Soaring Eagle Sconce

This past week, we worked on a custom light proposal for a hotel in the forests of Oregon. They requested an Eagle soaring on one of our light fixtures. Since we have a talented and artistic staff, we were able to create a drawing and convert it into a Eagle light, base on our popular Cascade Large sconce. This is just one example of how a Made in USA lighting company can quickly design and make a unique lighting fixture.

We are going to include the Eagle on all of our Cascade series of sconces pendants and rustic bath lights. If you are interested in one for yourself, just let us know, and we can create an item number for you.

Bottom View of Ridgemont Oval

I was asked today to photograph an oval chandelier from the bottom. Here is that picture. This shows the bulb placment and the almond mica. The bulbs are set to about 15 watts, so that the picture could be taken. But you can put it up to 60 watt bulbs (times 8 bulbs, that's 480 Watts). The two reflector bulbs in the center are R20s. While I was at it, I measured the Lumens output, by turning on the bulbs full blast and took a measurement at 3 feet. It was 25 foot candles. I did not measure the Lumen output from the top, but that would no doubt be higher, due to no obstructions blocking the light output. 25 foot candles is excellent, BTW.

This lovely Colorado vacation rental near the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park hosts 13 of our rustic lighting products, most of them with the spruce design.

Here's what the listing for this vacation property says about its location: The setting of this incredible, secluded mountain home is Wild Basin with a mosaic of lakes, streams, waterfalls, wetlands and a plethora of other water topographical features. The best hiking in the park is literally right outside the cabin. The St. Vrain River borders the property - guests can fish free.

Tod Mountain Ranch is a dude ranch located in BC’s Southern Interior. The ranch can accommodate 16 guests in newly constructed cabins, each with a private bathroom. Guests share a western style living, dining and games area in the guest lodge. An inclusive resort means you are served up three cowboy meals a day and some great BC wines and Canadian beers. They ride in almost 30,000 hectares of mountain trails, forest and alpine that surrounds the ranch and is home to bear, deer, moose and coyote. A few years back, the owners of the Inn at Cape Kiwanda renovated all the bathrooms in the inn--where every room has a view!--to include the Avalanche Ranch Lighting Starfish Vanity Light. The combination of the cobalt blue vanity and the rust patina of the light is fantastic. Also scattered throughout this 35 room inn in the delightful seaside down of Pacific City OR are Starfish Reflection Sconces, shown here next to the grand fireplace in the lobby--which looks out onto Haystack Rock. Avalanche Ranch Lighting prides itself on the ability to customize almost any light with a specific design motif--in this case the starfish.

Our first stop on the tour of rustic lights across America takes us to the San Juan Island of Orcas. Just a ferry ride away from Anacortes, WA, Orcas Island is home to the YMCA Camp Orkila. We visited Camp Orkila a few years back for Family Camp and had a blast--also good fun to find our lights in the Marine Center. I recommend attending Family Camp to introduce elementary age children to the idea of sleep-over camp and all the joys of the camp experience, especially the nightly campfires which included skits and songs. In our case, fond memories of Grandpa Charlie playing his guitar.

The Travelin' Trout Sconce is one of Avalanche Ranch Lightings original designs. It is handcrafted and handpainted and looks great on these knotty pine walls. A Tour of Rustic Lights Across America

Beginning this month, Avalanche Ranch is taking to the road for a virtual tour of our hospitality customers across the United States. We'll make visits to the camps, hotels, restaurants, lodges and ranches who use our lights as part of their decor--some having been our customers since way back in the early days of crafting lights. We'll begin in Bellingham, WA, the home of our manufacturing facility, which is also the host to the Famous Ski to Sea Race. You can see why we're inspired by nature's riches in this part of the world.

Custom Ceiling Canopy

I just got off the phone with Walter, who wanted to install one of our Smoky Mountain Ceiling Light on a log beam in his log home. He had drilled out a cavity and put a shallow 4 inch junction box/pan and he wanted the hanging canopy to be curved to follow the contour of the log. This kind of request is not unusual for us, and I was able to design a 6 inch square plate that will have a hanging hook in the middle and curved to fit around the log.

In addition, we are presenting more information on the specifications of the products, including the backplate or canopy dimensions, catalog page, and easier to view line drawings. Custom Wasatch Bath Light

Today we received a request for a extended length for our Wasatch Bath light for a 60 inch length, with 6 lights. This request for a custom rustic light fixture is an excellent example of what we can do here at the Ranch. Where else would you turn for such a fixture? Certainly not Lowe's or Home Depot. We will be able to make this fixture at an affordable price, fully UL approved, within a 3 week lead time.

New Product! - Pine Cone Metal Art Lights for the Bath

I am really pleased to announce that we have created a new 3 dimensional pine cone, complete with a branch and needles, as an exciting new addition to our collection of metal art images. We are beginning to integrate these first into our bathroom vanity lights and indoor wall sconces. Pictured here, is the Halogen Double Bath Vanity Light with the Pine Cone artwork. This is the first one we have taken a picture of, and will photographing the other bath light designs on May 8th.

The Pine Cone artwork will be soon available on other fixtures as well, and I will post those as they are finished and photographed. I have one of these branches sitting on my desk, and it looks incredibly life like. It is way cool!

Customizing the Benton Sconce Series #A162

Today I received a custom request on our rustic lights called the Benton Sconce, to make it an exterior light. The current design only is suitable for interior and damp locations (outside but protected from the rain). This is something we could do, but most likely, it would be made shorter. Also, the bulbs would have to point down. This wall sconce light is interesting because of the back - which is curved so that it fits over a vertical log. Some people have also asked that this be made to go on a horizontal log. Certainly it can be installed in a horizontal way, but I think it would be better to make a curved back canopy so any light could be installed on a log cabin wall horizontally.
