Why this kolaver di? has seemed to mostly take the form of 'updates or posts' on facebook / twitter, all across the nation. The one reason for it being picked up so fast is its 'Tanglish' version that has made it unique and a perfect mix, being received well by Tamilians and also non-tamilians. Here, truly the sense of unity in diversity comes into play. Its rightly said that 'Music' knows no boundaries and travels to the hearts of all without judging on the lines of Caste/ Religion/ Regionalism/ Race.

"Tough as it may seem, but there's faint line between Opening and Closing your eyes to the reality". Its overwhelming to know that - people opened their eyes and welcomed with smiling face, appreciating the peppy number, mumbling it during office hours or at home, putting the song as caller tune and hello tune on their handsets, playing it in their car and realizing every other passerby is listening to the same song :) WOW... the world is intoxicated with this song.

If not with anything else, then atleast the song is binding us together. Thanks to the viral network, its being ensured that no one person is left from the joy of listning to it and joining the "pa pa paan pa pa paan pa pa paa pa pa paan" trend :)

Sense and Nonsense

Amidst the hope of a 'New India' with steps being taken to fight corruption,we are reminded of the other evils that persist predominantly in the nation, with the recent blast near the Delhi High Court.

There is a lot of anger within, so it might seem that this post is more of a grievance sharing. But seeing innocent people being hurt makes my heart cry and my mind say "what the F***". When will we be a nation safe to live in. When will we, rather than saying "We are proud to be Indians" will act and stand up to fight against the nation-wide slaughter. When will we stop fighting in the name of religion, when no religion promotes CRIME or killing of innocent people. When will we start living as humans and not as cannibals...eating away the life of others.!!!.....SIGH !!

With all this in my mind...when just about to catch some sleep, it felt as if 'Mother Earth' said - "if you don't do something, i sure will" - 'Earthquake in Delhi'

Human race will get extinct come apocalypse or not.....either we make sense out of the deeds we perform or we should stop asking god for our long lives....either we stop following our religious beliefs or we should stop complaining about other religions existing....either we treat everyone as same or no one would treat us as part of the universe....!!!

There is a clear demarcation between sense and nonsense....what do we pick??

Sunday the 31st of July saw its 1st Slut-walk come to India. So this was the 1st time that one could watch females ambling around on the streets in skimpy clothes without any inhibitions. Now if you are a guy who's reading this post, my last sentence should have clearly made your sensory organs that visualize or capture images in the mind to work overtime. Any male's instincts will go berserk, regardless of his age- 16 or 60. I guess that's not the point here. One's libido could be strong anyways- it need not also necessarily be because of the clothes that turn one on.

All the rape and molestation that happens in villages or remote areas is often insulated to western clothing/culture let alone urban India. This is prevalent even within households and amongst relatives. The culprit there doesn't bother if his victim is wearing sleeveless attire or a mini skirt. If clothes were to only triggering factor in such crimes then what reasoning do people have when even minor girls fall prey to unassuming savages?

The Besharam Morcha might be an attempt to in the least give Women the license to wear what they feel like but I don't think it will address the issue of rape or mere lusting. How to stop this heinous act is something that's debatable. Personally for me, it all boils down to having an iron fist and punish the wrong else no amount of Walking Free in the choicest of clothes to spread awareness about women rights will help. Though this is a bold attempt by the naari samaaj I just hope their effort does't go in vain.

Caution : Pay Attention

Recently the incident at Indore, shocked the wits off me.

Its said that there are warning signs asking people not to go down to the waterfall, but that definitely goes unnoticed and out of sheer curosity we tend to do what we are instructed not to. Alas, its not always that we are lucky and forbidden from being victim of an unexpected incident.

This incident proves that there are days when things just don't go the normal way.

Its sad...really sad....We can't blame the nature for what happened, but definitely our negligence and lack of presence of security measures which resulted in loss of 3 lives. This could have been prevented : if at first, they (victims) realized that going against the warnings (of not going near the waterfall)could cost their lives, If, there were security personnels who could have stopped them from going against the warnings stated and If at the end, there were adequate security measures to save them from beight caught in nature's hand.

Flash floods are unexpected and untimely reaction by nature. However, lack of awareness, vigilance, security measures supports the motive of a suddena act like that.

If we can control something to prevent such incidents from happening, it can only be by paying 'ATTENTION TO EVERY SINGLE DETAIL' .

A moment of enjoyment takes seconds to shatter.

So stay awake and be aware !!!

A visit to India Gate

Out of Sight ....but not....Out of Mind...!!

Wanted to write a blog only once I saw myself changing....and have I?...Yes,I have changed to some extent and will keep on changing until apocalypse :p :p (it was meant on a lighter note, people...dunno whether the world ends in 2012, and don't even want to specualte)

With this post, I want to bring into light the common man's perception about the heritage of India. Let's just focus on 'one of the many' such places - THE INDIA GATE - a landmark that commemorates the live's lost fighting the British Empire , along with the 'Amar Jawan Jyoti' which pays homage to the ones lost in the 1971 Ino-Pak war.

However on a recent visit, it appeared that it was more of a 'fun spot' and less of a 'rememberance spot'. The purpose for anyone's visit there, especially the residents of Delhi, is to eat (throw here and there) , play in the pond (having bath in the water and how can we forget ...throwing here and there), play throwball (yes, i have seen people actually playing there), buy all the 'MELA' stuff (the devil hairband , ballons etc.) and etc etc. (the list can be added with your observations in any of your visits there)

The problem is not in 'Enjoying', but in 'Forgetting' the very sanctity of a place. Why has it been used for all commercial purpose, is beyond my understanding capacity. And everytime I visit that place, I feel a lack of nationality and respect.

My personal observation may not present the actual picture, so why don't you pay a visit and see it for yourself.

The concern lies in repsecting the 'nation's monuments' and honoring the purpose for it being created. That's it !!!

Sweet child o' mine!

The long wait for justice came with a shocker of an extension when the CBI closed Arushi's case citing lack of evidence. Then came the tussle between the parents and the country's most upright(anything but this) investigating agency followed by an attack on Rajesh Talwar and the Delhi public's Justice march on 30th Jan.

In all this, my take is that in a country like India, where politicians are busy firefighting for their wrong doings, where the judicial system is always looked up on with suspicion, where upholders of law are flouting it in the open, its victims like Arushi or her parents who will be left in a lurch to fend for themselves. Be it an eyewitness to such crimes or somebody reading an article such as this, will merely clench their fists till the time they say, arre yaar...kii farkh painda hai, India mein yeh sab to chalta hi rahega. But no! This has to stop.

Let there be a beginning to end this habit of "Denying Justice". Whether this is a case of homicide or honour killing, the life of the 14 year old is lost and the authorities should at least bear in mind the importance of life.

I hope and wish that better sense prevail and that the sweet child of the Talwars gets its due.

One alive man witnessing a wrong-doing, files an FIR 3 times, yet no action is taken.But, One dead man, brutally murdered, for trying to reveal the wrong doings, gains attention and hence the much-awaited "Action".

We are talking about the late Yashwant Sonawane, one of those few honest officers, who wanted to stop the Oil Mafia from conducting their wrong deeds. Though having witnessed the same months ago, no strict action was taken (despite submitting the raid reports, conducted by him) to control mafia's activities. But now we see that the incident (post Mr. Yashwant Sonawane being killed) has resulted in the government launching a crackdown on adulteration dens around kerosene depots across Maharashtra.

If the action (of putting the criminal behind the bars) was taken months back when the complaint was filed, it could have actually saved that man from getting killed heinously.

There is no point in blaming the system for it ,as the system constitutes people who are oblivious of their responsibilities, and at one point of time had taken the pledge to perform their duties to the best of their caliber.

The awareness of getting aware starts from us.........the future officers/ leaders etc.

So, lets rewind and ask ourselves,"Have we performed our duties flawlessly......ever?"

No Spit Day

The most observable day to day activity of the residents of our land is 'Spitting' . Just make an effort to see people around you......from the one walking in front of you to the one sitting in car with family or the one sitting beside you...............there comes a moment when they turn their head and leave the proof of their action along with the unpleasant sound of 'Aaaaaathoooo '.

The common habit of chewing pan, tobacco or just spitting for fun / pleasure/ sore throat (god knows what reason is it) makes people spit not only on roads, but also on public property (visit any monument to witness the remnants of this act) , and sometimes they don't even mind spitting on people (applicable to the ones travelling by bus, car etc., who see nowhere and directly put their head out of the window..... and....spit...yes.....along with the unpleasant sound of 'Aaaaaaathooooo') .

The roads/ lifts/ staircases (common places where we find the area of spit highlighted with the red color) are not meant to collect the litters of people, are they? This land , our country, is ours and no one else's ....but do we mistreat our land in this manner? If we take full authority in residing in this land, then don't you think it needs our attention to be handled with care. How are we contributing in bringing a change when we ourselves are not ready to change......?????

We can't stop you from doing what you are doing as you need to do that yourself.

But, what more can we do, but initiate to start observing a 'No Spit Day' ..... funny it may sound....but a small move like this can make a great amount of difference and make people conscious of their moves.

Ok....so nothing grand about this post...but i am just a little curious to share my encounter with getting nearly termed as an 'eve-teaser'..... :D :D ...Before you draw any conclusion, kindly make the effort to read through this post...

So,one fine day, i happen to be a rebel and react on a move by a middle-aged man.

Standing in a queue to exit the metro station (place where you need to punch your coupon/ticket) , i find the 'Big-eyed uncle' (that's how he appeared to me) getting in out of nowhere and trying to adjust himself right in front of me. After giving a sigh, i felt its time i gave uncle a piece of my mind. Hence, i patted his back and gave him a 'Go back' signal. Now ...now.....why would the 'Big-eyed uncle' remain silent on that, he thus, retaliated saying "Jayiye madam, kisne roka hain", I go like ,"Excuse me , are you talking to me?" (least bothered in listening to his revert). He ends up saying "Haath lagane ki kya zarurat hain", i went berserk hearing that....i wanted to say "Uncle, mujhe koi shauk nahi hain, and above all of that, you are not even 1% close to being smart", but i preferred saying "Don't make a big deal out of it, Just CHILL" and placed the earphones in my ear, to avoid myself from listening to his further indecent comments.

Did the "Big-eyed Uncle" think that he was doing a wonderful task by barging in and above all blaming the person for patting his back, pretending as if the latter move was more indecent than the former.

I am not annoyed, surprised or angry. I am overwhelmed with the reaction i received and it has opened my eyes to a different India. India has not been like this, 'We' have made it the way it is. Do we realize the amount of damage we make our nation go through. If we can't abide by normal standards of living, why do we complain and blame the government for all the other things. Petty things like these is one of the many reasons why the country is striving to see the days of transformation and development.

Horn...Not Ok....Please !!

Failing to understand the reason of unnecessary noise pollution emerging in traffic, i am compelled to pen down a practical concern. Does it make sense of blowing the horn when you know that the vehicle in front of you cannot move, because there is another vehicle in front of it and another and another.....

Having experienced the same at the time of traveling during morning peak hours, on one of such days, i literally wanted to get down and go to the uncle blowing the horn incessantly and say "Uncle udd ke jaoge kya". But seeing that every car around me was repeating uncle's actions, i could just end up gazing with anger.

We, Indians, are just too desperate and impatient. If our reason for getting late can be blamed on someone else, we would do the honor, won't we? The soon we realize that the reason for our problems is not anyone else but we ourself, then our lives would become much much better. What's your take on that?

So before blowing the horn and damaging one's eardrums, look around and see if your action makes sense or not? If you change, then all those around you are bound to change as well. This will be gyan for those who don't want to take it, but still ponder over it a little.

A pleasant Sunday morning ended up in an altercation with a guy whose mutt dropped its shite right in front of my house. And this, with the guy standing and watching nonchalantly. When I asked (you think so?) him how his civic sense was so low, and that how he could allow this to happen, I was shocked on hearing, "koi law hai to batao yaaro". Now, do we need laws & rules to keep people from making their pets to defecate around the world? How is it that our sense of hygiene and sanitation reached such lows? The same guy or anyone in his place would ensure this doesn’t happen in front his own house, would he? World over there are rules where-in pet owners need to carry a bag and collect the faeces. Even in Mumbai there are action groups which keep the pressure mounted on BMC to monitor and ensure that the faeces are collected and discarded by pet owners all by themselves. My question is, will only an iron fisted approach be the solution to something as basic keeping our own surroundings clean? People should understand the dangers of leaving pet wastes in the streets that in turn would affect their own surroundings. It is learnt that this waste in turn reaches our drains/gutters and then to all the connected natural water bodies. The same waste then comes back to us through the sea food we eat. Now pl tell me, whether bye-laws and govt. rulings to stop us dirtying our environment or a concerted action by way of educating pet owners would be more effective? I think we all know the anwer.

The repercussions of the so called "Strong' religious beliefs, is ultimately borne by the common man. I don't know how to react on this,...... should i feel sorry on the ones who are victims of the malicious act or should i laugh on the extent to which the belief is taken that it makes one 'Blind' and 'Inhuman'.

This post is in context to the recent news of "Swami Aseemanand" confessing the RSS leaders role (including him) in planning the Samjhauta Express and Malegaun blasts (the list of their activities seems longer than this as the Hindutva extremists are accused of planning the Ajmer Shareef and Mecca Masjid blasts as well).

With my eyes raised and head moving right - left in disagreement, the least i can do is raise my concern here. What has further shocked me is the statement that came

from dear Swami baba "I told everybody that bomb ka jawab bomb se dena chahiye (we should reply to bomb blasts with bombs) I told everyone since 80 per cent of Malegaon are Muslims, we should explode the bomb in Malegaon.’’

Are we Indians or Criminals? (i am the former, irrespective of my religion and would prefer the latter to be a new religion from now) What game are we playing in the name of our religious beliefs? Is this a home of terrorists, spreading terror across in such a manner? . I am ashamed and disheartened of living in a land where hatred exists predominantly and instead of eradicating the evil, it is being promoted by the activists.

Is there a solution? Yes, there is...... if we start realizing and stop promoting discrimination basis religion and caste. If an ill is done, it's crucial for us to look for measures to avoid it from happening again, not make it a reason to retaliate.

Should we glorify the ones who take the step of killing others because they disagree with their opinion?

For us, such an action means, the individual was coward, as he could not be outspoken about his views and hence, ended up taking the life of the one who had the courage to ask for justice.

Your personal dissatisfaction doesn't mean that someone's life be taken for granted.

Salman Taseer, is one of those individuals who had the courage to speak against a law which he considered unjust. Here, an opinion is meant to be accepted or rejected, not meant to be the reason to kill. His intent to go against was to save a woman (Asia Bibi) from a mistake she committed but not intended to. Was that a wrong thing to take stand for? Was that a question mark on his religious beliefs? Was that a reason... a reason so valuable that his life carried no value.

Some believe that Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri (alleged for assassinating Salman Taseer) did a tremendous job, by raising his weapon on the man who spoke against the blasphemy law - A work of 'Glory'. For some it is the other way round, he is a criminal and hence - A 'Shame', for the country and for all those who supported the noble intent of the late Salman Taseer.

Awake Spot honors and salutes the late Mr. Taseer for his bravery and supports the cause he stood for. There isn't anything wrong in having an opinion and standing by it, what's wrong is to 'SHUT' a person from the right to speak and stand for a cause.

This might be a stale topic to write on considering the life expectancy of a scam in India depends solely on Indian news channels blasting our TV screens for that day/evening. Nevertheless I had to pen my views...

The tapes show/expose the thirst for power and information in this rat-eat-man-race (rats' appetite has burgeoned over the years) with ulterior motives. We all knew politics as a dirty game played by saathvi aur paanchvi kaksha pheil goondas or even worse angutha chaaps. But even the fairly educated ones who we thought can be entrusted with the job of development want the kursi to simply satisfy their ego or personal ambitions. One-upmanship or at least attempting to show one’s superiority by its lobbying for a post in the Union cabinet shows these MPs will go to any extent to become a power centre (we know that they are masters rigging polls anyways). Ministries & portfolios were being selected just like ticking an option from a multiple choice question without any knowledge or understanding of any of the sectors available.

If erring ministers getting the way were not enough, we had our multi-tasking lobbyist having play insider to the top guns of the Industry as well. Now little did we know that even the Emperor of the “Titans” who is known for his integrity didn't play fair when it came to beating his rivals for a better share of the 2G spectrum.

In all this I wonder, why eminent journalists who claim to safeguard the nations’ interest and get the truth out in the open should be party to such conspiracy theories. Every night when I watch the news channels and their reportage, I get the feeling that even this bit of news could not be the truth, or could be straight from a mantri’s personal assistant who wants the public to hear just what he wants to say.

All this would make the average Indian more cynical about his future and make him wonder when his country, that was once a sone ki chidiya be free from plunderers that emerge from its own soil; from people who think only about their own gains and not about social well being; from legitimate businessmen who want to illegitimately get their way by feeding the corrupt politician and from the cronies and chamchas who make everyone so openly say, sab gandha hai par dandha hai yeh.

But despite this aura of negativity, I personally feel that there’s light at the end of the tunnel albeit a little far away. There will come a time when all this garbage will be incinerated and the world will be free from the ever lingering stench of corruption and deceit.

Collateral Murder - Right To Know

Lately a lot has been talked about the Freedom Of Information act, the right to know what's happening around you and the right to reason out whether it is 'right or not'. The citizens of any country expect their system to be transparent and all necessary information to be shared with the nationals. They trust them and give them the authority to perform activities for the welfare of the nation and their residents. However, a mere mention of the revelation from Wikileaks on 'Collateral Murder' questions the integrity and sanctity of the same.

What you see is not what actually happened. So even though, some officials might question the authenticity of the leaked documents, still can they answer the reason for the issue to have been left under wraps. Many innocent individuals (who were the target in the murder) could not even ask for mercy at the behest of the ignorant officials.

As picked up from Wikipedia ;

There is no conclusion that can be drawn, but the fact clearly lies in front of us ......."Be Awake & Aware", If something needs an action , then act upon it.....

Why India remains a corrupt nation

En route to Tirupati(T) from Hyderabad(H), there's a small station called Renigunta(R) which is only about 15 mins from Tirupati. Having done our reservation only till Renigunta, Dad had wanted an extension( TTE seldom checks whether you get off at R or T when you are on your way to visit the Lord's town). Now our TTE at H, suggest to pay 300 bucks as official charges for extension( bollocks) else he'd "help" us by talking to a change over TTE in the morning for an unofficial mandvaali for a lower "fee". Now who wouldn't jump at this option-discount on 300 bucks for an extension ticket, when your fare from H-T itself costs 900 . Sensing that the kaala coat wala uncle was about to take us for a royal ride, Satyavaadi Harishchandra that my Dad is said he'd talk to the changeover TTE instead, . And like always the latter didn't even bother.

Simple Lesson learnt:
- Question whatever doesn't make sense. If we are actually in the wrong, weatleast learn what right.
- We take the easy way out(bribe) when it comes to covering up our mistakes. And these govt. officials take undue advantage of us.
- Change begins with US. Don't shy away from undoing the wrong.

What an awesome way to shower your love to an unknown who might be in desperate need of it. Hats off to this concept which started off months prior to June 30, 2004, when Mann had been feeling depressed and lonely as a result of numerous personal difficulties and how a random hug from a stranger made an enormous difference. Mann states that "...I went out to a party one night and a completely random person came up to me and gave me a hug. I felt like a king! It was greatest thing that ever happened"

Stop That Act

Have you ever walk past a crowd of guys? Well I recently did.

I preferred, walking away with music playing loud in my ears to avoid their raunchy comments and goggles to stare back and pretend as if i hardly cared.

How does it feel when all the eyes fall on you for all obvious reasons. It makes you feel disgusted with their misdemeanor and curse them for their behavior. Though there isn't a solution as such, but if things go out of control, don't stop yourself from voicing an opinion.

I used to do that often, and it gave me peace at heart when I retaliated. But lately, I have decided to walk through it, unless something needs my attention and my reaction, else every coming day would start off with an argument. :p

My intent behind writing this post is to ask the women to raise their voice about such acts. It wouldn't probably make much of a difference to the guys, but if you keep mum and let it happen then it builds the confidence of the ones who ill-treat women every now and then.

I don't allow it to happen to me and I will not allow it to happen to you , will you ....?

The other day i was traveling with my mother by metro. We were on our way to chandni chowk and were waiting at the rajiv chowk station for the train to arrive. Standing in the line we saw a blind man come and join us, with the support of another guy.

As the metro arrived at the platform, the crowd swarmed out of the train and everyone standing on the platform were pushing each other to get inside. In midst of this commotion the blind man was forced on one side of the train, with no one to guide him through. That moment my mom took his hand and pulled him in safely.

Aruna Shanbaug's - Living the torture

Have you come across an incident so gruesome as that of 'Aruna Shanbaug' ; well i certainly haven't. Her journey of life being just a mere display of the injustice done to her, something that is again and again passing by her.

A glimpse of her story as picked from wikipedia :

Aruna Shanbhag is a nurse from Haldipur, Shimoga, Karnataka in India. In 1973, while she was working at King Edward Memorial Hospital, Parel, Mumbai she was assaulted by a Sohanlal Bhartha Walmiki, a ward boy at the hospital.^[1] Walmiki was motivated partly by resentment for being ordered about and castigated by Shanbaug.

On the night of 27 November, 1973 he attacked her while she was changing clothes in the hospital basement for leaving her shift. He choked her with a dog chain and sodomized her. The asphyxiation during the course of the assault cut off oxygen supply to her brain resulting in brain stem contusion injury and cervical cord injury as well as leaving her cortically blind

The initial medical examination to verify rape as the crime found that Aruna had no vaginal bruises and her hymen was intact. Aruna was menstruating on the day and therefore the rapist did not penetrate her. Subsequent medical reports prove that she bled for days together from the anus.

The police case was registered as a case of robbery and attempted murder, but not rape on account of the concealment of anal rape by the doctors under the instructions of the Dean of KEM, the late Dr. Deshpande perhaps to avoid the social rejection which might break her impending marriage to her fiancé, Dr. Sundeep Sardesai.

She since the assault has been in a vegetative state "TILL DATE".

The last few words are disheartening and especially when you realize that her fight for justice is still ongoing...

The reason for sharing this story is because, it has left an impact on me as a person and only if what she went through is shared with all, can justice eventually be sought for.

No effort goes in vain , if there is a purpose behind it. The purpose is to let the crime builders know the after effects of their cruel intents, and the fight to seek for justice from the so called justice givers.
