I discovered this beautiful, yet unusual, apartment and thought I would share it with you here. The use of plywood everywhere, and I do mean everywhere, is a unique and brave application.

I would love to hear your thoughts....

Would you use plywood, albeit high-end plywood, as liberally as they have here?

White Interiors

I have posted on white interiors before, several times actually, but it has been awhile since the last post so I thought I would share this beautiful apartment for sale in Stockholm with you.

The curtain-less windows let all of the light in, an admirable attempt in the winter, and flood this spectacular space with natural beauty. The light wood floors provide a beautiful, warm quality to contrast the coolness of the dominant whiteness.

A subtle pop of color in the dining room, is provided by the legs of the dining chairs and the ball

pendent light hanging over the bright white table. If you look closely it appears that they added caster extensions to the legs of the dining table to make the height a bit taller...it's an interesting attempt

and material choice.

The ceiling is embellished with traditional 19th century plaster details and the wooden
doors retain their original elegance.

The chandelier choice for the living room is perfect and provides a touch of history to
compliment the contemporary furniture.

I love the aqua pillows on the sofa. They give a punch of color in an otherwise monochromatic space.
The multicolored artwork ties it all together.

I often dream of creating an outdoor space like this.

It kind of has a 'Secret Garden' feel to it doesn't it?
I love how the bright green grass is a backdrop to the colors of the furnishings.
The fuchsia upholstery on the wing back chair, and the colorful chandeliers, the natural wood armoire
....such a beautiful and peaceful vignette.

It is Lupine season.
Every time I see Lupines I think of the children's book I used to read to my daughters titled, Miss Rumphius. What a lovely story about a lady that wanted to make the world a bit more beautiful.
It is a story that has stayed with me for years.

Lupines also remind me of my anniversary because every year, right about this time, the fields and roadways across Maine are filled with the colors blue, purple, white and pink...a beautiful memory I have for the day I got married. Today, June 18th, is my 23rd wedding anniversary and the Lupines haven't disappointed.
They make me smile and happy...just like my husband.

Suspended with four stylized leaf design chains connecting to a similarly designed circular frame suspending a molded glass in a spectacular ruby color . Each of the eight arms is embellished with six hang-drop cut crystal prisms and holds wax candles.

Beautifully carved bonnet detail on the hood and continuing down to the case which features delicate swans and floral motifs terminating with a fluted fan carving. In the US, Memorial Day brings the start of summer. This is a big event for us northern climate people! After a long winter, we cannot wait for the warm, summer weather to shine upon us. It is a time to get outside and enjoy nature and those we love.

The image above is of a 'sommerhus', or Swedish Summer house designed in a 'New England' style. Being a New England girl I never think of other countries wanting to copy our style. But apparently they do! This pretty little place would be ideal for a Memorial Day getaway don't you think?

I am always struck by the beauty and contrast of black and white interiors. Add a pop of green from a bunch of fresh cut hydrangeas and the natural wood from the Danish Modern chair, and the balance is perfection.
