Encrypting/Hiding Passwords

There was this unusual case of storing passwords in script files being a problem because of auditing. Since using lr_encrypt/lr_decrypt did not encrypt the passwords stored in the code_generation.log and some other files within the script folder, the whole encryption was only good on the file that we viewed in Vugen.

HP support was unable to give a solution immediately, so for the time being I have developed a tool that would search and delete the files that might store the passwords without encryption. Note: But when the script is regenerated/rerun all these files would come right back and you’d have to run the utility again.

We use this to remove passwords from our scripts that go into archive.

To use this utility:

1. Browse to the LoadRunner script folder using “Browse” button. Files from multiple script folders can be added by clicking on “Browse” again and again. This would select all the files that might contain the password information.
2. Click on “Select All” after checking the list.
3. Click on “Delete Selected Files” to remove them.

Note: These are not permanently deleted. The deleted files can be retrieved by regenerating the script.

SharePoint moving list items between lists

When moving items within SharePoint lists in Windows SharePoint Services 2007 sites, the items tend to be deleted and recreated in the new list folder. So when trying to organize and making bulk moves, make sure to empty the recycle bin after the move is completed. This issue actually ate up on our SharePoint Quota within our network.

Performance of HP LoadRunner Agent Machines

During one of our tests the application caused the LoadRunner agent machines to run at full CPU. The agent machine CPUs status is diplayed on the HP LoadRunner Controller as below. If the CPU of the agents are above normal then the results of the tests are sure to be inaccurate.

The below image shows how the CPU of generators are within the safe limits of CPU usage before starting the test.

Below you see the CPU of the agents machine marked in Red as they cross 100% usage. This definitely makes the response times received during the load test to be much higher and hence the wrong results. So watch out for these signals during testing.
