XBMC addons on Enigma2

In the absence of time we missed this news last week but PCD made a new plugin for Enigma2.

Hi Friends,

Here is a little plugin for running xbmc addons on enigma2 images. Tested on a dm500hd with the latest official image.

Please test the addons streaming German videos - as I cannot test them much in UK.

The image should have installed the rtmp support software. With some other images - also
required python-imaging and python-html.
Install method :-
(1) Install plugin ipk.
(2) Unzip the attached xbmc addons (your choice !) and ftp to folder -
/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/XBMCAddons/XBMC
(3) Use Settings to set your cache folder.
For some rtmp streams - the Download must be selected first.
Please report which addons work - and which have problems. I shall test more addons in future and post them here.

OpenATV starts testing with 3.9.2 kernel

After the release of kernel 3.9.2 and the new drivers by the Ripper, OpenATV has build an image with this new kernel and drivers.

Although the image is absolutely not meant for production, it looks very promissing.
Betatesters are testing the image, to trace bugs, so OpenATV can fix them and build the image for public release.

We would like to emphasize that the current status of the image is pre-beta. It is only meant for beta-testers.
Nevertheless, nice to know that OpenATV works on a new image.

Persian Prince is First with kernel 3.9.2 Image for AZbox ME

Persian Prince:

first build with kernel/drivers 3.9.2 for azboxme :
it has all kernel/drivers updates but gstreamer won't work now , you should wait (no ETA right now)

It's a Tiny release not Lite or Full so don't expect so much just test booting status , drivers ...
don't forget to write your feedback.

No more AZplay for OpenRSi

OpenRSi has released a new daily build of the Azbox image, in which they have gone back to the MRUA player to play audio and video content.

Thanks to sattommy, it is now also possible to play ISO and DVD content.

OpenRSi has left Azplay, because it was less stable and development has been brought to a halt.

So, from now on, MediaCenter should be a major step forward.

Changelog:
+ DVD playback
+ ISO playback
- No longer based on Azplay

Known issue:

Fast Forward (>>) and Backwards (<<) unstable.

Subtitle configuration -> green screen

Added issues:

- Subtitles with utf not shown correctly.

Despite of these issues, MediaCenter should work okay with skip-buttons (1, 4, 7 and 3, 6, 9 keys) and >>| seek button

Since a few hours new drivers appeared on Google Code. Now it's waiting when they release firmware which can talk with these drivers.

Hong Kong, 18. July 2013. Leontech, responsible for the distribution of the Dreambox brand of Linux-based set-top boxes, is launching three existing models of Dreamboxes into the trade with improved hardware. The DM500 HD as well as the DM800 HD se and the DM7020 HD will be equipped with new memory modules, increasing the performance of these boxes, which have won many awards. In addition a release image will be published for the OE2.0 software for this second generation of Dreamboxes.

To date, the DM500 HD and the DM800 HD se have come equipped with a 64 MB flash memory. The random access memory used to be 256 MB. The new hardware components mean that the flash memory in both Dreamboxes is increased to 1 GB. The random access memory capacity is doubled to 512 MB. The increased memory capacity will allow users to install significantly more plug-ins and other extensions, thus increasing the range of functions of their Dreambox.

This means that both the compact DM500 HD and the DM800 HD se now feature the same memory capacity as the DM7020 HD. This Dreambox, too, is being equipped with new memory modules, as the modules used previously are no longer available from the suppliers.

To coincide with the new hardware in the second generation Dreamboxes, Leontech will make available a release image for the OE2.0 software. To date, only a beta version of the software has been available, which, among other features, supports the HbbTV standard.

Leontech spokesperson Louis Lee: „This hardware update ensures the DM500 HD and the DM800 HD se remain at the cutting edge of technology. The expansion of memory capacity allows users to adapt their Dreamboxes even better to their individual preferences.

Let's see what the guys of Myazbox.de did with some fundraising. Those guys ROCK!!!!

Fundraising and OpenATV, progress.

As reported before , the fundraising of Myazbox.de is very succesfull. OpenATV goes AZbox! Colla posted the about the recent progress. All what we can say: Colla, Myazbox.de, OpenATV and all supporters: thank you for not letting us down!!!! And you are still welcome to support the fundraising!

As a rough idea but still.

The most important innovation is HbbTV. It actually runs satisfactorily now on Me On the MiniMe there are still problems. But that which we have only 1 tester and is not sure whether it is not a hardware problem its box. In the "old" boxes it only works with a USB stick. Possibly. can change that if you created the partitions with Azup else (But is just speculation from me, one can not at the moment). Yes, and on these boxes it is just very very slow, apparently because the boxes have too little RAM. Enigma2 and HbbTV need something under 200 MB, but there are only 128 MB available. Therefore, the RAM using SWAP must be stored on a memory. And that is the same as on a PC, where it indeed probably know most of them. This slows the system scary.

The image itself is stable and good. The driver error can not iron out but. Work is still on smaller improvements and especially to the keymap.

Dear friends, you have to understand that prismCUbe will be something new and revolutionary.
Vu+ company started to work to this project more than 2 years ago.
At that time there was not the availability of opengl2 on mipsel platforms and XBMC was impossible to port to mipsel architeture.

For this reason Vu+ have choosen the Arm platform that can ensure good performance in 3d graphics with medium cpu frequency.
This was a good choice for this project because it can ensure the production of a set-top-box capable to manage 3d graphics mantaining a reasonable price using cpu that doesn't require high power, but can work with low power consumption and have not overheating issues.
At that time there was not yet any kind of porting of Xbmc for Arm platforms.
So Vu+ with their engineers have started to work to Xbmc porting.

But XBMC cannot make a set-top-box. After the porting the work have been focused in added dvb and pvr parts.
In other words the main work is that XBMC have been married with all the satellite and dvb managment parts needed to have a final stb product. All that parts that in mipsel boxes are managed by enigma2.

But there is not enigma2 inside PrismCube. Vu+ developed all this work in original way.
The result is a new stb where satellite dvb and pvr parts are married with XBMC that is the high level end user interface for all the system.
We can think to all this like a kind of XBMC extended system that integrate inside itself the stb managment too.

Because we are no more in enigma1 and no more in enigma2 but in a totally new low level and user interface stb integrated parts you have to be a little bit patient.
But please remeber that this is all new and we will need time to study and start to make test and experiments before to have something for it.
We can promise from now that this board, this community and all Bh team will support in all the way the PrismCube box and will study it and will learn with you this wonderful new way.

There a still some devs working for us, the AZbox owners.

According to the ripper (azbox legend) kernel 3.9.2 is coming :

-fix pixelization on high bandwith h264 streams >10Mbps
-fix driver crashing when exiting pvr mode on EOF signal.
-fix decoding one h264 feed (hiccup video) (some feeds he is watching was making problem)
-removed locking from vtuner write kernel function, not needed anymore
etc...

When the kernel is getting released is unknown. But we think it will be a great moment for releasing with the kernel a statement from the new owners and the mysterious developers of the kernels wich aren't open source and nowhere to find.

They owe it to the people who bought and own an azbox.

OpenRSi solves MC issues

OpenRSi had some problems with MediaCenter since May.

They have rebuild MediaCenter and gave it a small makeover.

Fundraising makes things possible which Opensat let go

Two weeks ago we wrote about the Fundraising:

After, in vain, trying to get in contact with DT innovation, German AZBox users have launched the idea to raise money to purchase AZBox receivers.
These receivers will then be handed out to developers, hoping they will and can make firmware and plug-ins for the 1^st and 2^nd generation AZBox receivers.
If it is really going to be fundraising is still unclear, but the idea is discussed on myazbox.de
