It costs one dollar on iTunes (that’s less than I paid for Pink’s I wish I was a Punkrocker… but I digress)  and this iphone application will monitor your baby. Perhaps you might sit in the loungeroom next to the landline? It will give you a call once the baby makes a noise.

Not a great baby gift for someone with a baby who snores.

I know, most of the techno baby gifts I have found involve sound.

But this more than just one product. Called the Pico-ipod, it’s an iPod-enabled  baby stroller.  It clips apart to be an iPod-enabled  car seat and an iPod-enabled  baby bag. I have a question, what is an iPod-enabled  cosycoon. All I know is that I want one!

An ideal baby gift for someone, wait for it, with an ipod.

This interesting baby product is based upon the premise that a baby in the womb gets used to hearing it’s mother’s heat beat. So you strap on a little “heart beat-er” to a pregnant belly to (they say) help baby learn and distinguish the difference between the mother’s heartbeat and the “fake” heartbeat.

It sounds a bit like a mean mind-game to me, but the company’s research indicates that babies who used the Babyplus Prenatal Education System, nurse better, reach milestones earlier, get better grades at school, even drive a porsche…

Not a great baby gift for someone with palpitations or cardiac arrhythmia.

“The Ritmo Advanced Pregnancy Sound System consists of a controller and a fashionable (my emphasis!)  fabric belt which has four speakers fixed into it. The pregnant mummy can tie the fabric belt around their pregnant belly and plug in an audio player such as iPod into the controller.”

A cool baby gift, agreed. But a fashionable one? An ideal baby gift for the not-so-fashion-concious-music-lover in your life.

In my day, the set of keys were always a makeshift toy. Funnily enough, I didn’t leave home without them. Now it seems that no mother-about-town is without her iphone - hence the application that turns an iphone into a baby rattle.  

Techincally quite amazing. By touching the screen you can make the rattle graphics bigger or smaller, which in turn changes the tempo and pitch. By flipping your phone (screen to the floor) you move to the next type of rattle…to keep baby amused or so Mum does not get sick of the one sound?… I am not sure, but I was certainly mesmorized by the online demo I saw.

I just have two practical issues. Hard floors. Saliva.

The iphone baby rattle application would be an ideal baby gift for someone who has neither.

The fetal MP3. In my day, you stuck your ultrasound picture on the fridge for all to admire. Now it seems that you can not only hear your baby’s heart beat, but record it on an MP3 player for posterity. 

An ideal baby gift for someone who drives a “duff-duff” car. You know, the cars that flash and bounce up and down at traffic lights to the beat of terrible music…

I apologise most profusely for the lack of blogs. Marianne and I have just finished the GHA Home and Giving Trade Fair. We were run off our feet, sold lots of baby gifts, so much so that I collapsed into bed at 8.30 every night, leaving little room in my exhasted life for blogging.

Here is a lovely photo of me packing up yesterday, (my cleavage!)  in my lovely saftey vest, some sock roses and the $347 resin pig that smiled at me for the duration of the trade fair. I will miss him.

The things your children teach you. My daughters, now au fait with blogging,  love glitterfy and asked me to use it in todays blog. Little girls always love a bit of sparkle. I don’t mind some myself…

A cupcake bakery has opened in New York called the “Butch Bakery”.  The testosterone-filled gourmet house makes “uniquely male” flavours of cupcakes, including rum and coke, mojito & beer run. I myself am not sure about the Driller, with crumbled bacon as an ingredient!

The blokey buns are decorated in a choice of  Woodland Camo, Woodgrain, Houndstooth, Plaid, Checkerboard or Marble patterned icing.

I love the slogan - “where butch meets buttercream” but I am not entirely convinced that “butch” is the right word…

Our sock jam is featured on the cover of Milieu, the Reed Gift Fair magazine for the Sydney Gift Fair. However we are not exhibiting at the Reed  Gift fair, we are exhibiting at the GHA Home and Giving Fair at Sydney Olympic Park,  in Homebush.
