And now he’s finally bringing that unique voice to a memoir. In Someone Could Get Hurt, he reflects on his own parenting experiences to explore the anxiety, rationalizations, compromises, and overpowering love that come with raising children in contemporary America.

In brutally honest and funny stories, Magary reveals how American mothers and fathers cope with being in over their heads (getting drunk while trick-or-treating, watching helplessly as a child defiantly pees in a hotel pool, engaging in role-play with a princess-crazed daughter), and how stepping back can sometimes make all the difference (talking a toddler down from the third story of a netted-in playhouse, allowing children to make little mistakes in the kitchen to keep them from making the bigger ones in life). It’s a celebration of all the surprises—joyful and otherwise—that come with being part of a real family.

In the wake of recent bestsellers that expose how every other culture raises their children better, Someone Could Get Hurt offers a hilarious and heartfelt defense of American child rearing with a glimpse into the genuine love and compassion that accompany the missteps and flawed logic. It’s the story of head lice, almost-dirty words, and flat head syndrome, and a man trying to commit the ultimate act of selflessness in a selfish world.

According to Hufffington Post;Natalia Vodianova instagrams breastfeeding photo

To that question, she says, "Yes... because if we continue to treat it as a secret art form, reserved for private rooms and hushed conversations, it will remain a taboo. It will become lost in the passage of time, further misunderstood and out of reach for future mothers."

Her declaration makes it all the more refreshing to see a supermodel sharing a breastfeeding photo on Instagram.

Natalia Vodianova, a Russian model notable for her work with Calvin Klein, released the first photo of her son, Maxim, who was born in early May. Unsurprisingly, it is a beautiful moment between mother and baby.

According to an artilce at CNET.com news;

Toys "R" Us will sell a new Android tablet aimed at the younger crowd.

The 7-inch Tabeo tablet sounds like a lot of entry-level Android tablets. Powered by a 1GHz processor, the multitouch device comes with 4GB of built-in storage but can handle up to 32GB with a micro SDHC card.

This is one of a group of computer tablets that are aimed at kids. I think there is a bright future for these products and that your kids can learn a lot using tablet computers.
The Exton, Pa., company received seven reports of children placing their fingers in a stroller's canopy hinge as the canopy was being opened or closed. Five children had their fingertips severed and two children received cuts on their fingertips.

You have to wonder how this could happen, but sadly because I worked in a manufacturing plant at one point in my life I understand the design process and what it takes to get complex goods to market. Safety of the end user is not always the focus, though it should be. I just hope this causes all those who design products for children to put safety first, as so many of them claim that they do.

For more information about the recalled strollers, consumers can call 800-345-4109 or visit http://www.cpsc.gov.

Wilde and Clarke: "I Had a Little Dog"

Wilde and Clarke singing "I had a Little Dog"

Notes from YouTube;
I Had a Little Dog, a Children's song written & performed by Key Wilde & Mr. Clarke

Baby Food Recalled

MSNBC.com is reporting that there is a national Baby Food Recall.

Plum Organics is recalling some of its apple and carrot portable pouch baby food because of concerns over possible botulism contamination.

With its lovely, humorous illustrations and wonderful narrative about a hungry caterpillar growing up to be a beautiful butterfly, Eric Carle's story touches anyone who still has some growing to do. Along with reassuring repetition--"He was still hungry ..."--the book includes some wonderful interactive moments: what youngster can resist sticking a finger through that hole in the page as his ravenous friend makes his way through various delicacies?

I noticed early on that she did not enjoy math, so I had to get subversive, and trick her into having fun with math. This book really helped, and when she became older she accepted some of the concepts that the book introduced her to.

The illustrations are very well done, and help make the points being made by the text perfectly. The book is fun for young and for older children. It is obvious and subtle at the same time. There are a lot of ideas in this book, so much so that as your child grows they will begian to vew the book in different ways. I am sure that this book helped my daughter have more fun with math, she never really learned to like math, but this book helped.

Book Details

Reading level: Ages 4-8

Hardcover: 32 pages
Publisher: Viking Juvenile (October 1, 1995)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0670861944
ISBN-13: 978-0670861941
Dimensions: 11.3 x 11 x 0.4 inches

Math Curse

Friday Baby Funny - Baby Talks on Phone

I find it very funny this little lady talking on the phone. Not that I can do better then what is offered here by Anita Silvey, a longtime children's book specialist and literature lover, but this book is just so interesting that you have to see if you can come up with your own list. This book however is much more than just a list, it gives the background on many of your childhood favorites and many of the books that will be the favorites of your children.

One reviewer states,
When I first saw this book, I was expecting a list and not much more. But the depth and research that went in to this book is extraordinary! Anita Silvey even knew most of the authors and illustrators for these books personally - you can't get much closer to the sources than that! A delight to read, and full of insightful, delightful historical information and personalized anecdotes, this book would be a perfect addition to anyone's bookshelf, no matter what age!
Book Details

Hardcover: 208 pages
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (April 9, 2004)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0618278893
ISBN-13: 978-0618278893
Product Dimensions: 8.6 x 5.8 x 0.8 inches

Books for Parents @BabyBuggyBumper
