"In a world that shifts beneath our feet, balance is not a destination—it's a continuous act of becoming." ...

In a world that shifts beneath our feet, balance is not a destination—it’s a continuous act of becoming.

A friend sent me a message. It basically questioned the humans’ ability to keep their balance in a shaky, brittle, and uncertain world. The rate of change makes our world volatile, and this further makes walking the tightrope of balance even harder.

We need first to differentiate the three types of balance: static balance, dynamic balance, and unstable balance.

Stable: A ball at the bottom of a bowl will return to the center if pushed slightly.

Dynamic: Tightrope walking balance while carefully walking requires constant adjustments to counteract slight imbalances.

Unstable: A pencil balanced on its point will fall over if disturbed.

Notice that dynamic equilibrium may become unstable with more than little disturbance and become unstable. Tightrope walking is the example that leads to catastrophes if disturbed more than necessary.

Humans experience different kinds of balances, such as emotional balance, creative thinking and logical thinking balance, social balance, and work-life balance.

The problem humans face now is the volatility of change, the uncertainty of the future, the feedback effect that makes a slight change induce a butterfly effect and thus throws humans far from balance and disrupting their lives.

But even in this whirlwind of unpredictability, humans demonstrate a remarkable resilience. The secret isn’t in seeking perfect stillness, but in developing the sensitivity to adapt, the awareness to adjust, and the flexibility to recover. Just as tightrope walkers rely on constant, minute corrections, so too must we adjust our own postures in the face of uncertainty. The world won’t become less shaky or less complex, but our capacity to respond can grow.

Cultivating balance—in our emotions, our relationships, our work—requires both courage and humility. Embracing change as an opportunity for recalibration, rather than a threat to stability, may be the truest kind of balance we can find. In this way, the dance with instability is not a fight to remain unchanged, but a commitment to remain upright, no matter how the ground moves beneath us.

"Emotional energy catalyses and directs your intrinsic motivation, conviction, hope, positivity, and optimism to approach your world purposefully, meaningfully, and differently." ...

When I exited my corporate career more than thirty-five years ago, I was privileged to be regarded and respected as the Fashion Direction Manager for the Grace Bros Department Store group, one of Australia’s most senior women in retail management. This launched my global reputation as a fashion and lifestyle marketing innovator. In this exciting role, I was responsible for designing and implementing a company-wide fashion information system for apparel, accessories, homeware, merchandising, and advertising. This required me to focus my emotional energy on researching, analysing, and conceptualising global fashion and lifestyle trends and adapting them to suit the Australian consumer lifestyle.

It was a dream role before the invention of the Internet, the implosion of the mass media, and the dominance of fast fashion. It required our team to focus their emotional energy on intensively researching different global and diverse media sources, including yarn, textile, couture, designer, ready-to-wear shows, trade journals, magazines, and seasonal sales data.

Generating creative thinking

Creativity is about connecting things, and in the fashion world, the best designers make the most unlikely connections to produce novel and wondrous creations. As my professional background included graphic and fashion design and marketing, I could further hone my associative (lateral and connective) thinking skills to think creatively and critically in this role. To focus my emotional energy and attention on guiding my intuition, values, and decisions on the needs and wants of buyers, merchandisers, marketers, and customers. To emerge, diverge and converge the key connections and patterns occurring globally in the fashion world and external complex fashion systems. I also learned the importance of being customer-focused and the value and role of being empathic with customers, manufacturers’ value chains and fashion information system users.

It was an incredibly emotionally, physically, and stressful role, which required me to travel overseas four times a year to stay current on the different global fashion streams. This caused my life to melt into being at work, the gym, or the airport.

Stress-induced exhaustion and burnout

This resulted in my first profound encounter with stress-induced exhaustion and burnout, which hit me right in the face one morning when my body refused to move, and I was unable to get out of bed.

I have also noticed that many of my global coaching clients have faced a similar challenge: stress-induced exhaustion and burnout. Fortunately, they are able to use the coaching partnership to unearth their particular pattern and unresourceful ways of being, and learn how to focus their emotional energy to disrupt, dispute, and deviate from it into a more resourceful way of being and acting.

Focusing emotional energy on pursuing mattering, meaning and purposeful work

This ultimately manifests as a crisis and becomes a defining moment. In my case, I made a fundamental choice to focus emotional energy on pursuing meaning, mattering, and purposeful work, which still focuses my full attention and drives me today.

It created a “crack, “or an opening and threshold for making two fundamental choices: to embark on a healing journey to become the kind of person I wanted to be and to find a way to focus my emotional energy on making the difference I wanted to make in the world. This enabled me to use my knowledge, experience, and skills to establish Australia’s first design management consultancy.

What is emotional energy?

Emotional energy is the catalyst that fuels creativity, invention, and innovation. Understanding and harnessing this energy inspires and motivates individuals to explore and embrace creative and critical thinking strategies, now in partnership with AI.

When a person’s emotional energy has contracted, it results in constrained, negative, pessimistic, and even catastrophic thinking habits, which have a toxic impact on the person’s identity and emotional and physical well-being. This means there is no space, doorway, or threshold to take on anything new, novel, or different. Nor can they imagine what might be possible to evolve, advance, or transform their personal or professional lives in an uncertain future.

Emotional energy catalyses and directs your intrinsic motivation, conviction, hope, positivity, and optimism to approach your world purposefully, meaningfully, and differently.

When you are true to your calling or purpose, you will make extra efforts to be healthier, positively impact your well-being, and improve your resilience.

How does this apply to leadership in uncertain times?

“I think leaders need to remember that they are in the energy management business,” says Halsey. “Their role is to keep people focused, energized, and positive about themselves and their work. They may be unable to change external circumstances, but they can create a safe, nurturing, and empowering work environment. By setting clear goals, diagnosing individual needs, and providing the right leadership style, leaders can help their teams thrive—even in uncertain times.”

People want work to be less of a job and more of a calling.

According to Martin Seligman and Gabriella Rosen Kellerman in their book “Tomorrowmind”, a US-based research study that included two thousand employees of all ages, industries, tenures, and incomes, revealed that people craved more meaning at work regardless of sector or position. Everyone wanted work to be less of a job and more of a calling and gave their current jobs a rating of 49, which suggests that their “meaning cups” are only half full.

This search for meaning, mattering, and being of service to humanity in a different and value-adding way enables innovators, entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs to cultivate the emotional energy and develop the agility required to drive their creativity, invention and innovation endeavours.

It is the most critical ingredient that motivates, empowers, enables, fuels and sustains innovators, entrepreneurs, and intrapreneurs to adapt, survive and thrive on the innovation rollercoaster.

Channelling emotional energy meaningfully and purposefully

From my leadership training and coaching experience, I have learned that most people desperately want their lives to make sense and be meaningful and to know that who they are and what they do matters. It is possible to link meaning and mattering to being intentionally motivated and directed by your core values to make a difference and a contribution that provides value and significance to someone, a community, or society.

Being purposeful

Being purposeful focuses your emotional energy, guides your life decisions and influences your behaviours, shapes your goals, offers a sense of direction, and creates meaning. Rather than engaging in shallow, empty, or pointless activities, it gives you agency.

In our uncertain, volatile and disruptive world, it is crucial to think about your “purpose in life.” Be like an Entrepreneur and link your purpose, as a guidepost to help you deal with uncertainty, navigate it better, mitigate the damaging effects of long-term stress, and become psychologically resilient.

People with a strong sense of purpose direct and focus their emotional energy on what really matters to them. They tend to be more agile and adaptive, hardier and resilient, and more able to refocus and recover quickly from adverse and catastrophic events.

According to McKinsey & Co.’s article “Igniting individual purpose in times of crisis,” purposeful people also live longer and healthier lives and are essential to employee experience. This results in higher levels of employee engagement, more substantial organisational commitment, and increased feelings of well-being. Like many entrepreneurs, people who find their purpose congruent with their jobs tend to get more meaning from their roles, making them more productive and more likely to outperform their peers.

How can you add more meaning, mattering and purpose?

Meaning is an outcome of purpose, and many people, due to their experience of the pandemic and hybrid workplace in a chaotic and uncertain world, are seeking to re-engage with their work and workplaces by focusing their emotional energy on improving their well-being and creating more purposeful, balanced, and meaningful lives.

This is a short section from our new book, “Conscious Innovation – Activating the Heart, Mind and Soul of Innovation”, which will be published in 2025.

"You are not broken. You are becoming. Every breath, every insight, every act of courage moves you closer to who you already are beneath the noise." ...

The outer chaos we face is often an invitation to organize our inner world.

We’re bombarded daily—by media, metrics, meetings, and meaninglessness. And in that noise, many are quietly asking: How do I find clarity, peace, and purpose?

The answer doesn’t lie outside of us. It begins by turning inward.

Personal transformation isn’t just about self-help—it’s about self-remembrance. It’s the courageous journey of peeling back the layers of expectation and fear to rediscover who we really are—and what we’re here to do.

The Inner World Is Not Separate from the Outer

Our beliefs shape our behaviors.
Our emotions impact our choices.
Our unresolved wounds project onto others.

This is why transformation must begin within. The more aligned and aware we become, the more effectively we can engage with life—whether we’re leading a team, raising a family, or launching a vision.

Lessons From My Own Inner Work

My early spiritual experiences challenged everything I thought I knew. But they also gifted me a question I return to often:
What is the purpose of this experience, and how can I grow from it?

Over time, I’ve discovered that inner transformation isn’t linear. It requires presence, practice, and sometimes, a guide. But the tools are available—and powerful.

5 Simple Tools for Inner Transformation

Journaling with Intention – Ask yourself daily: What am I learning about myself right now?

Breath Awareness – Inhale clarity. Exhale resistance. A few conscious breaths change your state.

Pattern Recognition – Notice repeating emotional loops. They point to core beliefs ready to shift.

Stillness – Just five minutes of silence a day creates space for insight.

Compassionate Self-Talk – Speak to yourself as you would to someone you love.

A World That Needs You Awake

The world doesn’t need more performance. It needs more presence. It doesn’t need more hustle. It needs more healing.

You are not broken. You are becoming. Every breath, every insight, every act of courage moves you closer to who you already are beneath the noise.

The path is inward—and it leads to everything.

— Dr. Jeff Spencer

A while back, I had a heartfelt conversation with a thoughtful, accomplished leader—someone who had spent decades navigating high-stakes decisions, guiding teams, and growing successful companies. After a significant chapter in his professional journey came to a close, he chose something many consider, but few truly embrace: a pause. Not to immediately pursue the next opportunity or chase a title, but to create space. To reflect. To let the next step reveal itself in its own time.

There was no urgency, no rush to define what’s next—just a quiet willingness to listen, to breathe, and to allow something new to emerge. As we spoke, I recognized the rare power in what he was doing. It reminded me of a concept I’ve come to deeply respect: Receivership.

What Is Receivership?

Coined by high-performance coach Dr. Jeff Spencer, Receivership is the practice of being open to what wants to come to you, without force, urgency, or overplanning.

Receivership is where we open up our mind, heart, body, soul, and spirit to receive insights and revelations that could pop into our consciousness that we can’t give ourselves. And if we’re too busy chasing everything and looking under every rock, we’re so distracted that maybe one of these inspirations shows up, but we can’t see it because we’re too hyper-focused

— Dr. Jeff Spencer

In other words, instead of chasing clarity, you make space for it.

Dr. Spencer expands on this idea beautifully in two excellent podcast episodes I had the opportunity to listen to:

Grow Strong Leaders with Meredith Bell

Playing the Bigger Game with Mark J. Silverman

But What If You Can’t Afford to Pause?

This is often the first question that comes up. And it’s valid.

The leader I spoke with had the financial cushion to step back. Not everyone does. But here’s what we rarely talk about: many people who do have the means still don’t give themselves permission to pause.

Why?

Because the fear of missing out is real.

Because there’s a cultural obsession with relevance, momentum, and being in demand.

Because we’ve been conditioned to believe that value comes from doing, not being.

Even those who can take a break often won’t, because stepping off the treadmill means confronting all the parts of ourselves we’ve avoided in the noise.

So yes, privilege plays a role. But so does fear. And courage doesn’t come from comfort, it comes from what we do in the face of uncertainty.

If You Can’t Step Away Entirely, But Still Need a Reset

You don’t need a sabbatical to pause. Receivership isn’t about vanishing from the world, it’s about building moments of openness into your life. And that is available to all of us.

Here are a few ways to practice Receivership, no matter your situation:

1. Start Your Day in Stillness: Instead of reaching for your phone or diving into email, give yourself 5–10 quiet minutes in the morning. Let your thoughts arrive gently. Ask: What wants to come through me today? What would feel aligned, not just productive?

2. Create Space Between Stimulus and Response: Pause before you say yes. Before you plan. Before you commit. Ask yourself: Is this aligned with who I’m becoming, or just who I’ve been?

3. Do Less to Hear More: When your calendar is packed wall-to-wall, creativity has no room to breathe. Block white space. Schedule unscheduled time. And treat it as sacred.

4. Reconnect With What Brings You Joy: Joy is often one of the first things we sacrifice in the name of productivity or performance. But what if it were the compass we used instead? Ask yourself: What brings me joy that I’ve been postponing? And what would it look like to let joy guide my next step?

5. Reflect Weekly (Not Just Annually): Try a simple Sunday ritual and ask yourself,

What drained me this week?

What energized me?

What whispers am I ignoring because I’m too busy shouting?

The Bigger Game

Whether you’re a CEO, a solopreneur, a parent, or someone simply figuring it out, your path doesn’t need to be paved in overwork.

The courage to pause isn’t about stopping. It’s about listening.

Listening to the quiet voice that only emerges when we stop shouting. Listening to the wisdom that comes not from hustling, but from stillness. Listening to life as it whispers, this way.

This is Receivership. And this is how we begin to redefine success—beyond titles, beyond metrics, beyond what the world expects.

We don’t need to have it all figured out. We just need to make room to receive what’s next.

Introduction

Car accidents remain a significant public safety concern across America and the world, resulting in thousands of injuries, fatalities, and billions in economic losses every year. The aftermath of even a minor collision can have lasting effects—physical trauma, emotional hardship, financial setbacks, and legal complications. While it is true that not every accident can be prevented, the vast majority are avoidable through mindful choices and behavioral change on the road. Adopting consistent and safer driving habits dramatically reduces collisions’ likelihood and subsequent consequences. If you or a loved one has been affected by a car accident, obtaining legal support from a trusted Memphis, TN car accident law firm can help protect your rights and guide you through the recovery and claims process. As a responsible driver, understanding and practicing safe driving principles safeguards your life and supports the broader goal of creating safer communities and alleviating the burden on emergency and legal resources.

Consistent Seat Belt Use

Seat belts are a crucial safety measure that can reduce the risk of injury or death in car accidents by up to 45%. Despite their effectiveness, many drivers and passengers skip wearing them, often during quick errands or in familiar neighborhoods. Accidents are just as likely to occur close to home, and seat belts prevent occupants from being ejected and distribute crash forces across stronger parts of the body, minimizing harm. With national seat belt usage rates below 92%, there is room for improvement. Making seat belt use a non-negotiable rule every time entering a vehicle protects lives, sets a positive example, and contributes to normalizing this vital safety habit.

Avoiding Distractions

Distracted driving is a leading cause of car accidents and near-misses today. Distractions arise in many forms: replying to a text message, making or answering a phone call, fiddling with GPS or music playlists, eating, grooming, or even letting your thoughts drift. The advent of smartphones and in-car technology, while convenient, has made it all too easy to lose focus on driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), engaging in tasks such as texting while driving increases the risk of a crash by at least four times. Safe driving requires your attention to focus entirely on the task at hand. Whenever something demands your attention, the wisest choice is to pull off the road completely before addressing it. Storing devices out of reach, inputting navigation details before departure, and asking passengers for control assistance can go a long way. Remember, multitasking behind the wheel—no matter how experienced you are—always comes with significant risk. For more expert advice and alarming statistics regarding the dangers of distracted driving, visit the NHTSA Distracted Driving page for comprehensive resources and safety tools.

Practicing Defensive Driving

Defensive driving is a proactive approach to preventing crashes and maintaining road safety. It involves anticipating and reacting to other drivers’ behaviors, changing traffic patterns, and unexpected obstacles. Defensive drivers use strategies like scanning mirrors, maintaining safe following distances, and being vigilant against hazards. They are never aggressive or complacent and are prepared to yield, slow down, or take evasive action if circumstances change abruptly. Defensive driving courses, both in-person and online, teach advanced techniques like emergency braking, evasive maneuvers, and signal use. Mastering these skills empowers drivers to make informed decisions, minimizing collision risks and contributing to safer roadways.

Regular Vehicle Maintenance

Maintaining your vehicle is not just about ensuring reliability—it is a cornerstone of road safety. Minor, overlooked maintenance issues can quickly become serious hazards if neglected. Routinely check your tire pressure, tread depth, brake functionality, and the operation of headlights, taillights, and turn signals. Follow your vehicle manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule for oil changes, fluid checks, and filter replacements. Even seemingly minor problems, such as worn-out wipers or a cracked windshield, can impair visibility and reaction time. For instance, underinflated or worn-out tires compromise grip and can cause blowouts, while faulty brakes drastically increase stopping distances and the risk of losing control. Regular vehicle inspections mean these dangers are identified and resolved early. Investing in simple maintenance ultimately saves money by preventing breakdowns and, more importantly, keeps you, your passengers, and your fellow road users safe.

Obeying Speed Limits

Speed limits are carefully determined to reflect the type of roadway and the potential risks surrounding conditions pose. Disregarding posted speed limits is a leading contributor to vehicle accidents’ likelihood and severity. Speeding reduces the time you have to react to sudden changes in traffic or environments and significantly lengthens the distance required to come to a safe stop. The consequences are even more dangerous under poor weather conditions such as rain, fog, or snow—situations that call for speeds well below the posted limit. In sensitive zones, like school areas, residential streets, or construction sites, reduced speed limits protect children, pedestrians, and workers who may be less visible or harder to anticipate. Adhering to speed restrictions is by far one of the easiest and most effective ways to ensure not only your safety but the safety of those around you. Slowing down can make the difference between a close call and a life-altering event.

Avoiding Impaired Driving

Impairment in driving, caused by alcohol, drugs, medications, or fatigue, increases crash risks and can lead to slower reaction times, poor coordination, and impaired judgment. Even experienced drivers can be a danger. To avoid this, make arrangements in advance, such as designating a sober driver, using ride-share services, or relying on public transportation. Driving under the influence is illegal and can result in heavy fines, license suspension, or even incarceration. It is crucial never to underestimate your impairment level and choose not to drive if in doubt. Protecting yourself and others from impaired driving is an ethical and civic duty.

Staying Alert and Avoiding Fatigue

Drowsy driving is often undervalued as a risk factor, even though it can be just as perilous as driving under the influence. Fatigue impairs your reaction time, alertness, and ability to process information and can lead to falling asleep at the wheel. Warning signs such as frequent yawning, heavy eyelids, drifting out of your lane, or missing traffic signs and exits indicate it is time to rest. Plan your trips to include breaks every two hours or 100 miles, especially on long drives. Do not ignore your body’s signals—taking a brief rest or even a short nap can dramatically restore your alertness and calm. If you struggle to stay awake, locate a safe area to pull over. Reducing the risk of fatigue-related accidents is essential to keeping our roads safe for yourself and others.

Participating in Driver Education Programs

Driver education programs provide comprehensive knowledge, practical skills, and safety strategies for new and seasoned drivers. These programs teach defensive driving, hazard perception, and traffic law updates, particularly for teenagers. Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) programs expose novice drivers to complex situations, reducing accident rates. Parents play a crucial role in reinforcing good habits and monitoring practice drives. For seasoned drivers, periodic refresher courses refresh awareness and combat complacency. Investing in continued driver education ensures everyone is prepared for unexpected situations on busy roads. Local DMVs or driving schools offer resources for driver education resources and advanced safety training. Adopting safer driving habits is a long-term commitment that reduces car accident risks. Expert guidance can benefit those seeking daily driving behavior improvement or legal counsel after an accident.

Entered in the race was American Michael Phelps. During his illustrious Olympic career, he won 28 medals, 23 of them gold.

During the 200-meter race, Phelps was leading for most of the race. As they entered the final stretch of the race, Chad Le Clos was starting to close the gap on Phelps. However, in the closing moments of the race, Le Clos made a mistake that cost him the race. He turned to look at Phelps in the other lane, and when he did, Phelps surged ahead and won the race. Le Clos finished 7/10ths of a second behind and finished in fourth place.

While stories like these are what make history and Olympic lore, they serve as a reminder for us as leaders to understand the importance of keeping our focus.

What would keeping your eye on the goal look like for you as a leader? How would it improve your leadership skills?

Let’s explore a few ways and things we can do to improve this leadership skill.

Stay in your lane

You can be the jack of all trades or the master of none, but one key thing that is important to you as a leader is to stay in your lane.

What happens when we veer out of our lane? We take on roles and responsibilities that we previously delegated. We devalue team members by inserting ourselves into their work. We clog up the wheel of productivity by inserting ourselves in places where we don’t belong.

But worse, you ignore the more important thing that you should be doing – your work and taking care of your responsibilities. By staying in your lane, you and your team operate with efficiency. When you or team members get out of your respective lanes, you are presiding over chaos.

Keep your focus

In a split second, Chad Le Clos lost his chance at an Olympic medal simply because he lost his focus. And while it may seem innocent enough, that glance was his undoing.

In a research conducted by Insightful, they found:

Lost Focus is a big problem: 92% of employers said lost focus is a significant problem in the workplace

Deep Focus Time is Elusive: 80% of employees said they can’t go an hour without being distracted at work

Frequent Distractions: 67% of employees report checking messages or emails more than 10 times a day, with 59% experiencing interruptions every thirty minutes or less.

As a leader, you can’t prevent everyone within your organization from being distracted, but you can make it a priority to ensure that you are not contributing to the problem. Regularly encourage and remind your team of the importance of their mission and why it matters not only to them but to everyone else as well. With this thought reinforced, it can lead to greater productivity.

Be the example. Regularly encourage and remind your team of the importance of their mission and why it matters not only to them but to everyone else as well.

The importance of you being the example can’t be overstated. Good leaders model good behaviors in the workplace. If you expect your team to perform and function on high levels, they need to see it modeled by you.

John Maxwell states, “Good leaders must communicate vision creatively and continually. However, the vision doesn’t come alive until the leader models it.” This is your task as a leader: to model what it means to lead your team with clarity, focus, and intentionality.

Do you have your eye on the prize?

"This small shift turns a directive into a doorway. People step in more willingly when they feel like participants, not pawns." ...

Hey, there! AmyK here.

Most adults do not like being told what to do. It triggers resistance, shuts down creativity, and often leads to disengagement.

But one small, magical shift can change their behavior very quickly: the word “invite.”

To invite is to honor someone’s agency.

It signals respect, openness, and collaboration. And in a world where so many leaders push, demand, and dictate, the energy of invitation is magnetic.

Work Example:
Imagine you’re leading a team meeting and want fresh ideas on improving customer experience. Instead of saying, “I need you to come up with a game plan by Friday,” try:

“I invite you to bring your ideas on how we can create truly memorable moments with our customers—let’s collaborate on something really fresh & unique.”

This small shift turns a directive into a doorway. People step in more willingly when they feel like participants, not pawns.

Relationship Example:
In personal relationships, “invite” carries the same loving energy. Instead of, “You should really talk to me when you’re upset,” consider:

“I invite you to share what’s on your heart when you’re ready—I’m here to listen.” Suddenly, it’s not pressure—it’s presence. The emotional temperature cools. Safety is restored. The door to connection swings open.

When you use the word invite, you’re not only increasing engagement—you’re cultivating trust, inclusion, and connection. You’re saying, “Your input matters. You matter.” And that, in leadership and love, is pure magic.

I invite you to try it. Start one sentence today with “I invite you to …” and watch how people respond.

You may be surprised by how much more they’re willing to give—simply because you communicated that what they have to give truly matters.

Hugs n hugs,

Brand consistency and clarity are essential for building trust, yet many businesses struggle with blind spots in how their brand is perceived. These are gaps between how a company sees itself and how customers experience it. Identifying and addressing these blind spots is critical for maintaining credibility, loyalty, and market relevance.

Internal Assumptions vs. External Reality

A major cause of branding blind spots is internal bias. Business owners and leadership teams often have a strong sense of their brand identity, but this perspective may be shaped by internal values, not customer feedback. While internal culture drives branding decisions, external audiences focus on how the brand makes them feel and whether it meets their expectations.

For example, a company may describe itself as innovative, yet customers might experience outdated digital tools or slow service. This disconnect leads to confusion and can damage brand reputation over time.

Inconsistent Brand Touchpoints

Customers interact with brands through websites, emails, packaging, advertisements, and customer service. If the tone, visual identity, or messaging varies across these platforms, it erodes trust. A brand may appear professional on its website but overly casual on social media, or clear in its mission statement but vague in its customer support responses.

Inconsistency signals a lack of cohesion and may cause customers to question whether the company is reliable. Periodic audits of communication materials and customer-facing assets can help identify discrepancies and reinforce alignment.

Overlooking Customer Experience

Brand identity is not only what is said, but what is done. Poor user experience, slow responses, or difficult navigation can quickly overshadow brand messaging. These pain points are often invisible to internal teams who are too familiar with the company’s systems or workflows.

Gathering feedback directly from customers through surveys, support tickets, and usability testing provides insight into how the brand is experienced. Patterns in complaints or confusion are often early indicators of misalignment.

Competitor Comparison and Market Context

Brand perception does not happen in isolation. Customers constantly compare products, services, and experiences. A company may believe it stands out for quality or innovation, but if competitors communicate these same values more clearly or deliver them more effectively, the brand loses its edge.

Regular benchmarking against competitors helps businesses evaluate how they are positioned and whether their messaging truly differentiates them in the market.

Getting an Outside Perspective

It can be difficult to identify blind spots from within an organization. Working with third-party experts such as a healthcare branding agency (if you’re in healthcare) or a general market research firm can provide unbiased evaluations. These partners assess brand communication, customer perception, and competitive positioning to find misalignments and missed opportunities.

Clear, consistent branding builds recognition and trust. Addressing blind spots ensures that a company’s internal identity aligns with the external experience. Businesses that actively seek out customer perspective and maintain open lines of communication are better positioned to build meaningful, lasting connections. For more information, look over the infographic below.

B2B sales processes are often long, multi-layered, and influenced by numerous internal and external factors. While businesses may focus on product quality, pricing, and client relationships, unseen barriers frequently stall deals before they close. These hidden bottlenecks are difficult to detect because they operate beneath the surface of day-to-day sales operations.

Unclear Buyer Committees and Decision Paths

One of the most overlooked obstacles in B2B sales is the complexity of buyer committees. Multiple stakeholders from different departments may influence or halt a deal at any point. When sales teams do not have a clear picture of the approval process or fail to identify key decision-makers early, proposals stall.

Many sales conversations focus on a single contact who appears engaged but lacks internal authority. Without a direct line to those who control budget and strategy, the process drags. Mapping the buyer organization and validating each participant’s role shortens the decision cycle.

Fragmented Internal Communication

Sales success depends heavily on coordination across marketing, operations, finance, and customer success teams. Delays often occur when internal handoffs break down or essential information is not shared in time. For example, misalignment between sales and legal departments over contract language can extend closing timelines unnecessarily.

Implementing shared systems, clarifying roles, and establishing a clear workflow for cross-functional tasks reduces these delays. Transparency between departments ensures that everyone is working from the same set of expectations and priorities.

Overreliance on Manual Processes

Manual tracking of leads, quotes, and customer engagement activities is a frequent source of inefficiency. Without automation, critical steps are delayed, follow-ups are inconsistent, and data is often incomplete. These inefficiencies compound over time, slowing progress and reducing overall sales effectiveness.

Digital tools that integrate customer relationship management, contract generation, and follow-up scheduling allow teams to streamline repetitive tasks. Automation does not replace relationship-building but frees up time for higher-value interactions.

Misaligned Sales Content and Buyer Needs

Sales materials that do not reflect the buyer’s current challenges or industry context fail to move conversations forward. Boilerplate proposals, outdated case studies, and generic messaging make it harder for clients to see value. This disconnect often leads to indecision or shifting priorities within the buyer organization.

Periodic review of sales content ensures relevance. Gathering direct feedback from current clients and prospects helps teams adjust materials based on what resonates during buying conversations.

Competing with B2C Expectations

Business buyers increasingly expect the same speed and convenience they experience as consumers. Many are influenced by their experiences with ecommerce D2C brands, which offer rapid fulfillment, clear pricing, and user-friendly platforms. B2B companies that maintain slow, opaque processes fall behind.

Responding with faster quoting systems, transparent pricing models, and seamless onboarding creates a more competitive experience. Efficiency is not just a technical improvement. It influences how professional buyers perceive value.

Recognizing and Addressing the Bottlenecks

Identifying these invisible bottlenecks requires internal audits, honest performance reviews, and feedback from prospects who disengaged. It is not always the product or pricing that holds a sale back. Often, it is a series of small friction points that add up over time.

Improving B2B sales performance starts with removing the delays that are hiding in plain sight. By paying attention to communication gaps, approval delays, and process inefficiencies, organizations can move deals forward more predictably and build stronger relationships with business buyers. For more information, look over the accompanying resource.

Customer expectations around delivery speed continue to rise. In the competitive ecommerce landscape, even a one-day delay can affect customer satisfaction and repeat business. To keep pace, retailers are reevaluating their logistics networks, fulfillment processes, and technology investments to improve delivery times without compromising accuracy or cost-efficiency.

Decentralized Fulfillment for Faster Reach

One effective strategy is decentralizing inventory across multiple warehouses. Instead of shipping all orders from a single distribution center, ecommerce companies are placing goods closer to customers. Regional fulfillment hubs reduce transit time and shipping costs, especially for high-demand items. Using data analytics to predict regional buying patterns allows businesses to stock the right products in the right places.

This approach also increases flexibility. If one location experiences delays due to weather, traffic, or labor shortages, another facility can absorb some of the volume. This redundancy helps maintain consistent delivery performance across different markets.

Automating Warehouse Operations

Automation plays a key role in accelerating fulfillment. Technologies like automated sorting systems, pick-to-light technology, and mobile robots reduce manual handling and increase order accuracy. These tools shorten processing times and allow warehouses to handle higher volumes, especially during peak seasons.

Conveyor systems also support faster order movement. For instance, a curved belt conveyor allows items to flow efficiently through tight spaces and around corners, minimizing bottlenecks. This type of system helps optimize warehouse layout while keeping high-speed operations consistent and safe.

Smart Shipping Strategies

Partnering with multiple carriers and offering dynamic shipping options can significantly cut delivery times. Instead of relying solely on national carriers, many businesses are incorporating regional couriers who specialize in last-mile delivery within specific geographic zones. These carriers often offer faster local service at lower costs.

Some ecommerce operations also benefit from using a multi-carrier shipping platform that selects the fastest or most cost-effective carrier in real time. This reduces reliance on a single provider and improves overall reliability.

Cutoff Times and Processing Windows

Adjusting order cutoff times can make a noticeable difference in fulfillment speed. Clearly communicating order deadlines for same-day or next-day processing helps manage customer expectations. Internally, optimizing labor schedules and aligning them with order volume peaks ensures that staff are available when demand is highest.

Using batch processing for similar orders or geographic groupings can further streamline picking and packing. It also allows for more efficient route planning when coupled with real-time transportation management systems.

Returns and Reverse Logistics Considerations

Speeding up deliveries should not come at the expense of returns processing. A streamlined reverse logistics system allows returned items to reenter inventory quickly, improving availability and reducing waste. Integrating return tracking into customer accounts also improves transparency and satisfaction.

Ecommerce businesses that prioritize both outbound and inbound logistics processes are better positioned to deliver a consistent customer experience.

Improving ecommerce delivery speed requires a coordinated effort across supply chain functions. From warehouse automation to regional fulfillment and smarter shipping partnerships, each decision can reduce lead times while maintaining order accuracy. As consumer expectations evolve, the ability to deliver faster without increasing operational risk will remain a key differentiator for growing ecommerce brands. To learn more, look over the infographic below.

The supply chain is a system of interconnected operations that rely on timing, efficiency, and coordination. When one link in the logistics chain falters, the ripple effects are felt across multiple sectors. From raw material sourcing to last-mile delivery, even small disruptions can lead to significant consequences in cost, timelines, and customer satisfaction.

How a Single Delay Impacts the Whole System

Logistics networks depend on precise schedules. A delay in port unloading, for example, can stall warehouse processing and leave retailers with empty shelves. Each phase depends on the timely completion of the previous one. When goods arrive late, trucks may sit idle, labor schedules are disrupted, and production lines can come to a halt.

Delays also compound across supply chain layers. A shortage of one component can delay the assembly of a finished product, causing downstream disruptions for distributors and customers. These effects are often difficult to isolate and even harder to correct quickly, especially in industries with tight production margins.

The Role of Communication in Preventing Escalation

Proactive communication across logistics partners can help prevent small delays from escalating into larger failures. Sharing data on shipment status, transit times, and inventory levels gives all parties an opportunity to adjust. Real-time updates allow companies to reroute freight, reschedule labor, or source temporary alternatives.

Companies that lack integrated communication tools often face longer recovery times from disruptions. Transparency between suppliers, carriers, and buyers helps ensure that setbacks are managed efficiently rather than spreading further down the supply chain.

Technology as a Stabilizing Force

Digital platforms that offer real-time visibility and automation are becoming essential to maintaining continuity. Fleet tracking systems, predictive analytics, and warehouse management software provide critical data for adjusting operations quickly. These tools help mitigate the impact of unpredictable events like weather, labor shortages, or traffic congestion.

Platforms that help carriers find loads efficiently are also important in reducing idle time and improving asset utilization. Better coordination between supply and demand ensures that capacity is used effectively, minimizing costs and delays.

Building a More Resilient Supply Chain

Redundancy, flexibility, and planning are key to avoiding severe disruptions. Diversifying suppliers and transport routes, maintaining buffer inventory, and investing in cross-trained labor help businesses withstand temporary failures. While no supply chain can be completely disruption-proof, thoughtful preparation and responsive systems make it possible to contain problems before they expand.

Understanding the chain reaction within logistics is essential for operational resilience. Each link influences the next, and success depends on the ability to anticipate, respond, and recover quickly from disruption. To learn more, look over the accompanying resource below.

Artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept. It is a growing force in today’s economy, with industries allocating substantial resources to AI-driven technologies that increase efficiency, reduce risk, and support data-informed decision-making. From manufacturing to healthcare, companies are committing to AI in ways that are reshaping operations and strategy.

Manufacturing and Predictive Maintenance

Manufacturing has been an early adopter of AI, particularly in predictive maintenance and process optimization. Machine learning models can analyze data from sensors embedded in equipment to forecast failures before they happen. This minimizes unplanned downtime, reduces maintenance costs, and extends the lifespan of critical assets. AI also supports quality control by identifying product defects through computer vision and pattern recognition.

Healthcare and Clinical Applications

Healthcare organizations are investing heavily in AI for diagnostics, patient care, and operational efficiency. AI algorithms are being used to detect anomalies in medical imaging, recommend treatment paths based on historical data, and improve patient triage systems. Hospitals and clinics are also using AI to manage staffing and patient flow, reducing wait times and resource bottlenecks. These applications help reduce human error and improve consistency in care delivery.

Finance and Risk Management

Financial institutions have adopted AI to manage risk, detect fraud, and personalize customer interactions. Algorithms can analyze transaction patterns in real time, flag suspicious activity, and adapt quickly to evolving threats. In addition, AI-driven systems support algorithmic trading, credit scoring, and portfolio optimization. Many firms are integrating AI into customer service platforms to automate routine inquiries and provide 24/7 support.

Retail and Consumer Insights

Retailers are using AI to better understand customer behavior and improve inventory management. Through the analysis of online and in-store shopping data, AI helps businesses anticipate demand, reduce waste, and refine marketing strategies. Personalization engines recommend products based on previous purchases, which increases customer satisfaction and drives revenue.

Energy Sector and Efficiency Gains

Energy companies are applying AI to improve efficiency in production and distribution. Smart grid technologies use AI to balance supply and demand, while oil and gas firms employ machine learning for seismic data interpretation and drilling optimization. Renewable energy operations benefit from AI in forecasting weather patterns and predicting energy output, which supports grid stability.

The Rise of Generative AI in Business Functions

Generative AI is attracting interest across sectors for its ability to create content, code, and design prototypes with minimal human input. Companies are testing it in areas such as software development, product design, marketing, and legal document drafting. Although still developing, generative models are seen as tools to boost productivity and support creative problem-solving.

AI investment continues to grow as organizations seek to automate tasks, gain insights from large datasets, and respond more quickly to change. The industries committing the most capital to AI are those positioned to gain operational efficiencies, reduce risks, and improve their responsiveness in highly competitive markets. For more information, look over the infographic below.

"Real connection happens when people collide—not through screens, but through the messy, unpredictable, transformative experience of being in the same room, breathing the same air, sharing the same moment." ...

In our rush to connect digitally, we’ve forgotten the irreplaceable power of proximity. Real connection happens when people collide—not through screens, but through the messy, unpredictable, transformative experience of being in the same room, breathing the same air, sharing the same moment.

~Steven Johnson

The Connection Gap

We’ve become profoundly isolated, particularly in our post-pandemic world. While video calls and digital platforms have kept us connected, they’ve also highlighted what we’re missing—the subtle communication of body language, the warmth of physical presence, the spontaneous moments that happen when people share actual space. Technology connects us, but proximity transforms us. The handshakes, the hugs, the shared meals, the unplanned conversations—these seemingly small moments create lasting impact that continues to influence our work and relationships months later.

Reimagining Connection

How do we create meaningful gathering experiences that honor the power of human connection while avoiding the pitfalls of traditional event formats? The answer led us to completely reimagine what bringing people together could look like. Instead of following conventional conference models—with their emphasis on scale, profit, and performance—we decided to design something entirely different. An experience that prioritizes depth over breadth, connection over content, and transformation over transaction. An experience that focuses on people vs. profit.

A New Kind of Gathering

What we’ve created isn’t a conference, seminar, or networking event. It’s something more essential—a curated encounter designed to foster authentic human connection. Here’s what makes it different: Intentionally Intimate: We’re limiting attendance to just fifty participants, ensuring everyone has meaningful opportunities to connect with others rather than getting lost in a crowd. Conversation-Centered: Instead of presentations and podiums, we’re designing experiences around genuine dialogue and shared exploration of ideas. Purpose-Driven: This isn’t about generating profit—it’s about creating value. Our break-even approach ensures every dollar goes toward maximizing the participant experience. And any profit will be donated to a 4-star rate nonprofit. Authentically Different: No PowerPoint marathons, no forced team-building exercises, no corporate networking schemes. Just real people having real conversations about things that matter.

Location. Location. Location

We’ve chosen Tampa Bay in February as our setting—a time and place that offers the perfect backdrop for meaningful connection. The warm weather, vibrant community, and relaxed atmosphere create an environment where authentic interactions can flourish naturally. This timing also allows participants to extend their visit, potentially turning the gathering into a broader experience with family or friends.

Designed For Good

Fifty seats. That’s all. This isn’t about exclusivity for its own sake—it’s about creating the conditions where genuine connection can happen. In a world where bigger is often assumed to be better, we’re betting that smaller is more powerful. When you can remember everyone’s name, when conversations can happen organically, when the group is small enough to feel like a community rather than an audience—that’s when the magic happens. That’s when people stop performing and start connecting.

Our Invitation

We’re not just inviting you to attend an event—we’re inviting you to be part of an experiment in the power of genuine human connection. To discover what becomes possible when we prioritize presence over presentation, when we choose depth over scale, when we remember that our greatest strength lies not in our individual capabilities but in our collective humanity.

If you’re ready to experience what gathering can be when it’s designed around human connection rather than corporate convention, we hope you’ll join us. But don’t wait!
Only a handful of our 50 seats are left, and once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Hey there! AmyK here.

Let’s bust a myth:

Your Ego is not the enemy.

It’s just an outdated manager—well-meaning, but still convinced fax machines are essential.

While it occasionally offers insight and can be awesome when it comes to setting boundaries or resiliently advocating for yourself, it mostly runs on old survival scripts from your earliest years.

Your Ego was designed to protect you—

make sense of chaos, decode pain, make sense of social dynamics, and keep you safe. It helped you belong, achieve, hide, or hustle—whatever got you through.

But if it’s still steering the ship now [assuming you’re over 30], it can quietly turn your life into a prison.

Here’s what that prison might look like today:

Proving your worth

Perfecting your image

Comparing your success

People-pleasing to avoid conflict

Controlling to feel safe or controlling to escape feeling powerless.

Sound familiar?

But let’s be clear: your Ego isn’t the problem.

The problem is letting your Ego do all the driving while your Heart rides in the trunk.

Let me be even more clear, demonizing your Ego only deepens the divide within. You end up rejecting the part of you that actually needs your compassion the most.

That’s where the Shadow comes in.

While the Ego manages your image, your identity, the Shadow hides what threatens it. The Shadow is your personal Hurt Locker—filled with shame, rage, jealousy, and fear.

Not evil. Just buried. And what we bury doesn’t vanish—it leaks. In sarcasm. Shutdowns. Perfectionism. Self-sabotage. And this is the short list.

When the Ego and Shadow team up, your life can become a loop of emotional reactivity, defensiveness, perfectionism, and exhaustion.

You’re successful … but stuck.
Why?

Because you’re building a life from your wounds, not your wisdom.

So what’s the alternative?

Integration.

You can’t kill your Ego or silence your Shadow.

That’s proven to be wasted energy & effort.

With high performing nonprofit boards, its members will rarely be invited by the CEO to participate in operational decisions. As a result, management will always have more information than the board. Yet the board still needs to know what is happening in operations to be able to overview them.

The name of the game is for the CEO to communicate the important information and to keep directors informed of significant developments. Still, there’s no need to clutter regular board meetings by reporting endless details about operations.

Following are some practical suggestions:

An executive director, in response to a blog post I presented, provided a most creative approach. He and the board chair have a weekly conference call, usually on Thursday. Other board members are invited to join the call if they have time. A few days later, the ED sends a brief e-mail to all board members highlighting the important events that took place during the week. (He joked that his high school English teacher would never approve of its format, but the board is always full informed.)

Probably the more traditional way of keeping board members aware of what is happening within the organization is to have staff frequently make short presentations. I have seen this approach used in dozens or nonprofit board meetings without success. Two problems frequently occur. First the staff person is so enthusiastic about an opportunity board that the presentation continues well beyond the allotted time, and, second, board members raise “micromanagement” level questions, that further extend the presentation session. To solve these problems, the board chair needs to suggest to those seeking more than appropriate detail that the questions can be answered “offline.” In addition, the chief executive should meet with the staff person well ahead of the meeting to make sure that the material to be presented is succinct, and the staff person is well aware of the time constraint. A “dress rehearsal” might even be appropriate for some staff personnel.

Another technique is to use a consent agenda. With a consent agenda, routine and previously agreed upon items are organized together in the pre-meeting agenda and then, hopefully, approved as a group. If one or more board members question an item in the group, it is placed on the agenda for the next board meeting. This process eliminates the time consuming effort of having a separate discussion for each item.

A third controversial way is for the chief executive to meet with board members informally about every quarter. (It is controversial because many nonprofit CEOs feel this is too time consuming.) Occasionally, these meetings are with two directors at one time. At the sessions, the chief executive can discuss the more “entrepreneurial or wild ideas” that might need testing and update board members on operational decisions in greater detail. Some of the meetings can happen quite informally, before or after a committee meeting or after a monthly board meeting. Others can occur at appropriate social events. This is a controversial suggestion, as some CEO’s report they don’t have sufficient time for such a rigorous meeting schedule. My observations of dozens of CEOs indicates that the very best manage to develop the schedule.

It is important to have the executive’s assistant keep track of the meetings and then to have authority to make new appointments to meet the quarterly schedule. Obviously, the CEO would need to meet with the board chair more often. If the board is a national one, meeting less frequently or a scheduled phone call are appropriate. One veteran CEO I know meets frequently with two board members. One is a long serving member, and the other is a newly appointed board member.

Keeping important information flowing to the board is critical to having a high performing nonprofit. It is a significant CEO responsibility

My longtime friend, Jim Carlough, shared an article on LinkedIn recently. The article is from Psychology Today. It’s called, “Why You Shouldn’t Outsource Your Intuition to AI”. And it says this, in part:

AI is brilliant. It can analyze vast amounts of data, generate poetry, build business plans, or summarize psychological studies in seconds. I use it daily and I think it’s one of the most powerful tools of our time. But AI doesn’t have a heart. It doesn’t feel the weight of a decision in the gut. It doesn’t carry ancestral trauma or spiritual resonance. It doesn’t know what lights up your soul or what haunts your dreams. That’s your job. We’ve confused intelligence with wisdom. But wisdom requires more than pattern recognition. It requires context, embodiment, and alignment.

Right. And from a psychological perspective, all of that is certainly true. But there’s more than psychology at stake here.

Shortly after I read the article Jim shared, I saw this post from a young man on LinkedIn:

Does anyone have a theory as to how Grammarly got so bad? Like it started out of the gate shockingly good…industry standard for a solid amount of time…and now it just makes some absolutely absurd suggestions and it’s eroded my trust in it beyond use.

Grammarly was always bad. The very idea of it is bad because what’s at stake here beyond psychology is each of us as individual, sentient beings. And each of has an individual tone, style, voice, and what Henry Miller called the miracle of personality. Try to imagine AI writing this:

If now and then we encounter pages that explode, pages that wound and sear, that wring groans and tears and curses, know that they come from a man with his back up, a man whose only defenses left are his words and his words are always stronger than the lying, crushing weight of the world, stronger than all the racks and wheels which the cowardly invent to crush out the miracle of personality. (Henry Miller)

I did try to imagine it. I couldn’t do it. So, I installed Grammarly on my computer, only for the time it took to let it edit water down, drain, dull, neuter, and flatten what Henry Miller wrote. This is what it spit out:

Sometimes we read things we don’t like. When that happens, we might gripe about it or something. And we might recognize something is bugging the man who wrote it. Maybe he had a bad day at work or stubbed his toe. Or maybe he lost an argument with his wife, or his mother-in-law, or both. Who knows? All we know is he’s miffed. He probably feels weak and invisible. And he has to get it off his chest.

As soon as Grammarly spit that out, I uninstalled it. I ran CleanMyMac five times. I searched my hard drive to make sure it was gone. I hung a clove of garlic and a silver cross around my neck. I ate a big plate of fish because it’s reputed to be brain food. Then I took a shower and prayed for forgiveness.

This quote from Woody Allen’s Stardust Memories has always described the function of Grammarly perfectly, and it extends to AI in general:

Running the boiled chicken through the deflavorizing machine.

Grammarly and other AI-powered applications aren’t and never will never be capable of tone, style, voice, and personality. They’re only capable of aggregation, curation, regurgitation, and homogenization. That’s why the alleged intelligence in them is called artificial.

AI may process data, but it can’t interpret it. It may identify patterns and execute rote tasks, but it can’t think. It may analyze structured problems, but it can’t create. It can’t experience emotion, navigate ambiguity, or make subjective, value-driven decisions. It may appear to possess intelligence, but it lacks consciousness, intuition, and the ability to understand. It simulates reasoning, but it doesn’t reason. It doesn’t adapt unless it’s reprogrammed. And The Manchurian Candidate has already been made … twice.

That’s the truth. Everything else is just an AI-generated attempt to psych us out.

I read two posts last week that provoked me to share this post.

The first post, entitled “How Love Transcends The Boundaries Of Time?” in which author Dennis Pitocco discussed an interesting blend of two opposites: joy and trepidation.

This is an important pair of opposites. Examples of such blends are many, and I share a few of them, which I witnessed:

“There is no joy like the joy of returning to our homeland,” said the Syrian immigrants returning to Syria. However, joy was mixed for some of the interviewed ones with the trepidation of the fight not ending completely.

The trepidation of fear of not finding a job in the tight job market blended with the joy of graduation with honors.

The trepidation of a new immigrant to a host country. The joy of a promising future mixed with fear of the unknown.

Then I read a post by Alan Culler titled “On-Boarding New Consultants,” in which he discusses another interesting pair of opposites. These are focus and diversification.

I commented on this post, “Of the challenges that you discussed, consultants face today, the one that caught my attention is ‘Loose-tight might be the way to go — If too much focus is placed upon the “one-true-way we do things around here” the firm may lose the innovation and hybrid vigor of hiring. If too little focus is placed on the firm’s strengths, then consultants don’t effectively “join” and realize they might be better as independents “keeping the multiplier.”

What Alan wrote applies to all of us. We need to master this balance between focusing and diversifying.

This pair of opposites is vital for us today. We live in an uncertain and ever-changing world, and so dealing with risk is of utmost importance.

Examples include:

Balancing focus and diversification is crucial for both business and investment strategies. Focus allows for deep specialization and expertise, while diversification reduces risk by spreading investments across different areas. The ideal approach often involves establishing a strong core and then strategically diversifying, guided by customer insights and market analysis.

The advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has jeopardized many jobs or even cancelled them out. To focus yourself on working in a certain field might be risky, but also spreading yourself too thin may not be the way to grasp new skills. We need to strike a balance between focusing on our expertise and diversifying it.

We need to be alert to the emerging risks and keep adjusting our balance in an imbalanced world. The challenge is great.

A special visit with Kimberly Davis to P & G Wells – Winchester, Britain’s oldest surviving bookshop. A bookshop has been located at College Street, Winchester, since 1789, with its roots in the business dating back to 1729.

Jane Austin wrote to her sister Cassandra in 1798 about books she had from the owner at the time, John Burdon, ‘gentleman bookseller’.

Other famous literary customers include Victorian novelist Charlotte Yonge and romantic poet John Keats. Keats’ favourite riverside walk was the River Itchen, a few minutes walk from P & G Wells.

The house where Jane Austin passed away in 1817 is two doors away.

Further up College Street is Winchester College, founded in 1382 by William of Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester, whose tomb is in Winchester Cathedral. Incidentally, Jane Austin’s tomb is also in the Cathedral. Winchester College is the oldest continuously running school in history. It served as a boarding school for boys for 600 years and became co-educational in 2022.

“Quite some history!” ~quoting Kimberly Davis from the USA.

During a visit to Winchester, Kimberly Davis joined me in a wonderful tour of the city and its 1000-year-old Cathedral.

Walking along College Street, we visited PG Wells. On entering, there is a very special feeling of ancient calmness. The staff are not only friendly and helpful, but incredibly knowledgeable.

I purchased Kimberly’s first book, Brave Leadership, at P & G Wells and will order her second book, also focused on Brave Leadership. The staff located both books rather easily via their system.

Of note, I purchased Michael Sandler’s ‘Automatic Writing Experience’ from PGWells.

Kimberly really adored this bookshop.

I was delighted to introduce her to this most iconic, traditional bookshop.

The moment we consciously recall our personal relationship and unity with the Original Self [God], It awaits us with open arms.

~ Dennis Merritt Jones— Your ReDefining Moments

There often comes a moment along the spiritual path when we realize we’ve drifted—not in body, but in spirit—from that quiet sanctuary within where peace, Presence, equanimity, and purpose reside. Sometimes the drift is gradual, so subtle we hardly notice. Other times, it arrives with force, born of overwhelm, pain, fear, disconnection, or sorrow. Irrespective of how it comes, the invitation is always the same: to remember our way home.

Recently, a mentoring client confided the weight of his struggles. I listened with an open heart and then inquired if he was maintaining his spiritual practices. With a sigh, he looked away, murmuring, to be honest, I don’t feel as close to God as I once did. Then I gently smiled and asked, well then, who moved? I reminded him that the Presence he longed for had never left. It patiently waited for his return with open arms. There was no judgement, no anger—only unconditional love. With that, he drew a deep breath and smiled.

This is the heart of the parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11–32), offering a powerful metaphor of a spiritual journey to the Far Country. If you are not familiar with it, give it a read. It’s not a story of sin or punishment, but of forgetting, wandering, remembering and returning to oneness. It’s a metaphor of forgiveness, grace, humility, and the soul’s deep yearning to come home. It’s not just his story—it’s all of ours. We are each the Prodigal Son or Daughter on the eternal road back home.

As the prodigal returns to his father’s house, so must we return…we shall be met with a smile from the Universe.

— Ernest Holmes, The Science of Mind

From time to time, we all metaphorically go unconscious and wander into our own version of the “Far Country.” It’s not a place, but a state of consciousness—a realm where we forget who we are and whence we’ve come. It’s then that the illusion of separation and duality ensnare us. That’s when the noise of the external world can be very distracting—not to mention, seductive. That noise lies and declares that fulfillment awaits us in the external world—in the form of achievements, titles, possessions, jobs, and people. And yet, in stillness, we feel the ache of something deeper—a home we’ve momentarily forgotten.

But the grace of our story is this: we are never lost or alone. The Divine, the Infinite Presence, is everywhere. There is no place we can go where It is not. All that is required is a shift in awareness—a mindful return home through prayer, through silence, through gratitude and meditation—and we discover we were never alone.

THE TAKEAWAY: The spiritual path of the Prodigal is not a straight line, but a rhythm of forgetting, wandering, remembering, and returning. Each return is met not with judgment, but with Infinite joy. As Ernest Holmes wrote, we are always welcomed with a smile from the Universe. So, today if you find yourself wandering in the Far Country, know you are not alone—be gentle. Pause. Breathe. Turn inward. Remember that home is not a destination, but a state of awareness—of oneness with the Divine, available at this very moment. The Beloved is right where we are, arms open, heart full. All we must do is pause, breathe, remember—and then, like the Prodigal, return home.

Peace, Dennis
