Neck, left shoulder and upper back pain are a common condition that many Americans will suffer from at some point during their life. The pain caused from this can be from mild and achy to severe and chronic or anywhere in between. The causes of neck, left shoulder and upper back pain are as varied as the pain but your shoulder is often the cause. The shoulder joints movements and complex composition makes the shoulder very vulnerable to such things as tears, strains, and sprains. This can induce inflammation of the bursa, ligaments, muscles, and capsules involved in the joints makeup. Injury to the shoulder can result in neck, left shoulder and upper back pain. The shoulders joints, muscles, and tendons allow your arms their wide range of motion and if injured, it may result in pain in the shoulder and upper back that is temporary and disappears quickly or is severe and long lasting.

Some of the many causes of neck, left shoulder and upper back pain include tendinitis, which is a cord, connecting the bones, muscles or other tissues. Tendinitis can result from wear and tear over a period of years or acute injury. Other causes of tendinitis include overuse and degenerative disease. Rotator cuff injuries are one of the most common causes of neck, left shoulder and upper back pain. Your rotator cuff is tendons and muscles that provide stability and motion to your shoulder. The space provided for your rotator cuff is very narrow, so and swelling or inflammation can cause neck, left shoulder and upper back pain along with weakening your arm.

Lifestyle changes often help or prevent neck, left shoulder and upper back pain. Although you cannot always prevent injuries and accidents, there are things you can do to help stop recurring pain. Along with staying in good physical shape, a regular daily exercise program that focuses on your shoulder, neck, and back area helps strengthen and protect them. Always use proper lifting techniques, maintain good posture, learn to deal with unhealthy stress in a positive way and find new ways to perform jobs that aggravate your problem.

Anyone experiencing neck, left shoulder and upper back pain should see their doctor to get their condition diagnosed. The evaluation may consist of a physical examination and various tests such as x-rays, range of motion tests, MRI scans, and a neurological inspection. Once your doctor determines the cause of your neck, left shoulder and upper back pain, he or she will start you on a treatment program.

Go to google books and type in the name of the book or a topic you’re interested in. Google books will come back with search results. If it says there’s a preview available, you click on the search result and you can read a few pages of the book online. Most books, however, are not entirely online; you’ll get a certain number of pages and that’s all. For a book to be entirely online, it cannot be copyrighted or its copyright has to have expired (so older books are sometimes online). Other books don’t have previews at all or only have “snippet view” which lets you search through some of the pages for a particular keyword, but only shows you the sentence around it, and not the whole page.

When you buy a sony reader 505 can you get any google book on it for free?

I’m looking at buying a sony reader 505 to lessen the amount of books I need to carry. I went on google books and found that some of my high school textbooks were available on it. I was wondering will I be able to get any book on google books unto my sony reader without having to buy it.

Andrew answers:

I’m a college student too. I owned the Kindle 2 and I’ve got some textbooks on my Kindle. Indeed, I’ll recommend you to get the Kindle instead of Sony Reader. If you can get the Google book in PDF format, they will be readable on both the Kindle and Sony Reader. However, the Kindle has better feature and more content available (as it is supported by Amazon) compared to the Sony Reader. There is an article compare the Kindle 2 and the latest version of Sony Reader:

http://www.speedreaderxreview.com/kindle-2-0-vs-sony-reader-prs-700bc-comparison

Not only the Kindle has more content available, but also Amazon has signed contract with three major textbook publishers so eventually 60% of textbook will be available on the Kindle, and they will be cheaper than the actual textbooks. There is a discussion about textbook on the Kindle here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Ftagging%2Ftag%2Fkindle%20accessory%2Fforum%3Fie%3DUTF8%26cdForum%3DFxN2DL0SM859KO%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcd%255Fef%255Ftft%255Ftp%26cdThread%3DTxHWS9EDB4EXI8%26displayType%3DtagsDetail&tag=moreinfo-po-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

I’ll recommend you to read this review on the Kindle 2 too, it outlines quite a lot of benefits of the ebook reader:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR9J54TZ1541OR%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ASIN%3DB00154JDAI%26nodeID%3D%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Fpr%255Fcmt&tag=moreinfo-po-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

Depends on the year of copyright. If it’s out of copyright there’s a number of potential places. However if it’s still in copyright than you are going to have a hard time finding a sight that doesn’t violate copyright. There are a few groovy authors out there who make things openly available, but they are rare.

Some libraries have access to full text copyrighted work but most of them require that you belong to the organization that they belong to.

Regardless of the causes of upper back pain, it is still as miserable and agonizing as any other type of back pain. Although not as common as lower back or neck pain, it can cause significant soreness, discomfort, agony, and inconvenience and requires proper treatment. The most common causes of upper back pain are strain or injury, which includes joint malfunction, muscular irritation, and poor posture. Statistics show that one of the major causes of upper back pain today is people sitting in one position for extended periods. Upper back pain is a very common problem for individuals that spend their days sitting at a desk or working on the computer. They are at more risk from back pain than most. It is important to find the causes of upper back pain in order to have it treated properly and successfully.

Causes of upper back pain include a joint malfunction usually resulting from an injury or strain to the joints between the upper back and ribs. Muscular irritation is another of the causes of upper back pain normally as the result of inactivity or inadequate muscle strength. A vertebra compression fracture can cause chronic or acute upper back pain. Complaints of upper back pain in women over fifty may indicate osteoporosis and a vertebral compression fracture. Although osteoporosis is more common in postmenopausal women, it can develop in perimenopause women and in men. Some of the treatments for a painful vertebral compression fracture are rest and pain medication, or kyphoplasty or vertebroplasty surgery. A ruptured or herniated disk and degenerative disk disease are other causes of upper back pain but these are very uncommon and found in a very tiny percentage of people that are unfortunate enough to suffer with upper back problems.

Loosening your upper back muscles along with strengthening them are important because it helps relieve the stress put on your upper back and may prevent reoccurrences of the causes of upper back pain in the future. A physical therapist or chiropractor can help you do this. Regular stretching and strengthening exercises and practicing appropriate posture are necessary to help avoid many of the causes of upper back pain. Poor posture strains the ligaments and joints leading to weak muscles and pain. You can also treat upper back pain through, stretching exercises, deep muscle massage, ice and/or heat therapy, and acupuncture. Your doctor may prescribe an anti-inflammatory, pain medication, or muscle relaxant to help you deal with the pain.

To find out the exact causes of upper back pain, never try diagnosing yourself as that could possible do more harm than good. Instead, talk to your doctor about your pain so he or she can run the necessary tests to find the exact cause.

I have to sit on my chair for work all day, so I have a low back pain.?

Do you get a low back pain, too?

Andrew answers:

Sitting puts more pressure on your back than any other position, even more than standing. To reduce this pressure, sit in chairs with straight backs or low-back support. Keep your knees a little higher than your hips. Adjust the seat or use a low stool to prop your feet on.
The first muscles you should stretch are your hamstrings. You sit all day and the seated position puts them in their shortest position. Standing up means your hamstrings are pulling on your pelvis and pulling things out of place. Keeping this muscle more flexible is key in helping your back pain.
The next muscles to stretch are your hip rotators. For this one, you can even do it while lying in bed or on the floor. Keep one leg straight while you pull your other leg up to your chest. You should feel a pull. You can further stretch this area by pulling your knee across your body to get better results. Again, hold the stretch for at least thirty seconds. Chances are, you’re not going to stop working on your computer any time soon. Taking a few minutes each day to do some stretching will make a world of difference. If your pain persists I would advise having a qualified professional assess your condition. Seeing a chiropractor on a regular basis is also a huge help.

I Have Low Back Pain AND Hurt Left Quad?

The past few weeks I hurt my left quad while running, then later my lower back began to hurt and now I can’t run at all with these pains. What should I do? Should I ice them both? These are really pissing me off cause they caused me to get last place in my first 2 track meets. Right now I’m taking the week off from track and not running at all, maybe I’ll take next week off too. What should I do?

Andrew answers:

Your back pain is because you are favoring your other leg. I would use heat and massage on the quad to loosen the muscle, promoting healing. The blood flow from the heat and massage will heal your quad quicker. Ice is used to get the swelling down and isn’t all that effective after 48 hours from my experience. Your back will fall in line when your quad recovers.

Ask your doctor. It sounds alot like SCIATICA, which starts at the tailbone and travels down the buttocks (one side or both sides) and down the leg.

Painful, hard to get into a comfortable position when in bed. Hard to be on your feet for too long, either.

Sleeping with a pillow under your legs helps when in bed. An anti inflammatory called Naproxen is usually given. Believe it or not, stretching exercises help.

Feel better. I know the pain.

Andrew answers:

For typing in general, powers are represented using the ” ^ ” (shift-6) key.

So for example, 3 squared is written as 3^2 and 15 to the power of 63 is 15^63.

Google Docs actually does something pretty cool when you use the shift-6 character – it converts the characters after it to superscript, so it looks like how you’d write powers by hand.

I don’ know. It has puzzled me ever since I was in junior high school more than 50 years ago, how they can lie to themselves and others. At the time I caught my Sunday School teacher lying about Darwin. After that I questioned everything about christianity. When you people (christians) lie for jesus, you should think about the consequences. Olando is a classic example. He is not satisfied with lying to himself, he has to lie to others. This is why they must not be allowed to teach religious dogma in science classes.

Lower back pain in women is so common you could almost make book on it. Why? Well sad to say but it seems to almost be a right of passage for women doesn’t it? How many of your friends can you name that talk about lower back pain in women? And the causes? In most instances it could be chalked up to “women’s problems” like endometriosis, cramps during their period, fibroids, cysts and pregnancy.

Now having said that, there are also a fair number of jobs in the marketplace that will also cause lower back pain in women. A couple of examples should ring a few bells for you if you happen to have a job like this – sales clerks on their feet all day, day care workers who lift children a lot, female firefighters who carry heavy objects, women who work on the docks with freight and those who sit for long hours at computer desks without the benefit of a proper chair to support their backs. No wonder lower back pain in women seems to be fairly prevalent. They are doing jobs that require a lot of strength and flexibility and spending time in uncomfortable positions that don’t give them a lot of stretch time.

There are other causes of lower back pain in women and one of them – although rare – can happen if you happen to fall on your butt – a bruised, crushed or broken tailbone. It’s right at the bottom of your spine and man alive does it ever hurt when you sit on it. This kind of an injury can occur during childbirth as well. It might even be as the result of an infection or tumor. No matter what the cause, this kind of lower back pain in women is unbearable and merits a fast trip to the doctor.

Speaking of childbirth, pregnancy can definitely cause lower back pain in women. Every last internal organ feels like it is re-arranged to allow room for the fetus to grow and this puts a tremendous amount of strain on your lower back. Not to mention the fact you will likely put on extra weight as your pregnancy progresses. You will change center of gravity as well as your baby grows, which will cause lower back pain too. It’s not too hard to imagine your ligaments being stretched to capacity while carrying your baby.
Pregnancy while a healthy and happy time, does mean that you will need to NOT do some things that you took for granted before you got pregnant – like lifting heavy objects (like your other child and the dog). After delivery of your new baby, lifting heavy object is considered to be a major no no, and so is doing the vacuuming, and other household chores. So kick back for a bit until your body catches up with your soul.
And, while we are on the subject of things to NOT do while you are pregnant and just after delivery, one of them that ranks right up there is wearing the high platform and spike heels so darn popular today. If you want major back pain, wear those puppies and stand on your feet all day. Talk about poor support for your lower back. Why? Because there is hardly any arch support for your feet.
Basically, just use your common sense when figuring out what you should and shouldn’t do during pregnancy and really, what you should or should not do during the normal course of your day. If you are planning on hauling a cast iron stove out of your house that weighs 850 pounds, it’s likely not a great idea to do it by yourself. You get the idea.

what mattress for back pain and stomach reflux?

I have stomach reflux and my doctor said I need to raise the top of my bed so acid doesn’t come to my mouth.
Andrew answers:

Visit any mattress store & ask to lie down on a FIRM mattress. Spend at least 10 minutes on that mattress & decide if it feels good; write down the cost & the mattress name & number. Thank the sales rep & say you’ll have to save some money [don't be ashamed, either.]

THEN go to Costco, Sam’s, or any place you can get it cheaper. If not the same, try out their FIRM mattress. You don’t need fancy-schmancy mattresses.

Really, a 3/4 inch thick plywood sheet (cost about $45.) & will slide under your present mattress very well & be plenty firm. Cut some wood blocks (4″x4″ ought to be hi enuf) & put one under each leg at the head of your bed. Now you have a firm mattress that fits your bod & you’ve done what your doc told you.

Now you need to learn what-&-how to eat properly. Be sure to take at least 20 minutes to eat a meal (SLOWLY is a must for you, too). Ask your doc’s nurse for a diet or food-list for your problem. Good luck! DO NOT chew “Tums”!

Andrew answers:

Lower back pain and a “pinched nerve” are two different things. Lower back pains can be muscular. Pinched nerves are involving the spine and the alignment of vertebrae. Muscles and nerves are not mutually exclusive, but when it comes to why your back hurts and how to treat it, you should be aware that a “pinched nerve” caused by actual misalignment of the spine is not something that will go away with muscle relaxants. You need to do yoga or exercises to help realign your spine and improve your posture. If you have a physical condition like a pinched nerve that developed from the type of work you do (e.g., package handler) and you continue to do the same work, expect your condition to worsen.

My back pain, causes and treatments?

I suffer from back pain and have done for several years, it seems to vary from day to day, sometimes its like a dull ache and others a burning sensation that runs the length of my spine.

Initially it was attributed to a weakness of the lower abdominal muscles but it has gradually spread to encompass my entire back.

I work in a retail environment which require me to stand all day, I have two fifteen minuet breaks and one hour lunch during a nine hour shift, I am required to bend my back and reach for things as well as lift products like sand and cement in order to check underneath bags for any missed items.

All my doctor has done is told me to loose some weight and see if this improves my condition, I have been trying and have only managed to shift a couple of pounds. I dont eat an unhealthy diet, I eat plenty of fruit and veg, avoid junk and eat small portions.

I am 4’9″ and weigh around 11 and a half stone, I am top heavy wearing a 36H bra.

What do you think causes the back problems and what can I do other that take painkillers and keep trying to loose weight?

Andrew answers:

Maria,

Reading through your question I can picture several responses.

1. The top heaviness, CAN and does cause back pain. Start by getting a very very supportive bra.

2. Lose Weight. To do this: eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full and pay attention to enjoying the foods you eat. This seems too simple to most people, but if you really do it you’ll end up eating more smaller meals and you WILL lose weight – it totally changes how your body perceives the need for fat storage.

3. Do these exercises:
- Rotate/roll your shoulders forward and up and around and let them settle low and as far back as they’ll stay, and get used to them staying back there.
- Lean over so your thighs touch your chest before you sit down. You’ll be on a different part of your bottom when you sit. Sit on that part of your bottom every time you sit.
- Suck in your belly and keep it sucked in for quite a while.

Give this stuff a try. I know a resource with more tips and information about these tips and will include the link below so you can dig deeper into a solution.

Good luck ditching this back pain,

Andrew answers:

Oh my Nikki, I am so sorry, because I know the exact pain you are speaking of.
Heres where this answer gets complicated and almost unbelievable……..For 2 yr after I had MRI’s done for the exact same symptoms I was told the exact same about the arthritis, by 2 differant doctors, an Orthopedist and a GP. As my leg and hip pain worsened I finally ended up in the ER, and was told by an ER Doc who saw my MRI on the hospital computer that I clearly had a herniated disc and it had herniated into my sciatic nerve. Mind you this is the only MRI I have ever had.
The ER doctor, told me that for some reason Orhthopedist don’t like to diagnose disc problems like this because the don’t like to do the surgery. The ER doctor called in a Neurosurgeon and I was in surgery the next day to remove the disc, which actually “blew up” it was so big. In the recovery room I felt 80 percent better, however, I am now on total disablity due to Permanent Sciatic Nerve damage. I have to go to Pain Mangement Clinic, and physical therapy and my life is totally and forever changed. I’m 43.
Please, Please, Please see a Neurosurgeon and have them look over your MRI. An arthretic back does not cause the leg pain you describe it is your sciatic nerve and I am sorry, I can’t tell you anything to alieviate your pain that you aren’t already doing except increase your pain meds temporarily. You needent worry about addiction rightnow with the pain you are in the meds go directly to the pain. As long as you take them as prescribed you have nothing to fear. If you don’t you just may end up taking meds in the future and forever.
Feel free to E Mail me if you have questions and I honestly hope that you find relief for your pain soon, I know the misery you are in right now.
P.S. I would steer clear of any Chiropractors right now!!!!!

What is causing back and leg pain?

About a month ago, only a night while sleeping, I would get back pain. It wasn’t localized. My whole back hurt.

Andrew answers:

I would recommend going to see a chiropractor. Everyday activity can cause your spine to come out of alignment and it’s natural curve(subluxate). A chiropractor can diagnose this and treat it. I am a fairly active person, and play a few sports. I go for chirpractic adjustments once a week just to maintain proper spinal alignment, which has reduced the amount of back, hip, shoulder, and knee soreness I experience. Once you get through your initial treatment an office visit and adjustment should not take up much time.

1024 megabytes makes 1 gigabyte.

If your HTC Wildfire is running low on space, you can use App2SD on the market to move some apps to your SD storage.

If you are still running low on space, you will need to Root your device and use Titanium Backup to remove applications that are usually un-removable. Google Books is one of them.

I do not recommend Rooting your phone unless you know what you’re doing — removing the wrong application can cause the software to hang / stop working normally.

The third method invovles installing a custom ROM to your device.
The custom ROM will entirely replace the software on your device, and has usually been tweaked for better performance, and less bloatware.

Installing a ROM will usually void your warranty, so beware. This is usually best done if you’re confident about tweaking your phone, otherwise, leave custom ROMS alone.

People with chronic back pain occasionally get relief from a tummy tuck. How does this help?

its a question on my anatomy and physiology paper and this questioned really interested me. What are yalls opinons on it?

Andrew answers:

Sign and symptoms of back can depend on what is the cause. Back pain from being over weight or obesity can be treated using the tummy tuck procedure. Because tummy tuck is a cosmetic surgery wherein the excess fat and skin is being removed to firm the fascia and muscle of your abdominal wall. Using this procedure will depend on the person. It is still best to consult a cosmetic surgeon to know more about how it is works.

There are more exercise that can help in alleviating your chronic back pain. Like yoga, meditation, belly dancing and at lot more. If you want to get motivation on doing these exercises you can watch videos from video sites like youtube.

Back pain is sometimes the result of having a bad posture. Wearing a posture brace corrector can help ease your back ache. This corrector is also an excellent poster corrector and also helps in lessening your neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain, and other body aches.

Andrew answers:

It could be anything, nerve problem, muscle problem or a number of other things…It is impossible to answer your question without knowing what the actual problem is. Go to your Doctor and have him/her send you for a CT or MRI scan.
The wrong type of treatment or exercises can do more damage than good and you need to have your back properly diagnosed prior to ANY treatment.
Again you do need to have a CT / MRI scan or such done before allowing ANYONE to touch your back.

Get a professional opinion from the radiologist doing the scan in his report to your doctor and then go from there.

Yeah buddy pronunciation wise you can trust it 95% to be right, but make sure the word is actually translated, as sometimes google translator does not translate the word to the wanted language instead just types that word in the wanted to language, so unless he pronounces “dog” in english which lets say is spelled “$^£” in russian and he pronounces that “dog” then obviously u know its horse****, enjoy learning russian and goodluck with that

Introduction

Sports medicine is one of the leading fields of medicines in the present times especially with the advent of competitive sports at an amazingly fast pace. The amount and high extent of such form of sports have further led to an increasing number of illnesses and injuries being experienced by the sportspersons.

In such a scenario, physical therapy has emerged to be one of the most result-oriented and preferred modes of treatment for the sportspersons.

In this section, we discuss the correlation between sports medicine and physical therapy and the role physical therapy plays in the treatment of sports-related injuries and disorders.

Physical Therapy – The Basics

Physical therapy is primarily defined as a science that strives to improve movement dysfunction, promote optimal health and functions of the human body.

At its core, physical therapy places human movement as central to health and well-being of mankind. It is widely regarded as the most important rehabilitative service needed in a community, integral to the treatment of most patients.

There are four major physical areas, in which physical therapy is believed to have a development role, including:

1. Musculoskeletal
2. Cardiopulmonary
3. Integumentary
4. Neurological

Sports medicine and physical therapy have been playing a very instrumental role in determining the positive state of health of sportspersons in the recent years.

Impact on Sports Medicine

As a mode of treatment for individuals in the profession of sports, physical therapy is provided by physical therapists who strive to achieve excellence in the science and art of rehabilitation of active patients.

A major section of physical therapists are trained to work in the field of sports medicine specializes in caring for most of the musculoskeletal injuries, especially those associated with athletics. Such instances include assessment and treatment of elbow and shoulder injuries, especially in the overhead athlete.

Sports medicine and physical therapy also benefit the sportspersons in the assessment and treatment of other joint problems which occur as a result of sport and activity. The most common types of injuries treated by a physical therapist include muscle strains, tendon injuries, overuse injuries and osteoarthritis.

Mode of Function

The fields of sports medicine and physical therapy are closely inter-linked and play an important role in improving the overall performance of sportspersons and preventing disorders.

A physical therapist basically examines patient’s medical histories and then assesses various factors associated to the patient’s individual case. These factors mainly include:

* Strength and state of health
* Range of motion
* Balance and coordination
* Posture
* Muscle performance
* Respiration
* Motor function

The treatment modalities often include exercise for patients who have been handicapped or immobilized and suffer from lack of flexibility, strength and endurance.

As a part of their endeavors, the physical therapists often encourage patients to use their own muscles to increase their flexibility and range of motion before moving on to more complex and strength-building exercises.

What causes such severe back pain while walking?

I woke up one morning about 2 weeks ago with a sore knot right between my left shoulder blade and spine. I ignored it but now it has gotten worse and ONLY hurts when i am walking. I can walk for about 15 minutes before it kicks in and the pain is HORRIBLE..like that section of my back is filled with fire! What the heck is this?

Andrew answers:

It’s a pinched muscle causing that pain. When you walk you keep shifting the pressure on and off it to make the pain feel worse. You have to release the muscles in your back to get rid of the pain. Here’s how to do that:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

Are there any diseases that cause back pain?

my mom had a pain on one side of her back, she could hardly move for a few days.
Can a collection of feces near the colon cause back pain?

I was at work the other day and had to go pretty bad, i noticed my far lower back was in an odd deep sharp pain that I hadnt experienced before.
I have suffered this many times. I do have comprised (herniated disc) in my lower spine. I’m sure constipation throws my alignment out of wack and causes pain. There has been times my bowels were ready to be relieved but it was not possible for several hours and I had severe back pain until I was able to relieve myself.
what are the causes of lower back pain?

I’ve just been to a festival and on the last morning (this morning) I got a really painful lower back, like my kidneys. Is this from too much drinking, lack of sleep…etc..?
I’ts a permanent ache which causes it to be uncomofrtable to sit in positions.
Could it be a kidney infection? Could there be any other causes other than the amount of alcohol intake?

Andrew answers:

How much alcohol did you consume? It’s highly probable that your kidneys had to work overtime and could be inflamed if you drank to the point of toxicity. Did you do anything other than drink to that may have caused your back to hurt? Did you do any excessive lifting (other than your glass)?
