Autumn of Agile Screencast Series: Iteration 01 - PART D is available

In this latest installment in the series, we spend some time refactoring to reduce our technical debt and in the process discover a gotcha from the default singleton lifecycle that Windsor provides, polish up some of our unit tests, extend our Employee class to properly handle the assignment of duplicate skills, and (finally) close out our first user story.

Autumn of Agile Screencast Series - Iteration 01 Part C (ASP.NET MVC Controllers and Views) is Available

In this next installment in the series, we explore both writing and testing our first ASP.NET MVC controller, begin to understand the power of our IoC framework to inject dependencies for us on the fly as we need them, uncover a nasty ASP.NET MVC bug, and find a (relatively) simple work-around for it.

This installment (sadly) constitutes the next in my contiuing attempts to record ever-longer screencasts and clocks in at over 3+ hours so you may want to use the PAUSE button a few times while watching it :)

Autumn of Agile Screencast Series: Iteration 1 - Part B (Rhino Tools and ASP.NET MVC) is available

In this next installment (which I apologize in advance for clocking in at a whopping 2:42!) we cover a plethora of coding issues with our SkillPortal application including developing our NHibernate-enabled Repository<T> classes for effortless persistence, integrating Rhino Tools IoC container into our unit tests, and making the changes to the Global.asax in our ASP.NET MVC project to support the Rhino Commons UnitOfWorkApplication and providing our own ControllerFactory implementation to allow the Rhino IoC container to contruct our ASP.NET MVC controllers for us.

In this next installment of the screencast series, we dig into..

-TDD Concepts and practices
-Configuring Testdriven.NET keybindings in Visual Studio for speedy test-runs for easy TDD
-Iteration and Release Planning in TargetProcess
-Using the TargetProcess Visual Studio plug-in to manage assigned work
-Getting our CI Server to run our first unit tests
-Wiring up our Domain Classes for easy persistence support using common base-classes
-Leveraging NHibernate mapping files to drive the auto-generation of our database schema

This one got a bit out of control and clocks in at a whopping two hours in length, but its worth it (IMHO).

In this latest installment we take some time to estimate tasks for our user stories and in the process start to form more complete picture of the level of effort that this project is going to require.

We also setup our project working folders in our source code control repository and configure our first-pass at a basic continuous integration server (using CruiseControl.NET) that will form the centerpiece of our development process feeback loop as we start to develop code.

In this installment we start to dig into the requirements for our project, flesh out the context for our solution and try to frame our approach in terms of the business problems it will solve and the business value that it will (hopefully) deliver. We also talk a bit about the relationship between User Stories, Features, and Tasks and learn some techniques common to organizing our requirements in preparation for actual work-item planning.

We also use Freemind to brainstorm and organize our thoughts about requirements and then take a look at how we convert each of these into User Stories and then enter these into TargetProcess, our Agile project management and planning tool of choice.
