Awakening sense

paying heed

What could be of greater help,
But paying less heed to ego-mind in oneself and others?

What service surpasses this simple act,
For what could disarm ego-mind more?

Though Self's presence may rarely be sensed,
Why not imagine it's that same presence in all?

For in the end what else remains,
Before which all else is a passing show?

bread and water

Doubt is ego-mind's bread and water,
Serving to feed its many conflicting I's.

But there's a different doubt that's ego-mind's death knell,
As we suspect that who we think we are is simply spellbound.

Cultivating this gut feeling begins to open doors,
Giving confidence about the certainty of awakening.

This develops a force of its own,
Like a coiled spring, ready to spring forth at any moment.

wild goose chase

Which inner I is in charge at any given moment?
That's a wild goose chase and hard to pin down.

Who we think we are is tossed about like a ball by playful children,
Exhausting the mind that tries to track it down.

But our heart/mind calms the frenzy,
And these children lay their toys at our feet.

Then our awakening-self can start seeing through this game,
Is readied to taste the wine of the Beloved's presence.
