Let me introduce you to my son, the little daredevil. Yes, I know I’ve introduced Little A on here before but I thought now would be the perfect time to let ya’ll know that no matter how many kids

IMG: Elizabeth Ferree

you have that were calm as a baby does NOT ensure that you will always have that. Little A, aka the daredevil, is our last child and let me tell you he is anything but calm. This little guy has given me so many white hairs and probably bald spots on my head that I just can’t see yet. Let me tell ya about him and then you tell me about your own little daredevil.

First, ’the daredevil’ was not born like his brother or sisters, instead he had to be induced. When he was born everything seemed to be perfectly fine, that is until we got him home. He was the quietest of all babies, I knew something was wrong though when I’d clap beside him or something would fall and he had no reaction. It was as if he didn’t hear anything. We took him to the doctor to which they told us he was probably ignoring us already and ran a few tests but couldn’t figure it out. A few weeks later he stopped breathing, it was scary. I ran his lifeless body up the stairs screaming for the hubby would had been sleeping after working two jobs. He ran down, grabbed him and all the guys (both sons and dad) flew out the door to ER. Once again no one knew what was wrong but he’d began breathing before they got through the ER doors.

He’s just the type that will keep you guessing and fearing all things. He learned to climb, we had to put something in front of the stairs. One day he decided to actually RUN down the stairs, I had no clue he could even climb down them. He tries unlocking the glass door to go out on the balcony, this is a strong lock. He’s jumped from the couch, climbed the dining room chairs, climbed up my food cabinet and tried jumping off each one. Yes, this child will wait until he sees I’m about to run for him and then just fly back, jump off or whatever. My heart will jump 100 miles a minute and leave me in the shakes.

He’s fallen on his face, tripped and fell against his knees. Ya know I know people say boys will be boys but why torture mommy so much. Today, he was on a dining room chair, he’s trying to be like his big sisters who sit on them. He’d pulled it into the living room and was running around, sure enough he went to jump onto it. Not sure how he thought he’d jump from the ground on top of the chair, but he tried. He did not succeed, instead he fell face hitting just the right part and bit into a big chunk of his lip. Blood everywhere, a quick popsicle in the mouth and all was fine. In fact, he’s already tried doing it again. What is it with little daredevils?

I wonder how that would be at a BBQ birthday party, I may just have to try. I told the kids about this one and they all want me to make it for their birthdays so I guess we’ll see if I do it for a baby party or one of them.

Do you remember any creative cakes you’ve ever created or had made for your baby? What were they?

I’ve had four children, all four were breastfed and weaned. Yes I can say each one has their own story on how they finally ended their breastfeeding days. Some weren’t so nice to mommy while

IMG: sxc.hu

others just made her feel bad, only two would give it up on their own with no fighting me. I think the first and last were the hardest to wean, I’m not sure if that’s because one was a first and last baby. What were the reactions of your children when it came time to wean?

With my first I ended up with two bad cases of mastitis, which was very painful. The second time I got it the doctor gave me a pill that would immediately dry the milk supply up and the baby would not be able to drink whatsoever. Those were horrible days, I felt so guilty doing it to him for so reason and cold turkey to top it off. I was in pain, besides having mastitis but the pain of being engorged as well.

With my second child they informed me that they no longer had that pill to make it dry up. She would attempt to stop and then go back, I battled with mastitis every time she tried to stop. The third I can’t even recall but she was easier, no mastitis. This last one took a lot longer than I thought but no mastitis, however now that he is off he still comes at me. There are visits to my room but he no longer tries to nurse, instead he cuddles up to me and sticks his hand down my shirt. Even during the day he does this. But I can state he’s officially off.

Did your child ever stick their hand down your shirt even after they were weaned?

I couldn’t help but laugh today when I read Extraordinary Mom’s post on “Bribery aheam- I Mean Reward.” How many of us haven’t used bribery to get our

IMG: Sxc.hu

young one to do something? She’s currently going through the potty training phase, so lets all head over there and pop in with a few ideas. I know we’ve bribed with hot wheel cars and for the girls once they were completely done it was a Barbie Doll. What did your child get as a potty training reward?

MommyMaria is talking about the word’s little people say, I must admit they can crack me up. Does your little person have any favorite words that only you understand? What are some? Don’t forget to let Maria know. Here’s a few mine likes to say: wawa= water, vegtals=veggietales, yoyobaby= yobaby yogurt, dooce=juice and my favorite peas with one hand curled under his chin= please.

The Mommy Blog is asking “Who do you think should Raise Michael Jackson’s Kids?” I’m all for his mom doing it, would hate to see them go through anything else. Course now that pictures of the children’s childhood photos are now appearing on OK Magazine I must wonder who will honor Michael’s wishes in not having the pictures everywhere.

Over at 5 Minutes for Mom, Susan admits to running a red light when her young one became ill and she had to get to the hospital. Isn’t it amazing the things you’ll do to protect your child? Yes, it is very distracting having them crying beside you in the car and not knowing what is going on. I remember the time my youngest quit breathing and my husband flew down the road and ran a red light to get him into ER. By the time he reached it he was fine, no one ended up knowing what caused it but it just shows there is nothing that will tear you away from your child when they are helpless.

Finally the Blonde Mom Blog believes the Ice Cream Man is the 5th Apocolypse and I must say I totally agree. I mean how often are you just about to eat dinner and suddenly you hear the sound of that crazy, chocolate filled truck? Or you just arrive home, thinking you can duck safely inside and realize he must have a tracker on you and pulls down the road as you open the car door? Let her know how you feel.

Have you read any funny mommy related stories lately?

It was the facial expressions I’ll never forget, even today when he eats chicken he gets the weirdest expressions, I’m guessing it is the texture. His favorite finger food is peaches and pears, least favorite is peas.

Of course they found her during the summer which fits perfectly.

husband is actually one of those, in fact he will state that he can count the amount of times he changed a bottom on his two hands between all the kids. By the way, we have four children and the youngest is being potty trained now. I’ll also state that while he likes to state this it isn’t entirely true but for the most part he is correct, he’s changed about 20-40 out of 4 kids. I decided to take this not only to twitter but to facebook as well and see how many responded.

Here are some excuses men will give to not change diapers:
- You are better at it.
- I’ve been working all day.
- It stinks.
- It’s a woman’s job.
- She’s a girl, I can’t change her.

Have you got an excuse that you’ve heard, share it here? I will update this post at another date to let ya’ll know the funny excuses.

I remember all the worries of being a new mom and all those dangerous things that you should or shouldn’t give your baby. Many things I didn’t even know, some I thought should be avoided

IMG: Sxc.hu

weren’t and others that I had no clue should were. Does this sound like you? Here’s a short list of 5 things you should avoid giving your baby at least until they are at least 3 years old.

Foods Babies Should Avoid: (in whole)
hot dogs
raw vegetables
raisins
nuts and seeds
whole grapes

Do you or have you ever given your baby these? Keep in mind that if you are giving them these items to make sure they are cut/diced/sliced up so your baby won’t choke on them. If you are giving it to them don’t leave them unattended. A few other items you might want to be careful of are peanut butter, candy that sticks (carmel, etc) and popcorn (because of the seeds). Can you think of some other food items that aren’t safe for your baby?

Brandon is a lot like my oldest son. He was 3 and a 1/2 before he would even begin to entertain the idea of potty training. He has it almost down now - just wears nighttime pull ups, but his little brother who just turned 2 is eager to start. I am going to start full on training for him in August when his big brother starts preschool
