My Footprint

Known for his work on HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" Jeff Garlin career also encompasses writing, producing, directing, acting and performing stand-up comedy. Garlin both co-stars and executive produces "Curb" alongside "Seinfeld" creator Larry David. Garlin plays David's loyal manager Jeff Green. A Second City Theatre alumnus, Jeff Garlin has toured the country as a stand-up comedian. Garlin's first film as a director, "I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With," was released to critical acclaim. Most recently, he was the voice of The Captain in Disney•Pixar's "Wall-e" and is Buttercup the Unicorn in the upcoming "Toy Story 3". Jeff's latest endeavor is his book, "My Footprint: Carrying the Weight of the World," which will be released on February 23rd.

Love syndicates his daily cartoon "Snapshots" to millions of readers in print and on the Internet and has been published in dozens of books and have their own line of greeting cards. In addition to that, his humor column "So It Goes" runs in over 50 publications, including The Ventura County Star, Frontier Airlines' in-flight, Toastmaster International, and Funny Times. Even with all that, his mother still asks when he is going to get a real job.

Speed Bump

Cartoonist Dave Coverly is the man behind the popular cartoon panel, Speed Bump, which can be found in over 400 publications including the Washington Post, Toronto Globe & Mail, Detroit Free Press, Chicago Tribune and more. Of course, you may also recognize his work from the beautiful art he did for the new BOB&TOM Project, Dead Air. Coverly began his work as a cartoonist in 1986 while attending Easter Michigan University, then continued his craft while at Indiana University. His work at IU earned him the first of his collections of awards including Best Greeting Cards, Best Newspaper Panel and the Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist. He also colaborated on the children's book Sue MacDonald Had a Book.

Guilt and Manipulation

Elizabeth Beckwith got her start in comedy at an early age. Growing up in Las Vegas, Beckwith started performing in bars and cafes at the tender age of 16. After graduating college, J.D. Shapiro headed for LA with $900 and a head full of dreams. Knowing that wasn’t going to get him very far, he also brought along a spec script he wrote called Robin Hood: Men in Tights. This little script was discovered by comedy film giant Mel Brooks and the rest is history. Shapiro has since gone on to write a number of other films including We Married Margo (which helped him become friends with George Lucas). Along with writing, Shapiro is also an actor, the author of The Truth About Men and an accomplished stand-up comedian.

Big Nose Little Dog

Comedian Mario DiGiorgio hasn’t been in the business long, but when you can win a “Funniest Person in Austin” contest less than a year after joining the profession, you know you’ve made a good career move. The to add to his resume, he followed that up by becoming a finalist in the HBO/Aspen Open Call for Stand-Up; was a finalist in Comedy Central’s "Laugh Riots" competition and was the principal comic in an Anheuser-Busch industrial commercial. These days, Mario can be found touring the country with an ever-swelling catalogue of smart, inventive material. Along with his budding stand-up career, Mario has also started his own clothing line called BigNoseLittleDog, and wrote the uplifting book A Cynic’s Guide to a Rich and Full Life.

John Feinstein is one of the most celebrated and enjoyed sports writers of all time. Robert Tuchman always knew he wanted to work in sports, unfortunately his career didn’t begin that way. Tuchman first got a job making cold calls for a Wall Street stockbroker-trainee program but soon realized he was never going to be happy doing that. He then took the plunge and began running his own business out of his small apartment. Before long, his business of setting up companies with tickets to major sporting events had taken off, and he was running a multi-city corporation, and rubbing elbows with sports legends. He’s also recently put his knowledge of sports to good use in his new book The 100 Sporting Events You Must See Live, a travel guide/ encyclopedia of ways to score tickets, where to stay, and what to do to have a blast at the world’s greatest events.

A former stand-up comedian, Bill Scheft decided a number of years ago that he preferred writing the jokes to telling them. That's what's made him such a valuable asset to "The Late Show w/ David Letterman," where he's one of the head writers for Dave's famous opening monologues. He also contributed to the new book, The Late Show Fun Facts, authored by Letterman and the other Late Show writers. But this isn't Bill's only published work, he's also the author of three novels, The Ringer, Time Won't Let Me, and Everything Hurts,. His newest book is The Final Four of Everything.

We all know the drill by now, why do they insist that we listen to that same 15 second recording every time? Pogue has been featured on "48 Hours" and "60 Minutes," graduated summa cum laude from Yale, and spent ten years conducting and arranging Broadway Musicals. With all that, we're sure to find something interesting to talk about when he calls in.

The End of Our Love Affair with Automobiles?
PJ O'Rourke is the author of a dozen best-selling books, a former editor of The National Lampoon, comic, satirist and is one of America's most highly respected journalists. He graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and attended the graduate program at Johns Hopkins before he began his career of skewering both the left and the right with his canny, thorny wit.
O'Rourke has written are The National Lampoon (which he first joined in 1973, becoming editor-in-chief in 1978), Automobile, American Spectator, Playboy, Esquire, Vanity Fair, and Harper's. He was also the Foreign Affairs Desk Chief for Rolling Stone, a position which allowed him to expose the hypocrisies of world politics from the Persian Gulf to the Philippines. Currently he is the H. L. Mencken Research Fellow of the Cato Institute and a regular correspondent for The Atlantic Monthly. Quite a pedigree.
His new book, "Driving Like Crazy" is subtitled: Thirty years of Vehicular hell-bending - Celebrating America the way it's supposed to be - with an oil well in every back yard, a Cadillac in every carport, and the chairman of the federal reserve mowing our lawn.
