I know that doctors have probably been asked every kind of question under the sun, but I still feel more comfortable consulting one of my magazines than asking an expert while red in the face. Also, if you save the magazines over the years, you can always use them as a reference when you need them. For instance, you may not have a question about which kinds of discharge are normal now, but maybe a few months down the road you will. At that point, you'll be happy you saved the magazines.

For Women Health Supplements Can Help Treat Specific Conditions

Women, who lead busy, stressful and demanding lives, putting other’s needs first and their own last, should consider taking women health supplements to prevent nutritional deficiencies in their bodies. When considering which of the many supplements for women on the market are best for you, you need to know what nutrients to look for.All good women health supplements will contain vitamins A, B, C, D, and E. These are essential ingredients. Vitamin C is particularly important for women because it helps to keep both the heart and the immune system healthy. It also lowers blood pressure and raises good cholesterol (HDL) which reduces the risk of heart disease. Vitamin E, also lowers the risk of heart disease and also reduces the risk of stroke. Antioxidants such as Vitamins E, C and A may also lower the risk of cancer and muscle degeneration.

Continue>>

Womens Health Specialists - Where to Go for the Best Womens Health Specialists

Where do you go when you need womens health specialists? Do you rely on womens health magazines, or do you just ask your friends whenever you have a question that you don't know the answer to? Many women avoid either and prefer to use the internet instead as their sole source of information that deals with their health. There are a lot of great sites out there that you can search through to find more information on whatever health problem you may be experiencing. Even better, some sites allow you to search through symptoms, essentially helping you to diagnose yourself. You should still see a doctor, but it can put your mind at ease to know you're probably only dealing with a cold, rather than the life threatening illness you thought you had.

Continue>>

Women Health Supplements - Discover the Truth About Nutrition For Girls

Are women health supplements really necessary? It depends on how old you are and if you're suffering from menopausal symptoms or have PMS.If you do not have menopausal symptoms, PMS or anything like that, then you can use a normal unisex supplement. On the other hand, if you're over 30, you might want to look into women health supplements that contain special ingredients just for women. Some of the best ingredients are female hormone balancing herbs which can help improve sexual drive, reduce PMS and menopausal symptoms and a host of other problems women often run into. You should also be aware of the fact that you should do your own research and educate yourself on what different women health supplements are available out there. Most supplements for women will look a lot like the men's or unisex products, the only things that usually differ are the female hormone balancing herbs.

Continue>>

A New Women's Movement

Recently I’ve come to realize a need for a new kind of women’s movement - one that doesn’t have us in denial about who we are but accepts it with pride and appreciation. Common topics among today’s professional women are being treated equally in the work place, climbing the corporate ladder to obtain those male dominated positions and of course, equal pay.

Several weeks ago I received an emailed copy of an article from the Good Housekeeping May 13, 1955 edition titled “The Good Wife’s Guide.” Certain statements were underlined to focus our attention and perhaps incite protest.

“Catering for his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.” “Remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours.” “A good wife always knows her place.”

Now, without a proper understanding, and might I add attitude, one could definitely get upset at such statements. But think about it, when we consider what love and marriage is all about, doesn’t that mean putting the other person first? Isn’t that all those statements amount to? I’m not sure what the original intent was, but bottom line when we look at them objectively, they’re right on. If someone wrote an article today on how to be a good husband and similar statements were made for him, it would receive accolades. Hold on, ladies, it works both ways. We have to be loving and considerate too.

There was also a part in the Good Housekeeping article on making the house and children look nice and neat before the husband comes home in the evening. I found that to be humorous and expect a lot of women who read the article in 1955 did as well. Some times we take things too seriously. Moving on, a lot of supposedly intelligent people spend lots of somebody’s money researching the gender gap and trying to figure out the solution to achieving complete and total equality across the board. That’s one of the stupidest wastes of time and money I can think of. There will always be differences between the sexes. We look differently. We have different chemical make-ups. And for the most part, we have different desires and inclinations. A recent study even showed that while men and women use the internet about the same amount of time, they use it for different things. The funny part is the research was presented as a negative thing. What difference does it make if men use the internet for sports, news and music downloads while women use it for email, and religious and health info?

Continue read here>>

Why Smart Successful Women Struggle With Food, Weight, and Emotional Eating

As we all know, Oprah Winfrey isn't the only smart successful woman who struggles with food, weight, and emotional eating. I work with many clients who have accomplished tremendous things but who see food as the one place in their lives where they can't seem to take control. Frustration, self-blame and self-consciousness can make the problem even worse and lead to more stress or comfort eating, another binge, or a sense of hopelessness and despair.

What's a smart savvy woman to do?

Here are some areas to pay attention to if you'd like to get back in the driver's seat with food and weight.

1. Are you paying yourself first?

Where do you fall on your priority list? Many of the successful, hard-working women I know and work with juggle multiple projects and priorities. Sometimes they make the mistake of believing it would be easier just to put themselves to the side--have one less thing to juggle. Do you even show up on your priority list or have you fallen into a pattern of attending to your own needs last--if there's time? If the latter sounds like your pattern, then you probably know that the to-do list can be never-ending and if you come last, it's too tempting to resort to food as an easy, "quick fix" for comfort, stress-relief, or even a reward for that day of hard work.

Learning to prioritize and budget for your own needs, wants and dreams (and learning to identify them in the first place) is more important for ending battles with emotional eating than any nutritional advice.

2. Are you holding yourself to impossible standards?

Do you have an inner perfectionist, dooming you to failure before you even start? High-achieving women can be incredibly hard on themselves. The truth is, nothing will derail an emotional eater faster than unrealistic, impossible expectations. Learn to do your best--and to keep doing your best even when it doesn't work out. That will pay off far bigger than shooting for perfect.

3. Are you a hard worker?

Hard working women often fall into the trap of believing that the way to resolve their problems with food is to "get tough with themselves and just work harder." The problem is, pushing yourself harder, in a direction that wasn't working in the first place, just creates a more painful struggle.

Many times, the way out of food and weight battles is to stop pushing, fighting, and "working hard" long enough to examine the situation, listen to yourself, and start to take stock of what you REALLY need. Compassion and curiosity will help you identify your triggers for turning to food and overeating in a way that "getting hard on yourself" NEVER will. Remember. If things didn't work out, odds are the plan failed you. You didn't fail your plan.

4. Are you too focused on "flying solo?"

Have you convinced yourself that emotional eating is a problem that you "should" have solved on your own by now? Do you struggle in silence and isolation? Although smart women know the value of seeking help and connecting with expertise, a common emotional eating trap is the belief that struggles with food and weight are easy for everyone else and that it is a sign of personal failure to be struggling. I cannot adequately describe the power and effectiveness that come from applying the appropriate support, mentoring and guidance to this problem area.

The truth is that emotional eating is an issue that many successful, savvy women struggle with and the nature of a busy woman's life can make emotional eating even more of a temptation. Making peace with food and finding solutions that work for you are absolutely possible--but making those changes and making them last requires a thoughtful, and yes, a smart approach.

Continue read here>>

Why Women Struggle With Orgasm

I was asked recently to contribute to an article in Men's Health on Why Women Don't or Can't Have Orgasms. Excerpts of this appeared in last month's edition. Here is a more in-depth look at this complex topic that impacts on the pleasure and relationships of many women.

The reasons for this to happen are many and cover a spectrum. First off is purely physical, their partner's don't know what they're doing, how to touch them. Often women don't know enough about their own bodies so they can't guide their partner's.

Linked to this, but its own issue, is lack of communication. This takes the form of women not being able to ask for how she'd like to be touched, the very specific stimulation she needs, and her partner not asking her.

The next reason is belief. The sexual beliefs we hold have enormous impact on our behavior. These beliefs are communicated through family, religious and social teachings. So much of what we do comes out of what we hear and see our parents, family, teachers and peers say and do. I've come to see that so much of what we learn about sex and intimacy is from what's never said, rather then what is. If you think about the amount of sexual misrepresentation and myth we grow up with, what's ignored or never said has great power. So if you get the idea that sex is not pleasurable, or not for pleasure, or even purely for your husband's pleasure, it will have great impact on your ability to have orgasm.

One of the most powerful preventive beliefs is that good girls don't do that, don't enjoy sex. Connected to this is body image, general and specific. The general refers to feeling good about your body, not being obsessed. There is a belief that many women hold that only 'good looking/beautiful' people have good sex. The specific refers to genitals. If you're brought up to believe that you're genitals are dirty it becomes harder to allow yourself the pleasure of orgasm.
Then there's the willingness to let go. In order to experience orgasm you need to let go, to relax, and sometimes to allow the wild side to come out. One of the most important factors here is safety. If a woman does not feel safe she will not allow herself to let go enough to have an orgasm. This safety is an emotional state, an internal state that is often created by her partner. Intimacy, feeling loved, not judged in any way are all aspects of this. Women who have had bad sexual experiences, been raped or abused in some way will often struggle to have orgasm after that event. This makes it important to say here that anorgasmia can be caused by a traumatic event, physical, sexual or emotional.

The concept of reciprocation in sex also has impact. If a woman feels that she has to do something for her partner just because he pleasured her becomes a pressure situation, and she'd rather not go there in the first place.

Certain medications, particularly anti-depressants and anti-anxiety tablets can also be a major cause of this.

The impact on a relationship is huge and can be devastating. So much of our self -identity and self-confidence is linked to our sexual success, particularly with men. A wise man once said, 'when sex works it's about 20% of a relationship, when it doesn't, it's 90%'.
We often judge sex as being successful by the result, more often than not this about orgasm. There is enormous pressure on both men and women to make sex successful by reaching this goal. As a man if I can't make it happen for her, than I'm not a good lover. As a woman if I can't have an orgasm something's wrong with me. So we try harder, create more pressure and deepen the problem. Our egos become bruised, we feel incapable, and begin to withdraw. We begin to avoid not only sex, but also touch and intimacy that may lead to sex.

Is it possible to change this? In the vast majority of cases, yes. A resounding yes!
The most successful way of changing this is taking all the pressure off by getting out of goal-oriented mind set. Take achieving, reaching, having an orgasm right out the equation. As long as it remains a goal to achieve, every time you don't... and the pressure mounts, the frustration and anger increase. The principles of Expanded Orgasm are perfect for this, enjoy being in the moment, enjoy the sensations, the intimacy and touch, let your body relax, breath deeply and simply be there. After a while of this, your body will respond differently and allow the orgasm to happen. It's not quite that simple and requires more, looking at and changing the beliefs, healing and releasing sexual hurts, freeing the pelvis and blockages that are there, learning different sexual techniques, genital massage etc. And learning to COMMUNICATE!

Continue read here>>

Pakistani Women Struggle to Find Their Individualities

Irene Watson, is pleased to have as our guest, Shaila Abdullah, author of Beyond the Cayenne Wall.

Hi Shaila, thank you for taking the time to participate in this interview.

Irene: Shaila, why do you feel that Beyond the Cayenne Wall was in important book for you to write? What objectives do you have for the book?

Shaila: There is a great dearth of writers who have managed to lift the veil to reveal the richness or even the oppression within Pakistan. There are issues that to this day are not talked about openly, such as rape, abuse, violence at home, incest, etc. And to this day it's considered a stigma in that culture to be in a situation like miscarriage, infertility, divorce, and separation. For most of the women, life does not exist outside the four walls of their home and I feel that it is important to tell the stories of women who venture beyond those walls and find themselves. The book is a message for women of that land to rise and discover their true selves, the unique person that's them.

Pakistani women face a rough battle. On one hand where society provides them the richness of tradition and family values, there is little or no freedom for them. The unjust Hudood Ordinance has subjected women who report a rape to be jailed for lack of evidence. 60% of women in Pakistani jails are today are in there because of this law. According to the Independent Rights Commission, over 600 women were killed in the early part of 2003 in Pakistan. It's a country where historically women have little rights and I do believe that global awareness of the violations of women's rights can bring about changes for future generations there.

Irene: What challenges did you have while writing this book and how did you overcome them?

Shaila: Beyond the Cayenne Wall started as a healing through writing process after a life altering event. In the beginning, I never thought that these stories that I was writing would one day take the shape of a book. I am essentially an introvert and get easily caught up in my characters. For a long time I struggled with the first story about Tannu, the woman who is forced to give up her firstborn to the caretakers of a shrine as the tradition dictated. It was a price she was expected to pay because she was forced by her mother-in-law to go to the shrine of fertility and pray for a child. I was haunted by the character that I had created and to this day I wonder if I should write an entire book on the rest of her life. She is an epitome of strength, a rare combination of resilience and rebellion in one who in the final act of defiance, tears herself away from the ties that bound her to the choices she did not want to make in her life.

Continue read here>>

Female Weight Gain Stories - Six Reasons Why Women Struggle With Weight Loss

There are many reasons why people gain weight. Female weight gain stories often include the inability to handle stresses and emotions. Here are six reasons why women struggle with weight loss:

1) Habits. Eating too many calories may become a habit. You may also develop a habit of doing sedentary activities like watching TV instead of being physically active. Over time, these habits can lead to weight gain.

2) Genes. Overweight and obesity tend to run in families. Although families often share diet and physical activity habits that can play a role in obesity, their shared genes increase the chance that family members will be overweight.

3) Illness. Some diseases may lead to weight gain or obesity. These include hypothyroidism, Cushing's syndrome, and depression. Talk to your health care provider if you think you have a health problem that could be causing you to gain weight.

4) Medicine. Some medicines may lead to weight gain. Ask your health care provider or pharmacist about the side effects of any medication you are taking.

5) The world around you. You can find food and messages about food at home, at work, at shopping centers, on TV, and at family and social events. People may eat too many foods high in fat, sugar, and salt just because they are always there. On top of that, our modern world, with its remote controls, drive-in banks, and escalators, makes it easy to be physically inactive.

6) Emotions. Many people eat when they are bored, sad, angry, or stressed, even when they are not hungry.

Female weight gain stories really run the gamut from recent pregnancy to overall stress. Although you may not be able to control all the factors that lead to overweight, you can change your eating and physical activity habits. And by changing those habits, you may be able to improve your weight and your health.

Continue read here>>

Womens Fashion Accessories - Choosing the Perfect Womens Fashion Accessories

You can accent your look no matter what your style of clothing with the right womens fashion accessories. There are tons of accessories you can choose from too, like sunglasses or scarves. Fashion accessories can even be worn together to create a unique look. You'll just have to figure out which kinds of accessories will make the perfect you.

Scarves

These classic items are an iconic symbol of the elegant woman. Every woman should have one of these womens fashion accessories in their wardrobe. There are several uses for a scarf too. You can wear one around your neck, use it to protect your hair on a windy or rainy day and even use it to tie up your hair when you aren't up to involved styling of your hair.

Plus scarves are simply beautiful to look at. They come in paisleys, strips, polka dots and other more elaborate designs. The right scarf can really make a look pop.

Remember scarves are like make up colors. If you are a fall then you'll want to look for scarves that are slightly darker in shade, maroons, browns, tans and so on. If you are a spring pick a scarf with lighter colors like pinks and blues. This goes for the other make up 'types'.

Sunglasses

Even in the winter you could need a pair of sunglasses if it's a really sunny day outside. You'll have to make sure that you pick a pair of these high class womens fashion accessories for any season. Sunglasses can be a surprisingly pricey item but they are also very useful and can easily accent a look perfectly.

When shopping for a pair of sunglasses to accent you, make sure you pick up some with UV protection and medium to dark shades. More and more women start earning well as factories started hiring them because they were more disciplined workers compare to men.

With this growing independence, women started expressing themselves in society, and fashion was no different.

The fashion was influenced by two critical factors

Need for garments which enable free movement so that women can work easily in the factories. The invention of sewing machine and huge demand of clothes with changing lifestyle, created new ways of making clothes lighter and faster. This trend from bling to functionality even influenced some of the leading couture designers of the era and advent the ready to wear category (RTW) in fashion.

Secondly the fashion of the era representing the growing influence of women in the society and their changing role. Dressing up was no longer to attract men but it is also a mean to make social statement of well being.

Two achieve both of these goals the women fashion of the era moves toward more masculine wardrobe later popularized by Katherine Hepburn in Hollywood as brash and confident women.

This fashion was not only the beginning of liberalization of women in the western world but also a sign of pragmatic dressing of coming years.

Continue read here>>

Women Issues - Men Have to Change

Women are being raped, murdered, mutilated and their reproductive organs gauged out of them in places like Republic of Congo, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, and Rwanda. In these places, women are being gang raped with impunity from their respective governments or rebel forces. Domestic violence is becoming prevalent in countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Peru, and Uzbekistan. In these countries men subject their women to repeated physical and mental harassments, which will equate to torture in an developed society, yet these men continue to do so with little or no government intervention and when questioned hid behind their religion or culture. From the countries in South America, war-ravaged Eastern Europe, Africa, and Asia, the trafficking of women (starting girls as young as 10) for prostitution, brothels and dance bars is on the rise and often conducted by organized crime. The government machinery has full knowledge of these acts but chooses to do nothing about it or does to little because of extreme poverty in these countries. Most of the time the parents itself sell their girl child willingly for money. In the Middle East, a few governments still deny the basic rights for women. They can take women's rights out of their hands and place them in the hands of their male citizens, who turn to domination and control of helpless females and treat them as slaves.

Throughout the history of human kind, these kinds of abuses against women have been persistent. They have also become more organized, yet people prefer to turn a blind eye. These harassments and discriminations have become a social cancer that has survived for generations, slowly destroying womankind even to this day. The international watchdog on women's human rights is doing everything they can to identify and raise awareness of these acts.

Continue read here>>

Women Issues - Report from UN on Women's Rights

The progress in women's issues may not be at the expected level, but it is going in the right direction. It has not progressed any faster because the prejudices against women are inbuilt in many traditions. It is not easy to change in a decade the ways and traditions that have been observed and practiced for over thousands of years. Nevertheless, all journeys begin with a single step. There are some reports of advancements with regard to equality in workplace and the increased hiring of women in male-dominated professions in countries like India and South Africa. Finally, the governments of South America continent are also taking women’s concerns seriously. Women in these countries are able to get loans from the banks freely without much red tape, and this loaned money has helped them live better lives. The right to vote was also briefly given to the women in Kuwait. This act alone put enormous pressure on Kuwait’s neighboring countries in and around Middle East, which do not allow their women to vote because they are still considered second-class citizens. As a whole, the international women's suffrage movement is slowly and steadily gaining momentum.

The gender wage gap is unfortunately growing wider. Countries who have promised to implement the necessary actions have not done so, and women living in these areas continue to accept wages way below what they deserve. Many countries have not accepted the results from the Women's World Conference and unfortunately continue to disregard issues that concern women and their rights. In some societies, violence against women has even escalated and sometimes takes place in public. When their respective governments are questioned or asked to stop these practices, they justify the violence as a component of their religion, culture, or tradition. In the United States, the average woman holding a white-collar job is paid 72 cents on a man’s dollar. When a survey was conducted asking people what they thought was a good pay for women working the same job as a man, almost all respondents believed that that 80 cents on a man's dollar was a good figure for a woman doing the same job. The statistics gets worse for women in the lower class structures. In third world countries, women do almost half of the farming and harvesting of crops. They also maintain grocery shops along with running the household alone. These women still get paid significantly less when compared to men who perform the same job. It then becomes very hard for women to raise their standards of living because they are forced to depend on men for everything. The governments and business owners of these countries have yet to realize that work once used to be done by men can be done by women who produce equal or better products than her male counterpart.

Continue read here>>

Womens Issues

The numerous physical and mental ailments that befall a woman make up most of the women issues with breast cancer, diabetes and reproductive and birth control issues to name a few. This is because these people believe that the same thing worn in the office can also be used in a physical activity.

This just means that it is not enough to buy a top and shorts when women decide to workout. This is because adequate support must also be given to the breasts since a lot of females feel very uncomfortable when the person has to jump, run or lift weights. In order to prevent injuries in the breasts, the sports bra was invented.

Sports bras are not that hard to find. There are different brands that can be found in the department store and the only thing the individual should do is find the right one ideal for the body.

Getting the right sports bra also depends on the level of intensity that the person is engaged in. These are classified into three namely low, medium and high impact exercises.

Low impact includes cycling, hiking and yoga. Medium could be brisk walking, jogging or skating while high may be aerobics, running or tae bo.

So what kind of sports bra is ideal for the individual? This really depends on the size of the woman’s breasts. For example, women who are flat or small chested should consider wearing a halter-top. Those whose breasts are large should buy something that has separately molded cups so that it isn’t too tight when the person wears it.

If the customer has never worn one before, it is best to try a few on in order to find that ideal sports bra that is snug and will not give the person a hard time breathing. The individual should even jump or walk around to see how flexible it is.

The sports bra should also be able to absorb sweat. Some manufacturers use dri-fit technology making it easy to dry after an exercise.

There is also another bra that prevents serious injury should something hit the person in the chest. This is called a shock absorber bra. It has different levels of protection ranging from 1 to 4 that works by having a double inner layer sewn into the fabric.

This type of bra also has a breathable mesh that absorbs sweat. This is fastened in the back unlike the conventional sports bra that has to be put on like wearing a shirt.

Continue read here>>

Plus Size Womens Clothing - Having Difficulty Finding It?

More than half the women in the country fall outside what the fashion industry calls standard sizes.
