Her declaration makes it all the more refreshing to see a supermodel sharing a breastfeeding photo on Instagram. Natalia Vodianova, a Russian model notable for her work with Calvin Klein, released the first photo of her son, Maxim, who was born in early May. Unsurprisingly, it is a beautiful moment between mother and baby.

Toy 'R' Us to Launch New Kid Tablet

Toys 'R' Us is soon to offer a $150 Tabeo tablet for kids. It will have parental controls, have a kid-friendly 7-inch screen and will go on sale October 21 but can be pre-ordered now.

According to an artilce at CNET.com news;

Toys "R" Us will sell a new Android tablet aimed at the younger crowd.

The 7-inch Tabeo tablet sounds like a lot of entry-level Android tablets. Powered by a 1GHz processor, the multitouch device comes with 4GB of built-in storage but can handle up to 32GB with a micro SDHC card.

This is one of a group of computer tablets that are aimed at kids. I think there is a bright future for these products and that your kids can learn a lot using tablet computers.

Several new outlets are reporting on a new study that states the long term brestfeeding my be tied to more aggressive kinds of breast cancer.

Long-Term Breast-Feeding Tied to More Aggressive Cancers Though nursing is thought to reduce risk, more advanced tumors noted in study.

According to the article;

Women who breast-feed for six months or more face a higher risk of developing the most aggressive types of breast cancer, but it's not clear whether there's a cause-and-effect relationship, a new study finds.

Maria Cheng of The Associated Press, writes in an article titled Experts debate merits of breast cancer screening;

At a breast cancer conference Friday in Barcelona, experts discussed how to implement mammogram screening programs across Europe, balancing fighting cancer with the goal of targeting only those women who need to be screened.

Graco Strollers Recalled

Over at MSNBC.com they are quoting from an AP story about the recent Graco Stroller Recall in an online article titled Fingertip amputations prompt stroller recall.

About 1.5 million Graco strollers sold at Wal-Mart, Target and other major retailers are being recalled after some children's fingertips were amputated by hinges on the products.

The recall by Graco Children's Products Inc. includes certain model numbers of its Passage, Alano and Spree Strollers and Travel Systems. The Exton, Pa., company received seven reports of children placing their fingers in a stroller's canopy hinge as the canopy was being opened or closed. Five children had their fingertips severed and two children received cuts on their fingertips.

You have to wonder how this could happen, but sadly because I worked in a manufacturing plant at one point in my life I understand the design process and what it takes to get complex goods to market. Safety of the end user is not always the focus, though it should be. I just hope this causes all those who design products for children to put safety first, as so many of them claim that they do.

MSNBC.com is reporting that there is a national Baby Food Recall.

Plum Organics is recalling some of its apple and carrot portable pouch baby food because of concerns over possible botulism contamination. The product was sold individually throughout the country at Toys-R-Us and Babies-R-Us stores.

Consumers should not use these products, even if they appear to be normal, because of the possible health risk.

The recalled product is sold in 4.22-ounce pouches, with a "best by" date of May 21, 2010, and UPC 890180001221.

Math Curse
This book was a case of me as a dad trying to sneek some math ideas into my duaghters head. I noticed early on that she did not enjoy math, so I had to get subversive, and trick her into having fun with math. This book really helped, and when she became older she accepted some of the concepts that the book introduced her to.

The illustrations are very well done, and help make the points being made by the text perfectly. The book is fun for young and for older children. It is obvious and subtle at the same time. There are a lot of ideas in this book, so much so that as your child grows they will begian to vew the book in different ways. I am sure that this book helped my daughter have more fun with math, she never really learned to like math, but this book helped.

Falling Up

All the things that I love about Shel Silverstein's other books, I also love about this one. I bought these books as much for our daughter as I did for myself. And it makes me laugh saying that, but it is true. And now that our daughter is grown I am still enjoying them.

This book with its silly ryhems and wonderful ink drawings is sure to delight your child as much as it does me. And who knows you may like it as much as I do.

This is the book that made me decide that I had to try to create my own list of 100 books for children. Not that I can do better then what is offered here by Anita Silvey, a longtime children's book specialist and literature lover, but this book is just so interesting that you have to see if you can come up with your own list. This book however is much more than just a list, it gives the background on many of your childhood favorites and many of the books that will be the favorites of your children.
