“Pray to Jesus. He’ll make all the fat go away.”
Tried it! Was informed quite categorically that praying is not a cardio-vascular exercise! But the soul did feel lighter for the effort!

@anirban:
Without any doubt, that is the best tip there is.. However, it's not the kind that would find it's way into books like "tips that help you live healthier". I guess it all depends on the objective of the tip.

@priyanka:
Well, when I heard about the movie "The Exorcist" for the first time, I thought it was a scary movie involving treadmills, exercise bicycles and evil gym trainers. Of course, at the time, I was waay too young to realize it was a sci-fi comedy.

@usha:
The visualization technique does not apply, Usha. Not to me. I'm vaguely amused by the Indian frenzy for cricket matches, but am not really into sporting events... not even watching them from a safe distance, melting into my couch... Of course, if the same is valid for movies, I might have a shot... And yet, one has to ask the question - IF one is to spend time, energy, and considerable processing power in terms of creative thinking into visualizing things, why.. oh, WHY, would one want to visualize onself? Seems rather like wasted efforts to me... And that's one thing I always try (and consistently manage) to avoid.

what nonsense? no one ever adviced you to try the "visualisation" technique? you just have to sit yourself down on your comfy couch, watch your cricket matches, hog on your chicken, milkshake n all, n just try visualising yourself to be slim n trim n fit when the commercials are on. athrollooo..

and about digressions in blogposts, I feel all of them posts have a fate of their own.. as much as the self important beings who are busy at the keypads might want to disagree. what say?

The best tip I use personally is to eat all the high-fat food I have around the house to get rid of it. Then I go shopping when I'm hungry again so that I can restock. :)

@soumya:

Hey, thanks. I'm a big fan of Dave, and it's great if you see his influence in my writing. From time to time, I'm sure you'll be able to notice other influences as well... from authors to comedians to sitcom characters, and hopefully... a blend that I can call my own.

I had missed this entry from Dave; thanks for pointing it out. Subtle or not, your compliment is much appreciated. :)

I was right. Not only does your blog exhibit a strong influence of Dave Barry, you guys seem to share near similar experiences (he had a similar one - http://www.miamiherald.com/living/columnists/dave-barry/story/1348082.html).

But influence, or no influence, the subtlety of your humour is a joy to read...
