below 2,000rpm. Although no official fuel economy figures are available yet, the car should end up with a CO2 g/km emissions figure somewhere in the 200s.

McLaren claims the car has more power per gram of CO2 than any car that's not fully electric; not so surprising given that most hybrids concentrate on economy rather than power, but impressive nonetheless.

A handling feature called Brake Steer, a development of an electronic system used by the F1 team, brakes the inside rear wheel when the car is entering a corner too quickly, to stop the car understeering. It also works on acceleration out of the corner when the inside rear might spin.

The engine propelling the 1409kg Dodge Hornet is a Tritec 1.6 liter intercooled supercharged 16-valve SOHC engine which makes 170 horsepower and 223Nm of torque at 4000rpm. This engine is the same one found in the MINI Cooper S, some Dodge Neon models and some Chrysler PT Cruiser models. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission
. The Tritec engine was originally developed by Chrysler and Rover, and is made in the Campo Largo factory in Brazil jointly owned by BMW and Daimler Chrysler, which was recently bought by the Lifan Group. Performance statistics are 6.7 seconds for the 0-100km/h test and a top speed of 209km/h.

The 2010 Dodge HornetIS 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine sending 122 horsepower to the front wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 4-speed automatic. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) could also be available if Nissan decides to share that. Other Versa features passing to Hornet should include front-disc power brakes with optional ABS, electric power steering for saving a little gas over a conventional hydraulic setup, front side airbags, and curtain side airbags. The no-cost card should also list active front head restraints (designed to minimize whiplash injury), air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, power mirrors, a split-fold rear seatback, variable-intermittent wipers, rear-window defroster, and rear wiper/washer. Options, too, will be much like Versa's, so look for power windows, power remote-entry door locks, a keyless entry and starting system, remote engine starting, power sunroof, satellite radio, and sporty styling add-ons including a spoiler atop the liftgate.
