I love a beautifully presented classic but there is a particular and intriguing interest in a car in its original 'barn' find' state or simply one with lovely patina. I think the Gullwing image is one of the most fabulous motoring images in have seen in ages. Please do not restore...!

Thought I would share Barry Rowe with you all, an automotive artist of world renown. For those not familiar with him, he is a UK based artist and has a worldwide following. I particularly like how his works give warm, nostalgic feel to exciting early days of motoring and motorsport. I wasn't there but it makes me feel that way! Look at the sunlight on the Monaco image and the dappled light on the image of the two Bugattis. The character in Sir Malcolm Campbell's face is fabulous. www.barryrowe.com/

Calling these images art might be stretching a point, but i find them totally fascinating, beautiful and sad at the same time. All 'car people' have the longing for a 'barn find' and i think we look at these and immediately get that exciting feeling of 'if only'. There are so many cars that conjure up the need for a crystal ball and this is one of them. Talk about 'if only'.... At the time, the Porsche brand was exotic, rare and quality and the RS model was subtly tweaked in all the right places for the weekend racer type but the perception was it still had strong VW origins so who would have though a possible half million pounds in 2011?? without that crystal ball, what new models now are heading to the same stratosphere?

His style really captures motoring from an enthusiasts point of view. I particularly like the humour in his work - the Fiat 500 with a huge wagon looming behind. The Lotus Ford (with Graham Hill behind the wheel) and the huge rear wing equipped with pigeons! He gently pokes fun at the 'individual' features of car and racing cars so well.
