Improved efficiency, redesigned exterior and higher charging performance the new Audi Q8 e-tron is on sale in the UK priced from £67,800 (OTR). The model range comprises SUV and Sportback bodystyles and three powertrain options: Q8 50 e-tron, Q8 55 e-tron and SQ8 e-tron. All feature a generous level of standard equipment, considerable improvements in electric range and increased battery capacity. First deliveries of the new Q8 e-tron are expected in April 2023.

"Audi established the premium market for electric SUVs back in 2018 with the e-tron and since then customer appetite for the model has grown year-on-year," commented Andrew Doyle, Director Audi UK. "The introduction of the new and improved Q8 e-tron family heralds a new era for Audi, one that prioritises customer's wants and needs. It's the first of a variety of incredible new products Audi will be bringing to market in the coming years that will continue to set the standard in the world of premium electric mobility."

The new version of Audi's flagship electric SUV also brings with it a new name: Q8 e-tron. This positions the model as the flagship offering in Audi's electric model portfolio. The famous four rings themselves have also had a redesign, now visible at the front and rear end as a flush, two-dimensional logo, while the model designation is also now visible on the b-pillar.

UK specification

The Audi Q8 e-tron and Q8 Sportback e-tron lineups comprise four trim levels: Sport, S Line, Black Edition and Vorsprung. The high-performance SQ8 e-tron range is made up of a Black Edition and Vorsprung trim but an on-sale date for these flagship variants will be announced at a later date.

The level of standard equipment across the Q8 e-tron lineup reflects its position as the most sophisticated electric SUV in Audi's portfolio. Highlights include adaptive air suspension, quattro all-wheel drive and progressive steering, which feature across all models. Further increasing on-board comfort and refinement are heated and electrically adjustable front seats, windscreen with acoustic glazing, Audi Virtual cockpit, keyless-go and two-zone automatic air conditioning including comfort remote preconditioning. This enhanced system now allows customers to heat or cool the car, and activate seat heating and ventilation, and window heating via the myAudi app.

A raft of safety equipment also features as standard including a rearview camera, lane departure warning, Audi pre-sense front and basic, parking system with 360 sensors and camera traffic sign recognition. Matrix LED headlamps are standard across the line-up with Digital Matrix LEDs reserved for top-spec Vorsprung editions.

New option packs

The number of available options on the Audi Q8 e-tron has been simplified with two technology-focused packs. The Technology Pack (£2,995) comprises a Bang & Olufsen sound system, multi-colour interior ambient lighting pack, head-up display, 360-degree camera and park assist plus with parking aid, which enables the Q8 e-tron to park itself with the press and hold of a button.

The Technology Pack Pro (£5,995) adds exterior ambient lighting (Grille Illumination), four-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, USB-C in the rear, heated rear seats and advanced key.

The familiar Tour Pack (£1,995) remains available and comprises adaptive cruise with active lane assist, emergency assist, predictive efficiency assistant, turn assist and swerve assist, while the City Assist Pack (£1,495) adds Audi pre-sense rear, exit warning, cross traffic assist front and rear, lane change assistant and park assist with parking aid. CELESTIQ and Ultium

Cadillac CELESTIQ channels the power of the revolutionary Ultium Platform, which is the foundation for CELESTIQ's exhilarating performance and range. This dedicated EV propulsion architecture combines a 111-kWh battery pack and a two-motor, all-wheel-drive propulsion system to offer a GM-estimated 600 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque - and a GM-estimated driving range of 300 miles (483 km) on a full charge.

Unique among Ultium-based EVs are CELESTIQ's 11.59:1 front and 11.63:1 rear gear ratios, which were specially calibrated to optimize range and performance. In addition to the impressive horsepower and torque, the vehicle is also projected to deliver one of the quickest 0-60-mph accelerations in the segment of 3.8 seconds.

The Ultium Platform also serves as a structural element of the vehicle, contributing to its overall strength and feeling of solidity, in addition to its performance. The CELESTIQ's battery cells are mounted horizontally, enabling the vehicle's long, low and lean proportions, while the low mounting position of the pack drops the vehicle's center of gravity, enhancing handling and ride comfort, as well as maximizing interior spaciousness.

Regen on Demand Braking is standard and helps maximize driving range by converting the kinetic energy of the vehicle's forward momentum into electricity that's stored in the battery pack. It also includes One-Pedal Driving, which can slow the vehicle to a complete stop using only the accelerator pedal, for very fine vehicle control.

Indeed, CELESTIQ's engineers made the most of the robust architecture and developed Cadillac's most technologically advanced suspension and other performance systems ever.

Adaptive Air Suspension: CELESTIQ makes use of an air suspension system, rather than the coiled springs used in a traditional suspension system. Compared to traditional suspension systems, air suspension offers a softer, more isolated ride for greater ride quality.
Active Rear Steering: CELESTIQ will offer up to 3.5 degrees of out-of-phase rear steering, in which the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction of the front wheels for greater maneuverability at low speeds. At higher speeds, the rear wheels will turn in-phase with the front wheels.
Magnetic Ride Control 4.0: A signature Cadillac engineering innovation will find a new home in CELESTIQ. Originally developed for the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, the system is the world's fastest-reacting suspension technology, which allows for greater responsiveness and enhanced isolation from road imperfections.
Advanced AWD: CELESTIQ offers a two-motor electric drive unit. These motors work with torque optimizer modules that analyze torque requirements for given vehicle inputs. These modules turn the front or rear motors on and off as required to provide optimal torque to enhance ride quality and electric driving range.
Active Roll Control: The Cadillac-first Active Roll Control feature is a significant contributor to the vehicle's nimble handling. It employs stabilizer bars embedded at the front and rear of the chassis to mitigate the rolling force exerted on the vehicle during turns and other maneuvers, enhancing the feeling of stability, control and occupant comfort.
Active Rear Spoiler: The CELESTIQ Active Rear Spoiler deploys at lower speeds to help improve aerodynamic efficiency and further raises at higher speeds to help keep the vehicle balanced.
Ride-focused tires: CELESTIQ will feature available 23-inch forged aluminum wheels with 23-inch summer-only Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires. This combination will offer strong rolling resistance performance and precision steering. Designed specifically for Cadillac, the tread pattern, self-sealing technology and foam inserts enable a quiet tire for greater ride isolation.
Electric Power Steering: CELESTIQ features a variable ratio front electric power steering system, similar to that found on the Cadillac Blackwings but calibrated specifically for CELESTIQ, that works in coordination with active rear steering to automatically adjust to the ideal steering ratio depending on vehicle speed resulting in an engaging and intuitive driving experience.
5-link front and rear suspension: CELESTIQ's 5-link front and rear suspension provides exceptional performance tailored specifically for the high torque output of an electric vehicle motor. The suspension isolators are precisely tuned to minimize cabin disturbances yet allow proper road feel and handling response, delivering on Cadillac's promise of isolated precision.

Charging

When it comes to charging, Cadillac is committed to creating a seamless experience for clients, whether at home or on the road. When looking to charge quickly, CELESTIQ is equipped with a 200 kW DC fast charging system capable of adding up to a Cadillac-estimated 78 miles of range in only 10 minutes of charging4 at a public DC fast charging station.

CELESTIQ clients will also have access to Ultium Charge 360, a holistic approach to EV charging that's designed to simplify the overall charging experience. It includes access to more than 110,000 publicly available charging points in the United States and Canada. And through the myCadillac Mobile app, clients can find nearby charging stations, see real-time charger availability, plan routes, start charging sessions and more.

CELESTIQ Body Structure

In creating one of the most important Cadillacs ever, the CELESTIQ engineering team rethought the fundamental building blocks to not only accommodate its all-electric propulsion system but provide a platform for the ultimate expression of ultra-luxury and unmatched client customization, enabled by advanced manufacturing techniques.

Achieving that required an all-new architecture dedicated exclusively to CELESTIQ. It is based on the Ultium Platform, which integrates the propulsion system's battery pack and serves as a structural element of the vehicle, contributing to its overall strength, durability and performance.

Mega Castings: The CELESTIQ underbody includes six large precision sand-cast aluminum components. Each casting reduces part count by 30 to 40 components, compared to typical stamped construction. The benefits being more efficient use of space, simplicity and improved structural rigidity. The CELESTIQ precision sand-casted content and processes are ideal for low volume, handcrafted, bespoke vehicles.

Additive Manufacturing: With 115 3D printed parts in the production vehicle, the CELESTIQ demonstrates GM's broadest use of this process.

The steering wheel center is the largest metal part GM has printed in production, combining the show surface and the structural B-side of the part, while the seat belt adjustable guide loop is GM's first safety-related 3D printed part.
Other 3D printed parts include: window switches, grab handles, console decor and structural pieces under the vehicle's surface.

Flex Fabrication: Each CELESTIQ vehicle will feature over 300 fabricated pieces throughout the body structure, chassis, interior and electrical components. This "Flex Fabrication" process utilizes metal sheets that can be folded and manipulated into the unique shapes required for the CELESTIQ design - a process more akin to metallic origami than traditional stamping.

A long dash-to-axle ratio lends to CELESTIQ's classic proportions that are evocative of performance vehicles.
Precision advanced aluminum castings combined with advanced engineering and manufacturing allow CELESTIQ to house large 23-inch wheels.
The use of advanced casting techniques allowed CELESTIQ engineers to efficiently package all technologies - never compromising on design or client comfort.

The CELESTIQ architecture also incorporates a unique 48-volt electrical system that's driven by a digital electrical architecture of its own, which supports the vehicle's advanced technologies and features. The members of the design team are artists themselves, with unique backgrounds in fashion, architecture, industrial design and beyond. Each brought their experiences and perspectives from those different genres and channeled them into the vision of CELESTIQ.

Exterior Design: Embracing the Avant-Garde

The silhouette of Cadillac CELESTIQ is immediately striking. It is a bold, fastback profile, challenging the ultra-luxury space with the spirit of futurism and the avant-garde. The boldness of the grille and the vertical lighting signatures flow seamlessly into the sloping windshield, creating a harmony of surfaces. CELESTIQ breathes ultra-luxury, but with an edge, a sense of modernity unlike anything else in its segment.

Every metal surface seen on the exterior of the vehicle is real metal - including an aluminum grille, brushed aluminum bodyside, aluminum eTrunk™ lining, rocker, taillamp and headlamp trim, and brushed metal liftgate body openings.

The aluminum grille and Goddess in the fender is milled into cast aluminum, then the piece is machine-polished, brushed and tinted. The Goddess trim also features a unique crystal element to house premium LED lighting elements.

To embody the avant-garde, futuristic vision the CELESTIQ silhouette evokes, the vehicle features several innovative technologies including:

Fixed Smart Glass Roof: In an industry-first feature, Suspended Particle Device Technology, multi-color ambient lighting, and lighting choreography create a unique interplay between the exterior and the amount of light allowed into the cabin through the four-zone Fixed Smart Glass Roof.
Automated Illuminated Charging Indicators: The charge port is surrounded by a ring of light that responds when the CELESTIQ is plugged in for charging. Visual cues indicate the state of charge, including a lit Goddess emblem above the charge port - a visual representation of how electrification is the soul of CELESTIQ and Cadillac. Additionally, the vehicle's vertical lighting signatures in the headlamps and taillamps offer charging status indicators, indicating 10% charging increments.
Materials: Carbon fiber comprises several areas of the exterior, this material choice enables the designers to create distinctive forms not possible with traditional metal body panels. The visible metallic surfaces are authentic metal, including the aluminum grille, header, rocker, taillamp and headlamp trim, brushed aluminum bodyside trim, aluminum eTrunk™ lining, and brushed metal liftgate body openings.
3D Printing: The use of 3D printing and additive manufacturing is cutting-edge technology that produces several important CELESTIQ design elements, such as the steering wheel décor, which would be impossible to create with typical metal castings and CNC milling.
Exterior Lighting: Every single point of light in a CELESTIQ lighting animation is its own light source rather than the banks of lights used in many other vehicles. These individual LEDs - more than 1,600 per vehicle (depending on the sales market) - create a richer, deeper lighting experience. The choreography is accented by the Cadillac-first Digital Micromirror Device headlamps with 1.3 million pixels per side.
Lighting Choreography: The exterior lighting choreography begins when the client is approximately 15 feet away from the CELESTIQ and it detects the client's key fob. The vehicle welcomes the client by illuminating the front Cadillac Crest, before light cascades from the middle of the black crystal shield grille to the headlamps, creating the impression the vehicle is powering up and preparing for the journey.
Power Open and Close Doors: There are no exterior door handles, for a cleaner, more aerodynamic appearance. Instead, the client can power open and close the doors easily with the press of a button.
Wheel Choices: Carefully proportioned to fit its frame and proportions, the 23-inch wheels offered on CELESTIQ are available in almost countless color choices. All are matched with Michelin tires in which the sidewall is adorned with the Cadillac Precision pattern to inform the client that the tire was designed specifically for CELESTIQ.

Interior Design: A New Standard of Ultra-Luxury

The CELESTIQ interior is where Cadillac's Art of Travel design philosophy is fully realized, the craftsmanship is evident the moment a client enters in the cabin, the sensory experience is ignited through the use of authentic materials and indulgent details. The client-selected hand-wrapped materials, immersive interior lighting, and embellishments embody Cadillac's vision for exclusivity and customization.

"With CELESTIQ, we've been able to push classic American luxury into a new modern space," said Tristan Murphy, interior design manager, CELESTIQ. "Executed with exceptional craftmanship, there is a staggering variety of colors, trims and genuine materials that ensure no two vehicles will ever be alike."

With a clean, minimalist aesthetic, the cabin of the interior acts as a pure showcase for all the different materials and color options. "The interior is defined by long uninterrupted surfaces and theme lines, the sense of movement is all around you. With such a clean design, it allowed the details to shine, emphasizing precision in even the smallest of areas, truly highlighting a sense of space and scale," said Murphy.

Immersive Lighting: The interior lighting is fundamental to CELESTIQ, featuring more than 450 distinct LEDs, delivering an immersive sensory experience. Clients can personalize their color selections for each interior lighting zone or let CELESTIQ curate the lighting combinations to harmonize throughout the cabin. In addition, CELESTIQ includes 18 different lighting animations which showcase the interior's lighting capabilities where the choreography of light enhances the mood.

Hand-Finished Metalwork: Many of the metal elements throughout CELESTIQ require detail and finish work such as fine milling, anodization and a final polishing by hand, reflecting the authenticity and high level of finish detail that goes into each handcrafted vehicle.
Hand-Wrapped Leather: CELESTIQ leather surfaces are made with premium leather wrapped by artisans.
Art and Color: The client is involved in every decision when it comes to the colors, materials and finishes, including the opportunity to develop new colors or paint to match in collaboration with the Cadillac design team. TECHNOLOGY AND UNPRECEDENTED INNOVATION

Cadillac CELESTIQ is distinguished by artfully integrated technologies that exhilarate upon first impression and become indispensable elements of every driving experience.

Infotainment Experience

The centerpiece of the interior and the CELESTIQ technology interface is a pillar-to-pillar, 55-inch-diagonal advanced HD display - the largest in the segment. It is a technological marvel, containing two separate screens under a single pane of glass. The driver-side display - with pixel density comparable to an 8K screen - shows driver and shared vehicle information, while the passenger side allows the occupants to play media, use the internet capability, connect their smartphones, and more. In order to separate the passenger display from the driver, Digital Blinds Active Privacy technology provides a virtual privacy shield, dimming the passenger screen from the driver's view when in use.

The expansive, 55-inch-diagonal advanced HD screen is one of five high-definition displays in the vehicle, including a front console mounted 11-inch-diagonal touchscreen Front Command Center and a rear console mounted 8-inch-diagonal touchscreen Rear Command Center, which allow clients to control many features within the vehicle such as the seating positions, cabin temperature, door opening and closing, tinting the all-glass roof panel and more.
Rear passengers have their own 12.6-inch-diagonal advanced displays in front of them, mounted on the front seatbacks.
A crystal multi-functional controller directs the primary screen and is the crown jewel of the front center console, offering intuitive control of the infotainment system and other features. Connected Cameras: Starting with CELESTIQ, Cadillac will introduce a new connected camera platform. This platform will provide clients added peace of mind by giving them access to interior and exterior cameras through an intuitive mobile interface along with theft detection, crash recording and other useful features.

Google Built-In: Google built-in is a helpful, personalized and seamless way to enhance your in-vehicle experience. With Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play you get access to hands-free help, live traffic updates, some of your favorite apps and more.

Fixed Smart Glass Roof: The all-glass roof panel, the largest in the industry, employs Suspended Particle Device technology to allow variable transmission, meaning the client can control the amount of light allowed into the vehicle in four zones - one for each passenger area. A feature unique to CELESTIQ. The effect enables ultimate control over the amount of light entering the vehicle. The tint levels for the zones vary from less than 1%, for the darkest level of opacity, to 20%, which is the standard tint level of a traditional sunroof. It is also treated with infrared reflective and low-emissivity coatings that help retain heat and prevent sunlight from raising the cabin's temperature.

Furthermore, acoustic laminated glass is used extensively throughout the exterior of the vehicle, including all windows, to maximize sound isolation and provide a truly luxurious experience.

Advanced Climate System: CELESTIQ is the first vehicle to feature a Gentherm ClimateSense® four-zone microclimate system as standard equipment. It features 33 unique microclimate devices that allow each occupant to tailor their seat heating and cooling, along with advanced airflow technology that creates truly individualized comfort. All four-seating positions will feature the same level of individualized comfort, including a neck scarf, heated armrests as well as heated, cooled and ventilated seats. The system can also significantly reduce HVAC energy consumption.

Clients will be led through a design consultation process by a concierge along with their CELESTIQ dealer of choice who is dedicated to guiding them through every aspect of the journey. Ironically, one of the features designers of electric motorcycles seem to have the hardest time getting away from is the gas tank. My hunch as to why is a motorcycle just looses too much of it’s identity as soon as you take away the tank. Eventually our minds may learn to accept the tanks absence. Until then Dan Anderson‘s Voltra electric motorcycle concept, with it’s trellis frame forming the skeleton of a gas tank lets our minds wander just far enough to be comfortable with the no tank look.
Suspended on the end of the vestigial tank structure is a cafe racer inspired seat and tail section hinting at Dan’s inspiration for the bike. This 4th year University of Western Sydney Industrial Design student has a deep rooted respect for the culture of ICE motorcycles and their design. His father Chris successfully raced Norton Manx in a classic race series in Australia in the late 80’s and early 90’s and currently owns a Commando and a few Ducati’s. He was Australian champion 3 times and state champion 6 or 7 times. Dan’s personal bike is a Ducati Pantah 600 that he restored himself.

The striking aesthetics of the Voltra bike speak for itself. Combine the visual presentation with cool features like a removable instrument cluster that doubles as a key and records data for review after the ride and it would have the most vain of squids jumping at the chance to add it to their garage furnishings. However, the more you dig into the design the more you realize the beauty is more than skin deep.

Earlier this year MotoCzysz unveiled an equally stunning carbon fiber framed E1PC that has the batteries attached to the side of the frame in 10 modular packs. Dan took a quite a different approach. What appear to be side panels on the Voltra are actually part of the carbon fibre monocoque frame. It is designed as a load bearing exoskeleton that has a hollow cavity inside to hold the batteries.

The AC induction electric motor resides in a cast housing that doubles as a pivot for the trellis swing arm. This design not only makes for a rigid connection between swingarm and frame, it provides a consistent chain tension through the travel of the rear swing arm.

The motor and lithium ion batteries are directed by a programmable control unit. The design translates to a 441 lb machine with 129 Nm of torque and a top speed of 124 mph. All very realistic specs based on today’s technology, a further testament to Dan’s thorough research. As with all electric vehicle designs weight and energy density of batteries will come down and specs will only get better.

Motor and Energy– High Torque and Acceleration

Fueled by Zero Motorcycles’ proprietary lithium ion power pack, the Zero MX delivers more torque than any other motorcycle in its class. This is made possible by our power pack’s ability efficiently dump an incredibly high amount of power as soon as you punch the throttle. Using an advanced monitoring system, each cell in the power pack is individually controlled during charge and discharge. The charger integrates into this system and uses a specially developed charge profile to optimize the power pack’s recharge time.
Think of it this way, fuel systems are to gas motorcycles what electrical systems are to electrical motorcycles. Where others use a small carburetor and fuel pump, we use a highly tuned fuel injection system. We’ve found a way of rapidly flowing more energy out of our power pack than any of our competitors. PERFORMANCE:

The TTX02 delivers performance, with incredible off-the-line acceleration and a formidable top speed of 130mph depending on the gearing.
Contrary to general perceptions, this electric motorcycle is 15kg lighter at 170kg than the same bike with a petrol engine without fuel or fluids.
With a 7.5kWh battery pack the range is enough to complete TTXGP races at full pace (25 miles +) and can be up to 110miles during road use.

RACE HERITAGE

The TTX02 was initially built for racing, as an off the shelf race bike. A TTX02 has competed in every round of the TTXGP season, with three in the Final at Albacete, Spain. This has been a fantastic development opportunity and the lessons learnt from the experience have been directly transferred to the bike.

CHEWII – ON BOARD PC

A touch screen visual display unit informs the rider exactly how the bike is performing, providing real time information on temperatures, current draw, voltage and power usage. The CHEWII system runs on an Intel chip and has WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and USB, allowing remote access for checking the battery charge or uploading new settings.

HOT-SWAPPABLE POWERTRAIN

The entire powertrain, including batteries, motors and controller can be removed in less than 5 minutes. This negates the charging time and means that on trackdays or for racing the bike can quickly be back out on track.
The powertrain is housed by a structurally reinforced, Kevlar lined, carbon fibre box which replaces the semi-stressed engine.

Overview of TVS Velocity 160 Street Fighter

TVS recently displayed the Velocity 160 Street Fighter concept at the Jakarta Motorcycle Show. It is basically a modified version of the Apache RTR 160, it also looks somewhat similar to the Yamaha FZ16 especially from the front. This street-fighter avatar of the Apache RTR 160 has huge front petal disc brakes, upside down forks, a non-faired front, wide tyres and wait for it, a rear mono-shock as the hallmarks of its design. The streetfighter concept has been shown so as to gauge the initial reaction of the Indonesian public towards such a design.

Design and Styling of TVS Velocity 160 Street Fighter

In terms of design and styling the Velocity 160 Street Fighter looks awesome with broad front and rear tyres. The fuel tank looks similar to the Apache RTR 160 and it gels well with the looks of Velocity 160. When viewed from side the Velocity 160 looks very similar to the Yamaha FZ series and Honda CB Dazzler. The headlamp of Velocity 160 resembles to the headlight of Bajaj Pulsar 135 Light Sport. Engine and Batteries

The car has an AC synchronous electric motor of 80 kW (107 bhp) with a torque of 280 Nm. The motor is powered by 48 lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries with a total capacity of 24 kWh. The batteries are located under the seats. This gives the car a low center of gravity. The battery pack will be covered by an 8-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
Top speed of the car is 90 mph and has a 100 miles/charge based upon US EPA LA4 City cycle. At 55 mph on the highway in 95 degrees and the A/C on, expect the range to be 70 miles.

Charging

The car as an 3.3 kW onboard charger for the battery and comes with a portable trickle charge cable (120V/20-A). As the name implies, this will be primarily used for opportunity charging and is not recommended to be the primary method of charging. For that, Nissan has a home charging dock which uses a 220/240V 40A dedicated line in the home. A full charge will take 8h on a 220/240V home charging station.

A 480V quick-charging capability will eventually be available in many markets once a standard is set. 480V quickcharge 80% full will take 30 minutes.

It is possible to set a charging timer in the car and control the car’s functions and charging from any computer or internet-enabled phone.
Further, the Nissan LEAF’s navigation system will be able to show the charging locations along the route.

Nissan Ellure Concept Car

At the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, Nissan has unveiled a concept design that points the way toward some of its next-generation sedan models—even though Nissan swears that its Ellure show car is not “intended as preview of any upcoming production model,” in the words of Shiro Nakamura, Nissan’s chief creative officer.

Instead, it’s “an expression of [Nissan’s] long-term vision for the next generation of sedans,” and one that has “an emotive, almost hidden ambience that comes to life after dark” despite the sedan’s “unmatched daytime functionality.”

Nissan has a long history of doing compact-to-midsize sedans right in broad daylight, with its sporty Altima family. But it’s looked to the night for the Ellure’s design inspiration, saying in a release that the Ellure has “a more emotive, almost hidden ambience that comes to life after dark.” Perhaps Nissan has taken the current vampire craze (think Twilight or True Blood) a bit too seriously, but the lines of the Ellure are undeniably after-hours.
In a market where sedan buyers have migrated to crossovers, the Ellure five-passenger sedan could help attract sedan shoppers back–to a design that’s potentially more fuel-efficient.

At 190 inches long, 72 inches wide, and 57 inches high, the Ellure is about the same length and width as the 2011 Nissan Altima, though it’s several inches lower. Its wheelbase is several inches longer than the Altima’s though (potentially indicating a roomy interior), at 114 inches.
Oh, by the way, who might buy the Ellure? “Women in their 30s and 40s with a sense of sophistication…and rebellion.”

More seriously, the Ellure’s proportions accommodate a “next-generation hybrid powertrain” that mates a 240-horsepower supercharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine to a 25-kilowatt (35-horsepower) electric drive motor with a clutch on either end.
The drive motor is mounted between the blown engine and a Nissan Xtronic continuously-variable transmission (CVT) that powers the front wheels.
The motor is fed by a lithium-battery pack of unspecified capacity, presumably using similar cells to those in Nissan’s 2011 Leaf electric car but specified for power output rather than energy density.
All four wheels are 21-inch five-spoke aluminum alloys, with Michelin low-rolling-resistance tires and semi-transparent full wheel covers for minimal air drag.
With the Ellure, Nissan is launching a “Pure Drive” sub-brand that it will likely use on production models to denote its cleanest and most fuel-efficient vehicles,

Low-drag carbon fiber body

The wheels are pushed out to the corners of the carbon-fiber bodywork, and its deep front fascia and the small openings in its “solid-transparent” front grille combine with a full body undertray and small wheel openings combine to minimize aerodynamic drag for greater fuel efficiency.
Front and rear lights include what Nissan calls a “Vibrant Tsubasa effect,” like the feathered layers of a bird wings or even fish scales, condensed in some areas and fully spread out in others.
The side doors, with the rear pair hinged at the rear, open a full 90 degrees for easier passenger access. Finally, the car’s rear styling is inspired by a “Torii Shinto shrine gate.”
Customary show-car features include a full glass roof, rear-view cameras replacing conventional door mirrors, and a Geode White tri-coat mica paint treatment that varies from gold pearlescent to blue tones, depending on how light hits it.
“Thermal energy” interior
The interior, with its “almost molten, thermal energy,” faces the driver and front passenger with a single two-level sweep of instrument panel, incorporating touch interfaces for most controls and flows into both side doors.
Seats are upholstered in a recycled black eco-suede material. In the front, headrests appear to float, helping to reduce the barrier between front and rear passengers, as do the transparent red acrylic backs to the front seats.
Rear passengers enjoy a three-person lounge seat covered in gray ultra-suede. A floating white leather center console is backlit in red and transparent, with a central controller for all vehicle functions that provides “an intuitive interface” (we’ll reserve judgment on that).
Finally, the carpet—hand-made from wool felt strips—includes a “shock-wave design,” with strips of color radiating out from the center of the Ellure’s cabin.
And in true concept-car language, the Ellure’s color palette includes Molten Ice (white), Molten Steel (gray), and Molten Onyx (black).

Power and Control

The energy created by the turbines and stored in the batteries is transmitted to the road using four independent electric motors. Using individual motors has benefits in terms of weight saving and distribution, packaging and efficiency. Each motor weighs just 50kg but produces 145kW (195bhp) of power and an astonishing combined total torque output of 1600Nm (1180lb ft).
Because each wheel is driven by its own electric motor, the Jaguar C-X75 Concept is four-wheel drive - with all the traction, grip and safety benefits that entails - without the weight disadvantages of a purely mechanical set-up. Inherent in this drivetrain is the ability to independently vector torque to each wheel across the full speed range. This offers potential benefits in terms of stability and control, creating an infinitely and instantaneously adjustable traction and stability control system.
Electric motors also produce maximum torque from almost zero rpm, making the traditional power curve a thing of the past. In fact, such is the C-X75's power that Jaguar's engineers had to artificially limit the torque available from rest in order to improve the driveability of the car. The performance available in the mid-range is truly startling. The Jaguar C-X75 Concept will accelerate from 80-145kph (50-90mph) in just 2.3 seconds. The quarter-mile sprint takes 10.3 seconds at a terminal velocity of 251kph (156mph) and acceleration peaks at 0.88G.
Such astounding performance requires equally impressive braking. Jaguar already has a system proven to be up to the task. The C-X75 is fitted with the brakes used on the supercharged XFR which in 2009 became the fastest Jaguar ever, achieving 363kph (226mph) at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. In this application, regenerative braking technology on all four wheels helps recharge the batteries during driving. The 380mm internally ventilated front discs and 345mm rears are covered by polished alloy wheels of 21 and 22 inches respectively.

Finished in Jetstream Silver, the Jaguar C-X75 Concept's beautiful proportions, sculpted lines and powerful stance have been created, in the words of Julian Thomson, Assistant Design Director and head of the Jaguar Advanced Design Studio, to "pull at the same emotional heartstrings as classic Jaguars such as the D-Type and XJ13 racers."
The Jaguar C-X75 Concept borrows more than simply elegant looks from previous classic designs, however, for those cars were equally respected for the purity of their engineering. C-X75 has been created to indicate the future for luxury carmakers such as Jaguar. It shows that it is possible to retain core brand values while offering zero emissions motoring for much of the time, as well as range-extending technologies that will make electric vehicles significantly more practical.

Aerodynamic Purity

Shorter, slimmer and lower than the current crop of supercars, its exterior design is about pure performance with a simple central fuselage surrounded by prominent wheelarches. Thanks to the packaging efficiencies provided by the absence of a conventional piston engine, the car's designers had maximum freedom in placing the mechanical components and creating the most elegant engineering package available. Consequently the car has the most perfect proportions and sense of balance possible with a compact cabin placed centrally between the dramatic wheel arches. The lines of the supercar are purposeful and agile, suggesting a sense of movement and poise.
Aerodynamics are a key factor in designing a supercar capable of accelerating to speeds in excess of 320kph (200mph). Yet, as Thomson explains, the designers weren't prepared to sacrifice the car's beauty when it came to creating downforce and stability at high speeds: "Because we want this to be one of the most beautiful Jaguars ever, we took a much more elegant approach to the Jaguar C-X75 Concept's aerodynamics and exploited the benefits of having an electrically-powered drivetrain."
Using an underbody Venturi and directional exhaust gas control kept the car as sleek, compact and low as possible while still generating immense amounts of grip and downforce. Indeed, the movement of air itself was one of the principle drivers behind many of the design cues that were incorporated into the bodywork. Principal designer Matt Beavan reveals how the airflow into the turbines helped to shape the surfaces of the car itself: "We wanted to emphasize how the air makes its way not just over the car but is also channeled into the rear airbox. When operating at 80,000rpm, each gas-turbine requires 25,000 liters of air a minute which means we need a series of carefully honed intakes."
The two beautifully sculpted sill-mounted aluminum intakes have a striking two-tone finish, with polished inner surfaces emphasizing their functionality. Above them sit two further intakes that feed cold air to a separate turbine cooling system.
The turbine theme is also echoed in the stunning alloy wheels which appear to have been cut from a single block of aluminum with a spoke design inspired by the fan blades of the engines themselves. The tires have been custom-made by Pirelli with an asymmetric tread pattern and bold green F1-style wear indicator running the circumference of the tire.
Forward-hinged doors are opened using Jaguar Sense touch technology, raising outwards and upwards for excellent cabin access. To maintain the purity of the side profile, the designers replaced conventional door mirrors with cameras housed in a tailfin which is a miniaturized echo of that of the D-Type - images are displayed on screens inside the cabin. Behind the doors, fuel fillers sit either side of the cockpit - reminiscent of the twin-tank system on the original XJ6 - which on the C-X75 access respectively the fuel tank for the turbines and the plug-in battery charging point.
The eye is then drawn towards the sealed compartment which houses the twin micro gas-turbines and the beautiful structural bracing that supports them. Exposed through the rear window - much like with the XJ13 - the remarkable turbines are showcased by their elegant aluminum housing and Texalium woven fabric lining the engine bay.
The compact packaging of the turbines allowed the designers further freedom at the rear of the car, which is shaped like the trailing edge of an aircraft wing. This is both functional - incorporating the Venturi aerofoil - and beautiful with a sharp swage line and dramatic, slim full-LED rear lights

Interior

Jaguar has a long tradition of using the finest materials to create a cosseting and luxurious cabin that allows the driver to concentrate on the experience of driving, culminating in the award-winning interior of the current XJ. With the C-X75, Jaguar has blended beautiful leathers with innovative materials and finishes to create an elegantly tailored and driver-focused cabin that is defined and inspired by the technology that powers this sustainable supercar.
The twin micro-turbines provided great inspiration when designing the interior architecture. The turbines themselves require vast amounts of air and driver and passenger are placed in the calm centre of this storm. The soft shapes and surface changes of the cabin reflect the movement of air, unseen and unheard by those inside, within the channels surrounding it.
The seats are fixed into the rear bulkhead that forms part of the airbox feeding the turbines, integrating driver and passenger not only into the structure but also the function of the car. A beautifully formed aluminum spar directs air into the turbines which are supported by spiral-shaped cast brackets that appear to flow directly from the seats' headrests.

KTM Launches the Next Stage of RC8-R

KTM has yet again proved that it is capable of becoming one of the leading manufacturers of the motorcycle industry. The Austrian manufacturer is all set to take the auto industry by surprise in coming years. With the Launch of their basic model at EICMA this year, they started looking to develop the existing model. The innovation crystallized when KTM launched its latest of the lot i.e. KTM 1190 RC8 R.

The RC8 R is far better and improved version of the existing basic model. It has more power, looks more muscular and is definitely one of its kinds. Some key features of the bike include 175 Bhp of power, 127 Nm of torque, dual point ignition and weigh 185 kgs.
Well, these features are just the basic ones and the heart of the innovation lies in the twin cylinder heart. The twin cylinders are capable of producing more power and efficient driving stability.

The designing is done keeping in mind the requirements of the youth. The looks of the bike are muscular and it’s too good to be a sports bike. KTM’s officials claim that though the bike is meant for races but it can also be used on public roads efficiently. The company says that the bike is economical and consumes low amounts of fuel and also emits little smoke.

The bike sports a dual plug ignition which ensures improved combustion inside the four valve cylinder heads. KTM says that the bike is not just about power and speed but also about smother engine performance and improved handling. KTM has still no take of when the bike could come to India but we will be hoping that this innovation could turn to India very soon.

Honda’s advanced PGM-FI system is key to the CBR125R’s clean-revving and manageable performance. The system’s Electronic Control Unit works with the electronic ignition to provide exactly the right fuel/air mix to the cylinder for any given combination of throttle position and engine revs. The result is a smooth power curve delivered with the accuracy and predictability needed to breed rider confidence. New FI settings also make the engine more fuel efficient.
Few engines in motorcycling are more rugged or affordable to run than the CBR125R’s liquid-cooled single. The electric start means the machine is ready to go at the push of a button, while its outstanding efficiency means superb fuel economy delivering an impressive range from the slim and compact 13-litre fuel tank. Because the fuel tank can be smaller for a given range, in turn this helps create a lighter and more compact motorcycle. The superb fuel economy betters the previous model thanks to a revised final drive ratio and new fuel injection settings. The new bike is also easier to look after – for 2011 the filter that supplies clean fuel to the fuel injection system has been moved outside the fuel tank to make maintenance simpler.

Engine Of New Bajaj Pulsar 2200 F

New Bajaj Pulsar 220 F gets all new 220cc oil cooled carburetored engine with 21 Bhp of power at 8500rpm and 19 NM of torque. Other changes to the engine insides include new combustion chamber, all new port geometry for optimized thermodynamics, new valve coat material to eliminate cardon formation, new design short skirt lower friction piston, an all new camshaft and 33% larger oil cooler.
Pulsar 220 F gets the performance boost with 32 venturi carburettor, the bigest ever used in India. In addition, the intake port in the cylinder head has been modified, along with higher lift and duration cam. A larger resonator and catalytic convertor is also used to increase performance. It also uses temperature based ignition mapping system through which the ignition timing is optimized to acheive good startability, quick warm up and outstanding torque. Pulsar 220 F features the standard five speed gearbox with one down and four up pattern.

Piaggio India is planning to foray into car business with the launch of NT3 in 2013. They displayed the concept vehicle at the EICMA 2010 in Milan. When NT3's production version is launched it will compete head on with Tata Nano, the expected price is around Rs. 1,75,000. According to a report by leading auto magazine AutoCarIndia the Piaggio concept was conceived in India, where it would battle the Tata Nano and the to-be-launched Hyundai Ha – an 800cc Rs 2- 3lakh small car – and a new sub-600cc Maruti, code named YE3. A concept of the four-wheel design, with a similar theme to the Smart Fortwo, has been revealed at the Milan Motorcycle Show. The three-seat cabin features a central, front driving position and twin rear seats, just like the McLaren F1 and BMW’s 1994 concept, the Z13, also based around ‘bike running gear.
The NT3 is based around Piaggio’s three-wheel Ape, its classic three-wheel commercial pick-up and van, which is popular in southern Europe and emerging markets like India. The engine choices in the concept are 200cc or 300cc ‘bike engines, the 300cc also mated to a hybrid system. Piaggio boss Roberto Colannino told Reuters that he had “very big sales numbers in mind for India” and that sales are also planned for “Asia and Europe”. No factory location or sales launch dates were revealed, although Piaggio is planning to start production “within three years.”

Three engine capacities

The Piaggio NT3 Concept can have three different engines, all conceived for maximum environmental compatibility while still guaranteeing suitable performance for the vehicle's mission. The 200cc engine is characterised by significantly reduced costs of operation, consumption and polluting emissions. The 300cc engine, based on the consolidated technology of the Piaggio Mp3 three-wheeled scooter, provides brilliant performance in the internal combustion 300cc version.
The 300 hybrid engine version integrates – as with the new Piaggio Mp3 300 Hybrid – the traditional low environmental impact internal-combustion powertrain with the zero emissions electric powertrain with performance equal to the 300cc internal combustion (80 km/hour max speed) and a speed of 30 km/hour in the ZEV "electric only" mode. The on board electronics decide, depending on the operational mode selected and the conditions of use, how much power to provide through the internal combustion engine and how much through the electric engine in order to optimise performance and consumption. The hybrid version represents the solution of excellence to satisfy the growing needs for urban mobility and metropolitan products with high environmental compatibility.

The bike will be available by April 2011. HMSI will import the parts from Asian countries (Thailand) and will assemble the parts in their Manesar, Haryana plant. HMSI will localize some parts like tire to cut the production cost.

A company executive said that the bike will be priced at Rs. 1,50,000 (Ex-Showroom) Delhi and a little more than that in Mumbai. He also added that the bike should hit showroom in April.
This will give CBR250R on road price of around Rs. 1,75,000 which will make it cheaper than Mahindra Mojo (Ex-Showroom price 1,75,000) and Kawasaki Ninja (On road price Rs. 3,00,000). Beside this Bajaj Auto is also going to launch all new Pulsar with higher displacement capacity in the next year.
Though Bajaj Auto has not disclosed the price range but going by their strategy it will be priced in the range of Rs. 1,00,000 to 1,30,000. It seems that the year 2011 will have lots of good news for performance enthusiast.
