“I’m grateful for all the support I’ve received from BOMF, CARA and my team as I make this transition,” said Kristina. “When you have the support of so many, you feel blessed that you’ve built such amazing relationships and know that you’ve made an incredible impact as you begin a new chapter in your life.”

Before joining Back on My Feet, Kristina served as community relations manager at Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA). In that role, Kristina conceptualized and designed the immensely successful CARA Road Scholars program, an innovative intervention program that challenges underprivileged teens to train for and complete a half marathon.

Kristina was also actively involved in building the CARA Charity Program, which enabled organizations of all sizes and interests to raise additional funds by taking part in CARA’s popular training programs.She also worked to secure sponsorships, grants and execute two major events for CARA, including CARA’s Ready to Run 20 Miler and the CARA Lakefront 10 Miler.

Prior to working at CARA, Kristina served as the community relations and special programs manager at Chicago Event Management/LaSalle Bank Corporation working on some of Chicago’s largest races, including LaSalle Bank Shamrock Shuffle, Distance Classic, LaSalle Bank Open, LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon. Among other noteworthy achievements, she grew and enhanced the LaSalle Chicago Marathon’s Charity Program from $4.7 million in 2004 to $9.5 million in 2006.

Further, while serving as the Community Relations Manager for Team ABN AMRO in the Volvo Ocean Race, Kristina created a local sailing program that participated in competitive regattas in Chicago and Michigan. She represented LaSalle Bank as a crew member for the Race to Mackinac in 2005 and was featured in a CBS special that highlighted her team and LaSalle Bank.

Kristina received her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from DePaul University in Chicago, Ill. She taught kindergarten and first grade prior to transitioning into a career in event management.

Kristina participated in four consecutive LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathons (2000-2003) and has run the New York, London and Cincinnati Marathons. She has also completed eighteen triathlons, including one full Ironman distance and four half Ironman distances.

Kristina enjoys running, golfing and sailing her sail boat up at Northwestern University and, as a White Sox season ticket holder, takes in as many games as she can during the baseball season. Kristina lives in Chicago and absolutely loves the City and all it offers!

Those coordinators visit our facilities, check in on all our teams to see that all is well and help coordinate the transition of our new members to the Next Steps program, where they enter education, jobs training, housing and other programs.

Recently, Austin Gee, one of the first five staff members of Back on My Feet left his role as Philadelphia Program Coordinator to return to teaching. While it was sad to see him go, we’ve been blessed to welcome a new passionate person with lots of enthusiasm for Back on My Feet.

This week, we welcomed on our new Philadelphia Program Coordinator Katie Pfeifer, who, like Gee, was a Ridge Team Leader.

“I would like to welcome Katie to our fun filled working environment. Katie has past experience working with nonprofit organizations and is our team leader at our Ridge team,” said Program Director Owen Camuso. “Katie’s personality fits the program coordinator role perfectly, as she does very well building relationships with our members.”

Katie graduated from Bucknell University with a degree in Economics and International Relations and The George Washington University with a Masters in Public Policy. Following graduation from Bucknell, she traveled to Louisiana where she taught first grade with Teach For America in Jackson, a small town north of Baton Rouge. Following a move to Philadelphia, she started running with Back On My Feet at Ridge and continues to run with them.

Katie says, “BOMF gives the unique opportunity to be a part of something truly wonderful. Morning runs put a smile on everyone’s face and accomplishing so much early in the morning helps to start the day off right.”

She has logged many a mile along the Boston Marathon course on foot, as well as many a frequent flyer mile in air while visiting athletes and running major events around the globe. Debra continues to be impressed by the industry and individuals, and brings her passion, expertise and inquisitive nature to work at BOMF.

Prior to her time at John Hancock, Debra served the City Year Boston team as the Corporate Relations Manager from 2003 to 2006. While there, she was instrumental in all facets of City Year’s external affairs and development initiatives. She successfully rejuvenated City Year’s team sponsor program and strengthened the program while sharing insights with other local offices of City Year.

Before that, Debra was the Crew Coordinator for the Southwest Region at Palotta Teamworks where she managed recruitment, training, planning, budgeting and overall event orchestration for the crew members who supported the participants throughout four major events. Prior to her time in the public sector, Debra spent seven years working with Deloitte first as a Business Analyst and then as a Senior Consultant.

Debra spent her first year in the professional world with “Up With People.” During this year, she managed the event promotion, advance logistic needs and recruitment activities for the cast tour.

She received her Bachelor of Arts from Hamilton College, Clinton, New York; and her Masters in Business Administration from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

Austin started running in college when he was too small for the soccer team and ended up falling in love with the sport!

He learned about BOMF while living in Delaware, and was excited to join the team upon moving to Philadelphia to teach in 2008. From team member to team leader to full-time employee, Austin lives and breathes BOMF!

He joined Back on My Feet in summer 2009.
