MLM is famous for over-promising and under-delivering. One thing's for sure: there is a lot of hype in Network Marketing.
Unfortunately, all the hype out there creates false hope and expectations, which contribute to the negative image many people have of the network marketing and home based business industry.
If you are new to Network Marketing (or even if you've been in the industry for awhile), you may be tempted to contribute to all the hype out there. After all, if other people are doing it, it must work, right? It may work sometimes, usually in the short term, but something that will work far more effectively is adding true value to prospects.
People who attract customers and business partners with hype generally don't attract people who stay very long. On the other hand, Network Marketers who attract people by providing valuable information, no strings attached, are likely to attract higher quality prospects and customers. Higher quality prospects and customers will inevitably lead to a more successful business.
Here are a few tips to help you make sure you're adding value to the Network Marketing industry rather than flooding it with hype.
Put Yourself in Your Prospect's Shoes. If you were the prospect, what would you think about the presentation you are giving, the ad you are placing, or the forum post or article you are writing? When it comes to the process network marketing recruiting many people give up on the first, second or third try and just end up thinking is way too hard for them to do.
These people are your perfect example of quitters, those who just give up at something and make up excuses saying it was just too hard. Those people blame everyone else but themselves and is very obvious why they are not successful.
Probably not just in network marketing either!
If you are one of these people then you better start dedicating yourself to get better by developing more skills. You must not wish it was easier you have to develop more skills and get better.
The only way to get better at something is to keep on doing it until you begin to get it right. Remember it's not all about sales talent but there has to be experience as well. Those who give up too easily are those who never get over the top and succeed.
If you are serious about being successful then you must have the mental strength to endure the rough times that you will undergo. I can give you some basic concepts on the whole recruiting method but when it comes down to it what matters is if you decide to stick around even through the struggles.
When you decide to recruit someone the worst way to do it is by approaching them with your business opportunity upfront. They will not pay attention to you and they will feel that all you care about is to sell them. This was the old school way of doing things years ago and sadly to say there are many network marketers still trying to do it today.
Only, the best and most savvy salesman can do it (2% to 5%) today!
But, there is a much better way for the newbie. It's called a system and you need one to be successful in the new wave network marketing information age. A system that can create leads automatically, filter through and find the quality prospects worth spending time with. Plus, it must also pay you even if the majority of these lead don't join your primary MLM company.

How To Talk To A Woman In Network Marketing (MLM)

“Closers Wanted", or "You Have To Close The Deal”, or my personal favorite "ABC - Always Be Closing"

Have you ever heard these clowns using their guerilla closer tactics tell you, “Bring everyone you can find into the meeting and I’ll close ‘em for ya”?

Maybe, your still in one of those companies where the biggest, beefiest super guerilla closer of them all is supposed to close all the dull-whitted prospects you manage to bring to a tele-call everyday?

You have probably also heard the super fat cat awesome closer gets the big box because he is so important that he deserves that reward the most.

Have you ever noticed it is the guerilla closer tactician that gets the lime light up on the stage? What with his power suit, power shirt, power tie, power watch, and yes even power under wear? Man, watch him strut! Can you tell how much he loves it?

Those guys think they are so cool because closing is the most important thing on the planet, and only they know how to do it because they have cevelar skin, titanium bones, and liquid nitrogen blood. They just know they are “all that”.

What Is Missing Here? Did you see one mention of the word “she” or “her”?

No.

Why do you suppose that is guys?

HINT: None of the gals are guessing.

Guys, until now I have stuck it to you, a lot like you stuck it to the girls you have “scored on”, to get your attention.

In network marketing men seem to think that the faster and more often they can “score” .. oops … er, uh … I mean “close” the better.

Wake up fellas!

If the girls you tried to "close" in the back seat of your dads car did not want that back then, what makes you think that things have changed just because the game is now MLM or Network Marketing?

And get very little....if any "support" from you the closing gun slinger who's just out for the thrill of the kill!

Meanwhile where is mister Romeo? Dragging some other poor girl into the same “close”.

That girl knows that in today’s network marketing world it takes weeks, or even months just to build good relationships. They need to be sure your not going to just take off after you get what you really wanted, the "close".

That takes trust, understanding and support!

Then it will probably take another 1 to 3 years for those relationships to pay off in the form of a long-term, residual income. And of course by this time that girl, who became a mother is now a grandmother so she may be needed to help with the next generation of new network marketing youngsters.

That girl … no … that woman knows all this takes is first trust, planning, and passion. That woman knows what most guys have yet to learn …

Here Is What Women Know...

It is NOT all about the “close” or the first sale.

She hates being “closed” as much as she hated being treated and talked to as a “score”.

She is NOT a thing to be “closed”, she is a person. Building a long-term business customer base takes a lot of understanding people needs, patience in training, and nurturing. Starting out with a long-term mind set is most important to success in MLM.

You Using A Sharp or Dull Axe In Your Network Marketing Business?

Imagine walking up to a man trying to chop down a tree in the forest. He's struggling with all his might and yet he's barely made any progress.

You look at him and you see that he is chopping at the tree vigorously and he's been at it for quite some time and he's intent on getting the tree to down.

He has a single focus and is using all the proper leverage and perfect technique, but as you get close you see there is one thing out of place.

He's using a dull blade.

You say to the man . . .

"Hey buddy why don't you just sharpen your blade, you'll get the job done twice as fast?"

He replies . . .

"No time, can't you see I'm trying to chop down this tree?"

Well, when I first started network marketing I was this guy out in the prospecting forest trying to chop down my tree of successfully building a downline.

I hacked at it. I tried all the techniques I was told were proper and I was intent on using them with all my might until my goal was reached.

Unfortunately, the guy in our example above had one advantage over me.

He had someone actually come up to him and point out his problem.

The sad truth is . . .

If someone had done this for me I probably would have given them the same response that our man with the axe above gave.

I would have said . . .

"Can't you see I'm trying to make cold calls and build a downline? I don't have time for that!"

While in the act and exerting all our energy to a task we give very little time to reflection on what may truly help us be more successful. We think that if we just keep hacking away that sooner or later we will be successful in achieving our end.

While this may hold true . . .

Wouldn't a sharper blade make that struggle a whole lot easier?

I hear a question brewing . . .

"Pat, you say a blade, but what does this equate to in network marketing?"

I had decided that I wanted to help people change their lives. Zig Ziglar has said, you can get anything you want by helping other people get what they want. What I wanted was a fairly simple concept that I could teach people that could have a dramatic impact on them.

So I thought a while and came up with B-MIS. B-MIS is an entire philosophy and approach to evaluating and building multiple income stream. It begins with helping people to understand that they need multiple income streams, and teachs how evaluate, select and to develop additional income streams. Now people have been talking about creating multiple income streams for a while now, but they just say it as an activity, they don't discuss how to intelligently accomplish it.

B-MIS is going to be my gift, the first fifty years of my life have been focused on family, career and myself. The next fifty years I am focusing on helping people by sharing what I know, then at 100 I will retire.

Is Your Income Stream Overflowing its Banks

After a heavy rain or a spring thaw, run off water will flow into stream and rivers and cause them to raise their level and overflow their banks. In some cases after the influx of water the level of the river or stream will go down lower than it was before.

The same thing can happen to your income stream. From time to time we receive an influx of money, promotion, inheritance, lottery winning, successful sales campaign, or in the current case and economic stimulus check.

We need to have a plan on what to do with this additional income, or like the overflowing river, it will be absorbed somewhere, and we will scratch our head and wonder what happened to it. Or worse we overspend because of the influx of money and end up having more monthly expenses because of it.

So what are you going to do with your check from the government? Blow it on a new TV, take a vacation, let it sit in your checking account and get slowly absorbed? Or are you going to pay down debt, buy a CD (certificate of Deposit, not the latest Kelly Clarkson CD), invest in your business or maybe make a contribution to your favorite charity.

If you do not pro-actively plan for the times when you will receive extra income, in the excitement of the moment you might do dumb things.

PS. Oh just by the way, this economic stimulus check you are receiving is actually an advance on your next years tax return. So if you are the type that uses your income tax return for a vacation or for purchasing big ticket items, remember next year the amount will be reduced by the check you are getting now.

I used to counsel people that if they would just tighten up a bit, they could pay off all their debts in a few year. The trouble was, people did not want to sacrifice the little things, they did not get the sense of satisfaction on paying off a credit card versus buying a tv with the card instead. There did not seem to be a positive reinforcement to pay off bills, when they are getting all these advertisements that they will be so much happier with a new car or a bigger house.

I think we should take the word SACRIFICE out of the dictionaries in the United States, because we do not know what it means, and we definitely don't know what Self Sacrifice is.

That's why I have decided to promote the concept of B-MIS (Build Multiple Income Streams), instead of asking people to scrip and save and pay off their debt's, instead let's increase and secure their income, then they can start paying off their debts with the excess. Using B-MIS we can secure the income coming in, so that if we lose a job, we have another income stream to help replace it. B-MIS puts us on the track to Financial Freedom, on of the concepts of B-MIS is to use the additional income to pay off debts, which increases the value of the income stream. I will go into this concept in my next Blog entry.

It seems like everyone is so afraid of where the economy is going today, are we heading into a recession. I live in Milwaukee and Harley Davidson has just announced a layoff of several hundred workers.

Well I am making it my mission to start spreading the word on B-MIS (pronounced bee miss) which stands for "Build Multiple Income Streams"

In our changing world we can't rely on a single or even two income streams. Since most people live paycheck to paycheck, if one of their income streams is interrupted, they are in big trouble.

So I want to get to people to start thinking about how they can build multiple income streams to protect their standard of living and help them plan for the future.

The great thing about B-MIS is that it could be a part time job, a home business, an internet business, or anything that brings additional income into the home on a regular basis.

So we owe it to our families to start thinking in terms of what additional income streams that we can build to protect our financial future.

Is there a economic storm looming on the horizon. A few years ago Robert Kiyosaki wrote a book titled “Rich Dad’s Prophecy”, unlike most of Robert’s works, this one was not well received. In the book he put forth the idea that when the majority of the baby boomers hit 70 years old around 2016, they will be forced to start withdrawing all of their invested 401K money, which will cause a major drop in the stock market. All those dollars invested in stock mutual funds will be sold off to fulfill a government mandate.

Mark Yarnell the MLM Guru and author of best selling Your First Year in Network Marketing, is talking about the disappearance of the middle class because of globalization and lack of US competitiveness., in fact he has a recruiting talk called The Beach or the Soup Line.

This all fits into to my belief that if we had another great depression, it would cripple the US for good. Because during the last depression our government was not mortgaged to the hilt and could take on massive debt in the form of work programs and building project to help fuel the recovery.

So why all the doom and gloom? Hopefully to open your eyes and have you start take responsibility for your own financial future. You can not rely on corporations for you’re future anymore. Take your future in your own hands, start a business and work to security that you can control.

Network Marketing versus Affiliate Marketing

I have recently talked to an individual about his business goals. He said he was interested in starting in Affiliate Marketing, then went on to describe the company he joined, and it was actually a Network Marketing company. He was confused, so I sent him Wikopedia definitions on Network and Affiliate to help him with his confusion. I told him to me the basic difference to me is that Affiliate Marketing is a solo internet endeavor, even though your are working with the vendor of the products you market, you are on your to build your site and Adwords campaigns to drive the traffice that will make you the money in this type of business. Now Network Marketing is by it's nature a people centric business. True the Internet and technology may open the door to more prospects, but in the end to be successful in Network Marketing you have to make a person to person connection to the people you sponsor to be successful. So if you want to sit alone in front of your computer and tweek your fifty Google Adwords Ad, stick to Affiliate Marketing, but if you want to work with other people who can help you and lift you up when you are down do Network Marketing.

Ever hear this one before; I’m starting a new business. I have this great idea no one has ever thought of. When you talk to the individual a few weeks or months later and ask how’s the business going, 99.9999% of the time they will respond, Oh it didn’t work out, or I ran out of money, or nobody wanted a mink covered pot holders. They will probably have loads of excuses, but 9 times out 10 it comes down to they did not have a repeatable system to run their business.

Look at the most successful business in the world, and you will find they have a system that they use day in and day out to run their business. If a problem arises or things aren’t working as well as expected, they tweak the system to improve it. They don’t start from scratch. Once you have the system in place, then you can train anyone to run the system, and you can grow the business or go off and start another business.
We should all learn a lesson from the fast food chains McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, Taco Bell, they are the ultimate developers of success systems. If you have money and want more of it, go buy a McDonald’s franchise, you are guaranteed success, if you follow their system.

So what does this have to with running a business on the internet? Simple, if you want to succeed, you need a system. If you don’t have system YOU WILL FAIL. There a thousands of successful people using the internet to give themselves financial freedom, the difference between you and them, they have a system.

Ok, so what is a system? A system details step by step on how you run your business every day. It tells you to check daily to see if anyone has signed up for your business, and then tells you what email response you should send to that individual. It tells you how to market your service on the internet. It tells you how much you should spend on advertising and what services to use. A great system has everything defined down to the smallest detail. That way you can make it work and anyone you want to bring into your business can make it work. If you need a PhD to run the system, it’s to complicated. Remember who works at McDonalds, the system has to be simple enough for anyone who is motivated to make a success of it.

So then what should I do, I don’t now how to develop a system? Go track down one of those individuals who has a proven system and join their marketing or sale group, and learn from them and do what they do. Then turn around and train someone else to do it with you. Then you will succeed.
