If the winter doldrums are settling in and you're thinking about flying off to somewhere nice, your wallet just might thank you.

Airfares are at their lowest point in 12 months, but don't expect that to last too long.

The six weeks after the new year is traditionally a great opportunity to save some money on airfare. Tickets are now priced 20 to 50 percent less than before the holidays. It's finally looking like winter in the Midwest as the season's first big snowstorm crawls across the region, leaving skiers and snow-reliant businesses giddy but greeting morning commuters Friday with a sloppy, slippery drive.

The article below provides some insight into why all airliners are required to have black-box recording devices to understand what led up to a disaster. The photos also show an innocence of the first-responders for such an emergency.

American Eagle Airlines, the regional affiliate of American Airlines, is replacing all of its ATR turboprop aircraft operating from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Fourteen markets throughout Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas will have all-jet service beginning Jan. 31. The airline will operate the daily flights with a combination of 37-, 44- and 50-seat jets.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The government says flights were on-time more often in November than a year earlier, and only one U.S. passenger plane was stuck on the ground for more than three hours.

The Transportation Department said Thursday that 85.3 percent of flights landed within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival times, which is the government's standard for being on time. Australian airlines have rejected suggestions to impose a "fat tax" on obese passengers. The recommendation came from former Qantas chief economist Tony Webber who compared the practice of charging more for excess baggage to as the principle to charge heavy people more to fly.

As powerful as today's modern jet aircraft are, there are still weight limits that must be maintained for each

Police Taser flier in fight with TSA

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies had to user a Taser to subdue a man at the Sacramento International Airport when an altercation developed with TSA agents.

The man had just arrived on a flight and exited through the secured area of the airport, when he realized he left something on the plane. Wanting to retrieve it, he tried to re-enter the passenger only area of the airport.

Hawaiian Airlines upgrades aircraft for Osaka flights

Business is good for Hawaiian Airlines, especially on their flights between Honolulu and Osaka.

The service between the two cities is only 6 months old, but already they are need to move to a larger aircraft to accommodate the rush of passengers.

Hawaiian will be replacing their Boeing 767-300 for this route with a new Airbus A330-200. The A330 will seat 294 passengers, up 30 from the

Nonstop Flights Stop for Fuel

When are non-stop flights not non-stop flights? When you have to stop for fuel.

Dozens of Continental Airlines flights to the East Coast from Europe have been forced to make unexpected stops in Canada and elsewhere to take on fuel after running into unusually strong headwinds over the Atlantic Ocean.

But the winds aren't the only reason.

Airlines stand to make a windfall collecting $3 passenger surcharges for EU greenhouse gas emissions fees. Why? Because the airlines will receive most of their carbon permits for free.

The new law, which went into effect January 1, prompted 5 U.S. airlines to introduce a price hike on their Europe-bound flights to cover their carbon emissions while flying in EU airspace.

HONOLULU (AP) – Hawaiian Airlines carried more than 8.6 million passengers last year — a company record.

The company said Monday it transported 2.9% more passengers last year than in 2010, when 8.4 million people flew on Hawaiian aircraft.

The percentage of seats occupied, however, dropped. Hawaiian says 84.3% of its seats were filled during the year, down from 85.5% in 2010.
